LUCY
Looking at the machete on the man's head, I first moved it around, and then I pulled pretty hard. "Marco Marquez, you have been removed from my list," I murmured to his lifeless body.
"You were a shitty man." I felt disgusted as I stared at him. I held my machete close to my face. It's been years since I last drank human blood, and during that time, I had to force it down. I ran my tongue along the edge of the blade and licked any dripping blood that was on it from Marco.
"Even if you are a jerk, you taste good." I took a look at him.
I don't miss being human because people are so fragile.
I mean, look at this guy. He's lying there lifeless. His head is chopped off into several pieces, and his body is turned into something that will make your turn stomach upside down. I feel that I trashed all means of his identification. It doesn't look like he has any tattoos, so I am done.
I don't participate in any activities done in this modern world. I feel like a ghost, going through the motions of remembering what I once was. I do have a cellphone, but I use it sparingly. I am not into activities of the Gen-Z either.
On the other hand, there is no way to track who killed Marco anymore because I work neatly but brutally. I kill for money or favors. This is the job I am good at. I will not accept any assignment for someone if they cannot give me something in return that I want or anything better that they can offer.
I want something other than money for my job. My needs regarding it are different from those of other people. I can force others into doing anything I want them to do or provide me with what I need. Perks of having mind control.
But nowadays, ignorant humans act as if favors do not mean anything. Yet, I have no problem asking for everything I want. If I choose to, I can even ask them to take their own lives.
I have a friend who is a witch, and she is the one who provided me with these unique contracts. If you sign it, you will owe me the thing I will request. The contract is done once the favor is granted.
Isn't it hospitable? I gave myself a wicked grin in the mirror.
"So, Marco." I got into a crouching position next to him. "Where do you want us to put you? My patron requested that I hang you in public, but that will burden me." I suddenly had a wicked plan that came to mind. Oh, Marco, you are going to have quite an adventure. I grabbed Marco's body and tossed it over my shoulder.
I smiled with satisfaction as I checked the finished product of my labor. I put him on a cross and hung him from the outside of a church.
"Wait a minute, Marco! You are Jesus at this point." It made me laugh. Since it was still nighttime, nobody could see me walking around. The fact that I was also wearing black leather helped me not be seen. I cannot wait for the town's people to learn about this. Sadly, I cannot be here to see how they will react.
I made my way over to where Marco's body was hanging. "Listen, buddy, shit happens to all of us. You have gotten yourself in trouble with the wrong people." I gave him a sly grin.
"You are missing something." I take a look at my artwork. It was impossible to recognize his face at all. I even severed his ears, fingers, and toes just in case something went wrong. I wanted the process of identifying him to be drawn out and terrifying for as long as possible.
"Now I know what is missing." As I pulled the machete from its holster on my back and swiftly hacked open his stomach, a sneering grin came on my face. I felt a surge of satisfaction. His internal organs began oozing out of his body, and blood splattered all over my face. The poor kids who have to watch something like this.
Have I mentioned that I despise children? They are all obnoxious little shitstains in different places.
I looked at Marco emotionless. "My work in this town is finished. I will never see you again, Marco."
I started running as fast as possible, although I was not going anywhere. Because of my fast speed, getting around anywhere is easier. Because I do not need a car, I do not need money for things like gas or bills, although I am starting to feel pretty hungry now. The phone in my pocket began to vibrate. I had to come to a secluded place to answer the call.
I found myself in the middle of the woods. I need to find out where this is. I turned my attention to the night sky and noticed that the moon was in its full phase. I will more likely come across one or more werewolves. I cannot remember the last time I did. It would be interesting to see one of them.
I reached into the pocket of my leather jacket and pulled out my phone to answer the call.
I waited for the caller to start the conversation. I will only talk if he tells me the secret code. "The devil's door is in heaven." I responded, "Here I come, so you can run," in Italian.
The man addressed me as Miss Nevermore, "I have a task for you."
"Tell me more," I replied with a chilly tone. I should maintain my composure. I do not tolerate shits from humans or other being.
"We shall meet in New Jersey in two days." He went on further. This person gave off the impression of being powerful and piqued my interest. On the other hand, I heard his voice somewhere before. I responded, "Copy," and I hung up the phone.
New Jersey is a state that I visited a long time ago, a little over a hundred years ago. I started racing towards New Jersey, with the wind blowing through my hair and my hearing on high alert for any wolf-like beings that could be hiding in the night.
It was a chilly night here in New Jersey. Groups of people walked outside, going into and out of bars, and the music was so loud. After all, this city is famous for being vibrantly alive.
I could feel the phone vibrating in my pocket. I took it and responded to the call.
"Hello, you must be Miss Nevermore. We'll meet at the cemetery in District 2." After giving the order, he did not wait to hang up the phone.
I am curious about the identity of my 'new boss.' Hmm, who could this guy be?
I took a stroll down the street while taking in the scenery. Walking through District 2, I realized it had been three days since I had eaten anything. My new job kept me from eating, and the other pedestrians started to appear more and more like walking blood bags as they got closer and closer to me.
