A little girl was seen running inside the house giggling non stop as she jumped on her mother Bernice mmasinachi miles, who was sitting down on the sofa eating apples.

"momma am back and I missed you so much" she said as she giggled and took a bite of the apple she was eating

The mother smiled lovingly at her and said

"I missed you too my naughty little pumpkin and how was school today my darling"

" daddy will soon be home so why don't you go and freshen up before he gets back" Bernice replied while kissing her cheeks lovingly

She thank God for blessing her with a beautiful and intelligent daughter like oma [her mother calls her oma shortened from Adaoma]

Although after she was disowned by her parents for getting married to Henry her husband, because he is an American and not from Nigerian, she have never regretted her choice of choosing her happiness over their choice of getting married to someone from their tribe but she still misses her parents and brother.

How she wished the parents will forgive her and call her one day to come home with her child, she made sure to give her baby girl an igbo name in order for her not to forget her roots.

She was lost in thoughts when her husband Henry hugged her from behind kissing her cheeks lovingly and she smiled as she noticed who it was," what were you thinking lost in thought darling" he whispered to her

"I wasn't thinking about anything baby just some buisness stuff you know" she replied turning around to kiss him passionately on his lips which he actively indulged her in.

Bernice entered the kitchen to see Henry's assistant miss Gwen drinking water camly lost in thought, she cleared her throat to gain her attention which she did successfully, "am sorry ma'am I was thirsty so I decided to take a glass of water am really sorry for coming in without your permission" she said hastily dropping the cup on the kitchen counter

"it's alright Gwen I don't bite you know and how was work today?" she asked trying to make her feel more comfortable although she doesn't like her, her woman's instincts tells her that she has bad intentions but she can't just accuse her wrongly but she knows her instincts is always right

" work was fine ma'am, I have to go now it's getting late" she replied and Bernice just nooded her head in affirmation

Gwen walked out the door and her face scrunched up in anger, "you just wait and see how I will send you back to where you belong you witch, I will have Mr Henry all to myself soon just soon enough you will be out of the picture for good" she said in her heart as she made up her mind to act quicker and faster after witnessing the display of affection between her boss whom she has a crush on and his wife whom she feels is an obstacle to her mission.

Just like they say a woman's intuition is always right, Bernice didn't see the need to tell her husband about the bad feeling she has towards his assistant until it was too late.

One beautiful Saturday afternoon, Henry always works from home with his assistant in his study because he doesn't want to spend the whole time in the office, he would rather have his family around him to make him smile.

Like every other Saturdays he was working in his study while oma was practicing her ballet dance with her teacher, Bernice went up to the study to check on them after which she turned to leave unknown to her that will be the last time she will set her eyes on her handsome husband and beautiful daughter again.

"hey baby do you need anything" Bernice asked opening the door a little

"just coffe will be fine honey" Henry said as he smiled gently at her

Gwen saw the exchange and glances of love between them both and she just couldn't hold it in any longer and so she decided that she must have to deal with the witch today.

Thinking about it she walked to the door after Bernice left with the excuse of using the bathroom downstairs, she spotted Bernice at the top of the staircase checking her phone and she smiled evily as she stared at the stairs and back at the woman standing before her, a rush of adrenaline rushed through her veins as she thought about her fate should she fall down from the stairs now and so she crept through the back and pushed her down the stairs.

She watched as she screamed and hit her head on the stairs one after the other before falling down the last on and blood flowed out her nose and mouth with her eyes wide open staring at her, she felt a chill run down her spine as she stared at her eyes but regained her senses when Henry came and shouted her name loudly before rushing towards her like a mad man

Gwen came down pretending to be shocked, " call the ambulance sir" she shouted with tears in her eyes

Henry stood up to get his phone from the study room and Gwen took that opportunity to whisper in Bernice ears " you had it coming for a long time bitch, go to hell and burn to ashes" she said with so much hate

Bernice was so weak to react to her talk but she looked at the face of her murderer and tears fell from her eyes, maybe she just realized that she was right about her all along, at her dying minute she only hoped that her daughter and husband will be fine.

The whole villa was in chaos, the ambulance came and rushed her to the hospital, oma was escorted to the hospital by her bodyguard and she stayed with her father at the emergency waiting room looking up to the red light hoping that it is shut off and the doctor comes with a good news.

She was just ten years old and she understood the situation of things to some an extent and she just hoped that her mother will be fine but alas...

The doctor came out with a solemn look and looked at the father and daughter duo and shake his head sadly, " am sorry Mr Miller but we lost her, by the time she got here she have lost a lot of blood and she was already bleeding internally but we tried all we could but couldn't save her, am really sorry for your loss sir".

Henry felt as If he couldn't breath anymore, he fell down on the floor and cried like a baby holding his daughter in his arms as they cried sadly. A Saturday that started as a sunny and happy day ended up being a black Saturday for the father and daughter.

The doctor left the room to give them some privacy and of course Gwen was standing outside watching them both through the glass door, for a minute she felt guilty for what she has done but thinking of the wealth she was going to get and also having the man she have always desired she felt that it was worth it but was it really worth it???

After the burial rites were performed although Henry tried to invite his in-laws to attend the burial of their daughter but it proved abortive but her brother attended secretly because he have been in touch with his sister even after her marriage with Henry, so even tho his parents forbade him to not show up he still couldn't have the heart to do that.

But before he left, he asked Henry a question that even Henry himself have been thinking since the death of his wife Bernice but still couldn't come up with any reasonable answer.

"Mr Henry I am really sorry for your loss and I know you loved my sister very much because she always said good things about you each time I talk to her on the phone but I still don't understand how she will fall down from the stairs she have been climbing for the past eight years of living with you and knowing my sister she is not the clumsy type and so I have this gut feeling that her fall wasn't as simple as it seems and I would like you to look into it " said her brother Brian

Henry sighed and said with a sad look on his face," I have asked myself the same question for a thousand times already but the funny thing is that the cctv camera in the house stopped working two days before the incident, so I wasn't able to get anything but don't you worry if her fall was an intentional murder then I Henry Miles will get to the bottom of it even if it's the last thing I do"

The determination on his eyes made Brian to calm down a little and trust him more, he sighed sadly only if his parents have approved of their union they would have seen that Henry was a nice man for his sister their daughter.

After Brian left, little oma was so sad at the thought of not seeing her mother again but then Gwen who happened to be always available for the father and daughter duo offered to take care of oma until she is able to handle the shock of the whole thing.

Henry saw it as a good way to help his beloved daughter so he agreed without hesitation. He started working from home and also hired private investigators to invistigate the death of his wife Bernice.

It's been three years since the death of Bernice but to Henry it felt like yesterday, he haven't given up on the investigation of the case even tho it looks like there was no hope but he refused to give up easily.

Gwen decided to play all her cards on the table by openly confessing her love to Henry and seducing him on that very day but on walking to his study she found a man in suit walking out of his study, so she hid behind the pillar near the study door when she overheated their conversation

"please get your team to work fast on this, I need to know what happened to my wife and also my daughter and I need a closure because I can't move on knowing her killer is roaming around freely please" said Henry

"don't worry Mr Henry we are digently working on it and will be able to give you results soon" he replied before shaking his hand and leaving.

Henry went back to his study and shut the door, Gwen panicked immediately, she can't believe that he has been investigating his wife's murder secretly, damn.. She can't help but shudder at the consequences she would have to pay if he realizes that she was behind it all.
