Ameera was in such a good mood that she didn't care about the drizzling.
She hopped happily down the pedestrian and stood impatiently when she reached the crosswalk.
It wasn't green yet.
It was going to be a joyous night. Sabastian would be incredibly happy to hear the news.
But first, she needed to give her manager a heads up. She rummaged through her bag for her phone and hastily put a call through to Martha.
"Hello," the voice came up on the other end.
"Marthaaaa!!!" Ameera squeaked, she was too happy to contain her breath. She saw the traffic light turn green and began to cross the road.
"Relax, what is it?" "Sabastian and I," She paused to catch her breath. "...we're having a ba-"
Ameera squinted her eyes at the oncoming car. It was speeding, and it seemed like the driver had no intention of stopping.
The phone slipped out of her hand, the blinding headlights making her close her eyes for a few seconds, and crashhhhh! She found herself rolling over the windscreen of the car, and falling on the ground with a thud.
She couldn't speak, neither could she move a finger. She tried to scream but no word came out of her mouth. She had only one thing in mind before she fell unconscious-her baby. Her poor precious baby.
THREE MONTHS LATER
"Don't you think I should have you fired right now?" Luther's voice was calm but deadly.
The shareholders shivered in their seats, wishing the meeting would get over soon. Although the CEO's words weren't meant for any of them, they all felt uncomfortable.
The CEO's assistant's head almost touched the ground as he bowed apologetically. "Forgive me, sir."
"Modify the proposition." Luthur spoke and his assistant bowed again.
"The meeting has been postponed." Having said that, he stood up on his feet, buttoning his tuxedo.
The shareholders rose to their feet at once, lowering their eyes.
Without casting a glance at any of them, Luther walked out of the conference room.
"What's next on my schedule?" He asked his assistant, who was trotting in order to keep up with his pace.
They were walking down the hallway, to the elevator.
Gabriel went through his boss' schedule for the day and said, "you are paying the woman a visit at the hospital."
Luther stooped in his tracks and turned around, "today is Friday?"
"Yes, Sir." Gabriel replied, biting his lip to stop him from clicking his tongue.
Luther let out a gusty sigh before turning back around. He resumed his long strides. He despised going to that hospital to see that woman.
"You should be the one going there, you know?" He sneered, as he came to a halt in front of an elevator.
Gabriel quickly punched on the button and stood behind him. "Why should that be me?" He frowned, pouting, Luther turned around and gave him a deadly glare.
If only looks were daggers, Gabriel would be six feet beneath the earth right now. He gulped uneasily, biting on his lower lip.
On the night of his brother's accident, he and Shavonne had gotten their brother drunk just so he could sleep with Charlotte and have her take in but things didn't go according to their plan.
They'd woken up to the heartbreaking news of their brother hitting a model with his car.
"You and Shavonne..." Luther's voice was graven and his face, emotionless.
The elevator slid open and he stepped inside first. There were two employees in there already and they bobbed their heads as soon as they'd sighted him, moving backwards to give him and his assistant enough space.
"We are sorry. It's the reason why I'm your assistant in the first place." Gabriel murmured grudgingly.
"I should have made you my houseboy then."
Gabriel's face drained of all colours and he heard the employees behind them choke on their spittle.
He looked back at them and turned back to the front in embarrassment.
He threw daggers at his brother's back with his eyes. His brother was a heartless man.
The elevator dinged as soon as it reached the ground floor and its doors slip open.
Hands in pockets, the CEO walked out of the corporation with his assistant-brother.
"The flowers?" He asked as he stood outside the corporation while his chauffeur drove his Lamborghini to his front.
"I got them already. Only your handsome face is needed there." Gabriel smiled alluringly.
Luther eyed his stupid brother and shook his head. He should have indeed made him become his houseboy.
A guard held open the backseat's door as soon as it came to a halt in front of him. Swiftly, he unbuttoned his tux's button with one hand and stepped into the backseat and the guard closed it.
Gabriel helped himself into the passenger's side and slammed the door shut.
"Shall I cut you off of all of your allowances-and your salary?" Luther's cold voice made him freeze.
"S-Ssir?" He stuttered.
"Don't you ever jam my door like that again." Luther's face was expressionless as always when he said this.
Gabriel murmured a "yes sir."
"Go." The CEO ordered his chauffeur.
The chauffeur bobbed and drove onto the tarred road.
The hospital was a bit far from the corporation, and traffic wasn't making it any better. The CEO was beginning to get impatient where he sat.
He glanced at the bunches of flowers lying on the seat beside him and frowned deeply.
"Get my jet down here." He ordered at once. He was starting to get irritated.
He simply wanted to drop the flowers and get the bullshit over with.
Gabriel's eyes almost popped out of their socket. He couldn't believe his ears.
Bring his jet down here? Even the driver pressed the hoot mistakenly at his boss' words and gulped.