I quickly turned left, diverting my path from the main road. A sudden, piercing scream startled me. Before I could think, my instincts made my first response. I sprinted in the direction that the scream was coming from.
My legs were carrying me faster than ever. I found myself in a dark alleyway. A man was looming over a young woman, his teeth buried deeply in the girl's neck. A bloodsucking vampire.
I stealthily approached the vampire and leaned close to his ear while I spoke.
"That is not a nice way to treat a lady." The woman escaped after the vampire got frightened by my sudden action
.
He suddenly turned around and stared at me while maintaining a bewildered expression. I averted my gaze from the vampire and stared emotionless into the eyes of the woman.
"Run and never speak of what happened here." The woman took a quick breath before bursting through the door and running fast towards the main street.
"Who do you think you are?" It was uttered in a furious tone. My expression was lifeless, except for a sarcastic smile that began to grow on my face.
"I was hungry."
After my teeth began to show, I sank my face into the vampire's neck and bit down hard. I pinned him against the wall and drained every last drop of blood from his body as I continued to force him against the wall. He just put up a brief resistance before giving up and turning limp when I had him in my grip.
I let him go, and with a dull thud, he landed on the dirty pavement. I got down in front of him and grabbed him by the face, forcing him to look at me. "Why are you doing this?" He asked while sounding sleepy and out of breath.
"You see here... uhm, what's your name?" I asked. When I know the names of the people I am about to kill, it makes the mood much more enjoyable.
"Dylan." He responded. I gave him a slap right in the face.
"Stay awake, Dylan, or else you're going to miss out on all the fun," I said. I flashed a nefarious gleam in both of my eyes and smiled.
The look of terror spread across Dylan's face. "Please don't-" That was the last thing he could muster just before I tore his heart out of his chest.
"Wow, Dylan, that's quite a wonderful heart you've got there. Pure and bloody. You were a strong and robust young man. What a shame." I couldn't help but grin as I saw Dylan's slouched-over form.

A gentleman in a fine suit awaited me when I reached the cemetery's front gate. "I was instructed to lead you to your destination." He said courteously. Wow, a human being who was under mind control. He took the initiative to lead the way.
The sight of an enormous mansion amazed me. The faded paint and the partially collapsed walls gave the impression that it had been left unoccupied for quite some time.
It feels like I'm watching a horror movie right now. As we approached the front door, the man halted and turned to me.
"Please enter. It's an unowned property." I was about to pass the human when I let out a mocking taunt at him. I gave a harsh crash as I opened the double doors. The human stayed close behind me and calmly closed the doors.
"Hello!" I shouted, but no one was around.
"In here, Miss Nevermore."
That was the same voice I heard on the phone speaking. I went in the direction of the voice and found a huge living room with a table.
There were two chairs, and the person who seemed to be my boss was sitting on one of the chairs. He is carrying a wine glass, but I could tell from where I stood that the drink was filled with human blood rather than wine.
He positioned himself in the light beam so I could see him. What a stunning man he is now. It never occurred to me that I'd run into this jackass again. At least he is still alive.
"You..." I was the one to interrupt him.
"Lucy," I said straightforwardly.
He was startled but quickly recovered his composure.
"Leon Bloodtear," I smirked at him as I called his precious name.
"I hoped to never see you again, yet here you are to order me around," I continued, maintaining the same tone.
"Likewise, you're not as gorgeous as I remember." He said, looking at his hand and fingernails while pretending to be bored with the conversation.
He looked up at me in a calm and collected manner.
"I notice that you've gone ahead and gotten a haircut. I think your blue hair was more attractive," he said. "I see that is where you got the inspiration for your alias," Leon remarked slowly while sipping his glass. Lucy means a blue pearl.
I got up and walked over to the table, sitting in the chair directly across from Leon.
"Blue hair is too noticeable in my line of work, and if it gives you any kind of pleasure, I'm glad I changed it," I smirked as I got more comfortable in my chair. "If it brought you any pleasure, I'm glad I changed it."
I heard a sigh from him. "How long has it been since we last saw each other?" He asked while reclining back in his chair.
"Five hundred or something years, but who is counting?" I replied while resting my elbows on the table.
I mumbled, "Let's talk business since that's what I came for."
When he called, he probably wasn't aware it was me on the other end of the line. My most intriguing customers are the only ones who ever see my face. The rest of the world never even gets to see it. I'm glad that I see Leon's voice as intriguing enough.
Leon held out his hand and motioned the human to approach him. He ordered him to cut his wrist open over his wine glass so that the glass could be filled with blood. He extended his hand to me and offered the drink, but I declined his offer by raising my hand.
Leon narrowed his eyes at me but allowed the human to walk away.
"Fascinating," Leon remarked while keeping his attention on me. He could have continued to press the issue, but instead, he talked about why I was here.
"I have a job proposal for you." He said. I nod as a sign that he should spill it now. "I need you to get rid of my brother, Cedric."
"Cedric, is that the same as Cedric? As far as I know, he is the one and only hybrid." I said while making a mocking my hands in the air. I leaned forward while getting closer to Leon. He nodded.
