"what's the meaning of this?!!"
Kira Smith fisted her palms beneath the table immediately. She had told herself whatever his reaction, she wouldn't be hurt! She can't be! She mustn't let this fool see her pain! But why did it suddenly hurt even more than she'd anticipated?
Harry scoffed and looked away from the paper in his hands, a scornful chuckle escaped his throat, he turned back to Kira - his girlfriend of thirteen months. "Is this some kind of joke Kira?" He waggled the paper before her face, throwing it across the table. "How can you be pregnant? Who's the father?"
Kira held her tongue, not for the sake of lashing out on him, but for the sake of her own tears. She was too soft to a fault. She knew the moment she opened her mouth, the tears would flow like a river.
"Let's end this", Harry tutted. "I was tired already anyways. You're just too slow and boring and now pregnant? I thought being dull was your only trait. Didn't know you were a slut as well", he scoffed.
Kira fisted her palms even tighter, it went white. The image of two days ago flashed across in her mind.
She had gotten the pregnancy test results two days ago after finally deciding to visit a hospital. Kira couldn't make out her disposition. She was excited, yet she was sad. She was happy to birth her lover's child, but she felt her baby came too early. She had a lot she'd plan to do with her life, she didn't know if she'd be capable of being a mother now at 23. She had concluded that if Harry would be happy with their seed, she should be as well. The thought of even getting married to him had brightened her up.
She had left the hospital, dialling his number as she made her way to his apartment, he wasn't answering the phone. Maybe he was busy and had his phone on silent - she thought.
She'd decided to go to his apartment and maybe prepare dinner to welcome him and break the news to him, only for the elevator doors to whizz open to a sight she'd never expected.
Right in front of his door!
They couldn't even wait to get inside before devouring each other. Harry had his lips latched fully on the lady's, his hands already way past her inner thighs. Kira had hid in shock and pain, as only his neighbor who was in the elevator with her stepped out. The hungry duo went into his apartment to finish their business.
For two days, she had cried her heart out, wiping those tears just now and deciding to meet up with him still and break the news. "Maybe it was a drunk fling. Maybe it was just that one time. Harry would never cheat on me. He'd accept our baby and all these would be way behind us" - she had tried to assure herself.
But seated before the one she had fallen for. Harry looked and sounded dead serious. "You'd better find the father and let him know, after all, you of all people know what it's like, growing up without a father". He smirked and that did it.
How could he?
How could he bring up her family?!
He had no darn right!!
"How dare you?", Kira's voice finally rang out and truly, the tears blurred her vision even though she tried to blink them back. "I have never slept with anyone but you. You were my first and you know it. If you do not want to take responsibility for our child then don't. But don't you dare mention my family! You have no right Harry!"
"Or else what?" He scoffed, "what could possibly happen when I bring up your family? Why are you so bitter when I'm stating just facts and truths. You know your story better than I do, Kira. It's not easy without a father, unless you plan on aborting this child. I have never released any seeds in you".
Her nails dug into her knees at this point, her toes pinning on the ground inside her shoes. All was a bid to hold back her tears. "I guess it wasn't your first time then", she forced a smile. "I wonder how many others you've slept with. Thankfully all I got was pregnant not infected. I accept being a fool thinking it'd be just me".
Harry simply smiled, but she did not miss the twitch of confusion in his eyes. He had shrugged it off in a nano second. Even though she had truly caught him in whatever, that was none of his business. He didn't bother to defend himself - a confirmation that he was truly done with her. Her realization at this broke her even more. "Fine then. Let's break up", her voice croaked even though she didn't mean it, but he smiled.
"It's high time we do. I can't believe you thought for a second that I might be into you". He scoffed and stood to his feet, turning to her one last time, "don't worry, I'll pay. Save your little change, incase you can't find the father. Little slut", he scoffed and walked away.
Her eyes remained glued to his retreating figure until he disappeared out of sight. Kira hadn't blinked. Her soul had left her. She sat confused and lost. The air suddenly turned cold and tormenting. She blinked finally and the tears fell. Starting with a drop and growing into a river. Uncontrollable and unstoppable.
How could she pregnant for a mad man?! How could Harry turn his back on her? "Little slut!!" - it kept repeating in her head as her heart ached. She didn't care if anyone was watching.
For this same reason, she had partially despised her mother. For bringing her into the world without a father. For making her a laughing stock amongst her peers and mates. For making life the hardest for her. She despised whoever the man was and her mother who had succumbed to such a man, but here she was, repeating the pattern.
