Chapter 1 One

Isabella's pov

"We finally found you," A chilling shiver ran down my spine as these three surrounded me, like predators closing in on their prey.

I gulped

How did my life end up like this

It all trailed back to the past, eight years ago when I became an adult.

"K-kyle, isn't this skirt a bit too short?" My adoptive brother sent a warning glare my way as he saw me adjusting it, trying to at least get it to properly cover my bum.

"Don't be such a prude, Ella, that skirt is all the range now. A lot of girls your age could–would–kill for it. Now stop acting like a pup and let it be,"

I sighed in resignation, releasing my grip and it rose quarter an inch with every step that led me to the bar.

Kyle signalled for the bartender and ordered our drinks–two shots of whisky neat.

He caught me nervously rubbing my fingers together, "What is it now?" He said, simmering with irritation. My head fell, "Kyle, is it fine if I just get juice?"

His tone was derisive, "Of course it's fine–do you need some milk afterwards to sober you up?"

I shook my head, my cheeks flushed. "No," my lips mumbled out.

Coming here, with Kyle, was a mistake. I knew it from the moment we walked in and my throat clogged from clouds of cigarette smoke. The patrons of the bar were mostly shady men that openly leered at me with toothy grins adding to my discomfort.

When the drinks came, I wished I'd stayed home, cuddled with Mr Fluffy, my beloved stuffed rabbit, and dozed off watching my favorite show. If the cost of that was being called a pup I wouldn't mind so much compared to being here.

"Make sure you drink everything, I don't want my money to go to waste," Kyle threatened me as he pushed the glass into my reluctant fingers and I knew he meant it.

Kyle was always short on money despite the huge allowance that clicked into his account every month as the Beta's heir because he'd gamble it away in the blink of an eye.

That's why I'd been so giddy when he said he wanted to 'celebrate' my transition to adulthood.

But after being forced into this flimsy excuse for an outfit and dragged to this dingy bar and any semblance of excitement had died away, I'll just have this one glass and be on my way.

Kyle's heated gaze was burning my face, he watched me with an odd curiosity as I forced every drop down my throat and when the glass was empty he finally let out a smile.

"Good job," his smile unsettled me. I grabbed my purse and slipped off the barstool.

"Kyle, I'm going to be going home now,"

"Alright,"

That was it. No complaints or jokes, he just let me go. I was relieved at first, but I noticed my body growing heavier with each step and before I even reached the door it felt like I was carrying invisible weights.

My vision grew blurry and I slumped back to someone's waiting chest and arms, it was a man's. Good thing he caught me in time, it was...almost...like he knew...that I'd ...pass...out ....

Morning came and I woke up in an unfamiliar bedroom with a hammering feeling in my head and my entire body ached. What horrified me though was that most of the pain was coming from between my legs.

"No...no...no..." I tossed off the duvet and stared at the sheets with bulging eyes.

They were stained with blood–my blood!

All this time I had been saving my virginity for my mate, only to lose it like this? I couldn't even remember who I'd done it with. My last memory was blacking out into a man's arms and nothing else and...and...what about Kyle?

Didn't he notice? Even if he didn't, he must have gone home that night and realized I never made it there. Didn't anybody come looking for me?

I found some cash laid neatly under the nightshade and with it was a note that read; Enjoy the cash, I kind of felt bad since you were a virgin, but just take this as a life lesson that you can never trust too much, even your own family.

Over and over again my eyes scanned through the note, the contents remaining unchanged. Tears rolled from my eyes slowly dropping on the piece of paper.

I cried quietly like this for a moment, then took a deep breath brushing off my remaining tears with the back of my hand.

"No way, Kyle wouldn't do this to me!"

Whoever wrote this note must be messing with me, sure Kyle has never been fond of me...in all honesty neither were my adoptive parents either but they were much kinder than he was and didn't show it all the time. But still, he wouldn't do something like this to me.

I found my clothes rumpled and thrown on the floor, my underwear had been ripped into shreds and one of the straps of my bra cut off so I had to rewear this revealing outfit without any underwear making me feel practically naked as I stepped out of the hotel room.

I took the money and the note, but as evidence not because I had any intention of spending it. How could a measly amount like this ever compare to what had been stolen from me?

My mind kept trailing back to last night, desperately trying to remember what had happened but I found myself always staring at a black screen. There was nothing, as if my memory had been clipped away, but the pain that vibrated from every inch of me told me it wasn't my imagination, it screamed into my ears that I have been violated in one of the worst ways possible.

And that someone I viewed as my brother might have been responsible for that.

I had to walk all the way home, by the time I arrived my feet were wobbling out of physical and mental exhaustion but I managed to work into the living room before collapsing on the nearest couch.

The house seemed so calm, was nobody looking for me? Just then I heard thumping footsteps and the next thing I knew my cheek were met with a stinging slap.

