"Noooooo...."
Miya swiftly opened her eyes with force as her heart was beating so fast, she was on the bed. She was sweating all over and her breath was uneven. She was having the same nightmare again. She placed her hand on her chest to calm her racing heart.
She sat up and found herself in a strange room, this was definitely not her room. She looked around the room, it wasn't familiar until her eyes landed on the man beside her on the bed sleeping peacefully. She sighed, she was with a client and was having a nightmare. The man was still sleeping, so she stood up from the bed, picked up her purse before entering the bathroom.
She stared at herself in the mirror and splashed water on her face. She looked closely in the mirror and found some marks on her shoulders, she frowned. She never liked it when she was being marked by her clients, she didn't belong to them. They should keep their biting and nibbling to themselves. It doesn't help her business. If some other emotional client sees this, he would just leave and that would ruin her business, her name, and reputation. She'll ignore this particular client because his pay was perfect, she could tell that he had a good time, and she promised to give him that because of his money. Who releases money just like that? This man was so rich, and he flaunted it to her, that he even asked her to write the actual amount she wanted, giving her a blank check.
Last night...
Miya was at the club drinking for a while before she went to meet Jackie at home. Jackie is a working-class lady but has promised her girl's night tonight since she would have a two-day break from work. Miya was so happy about the whole idea because she can't remember the last time she had a good time with Jackie. Her work was so hectic that she came home really late. Miya had already planned how the two days would go. Each time together, they'll cherish them because they don't know when a day like this will come again.
"Hot"
"Excuse me?" Miya noticed it was the same guy who had been staring at her since she got into the club, 'when did he get so close?' she asked herself.
She just wanted to have one or two glasses before going straight home to Jackie. They had planned a ladies night together, and she was really looking forward to it. She can't remember the last time she had such a moment with her best friend. As she thought, all they were going to do tonight.
"A penny for your thought" the guy spoke, and she snapped out of her daze. She frowns
"My thoughts are not for a penny, pay well, and I might just tell you" she smiled beautiful
The guy chuckled "that was just an expression you know that right?"
Miya sip on her drink, "Oh, really? I had no idea" she giggled.
"Can I join you?" he asked
"As long as you're paying, I don't mind" he chuckled again, "you look like someone who doesn't like to spend money but likes to receive"
She shook her head "No, actually I love to spend, spend people money" she giggled and continued as she looked at the drink in her glass
"I spend a lot too. In Fact, I don't make friends with people that don't like to spend on me" she flashed him a seductive smile,
'if you know what I mean' she added in her mind.
He smiled at her, "I like your honesty, how about I pay for your drink?"
"Do what pleases you" she replied
"Can I have your contact number?" He asked.
"You're rude," she spoke as she stood up. Her phone number, that was a massive No.
He saw she was about to leave, and he stood up as well,
"Wait, I just wanted to be friends with you"
"What do you really want?" She raised her brows at him
He scratched the back of his head, she took that as a sign, he wanted more. She hated guys that couldn't speak up, wasting her time.
"Are you rich?"
"Something like that", he flashed her a smile
"How rich?" She asked, staring right at him
"I'll give you a blank cheque to fill in whatever".
"Let's go"
And he meant it. He gave her a blank cheque to fill any amount she wanted, and she even filled it before she began to pleasure him.
Miya, who was now seated in the restroom, brought out her phone to check the time. Her eyes widened when she saw the missed calls and messages from her best friend Jackie, she swallowed. Jackie would kill her, roast her and give her body parts to vultures.
She opened the messages
'Miya, I'm home. Where are you? Why aren't you picking up my calls?'
'Miya, I'm still waiting for you. Come home now'.
'Don't bother coming to this house it clocks 12:00 am'
'Don't step your feet into this house again. Find yourself a new home because there is no place for you here ever again'.
Damn! How the hell did I sleep off? She dialed the angry lady's number, but she didn't pick up
She kept trying and trying, but Jackie didn't pick up her calls.
"Ah, she must be furious. Miya, you messed up big time"
She freshened up before stepping out of the bathroom. The man was still sleeping
"Tsk tsk, I must have worn him out last night".