"Erm, I-" Gabriel paused to take in a deep breath, "I do not think that is such a good idea-Sir-it will only cause more commotion."
"Erm, I-" Gabriel paused to take in a deep breath, "I do not think that is such a good idea-Sir-it will only cause more commotion."
Luther's lips twitched at this. For once in his life, his brother was being reasonable.
Of course, Luther didn't want more issues to be added to the ones on ground. He heaved a sigh and decided to look out through the window in order to while away the time.
After a short while, they arrived at the hospital. Gabriel stepped out of the car as quickly as he could and held open the door for his brother.
Luther ruffled through the bunches beside him and took a bouquet of roses. Face grim as always, he stepped out of the car, buttoning his tux with one hand. He squinted his eyes slightly at the ray of sun that met him.
The board of directors, the executives, and department administrators of the hospital were already waiting for the CEO, patiently, outside the hospital-including the doctors and nurses in charge of the model. They all greeted him warmly, bowing with uttermost respect as they walked him to the model's ward.
Luther paid no attention to them while Gabriel replied to their greetings as warmly as he could.
They rode in the elevator to the private ICU where the model was currently being taken care of. The doors to the ICU slid open, revealing the frail body of a young woman. She had a feeding tube bypassed through her mouth. She looked healthy but pitiful in this state. The CEO clicked his tongue and he stepped inside.
"Still no improvement?" He asked, staring intently at the patient's face.
The doctor in charge shook his head, "I'm afraid so." Luther nodded his head silently.
He placed the flowers by her bedside and turned around. He proceeded to leave the ICU but stopped in his tracks when he felt the administratives follow him.
"I don't need you to see me out." He was referring to all of them.
They stopped awkwardly and watched him and his brother leave. They slightly bowed their heads in respect and went back to their various posts, heaving a sigh of relief.
"Make sure to change the fluids regularly, we don't want to get that man angry." The chief of surgery advised the doctor in charge of Ameera calmly.
Doctor Philips nodded his head once in approval. He got that advise everytime the CEO of LGS visited the hospital. Since the patient's accident was related to the man, they gave extra care and attention to her.
The chief nodded his head, patting Philip's shoulder before walking away. The doctor shook his head as he watched the chief's retreating form. It'd been three months and the woman hadn't shown any sign of her recovering at all.
"Doctor Philip," Shoving his thoughts aside, he turned to meet a peer of honey eyes staring at him.
"Oh, Bridget." He smiled at the girl. "You're here to see your sister, I presume."
The girl nodded her head silently. Doc. Philip nodded his head once amd moved to the side to let her into the ICU. He sighed inwardly as he watched her walk in.
Heaving another sigh, he went his way.
Bridget couldn't help the tears that formed as soon as she set her eyes on her poor sister. Ameera didn't deserve this. She was the sweetest and most selfless person she knew. She wondered how life could be so wicked and partial. It wasn't even sure whether she'd wake up. Fear seized Bridget's heart as she thought about this.
She took her sister's warm hand in her hands and started to stroke it.
"Ameera," She'd started sobbing without knowing.
"We need you-I-I need y-yyou..." Her voice broke. Not only was her heart heavy, her eyes were heavy.
She hadn't had a good sleep since the night of the accident, three months ago. She'd shut the world off completely, focusing on her sick sister.
Bridget sank into the floor, weeping uncontrollably. "I-I c-cant... I really c-can't d-do it wi-thout youuuu..."
She was indeed helpless without Ameera. She regretted all of her wayward attitudes towards her now. If only she'd wake up, she promised to be the best sister for her.
While Bridget sobbed, a tear couldn't help but slip from the sick woman's eyes. She could hear her sister but couldn't do anything. She wanted to comfort her, to tell her everything was alright but she just seemed unable to speak. It was terribly dark in here. Too dark. She'd been in here forever. She was scared to death. She wanted to go home to her mum... to her sister-and Sabastian. She'd been in here for too long. She was scared and tired. She needed to be let out. She wanted to be let out.
"Amie, you need to come back to us..." She heard Bridget's soft voice.
I want to come back too, but I'm stuck here. How do I get out?
"You need to get your man back... He's getting married in five days time, you poor girl." Bridget stroked her hair softly.
Sabastian? Sabastian is getting married? But I'm carrying his baby. No, no, no. Ameera's face turned pale.
Wiping her tears away with the back of her hand, Bridget helped herself up from the floor. She stroked Ameera's face, heaving a sigh. When her hand touched a moist substance around the woman's eye, she was taken aback. She brought her hand to her face and stared at it with shaky breath and moist eyes. Her sister was crying in her coma?
Bridget could help the fresh tears. "You silly girl," she wailed.
Ameera saw a ray of light in the darkness she was clouded in and was doubtful. But the more she looked, the more light appeared. She squinted her eyes and opened them again-her surroundings had been transformed. It was so bright that she felt a wave of nausea wash over her.
Bridget who was staring at her hand didn't notice that the woman on the bed had finally opened her eyes.