"You shameless whore! What are you doing back here?"

Chapter 2 Two

Isabella's POV

My adoptive mother's slap had come unexpectedly, sending a striking feeling of pain across my face, I stood up in alarm and shock, staring blankly at her as my fingers gently brushed my fresh bruise.

"Mom...why?" I choked out, she had never laid a hand on me before–so why out of the blue?

"Don't even try playing dumb, you ungrateful wench! What was the point of raising you if you were going to turn out like this–"

She was about to slap me again but her hand hung midair and she slowly brought her fingers to massage her forehead instead.

"Your things have been packed, just get out of my house so I don't have to see your face anymore,"

My adoptive father was behind her, but I didn't even bother looking at him for help. The poor man was scared of his own wife without a backbone in sight to speak of.

"Mom I–"

"Don't call me that, you–"

"Mom, what's going on?" Kyle appeared in the living room, wearing casual clothes and not looking one bit like a brother whose sister had disappeared since last night.

When he saw me, a nasty grin tugged at his lips.

"So you actually came back? Can't say I'm surprised, you've never had any shame before, so why start now?"

Every word that came out of his mouth pushed me further into a well of confusion. He was there with me last night, he was the one that had taken me to the bar, and left me there after I passed out so why wasn't he defending me?

Why was I in trouble, and not him, for ditching me?

"Kyle, please tell Mom what happened last night I think there's a misunderstanding–"

"Kyle already told me everything," my adoptive mother snapped at me, "He told me how you snuck out to go to a rundown bar and when he found you and tried to bring you back you were plastered and flirting around with older, disgusting men..."

The more she narrated Kyle's version of last night the more I understood just how deeply he despised me.

While I felt my whole world crumbling all around me I saw his satisfied smirk and something snapped inside of me, my feet rushed past my adoptive mother and I reached out and grabbed his collar.

"You jerk!" I screamed at the top of my voice, "W-why did you tell Mom those horrible lies? fess up right now or else–"

"Isabella!" My adoptive mother's roaring voice was followed by her waving the wad of cash I'd taken from the hotel room and staring at me with rage.

"Where did you get this money?"

My grip on Kyle's collar subconsciously loosened as my mind grasped for an explanation then Kyle spoke up, "That must have been her 'compensation' for last night, Mom," Her face grew redder, "This...this is what you took as compensation?!"

"Mom please–"

"Why don't we take her to the pack hospital now to check if she is still a virgin? That should clear everything up," Kyle heartlessly suggested then lowered his eyes at me, "Well, what are you waiting for?"

I tried to speak, but tears flowed instead.

"Kyle, I'll never forgive you for this..." I whimpered out as he dragged me out of the house. My adoptive parents confiscated my 'compensation' and didn't even let me pack my few belongings so I was about to be thrown out into the cold cruel world penniless and alone.

"I never forgave you for trying to replace my sister so now we're even," he said when we were out of earshot of others. "I also had some gambling debts to clear off, so in a sense I killed two birds with one stone,"

That was how just a week after I turned 18 I was kicked out of my 'home' left to fend for myself. The rumors about me spread like wildfire and for a conservative pack like Greystone anything that attached is she–wolve's name to promiscuity meant she deserved nothing short of social death.

For weeks I slept on the streets huddling into the warmest corners I could find, and wondering why...just why I had to suffer like this. Even if I met my mate now, he would reject me on the spot because of the rumors sorumors was so I was sure to die alone.

I was begging for change one hot afternoon, dressed in rags and a familiar, expensive car parked abruptly next to the sidewalk. The windscreen came down and a high pitched voice rang out.

"Ella!" It was my best friend, Linda Duffy, the alpha's niece and only heiress in line to inherit the title "My goddess what happened to you? Do you mind not coming too close? you stink right now,"

She got me a meeting with the Alpha, I explained everything to him hoping I would get justice. His response was a far cry from it.

"So what you are saying is..." he began and took a pause before he continued, "... None of this would have happened to you if you didn't go to that bar dressed like that and gotten carelessly drunk,"

I couldn't speak, just gave him a wide eyed stare.

"Nothing we do can change the past, for now we should focus on your future. The rumors will die down on their own until then you can work here as a maid,"

With a lump in my throat, I nodded.

Several cycles of the moon passed, working as a maid turned from a temporary way to get by to my full working condition before I knew it 8 years had passed by.

And nobody had forgotten.

I entered Linda's room to grab her laundry but I was grabbed instead by my freind jumping up and down like a kid, her smile too big to be contained by her face.

"Ella, the Blue Moon banquet is coming up and you won't believe what I heard from my Uncle!"

With some artificially infused enthusiasm in my voice I asked; "What did he tell you?"

"It's actually still kind of a secret right now, but listen..." She leaned closer, "...the Lycan princes will be coming,"

Chapter 3 Three

Isabella's pov

"Aren't you excited?' Linda asked with concern as my smile disappeared without a trace.