"How interesting." It made me grin. Cedric and I haven't crossed paths, and it is like centuries. This has the potential to become a really intriguing job.
"From what I've been told, getting rid of Cedric Bloodtear is quite difficult. What would you suggest I do to solve this problem?" I asked while resting my elbows on the table. Given Leon Bloodtear's history, hearing these words come directly from the man himself is shocking.
The huge wooden stake was pulled out from Leon's coat pocket. It was covered in something that looked like metal, which snaked around it like veins that covered the entire surface.
"This is an ancient stake. It can kill any Master, including Cedric." I attempted to grab the stake, but Leon quickly pulled it away.
Leon continued, "You will get this weapon when the right time comes. I'm not a fan of getting double-crossed." He put the stake back in his coat pocket. He leaned backward in his chair with a sneer plastered on his face.
"I take your reaction as a sign you will take this job," he said.
"Yes," I responded directly. I hurriedly reached into my jacket and brought out a contract.
"What may this be?" The contract that I pulled piqued Leon's interest.
"A binding agreement declaring that I will take the life of Cedric Bloodtear. You should know that I do not work for free at this place.
The only thing I will require in return is a favor in the future. Leon appeared to be wary of me."
"And after the favor is done, the contract ends?" He asked calmly. I gave a slight nod.
I gave him a pen to use for signing, and he took it. He took the contract from my hands and read it. After listening to him read for approximately five minutes, he finally set the document on the table and signed it. Oh, that, Leon. I am not the same person that I used to be. You are in my control right now.
-
"Now tell me, why do you want your brother dead?" I asked out of sheer interest. Although the Bloodtears have always been competitive with one another, at the end of the day, they are still family.
"Let's just say that we had a falling out," Leon remarked as he moved the blood around in his glass. When Leon's voice registered in my head, I realized I had been looking at him.
"Lucy, how about you tell me what you consume instead of the blood of humans? I find it hard to understand that someone in your area of supervision would consume animal blood." Leon inquired as he leaned forward in his chair and sipped from his glass.
I got up from my chair as Leon's eyes scrutinized my every move. He then placed the glass on the table and sat back in his chair, gradually regaining his composure. His gaze felt like blazing flames on my skin, making me remember old memories I had long forgotten.
"I have a taste for something quite unusual." I gave him a sly grin as I moved in front of him, swinging my hips in an alluring manner. I wedged my foot between his legs on the chair and then pushed it backward with my other foot.
I whispered, "Something that's completely one of a kind." I climbed up onto his lap and positioned myself so that I could whisper in his ear.
I said, "Something more like you," as I felt my fangs emerge and bite into his neck. Even though I had eaten recently, I was unable to stop myself. It would have been a shame to pass up the opportunity to taste the blood of a Master.
Before he threw me off, I drank from his blood. I couldn't help myself. I did a backflip and landed on my feet while groaning. I was surprised. How rude of him.
"You taste delicious." I gave a slight grin while licking the remnants of blood that had been removed from the corner of my mouth, then spitting it off onto my finger. Simply to make him laugh.
I could see the rage rising in his eyes at that very moment. Although Leon was often calm, I always wondered what was lurking behind his bright red eyes. It was the thing that Leon made me curious, whether it was his rage, his recklessness, or his hunger. He was having trouble breathing and had put his hand on his neck, which is where I bit him.
"You're not the person I once knew-Lucy Nevermore." He stated it while observing me, moving his gaze all over my body before finally looking at my face.
"Duh, death changes most people," I smirked, crossing my arms over my chest. "I came here for business, not for a reunion of old friends." It caused me to huff.
Leon took a handkerchief from his sleeve and cleaned his hands with it, as well as the blood that had finally stopped oozing from the bite wound.
"I am not going to ask you where you got that desire for vampire blood since I already know the answer. I'm just really interested in it. After all, you have been called the greatest vampire assassin the world has ever known." As he put away his handkerchief, he gave me a sly grin.
Before I could even talk, Leon pushed me against the wall and had my throat in his grip.
"But before we get into that, let me clarify one thing. I will put an end to you if you ever drink off of me again. Don't forget that I'm a Master, and people like you can't take my life because I'm not an ordinary vampire. He said coldly. I couldn't help but grin wider.
"Are you kidding me, Leon? I am well aware that you can strangle me tighter than that. The grin on my face transformed into a sneer as I let out a croak.
The moment Leon released me, he immediately turned his back on me. I managed to fall into a crouched position and immediately grabbed hold of my throat, coughing the shit out of me.
"Then how exactly am I supposed to put an end to Cedric? If it's true that I can't kill you," I said with a mocking tone. I could not maintain my laughter and burst out laughing and hacking simultaneously.
I've taken out stronger enemies than both he and his brother. He could find her head hanging on a stick if I wanted Katty.
"Because I'm not Cedric, and I have the weapon to kill him." How he spoke gave the impression that he was unsure of his answer.
If I were in his position, I would feel the same way. You should only deal with Cedric Bloodtear if you are confident that you can kill him, regardless of whether you are close to him or even if you are a member of his family. On the other hand, I am convinced I would win since I am more familiar with the Bloodtears than they are with themselves.