She hated herself.
How could she bring a child into the world without a father? Kira was barely covering her bills not to mention that of a little human. Her tears flowed even more, her body shook. She felt someone slip in across her. Was Harry back?
She looked up immediately but her eyes met with a weirdo smiling at her, "what could make a pretty soul like yours cry so hard?", His irritating voice asked.
Kira couldn't come up with the perfect reply for him, she simply snatched her test results from the table and grabbed her purse to leave. He held her back.
"Get the heck away from me", her voice dead that it scared even her.
He let go immediately and she stormed out.
She left with a heavy heart, her vision still a bit blurred. Everyone felt like trees to her, she heard a few whispers from passerbys as they stared at her but she didn't care. They'd better enjoy the show now, cause she might as well be on her way to jumping off a damned bridge!
What could she do?
She didn't have a job! She worked different part-time jobs but she was never lucky. She was always fired for some petty reasons.
She suddenly felt hot despite the cool weather.
She took the turn to her residence; a quiet and serene alleyway, walking completely lost in thoughts when a gray SUV hit the brakes beside her.
A gasp escaped her throat as she swerved her neck to catch sight of the driver, but instead, the doors opened and in a flash, she was pulled in.
Her lashes batted open, her eye lids closing and reopening to adjust to the light in the room. He sat beside her, his hand stroking her hair with a smile. Maybe she hadn't made out his figure yet, or the drugs used on her were so strong that she couldn't feel his hand stroke her hair.
Kira blinked again but her head pounded twice more. She closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep.
When her eyes opened again, she could hear her own heartbeat. The white ceiling greeted her as she sat up slowly, her hands clutching her head on both sides. It pounded severely. She looked around, seeming to remember nothing.
Finally, her eyes opened fully, the drowsiness had cleared, she looked around the unfamiliar room clouded with an unfamiliar scent.
"Where am I ?" She muttered to herself.
Her eyes darting around the room that oozed of wealth and elegance. The dark theme luring her to sleep more. She didn't know anyone who could pull off such interior decors. Not even Harry.
Right? Harry!
Her head banged as memories flooded in. Shock gripping her being at the remembrance of her kidnap, she quickly climbed out of the bed in a haste.
Her eyes frantically scanning the room. "Who could have done this?" - she looked down immediately. She had her clothes still on, she didn't feel any pains either. That was a relief to start with, but she thought harder.
Harry wanted nothing to do with her, neither was she the type to argue with anyone who could think of kidnapping her. What exactly was going on?
Her mind drifted back to the image of Harry's cheating, her pains returned; her eyes moistened. She shook her head, her hands unconsciously travelling to her belly. First she needed to get out of here.
She looked around for her bag or phone, she couldn't find none. Her eyes met with the wall clock, it was 4:17pm. Her eyes widened even more.
She had met with Harry at exactly 5:30pm, was this clock just wrong or was it a new day already??
The approaching footsteps from the slightly opened door had her rushing back to the bed. Where could she possibly hide? Her breathing became heavy. With shaky hands, she grabbed the nearest weapon her eyes had found - a fountain pen.
With heavy breathes, she held the pen up, waiting for whoever would walk through those doors and in three seconds, the door opened, causing her jaw to drop.
The fountain pen fell immediately, her hand slowly falling to her side as she sized him up.
Glowing perfectly in the evening sun, his pendant caught her eyes first as it rested on his fair skin. His black shirt that was only two buttons opened from the top couldn't be missed as it accentuated his tanned skin.
Kira eyes just had to travel up.
Jet-black hair, almond-shaped brown eyes fringed with thick lashes and brows. An angular jawline with a perfect pointy nose, that beautifully held his glasses.
And just when her eyes met his full round lips, it parted in a smile and his voice rang out - warm and comforting, nothing deep or hoarse, yet passionate and calling out to her soul, "Hey, you're awake", he cooed and took out his glasses.
Kira swallowed.
His suit jacket in one hand, his tie and glasses in the other. Who was this god before her?? And why was she taking note of every thing?!
Her eyes blinked rapidly but she'd forgotten to close her mouth. "You look pale. You're shocked? I didn't mean to startle you", a hint of apology and concern laced his voice as kicked away his shoes.
He sat on the only cushion in the room and removed his socks, as well as his phone and wristwatch, before continuing in his calm tone. "It's been a while. You seem to be doing better than myself.", he smiled again and Kira couldn't find her voice.
What was he talking about and who the heck was he?