Miya walked out of the hotel room with her shoes in one hand and her bag in the other. She walked shamelessly out of the hotel, ignoring the people staring at her.
...
"Come on Jackie, open up" Miya pleaded for the one hundredth time
"Go away Miya" Jackie replied with a sob, her voice was low. Miya was heartbroken, she didn't mean to ignore the girl, she just had to make money.
"I'm so sorry, Jackie, I forgot."
"You forgot?!" How dare she forget?
"No, I mean I slept off" Miya sighed, she wasn't supposed to mention that she had forgotten! This girl wouldn't like to hear that.
"You slept off... where? Isn't this your house? How did you sleep off or else you go out! You told me last night was for me alone, yet you went out!"
Jackie is a very busy 26 years old lady. She doesn't have time for herself because she spends her entire life at work. So, when her boss gave her a two-day break, she couldn't think of anyone else to spend it with, if not her bestie. She doesn't know when this opportunity will come again. She has planned to quit her job because it was too much for her, but the pay was perfect, and her boss just keeps increasing her salary whenever she talks about quitting. So, how can she refuse? Just like yesterday when she spoke to him about quitting, but again he increased it and even gave her a two-day break.
"I'm so sorry, it's just that the pay was perfect, I didn't want to miss it-"
"But you can miss spending time with me?!"
Miya rolled her eyes, 'it's not like you'll pay me for the time I spend with you' Of Course that was stated in her mind
"I'm truly sorry Jackie, I'll give my whole time to you today, I promise"
"This is not the first time you've said this and failed" Jackie scoffed
"I promise this time, starting from right now, I'm all yours"
"Really?" Jackie asked.
"Really" Miya replied
"Really? Really?"
"Really? Really?" Miya replied as her patience was growing thin.
"Really? Really? Ren-"
"Oh come on!" Jackie bursts out laughing as she opens the door for Miya.
Miya quickly stepped in and frowned when she saw Jackie still laughing at her
"Weren't you crying a while ago?"
"Didn't you say you were pressed a while ago?" Jackie asked back.
"Why can't I see any tears? Or red, puffy eyes since you've been crying all night?" Miya threw another question at her. Jackie didn't have plans of replying to any, as she asked again.
"Why aren't you in the bathroom already?"
"Did you just trick me, making me feel guilty?" Miya asked, turning red in anger.
"Did you just trick me to open the door for you?" Jackie asked back as she placed one hand on her hip.
Miya threw her purse on the couch as she chased after Jackie with her heel, as they both giggled and ran around the house.
Miya and Jackie spent the whole day together as they went shopping and eating out. When it was late, they both went back home to watch a movie on Netflix while eating junk, drinking, and telling stories in-between.
"What do you mean the check bounced" Miya growled
"Ma'am, there's no need to yell. What I am saying is, it is either the owner of this check does not have this amount of money in his account currently or the account does not exist" the woman behind the desk replied.
"So what can I do? Should I come later on?" Miya asked in hope.
"Ma'am, the signature, and name don't match. I think you have to take it back to whoever gave it to you for proper checking before coming here" the lady said. She was running out of patience already.
"Are you saying this whole check is fake?" Miya's frown deepened.
"Something like that, ma'am, I'll ask you to move from the queue first. I'm truly sorry, you can come back again when all is settled. I promise to attend to you then" she smiled at Miya
"No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, No!"
'This can not be happening to me! That guy tricked me?' Miya was already boiling in anger.
"Ma'am, please move aside," the lady at the counter said harshly. The people behind Miya were beginning to murmur.
"No I won't, you'll attend to me this instant and tell me what to do next" Miya growled. She couldn't believe what was happening right now. The client she had slept with gave her this check, it can't be that the check is fake. What would she do?
"Ma'am, please don't make me call security"
"I dare you!" Miya barked at the lady.
"Do you know who I am?" Not like she was anyone important, she replied to herself mentally.
The lady sighed before standing up to her feet as her hands hit the desk,
"Security!"
Miya's eyes grew wide, 'Was she serious when she said she was going to call security?'
She looked back at the huge security men that were coming right at her.
"Shit!" She cursed.