"I am," I lied right through my teeth, not only was I unexcited I was pissed off. To her the Blue Moon banquet was a magical experience filled with sparkling dresses, rare delicacies and there should be at the center of it all holding everyone's attention.

For me it was a grueling experience, and now knowing that the Royal triplets were going to be in attendance everything would have to be done to absolute perfection meaning more work on my hands. So no, I wasn't excited, but I couldn't tell her that.

Didn't want to be 'wet blanket' especially since Linda had this obsession with the Lycan princes, she had gone to the palace regularly since she was a child and never really shut up about them.

"Ella, I have to start getting ready, this is the only chance I have to make them admit their feelings for me,"

"Admit?" I said with a raised eyebrow as I stuffed her dirty clothes into the laundry basket.

"Yes, silly! I've seen the way all three of them look at me. I've got them whipped but they I probably scared of ruining their brotherly bond by approaching me. Oh just thinking about it makes me squeal!"

My eyes remained on my hopeless best friend for a moment or two, she really put the D in delusion, but I didn't need to be the one to tell her that.

After that talk she went to request that her Uncle take me and some other maids from the preparation of the banquet so that we could focus on helping her.

"The more hands on deck, the better," she said, and I was hit with a naive wave of relief, thinking that I was getting the better end of the stick, especially since there would be other maids but I couldn't have been more wrong.

"No, not that dress, it makes me look fat!"

"Can't you see this foundation is two shades lighter? Do you want me going out looking like a ghost?"

"Who brought me this nasty dish? Are they planning to give me pimples before my big day?!"

"Ella, you are the only one I can trust. The rest of them are trying to sabotage me! I know it!" She would say something along those lines before she dismissed another maid. In the end I was carrying the lionshare of the work, secretly wishing I could beg the Alpha to let me go back to banquet preparations. Anything–anything would be better than this!

Finally, the night of the banquet came, Linda had already promised me a small vacation, which was just a nice way of saying that I could curl up in my bed for a day or two before coming back to serve her hand and foot. I was wearing a simple black and white outfit just like the other maids waiting for her hair stylist who was carefully placing delicate flowers in Linda's hair.

I've been here for hours, maybe I could have slept and rested my aching muscles during that time but Linda needed someone to chat with so she wouldn't be bored.

"Ella, I hope you've started preparing..." she said with a giggle, "... After tonight we will be heading to the palace. I'll convince them to even pay you more than the regular maid, aren't you happy?"

"I'll still be a maid?" I asked the surprise slipping out of my voice faster than I could catch it.

Linda held up her hand then in a thick voice dismissed the hair stylist, "come back in about 5 minutes," then without looking at me just straight that time mirror she said; "Ella, do you ever remember your time on the streets?"

Her words hit me like a slap on the face, "I do–"

"Sometimes I think you forget," she cut me off, "... It's funny because I still remember how you used to thank me everyday for saving you from that life; eating rotten food from the garbage can, wearing filthy rags...oh just thinking about it gives me goosebumps,"

She finally turned around to face me, my eyes couldn't meet hers because they were heavy with shame.

"Tell me the truth, Ella, have you forgotten?"

And with those simple words, she talked me back into knowing my place as pitiful and pathetic, as it was to know I'd probably be dead, or insane if she hadn't taken pity on me all those years back.

"I'm sorry, I–"

"It's okay, I'll forgive you...after all, what are friends for?"

The hair stylist came back into an awkward silence but finished up her work anyways. Linda twirled in front of the mirror wearing a satisfied smile before she approached me.

"Before we go there's something remember what I told you before,"

I nodded, "Yes, for tonight I should forget that we are friends and only act as your maid."

"Good job, I hope you're not hurt by that. It's just the standard of the capital. I don't really see the point of it but I wouldn't want my loving princes to think that I am classless,"

I wish tonight would end already.

"Of course, lady Linda,"

The banquet hall was beautifully decorated as always, and also plumped up with a larger turnout of guests, just as I had expected. I guess even if it's made no difference to me, members of The Royal family coming here was a big deal.

The presence of the first prince was announced with much flair just as the double doors were thrown open and he stepped in his hair stylishly messy, his frame tall built and elegant and there was this overwhelming charismatic air that permeated the air around him like thick perfume.

He smells nice too, really nice.

Suddenly he paused in the middle of the hall, then he made intentional steps towards the Alpha's table, which was not a surprise, since naturally that was where he was meant to sit.

His steps slowly but steadily grew more hurried, grew more hurried and frantic, like he was worried the Alpha's table would dissipate into thin air. As for Linda she was smiling from ear to ear but her smile sunk the moment the first prince, Ralph Blackwood walked past her cupped my cheeks with both hands and said with raspily; "Mate."