"You know I'm a little disappointed", he chuckled, "with $500 million, all you did was settle down in Langford - of all places?", He asked before rising to his feet again.
He took three steps forward and Kira took equal steps backwards, her bum hitting the lamp on the bedstand. His eyes flashed with pain at her reaction.
"I know this is pathetic of me. I was going to let you go. But... I... I really can't forget you. I really can't sleep knowing you're not by my side. Do you hate me that much?"
Kira was lost in all of this, but the pain in his voice and in his gaze drew pity from her to whoever this wounded man might be. Which woman would dupe such a god and even break him so bad?
But seriously though, if she had $500 million, why would she settle in Langford??
Why would she be bothered about a man like Harry?
She would start her life afresh for herself and her child!
"I want to hear it, from you", - his wounded voice drew her attention again. "I want to hear it from you that you -....that you felt nothing for me..... Nothing at all", he smiled brokenly, pocketing his hands.
Kira cleared her throat and stood straight, locking his gaze. First of all, his problems were nothing compared to hers. He was brokenhearted, so what?
What's the big deal? He'd heal! He has the wealth to heal! He ain't fucking pregnant with no money nor job! He even has $500million to fucking give out!
She had a lot more on her plate, and she wouldn't be adding this to the list - a branded thief.
Kira had no idea who he was talking about, but the lady had stolen from him and for some reason, he thinks she's the one.
She finally voiced, "I'm sorry about all this but.....
"Don't", he cut her off calmly with a shake of head, "let's go again", he smiled. " A year... No.. no... Six months... Give me six months and if you really want nothing with me, I'd let you go", he begged.
Kira sighed, "even a man with so much wealth can see the meaning in love, why can't Harry see it? Why couldn't Harry see her? - she thought to herself.
She'd give anything to be the woman this god was after. To be the woman that's actually wanted and loved, but that's a fantasy and she had better leave this world soonest. She sighed again, "Excuse me. I really don't know....."
"Are you going to deny me of our child too?" He cut her off again, walking up to her and grabbing the paper behind her on the bedstand.
Her breathing hitched at the closeness between them. She blinked away the thought and her eyes followed his hand. It was the test results from her bag. Her jaws clenched at the sight.
"It's says you're two weeks pregnant and it was exactly two weeks ago. Two weeks ago I took your virginity before you disappeared on me. So why?"
"Did I ever do you any wrong? Was I ever harsh with you?"
" You -.. you're my first. My very first and you know it. So why are you being like this?" His tears finally fell, "Kira Smith", he read the name on the pregnancy test, "you even had to change your name?"
"You came into my life and changed everything. Made me a happy man. Brought out a part of me I never knew could still exist, so please, stop. Just stop all of this! I still love you and I can never stop".
Kira fought back her emotions.
She was carrying a child whose father balantly denied his position, yet this man before her was ready to accept a child he's just learning about. How cruel could fate be?! How wicked could humans be?!
Why couldn't she have been the one to meet this man instead of Harry. Maybe his supposed love should have met Harry instead of him. No one would be in tears!
He sniffed back his tears with a smile, but unexpectedly, he went on his knees, "six months. Take me back for just six months, Lana".
So that's her name - Lana.
Kira smiled painfully. "But no one wants me... Not Harry, not my father, not my mother... Not even you before me" - she muttered in her heart. Her tears finally fell.
He kept staring up at her, waiting for her reply when Kira snatched the test results from him, she smiled and said, "you're mistaking me for someone else. I should get going".
She walked round him and halted again, "where's my stuff?"
He had his head bowed, his shoulders sunken. A broken man. Yet he stood to his feet with a smile, "you plan to raise that child alone?"
"It's none of your business and you should apologize first. For kidnapping me without knowing me", Kira blinked.
"Lana...
"It's Kira", she cut him off, "...my stuffs?"
She watched him swallow the lump in his throat and she held tightly onto her dress. A man worth a billion more than Harry was standing before her, and she would give anything to be the woman he wants right now.
How kind of life to mock her even on the day she got dumped and rejected by a clown.
"It's in your room", he smiled.
Kira scoffed, "I don't know who this Lana is, but it ain't me okay? I have much more things bothering me, so stop all this and get my stuff! I've never been in your house before, neither do I know you!" She lost her cool.
He chuckled, "you've changed as well. I've never heard you raise your voice. What were you planning to do next? A face surgery?"
Kira hissed, "yeah. Anything to be away from you!" Her pain had turned to anger and sadly this pitiful man had to be on the receiving end.