Miya began to run around the bank as the three security men kept chasing after her. She kept screaming and shouting,
"Customers are always right... Customers are always right... I am right!"
The people inside the bank did not know whether to laugh at the situation or frown at it.
The girl might have really taken the check from someone, but the person has tricked her.
Some customers in the bank took out their phones to video the scene because it was funny.
"Arghhhhhh" Miya screamed as she bumped into someone, causing her to lose her balance. She was about to fall when the man held her waist and tried to balance her, but the force which Miya used in pushing him back made the both of them come crashing down.
Everyone gasped at the sudden turn of events, especially when most of them knew who the man was. Mr. Maxwell Collins, the CEO of D'Collins Real Estate Company. He is also one of the richest bachelors in town.
Miya, of course, didn't know that and doesn't seem to care right now.
"Can't you look where you're going?!" She screamed at him and hit his chest with her fist while trying to get up from his body.
'She's been caught because of this idiot' she hissed as the security men came to stand behind her.
The man pushed her gently from him as he got up as well.
The security men held her firmly and dragged her outside the bank. Miya kept releasing curses on the man who had made them catch her and also the ones who held her firmly.
"Leave me alone, leave me your chickens, you lazy annoying beast" she kept screaming until she was thrown out of the bank.
The bank manager of the bank had run out to meet Mr. Maxwell halfway,
"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry, Mr. Maxwell" the bank manager apologized as he tried to wipe any speck of dust from the man's clothes, but Maxwell raised his hand indicating that he shouldn't dare.
The bank manager was on his way to welcome the young man when he saw the girl bump into him and fell right at him. He might lose his job because of that crazy girl.
"This won't happen again, I promise, I swear" the manager pleaded when he saw the deep frown on the man's handsome face.
"It better not" Maxwell replied before walking away while the manager ran after him.
******
"So what you're trying to say is, that night you ditched me for a client, it was for a guy who gave you a fake check for sleeping with him?" Jackie asked as she tried to swallow her laughter.
"Can you imagine?" Miya didn't know whether to cry in self-pity or get angry at the bastard who tricked her. She was frustrated, for sure. Because of that stupid man, she embarrassed herself in public, in front of everyone in the bank.
"So you serviced him for free?" Jackie asked with a chuckle, which earned her a glare from Miya.
Jackie tapped on her chin for a while before saying to Miya,
"I still don't understand how that got to do with the video that is all over the net," Jackie said, waiting for an explanation from her best friend.
"I was angry, I refused to leave the bank" Miya simply stated.
"And you think running away from the security men screaming 'customers are always right' will cause them to give you your money? Aside from that, do you know who you bumped into?"
Miya's eyes turned red in anger,
"That idiot! He caused it, they wouldn't have been able to catch me if he had not bumped into me!"
"No dear Miya, you were the one who bumped into him" Jackie replied pointing at her
"No, I was not," Miya retorted.
"Yes, You were"
"I wasn't"
"You were"
"I was..."
"Oh, shut it, have you even watched the video?" Jackie asked, rolling her eyes at Miya.
"Nope, and I don't care" Miya responded, taking off her Jean trousers in front of Jackie in the living room
"Then you certainly didn't know who you bump into"
Miya rolled her eyes,
"Why should I care, the idiot was in my way!"
"Calling him an idiot can make you spend the rest of your life in jail" Jackie warned her, but that only made the stubborn girl scream more.
"Idiot, idiot, idiot, idiot..." Miya kept on singing as she walked into the room with her trousers in her hand.
*****
"Good morning baby" Miya greeted Jackie the moment she saw her coming out of the room.
"Good morning to you too" Jackie replied before adding
"And I can see you're eating junk this early again"
"Oh, please... leave me alone. You're leaving me in the house, so it's only fair I do what I like" she replied, crossing her legs as she placed them on the couch.
"Have you thought of getting a job? Like an actual job?"
Miya stared at Jackie as if she had lost some nuts. They both know that she doesn't plan to work. She has work, a job she was comfortable with as well. She doesn't need another job, besides, there is no job that would give her the amount of money she is getting for a night.
"Looks like you've forgotten that in a country like this, you don't really get a job if you don't have a certificate, so don't remind me of my misery" she clicked her tongue.