Bridget, who was staring at her hand, didn't notice that the woman on the bed had finally opened her eyes.
So when she did notice, she was dumbstruck.
She blinked her eyes rapidly a couple of times, thinking she was seeing things. Each time she opened her eyes, she saw the same thing. She found it hard to believe and quickly rushed to get the doctor.
Doctor Philip and his nurses briskly walked to the private ICU to confirm the lady's words. When they arrived, they were shocked to their bones.
How was this possible?!

Luther's slender fingers unwrapped from the handle of the fork as he placed it in the plateful of salad before him.
With his weight, he pushed his chair backwards and stood up on his feet. "Mum, I need to get going."
Mrs. Jones furrowed her brows at her eldest son, placing the fork and knife in her hands gently on her plate.
"Why? I thought you were going to sleep over."
Although she knew her son's never for once slept over, she never stopped asking.
"No, ma." Luther's response was always the same.
It was even a wonder he was always able to make it every Friday for the family dinner.
Ever since he became the director of the corporation, seeing him at his parents' house was almost impossible.
Although Mrs. Jones didn't like this, she couldn't complain either. There was nothing she could do. The corporation was important.
"Should I come along?" George piped from where he was sitting beside his mother.
Luther shot him a cold glare and he immediately shrank in his seat.
I was only being considerate...
Shavonne only watched the drama unfold in silence. She wasn't ready to get on her brother's bad side tonight, so she was extremely quiet.
Luther strode out of the mansion immedia after kissing Mrs. Jones goodnight.
He got in his car and his chauffeur drove smoothly out of the Jones residence.
"Are you sure he eats daily?" Mrs. Jones couldn't help but ask her younger son after Luther left.
Since they were mostly together, he should be able to know.
Although the corporation was important, her son's health was more important. She wouldn't have her lying on the sick bed just like his father.
"Eat? Is he human?" George raised his brows.
"George!" Mrs. Jones cautioned.
He chuckled lightly, "mum, he can take good care of himself, alright."
She blinked her eyes a couple of seconds before speaking. "That doesn't answer my question."
"Hum, he eats daily." He paused for a couple of seconds, stuffing a spoonful of beef in his mouth.
"He doesn't maintain the three square meals daily though." He muffled.
Mrs. Jones' heart sank. Her poor boy.

The drive to Luther's mansion was smooth, and surprisingly the traffic was not too bad. He arrived home before he knew it and shuffled up the stairs for a cold shower.
Just like the other days, today was as strenuous. After taking his bath, he helped himself into a grey robe and took long strides to his study-he still had a lot of work to finish. Unlike his parents' mansion, the CEO's mansion was not bustling with maids and the likes.
He lived alone. All. By. Himself. Luther worked through the night until the following day. He didn't have a blink of sleep. As soon as it was dawn, he walked out of his study to take his bath.
After bathing, he headed to his walk-in closet and got himself clad in a navy blue tux. He strapped a versace watch on his wrist and wore a pair of black versace shoes.
Stacking every necessary document in his briefcase, he climbed down the stairs. It was the weekend but he had a lot of issues to handle, and a lot of businesses to settle.
The CEO's chauffeur was already waiting outside, downstairs. He bobbed his head once he sighted him and held open the back door of the black limousine he was to drive today.
Having helped his boss settle in, the chauffeur whose name was Mattew, walked around the car and got in the driver's seat.
He drove out of the mansion immediately.
They hadn't gone very far from his house when Luther heard his phone ring.
His eyelids fluttered open and his eyes eyed the phone that was lying on the seat beside him. He saw the caller's ID and groaned inwardly.
This had better be good. With a swift movement of his hand, the phone was already pressed firmly against his ear.
"Speak." His voice was alluring, yet cold.
It made Mattew shiver in his seat and he almost lost hold of the steering wheel.
"She's awake." George's hasty voice came from the other side of the phone. Luther's brow was raised slightly.
"Brother, she's awake! She's-"
Tut tut
Luther hung up the call, cutting the voice on the other end off.
George couldn't help but glare at his phone like it was the CEO.
Luther raised his head calmly, "the hospital."
He said just these two words and the driver understood immediately.
He swerved the car and drove straight to Heal Hospital. How come? was the only thought on Luther's mind.
As soon as he arrived at the hospital, as usual, the administratives were already waiting for him.
Even George was there already, acting like the capable assistant he was. Hehe.
"Relay a message to DP Corporation that I'll be a little bit late." The CEO ordered his assistant immediately he stepped out of the car, walking briskly into the hospital with the hospital's administratives.
George did exactly as he was told immediately, calling DP corporation to tell them that the CEO would be a 'little bit late' to the meeting.
Not long enough, they all walked into the private ICU that was occupied by the model.
The whole management of the hospital was still in shock.
The lady's recovery from coma was so sudden and unexpected that they had to wait till the following morning before letting Mr. Luther's side in on the news.