"You should be grateful I won't take advantage of you. Now get my stuffs before I bring this house down!", She growled.
"You really.... You really hate me now", his voice broke but he smiled and walked past her. Out of the door and down the stairs.
Kira gave a sharp exhale. Cleaning her eyes with the back of her hand. She sniffed and followed after him.
The sight was something else. The bedroom was nothing compared to the living room. Just how rich was this man? And who exactly is he? Should she just impersonate this Lana of a girl and live here? Give her unborn child a home and a father?
"Kira!!" - she scolded herself in her head for having such thoughts.
"Why would whosever give up on such life for a mere $500 million. He looks like he give more than that daily!" - she thought to herself as she bit her lips. She would just never understand the world of the rich.
She had descended the stairs fully and stood in the living room when the man disappeared through a door. Another door opened behind her and Kira turned on her feet. It was an elderly woman.
She gasped and rushed to her, a painful slap landing on her shoulder, "Lana! How could you do that to the young Master!", She glared at a shocked Kira who's hand held her stinging shoulder. "You told me of how you loved him. Do you know how broken Sir Mason has been in the past two weeks! I can't believe you young lady!"
The young god stepped in from the door he'd disappeared through, with Kira's bag, shoe and phone in hand.
"Mason... So that's his name" - Kira thought to herself.
"You're back", the older woman smiled with a slight bow. Mason nodded and turned to Kira, "here", he handed her her stuffs.
"You're leaving?" The older woman asked with a frown, she gazed intently at the man who'd grown beautifully well, she'd been with him ever since he was a baby. She gasped at the redness of his eyes.
"She didn't come to stay Lydia", Mason replied and turned to Kira again, "the driver would take you", he muttered and left them, taking the stairs back up.
Kira exhaled and checked her phone immediately, she pursed her lip into a thin line at the realization that she could be dead for a year before anyone would realize she was gone. "Not one missed call. Not even a message. I have no one", she muttered to herself with tears in her eyes.
"What's going on Lana? Did you both break up? Did you just make him cry?" Lydia fired her with questions.
"I wish I was the one to make him cry!! I wish I was the reason he went on his knees begging for me to stay!! I wish I was fucking Lana!!!" - she wanted to yell all of this, but she swallowed her spittle, fiddling with her handbag as she smiled and turned to leave.
Lydia stood puzzled, staring at Kira walk away.
She walked outside and she felt her heart ache even more. The compound was bigger than anything! Why wasn't she Lana! Why wasn't Harry like Mason!!
The driver ran up to her, "ma'am", he bowed, stretching to take her bag from her but she stopped him. He simply understood and turned, "this way", he gestured and led her to a waiting Porsche. It wasn't the gray SUV now. Her eyes scanned the fleet of cars and she sighed before going in.
She sat in the back and he ran round to take the driver's position. Igniting the engines and driving out of the compound. Just as he was out from the gates, he hit the brakes at the honking of an incoming car.
He rolled down windows and so did the driver in the other car. A stunning young man, a million times better than Harry but nowhere close to Mason. Life didn't have to state it in clear fonts that she'd have nothing to do with these kind of men. She simply looked away.
"Is that Lana? Is she leaving already?" , The other man had asked and she could hear her driver respond with a "yes sir".
"I'll drop her", the other man had said and Kira's neck snapped immediately. She exhaled loudly. She might really loose it if she spends another second with some hot god who keeps low-key embarrassing her whilst mistaking her for some Lana girl. How could a lady involved with such hot gods even look like her?!!!
The driver rushed down to her side and opened the door. "Yeah. I might as well live like a queen for just today" - she sighed to herself and alighted. The other dude was already out and waiting with a bright smile.
He seemed the same height with Mason, more athletic build but Mason had beat him in the face card game. "Hey", he called out and she noticed the dimple in his smile. Mason didn't have one.
"Stop comparing them!!!" - she mentally slapped herself.
"Let me drop you off instead, if you don't mind", he continued with his smile and she nodded and went round into the waiting door that was already opened. "Tell Mason I'll be back", he'd said to the driver who bowed in respect and stood till they drove off.
Kira sat beside him quietly, keeping her eyes completely out the window as she fiddled with her dress.
She could feel his eyes constantly glancing at her and when he couldn't keep quiet no more, he smiled, " wow", he laughed, "just wow. I must say, the resemblance shocked me too Kira".
She turned immediately with wide eyes.
"Yeah. I know you're not Lana, but I need you to be her, Miss Kira Smith", he turned to her with a smile.