"You know there are still decent jobs out there that don't need a college certificate, right?" Jackie gave her a pointed look.
"Oh yes of course, like cleaning jobs, security jobs, messengers. And you know what? Thinking about it, I can imagine their salary, a pay I can get in one night you all stress yourself to get in a month" Miya shook her head in pity for them.
"Ha. Ha. Ha. Very funny, but we can tell our family and friends the kind of work we do without shame or fear of being judged" Jackie pointed out as she wore her shoes, she was ready to step out for work.
"Didn't I tell you the kind of job I do? If I didn't, allow me to clarify it for you, Jackie, I am a prostitute, I sell my body for money. Who else do you want me to tell? Victor? He knows too. Do I look like I have any other family members?" Miya threw some popcorn into her mouth as she spoke nonchalantly.
Sigh...
"What about your children? What do you plan to tell them?" Jackie asked.
"What children?" Miya asked instantly in shock.
"The ones you'll give birth to in the later years" Jackie replied, feeling pity for the girl. But Miya burst into laughter.
She shook her head after a while,
"Nahhhhh... I'm not planning on having any child Jackie, I told you before".
"Are you serious? Miya, you are not seriously serious?"
Miya has always told her she doesn't want any children but she has always brushed it off thinking the girl was only joking.
"I'm seriously serious Jackie, what do I need a child for? I'm not getting married or having kids or a family whatsoever. I just want to live my life"
"Miya..." Jackie called weakly as she walked over to the girl
"Let's not talk about this today, you're already late. Your boss might just come here to pick you up if he sees you're not in the office yet. He might think you've really quit"
"Arghhhh" Jackie grumbled
"Fine! When I get back we'll discuss this issue again" She spoke as she carried her bag.
"I won't be home when you come, I have to work" Miya informed her before Jackie could step out
"Miya don't try me, you won't like my other side" Jackie shouted as she ran out of the building
"You don't have any other side apart from the one I'm seeing right now. Love is all the sides I see and that's all the sides you will always have" Miya screamed back while laughing.
Jackie has been Miya's friend since they were little. They separated when Jackie was adopted leaving Miya in the orphanage home. Some weeks later Miya's aunt came to take her from the orphanage home as well. They didn't get to see each other again till six years back when they met at a train station. Since then both of them have always depended on each other to live.
"Why haven't you taken down the video?" Sandy, Maxwell's mother, asked the young man who just came into the house.
Maxwell sighed, he didn't even get to sit down before his mother attacked him.
Sandy called him last night to ask about the video. Maxwell didn't care about any video, he had better things to do.
He didn't think there was a need to take the video down since he didn't do anything inappropriate to the girl, and it was definitely the girl's fault. He even wanted to help her, so she wouldn't fall, but her force had pushed them both to the ground.
"Leave it is, mother, it will die down in a while. It's just some useless video, I'm not going to waste my time on those" Maxwell replied.
Although he wasn't happy that the girl had pushed him down and even insulted him, he still didn't want to give any attention to a useless video. It isn't worth it as long as his reputation isn't ruined.
"You don't have to waste any time, place an order, and it will be done for you" Mrs. Collins had a frown on her face as she put the video on repeat, not even giving her son a second look
"I don't have that time," Maxwell replied. He wondered why his mother was still watching the video if she was irritated by it.
"I'll do it for you then" she quickly replied
"Suit yourself" Maxwell looked around, but he couldn't find his sister
"Where is Joan?" His mother didn't pay any attention to him, nor did she reply to his question.
"She is in the garden sir" the servant close to him replied, seeing that his madam wasn't going to reply.
Sandy has been watching that video with a grin on her face since morning. Now she was frowning as she watched the video, and he wondered why.
"Please tell her I'm here," Maxwell said to him as he relaxed in the chair
"Yes sir"
Maxwell took his seat beside his mother. When he saw her frowning, he asked.
"Why do you have that frown on your face? If it's because of the video, then stop watching it".
"Take a look at her?" Mrs. Collins was still looking at the video intensively
"She is all over you! The girl used this opportunity to touch you all over".
"Mother..." He stressed as he massaged the space between his brow.
"That wasn't even touching, she hit me, she hit me really hard!" Maxwell whined, remembering the girl's hard hit. It was so painful, he couldn't believe that it was coming from a lady.
"I don't think so, that looked like she was romancing you"
Maxwell was about to reply to his mother when Joan's laughter filled the room
"Pfft hahaha" **laughing**
And Maxwell frowned.
"Mother has been watching that video since I showed it to her last night," Joan said with a wide smile.
"Hello, my famous brother. Your face is all over the net now" she giggled.
"Why did you bother showing her?" Maxwell asks, giving his sister a pointed look. If she had just easily ignored the video, maybe he wouldn't be answering unnecessary questions right now.
"Why not? My brother is famous. Plus, the girl looks gorgeous." Joan replied as she walked over to her older brother and sat beside him.
Maxwell raised a brow but refused to reply to her.
"What? Isn't she pretty?" Joan asked him, but Mrs. Collins barked before he could say anything.
"What pretty? She is not good-looking one bit!"
"Mum, you're just saying that because you are upset she hit your son!" Joan replied, rolling her eyes at her mother.
"I'm saying that because it's the truth" Mrs. Collins argued back
"I still think she's pretty though," Joan spoke in a low voice
"I don't," her mother said sharply, ignoring the eyes her children were giving her
"I do" she replied
"I don't"
"I do"
"I don't"
"That's enough please" Maxwell yelled. He was almost going crazy, he could not remember what brought this discussion up, but this was not why he came to see them, how did it get here? He was beginning to have a headache.
"Do you also think she's pretty?"
"Don't you think she's pretty?" both mother and daughter bombarded him with the same question at the same time
"Oh God", Maxwell was losing it, "I don't know, I can't remember"
"You can't remember, or you just don't want to admit it," Joan asked, rolling her eyes at her big brother
"I do not remember, I didn't even look at her properly" Maxwell replied, glaring at his sister
"You didn't watch the video, did you?" Joan asked.
"No I don't have time for that" Maxwell replied as he brought out his phone to make a call
Joan sighed, "Watch it"
"No"
"Watch it now, so you can tell whether she's pretty or not," Mrs. Collins urged him to.
"Mom I don't want to"
"I say watch it now!" his mom yelled, passing the phone to him
"Yes ma" he quickly took her phone and began watching the video as the two beside him kept their piercing gazes on him.
***
"She even yelled at you. Did you see it? Did you hear her? Come, come and see" Mrs. Collins called again and Maxwell sighed in frustration.
"Yes, I did mother" as he sighed, "I saw everything and heard everything"
Maxwell was getting tired of his mother. He didn't understand why his mother was so interested in the video. He has watched the video more than eight times since he got into the house.
His mistake was telling his mother that the girl was pretty, which caused him to watch the video two more times because his mother wanted him to see that the girl wasn't pretty. And when he later agreed she wasn't pretty, his sister didn't want that and asked him to watch the video again!
Eight good times! Now he remembers why he moved from the house. These two women could kill him.
He stood up, picked up his car key from the center table, and began walking out
"Where are you going?" Joan asked as she tried to swallow her laughter.
"I thought you were coming to see me?" She asked loudly as she followed him behind.
"Come over to my office tomorrow please"
After a while, Joan walked back into the house
"All clear" both mother and daughter burst out laughing loud
"Did you see his face?" Mrs. Collins asked between laughs
"Of Course I did, mother" Joan replied also while laughing
"Priceless"
After a long hard laugh, Mrs. Collins wiped off the tear at the corner of her eyes and said to Joan
"Now we have to search for that girl, I like her"
"I like her too, She looks like trouble"
"Hm," the mother gave a firm nod, "The issue now is how do we get the girl?"
"Don't worry about that mother, I'm on it" Joan replied with a sure smile
"Wow! You're fast, sharper than your big brother, I like that" Mrs. Collins looked pleased.
"And why not if not, thank you very much" Joan spoke dramatically while flinging her hair with her hands
"So... did I act it well enough? Do you think I did it well?" Mrs. Collins asked with all curiosity
"Mother, you were superb. Like you can win the Oscar for this... hehehehehe" Joan laughed.
"Oh, stop flattering me"
Mrs. Collins has been searching for the perfect girl for her son since her son acts like he doesn't have any intentions of getting married in life.
He wasn't with any girl, and he wasn't planning to be with one. If he wasn't going to do anything, she would. She is his mother, and would do anything to get him the best woman.
This lady is actually the first lady he had come in contact with for years now, aside from her and his younger sister, Joan. She is the One.
****
"So I've been thinking...." Miya started the conversation while they were eating really late at night.
"About?" Jackie asked.
"Getting a job" Miya smiled at her
"Really? That's great. So...?" Jackie stopped eating to give her full attention to Miya.
"So...."
"Hmm hmm?" Jackie urges her to continue. The last time Miya talked about getting a job after her pressure was two years ago.
"I thought of giving it a try, so I sent my application letter today" Miya licked her lips
"You send an application letter, to where?" Jackie was curious.
"A company" Miya replied
"A company? Which?"
Miya didn't respond for a while and Jackie kept staring at her without saying a word, waiting for her to speak
"D'Collins Real Estate Company"
"Again?" Jackie asked with furrowed brows and Miya nodded.
Sigh
"Miya the last time you sent your application there, they didn't accept it"
"That was two years ago. I'm smarter now, more experienced also"
"Of course" Jackie used everything in her not to roll her eyes at the girl. Sigh
"So what position did you apply for?"
"The post of secretary of the big boss himself" Miya grinned widely and Jackie stared in horror, she must be kidding, right?
"Miya, where is the application letter? Can I take a look?" She asked rushing
"Of Course" Miya jumped excitedly from her seat and hurried to the room to get the laptop.
Jackie took the laptop and began reading through it. The more she read, the more her eyes grew wider.
"You actually wrote it that way? Apply for the position of secretary to the big boss...?" Jackie stared at the scream in horror until she almost screamed.
"Miya! They won't take you seriously. Why didn't you wait for me to come and cross-check it before sending it?" Jackie yelled.
"You asked me to get a job and this is it, why are you getting angry?" Miya was sincerely confused. What did she do wrong this time?
"Ooooohhhhh Miya!" Jackie was about to lose her mind.
"First, you need to know which position is vacant and go for that one if you are interested. And you don't call the chairman or president of the company a big boss in an application letter. Do you even know if the 'big boss' needs a secretary?!?
"Now, why are you screaming? I'm just trying my luck here" Miya shoves a spoon of rice into her mouth.
"This is just useless, forget it" Jackie pushed the laptop away from her sight
"Why are you getting all worked out for nothing? I'm the one who wrote and emailed the rubbish, not you"
"Why?" Jackie tried to breathe
"Why D'Collins Company again?" Jackie asked while trying to calm her heavy breathing.
"Because I love that building, it looks classic. I love the workers dressing, and all their workers have expensive cars" Miya replied care freely
"Do you know the work they do there?"
"Real estate, I searched for it two years ago. I'm not that dumb. duh,"
"Miya just forget it, you won't get it"
"And how did you know that? I put my all into this application"
'Of Course, you did' Jackie said in her mind, of course.
"You don't just write a big boss in an application letter, who does that?"
"The one and only Miya Noel" Miya replied, raising her chin, this action caused Jackie to chuckle.
She really likes that Miya is free and lively, but occasionally she doesn't know what to do with her. Like, who writes an application letter to one of the biggest companies in the country so casually, yeah only Miya can. She doesn't care whether she got the job or not. But why not some other minor company where it would be easier to get in, but no, it has to be the almighty D'Collins Estate.
"Before I forget, I won't be home tomorrow night" they both continued eating again
"Back to your former work?"
"That's still my current work if you are talking about prostitution"
Jackie sighed, she gave up
"But I'm on a break right now, I need to find that bastard who stole my money," she said firmly with fire in her eyes
"Ehnn, I doubt that's how it happened"
"I don't care!" she yelled angrily "I'm finding him and killing him!"
Jackie's eyes grew wide
"Nah, I'm just joking I won't kill him, I'm kidding. I'll just take my money from him, that's all. I won't even touch him"
Jackie sighs in relief. She really didn't know whether this girl was joking or not.
