Chapter 1 Prologue

Billions of hearts were crying with the news of Alexander getting married today. But he stood there with no excitement on his face. The arrangement and the setup reminded him of something so dark. He gulped them deep inside so that he could forget them anytime soon.

"Elsa is not there" Ron Taylor trembled in fear when he broke the news to his wife. Back in the main hall:

"Boss, Madam Elsa is missing," Mac said, as punctual as ever. Before her parents came to know about it, Mac had discovered the news. Alex shifted his gaze to the Taylors, who were already shivering.

Alex passed a message to Mac to pass it on to Taylor. He couldn't let history repeat itself. If he is here, he will not return home empty-handed. His marriage would happen for sure, as per his family's wish. For that, he was willing to do anything.

Inside the bride's room:-

"Boss asked me to deliver a message," Mac broke the news as Ron stiffened in his position. He knew that the information would be something they would not like. Would they back off from investing in their company? But what else would they expect?

"Elsa is not the only daughter you have," Mac delivered the words as spoken by Alex. Of course, Ron could sense the chill behind the words. But could he ask his daughter to do this? He never would. She would never listen to him.

"Even I am not the only daughter you have left with," Mac widened her eyes at Clara's words. She couldn't be so evil as to ask them to consider Alina, their younger daughter, who was 18 years old. Age is not a matter, but how could she ask them to consider Alina when she was the elder among everyone?

"You can save us. I have never asked you for anything," Ron Taylor spoke, but Clara was nowhere listening to his nonsense talks. Mac left the place as he knew this girl would eventually accept the offer and come in a few minutes.

"If your drama is over, I shall leave the place," Clara took her purse, but Elena, the grandmother of Elsa and Alina and the mother of Clara's stepmom, Bella, stopped Clara at the entrance with a sharp gaze. "Be sure that you have nothing to lose before you deny helping your father," Elena's words were curt and scary.

"Paxton!" Elena whispered near her ears as Clara's eyes enlarged immediately. They couldn't blackmail her like this, could they?

Clara stood there without asking any questions. She wanted to see what this old lady was up to.

"He is just ten years old. Just imagine what he will do when he comes to know about his birth secret?" Elena was one cruel woman for sure. Clara looked stunned. She couldn't back off, especially when it concerned Paxton. She promised her mom that she would look after Paxton, her brother.

After a silence of two long minutes, Clara composed herself. Though she had an extremely rough life with her father and others, she always maintained her dignity and elegance in almost everything. Her calm and composed nature resembled her mom, and her decisions were always accurate and sharp.

"I can't just wear this dress. Ask Jenny to deliver the top model's dress that I designed exclusively for the Global fashion show," Clara started removing her light makeup as her parents stood there shocked. What had Elena done in just five minutes? They couldn't hear their conversation. "I have to look good in my marriage, don't I?" she asked again as both came out of the shock and nodded their heads vigorously. Bella, her stepmom, informed her assistant to deliver the dress quickly. She didn't want Clara to change her mind.

"Do you take Alexandra Fernandez as your better half? Are you willing to share your life with him?" Clara snapped open her eyes, hearing the priest's words. Should she say no and run away?

She looked around, and her hands started shaking. She didn't want to marry this person for sure. But could she bear the weight of denying this marriage?

"Yes, I do," she replied. She is aware that she couldn't say no.

"I declare you both as husband and wife," the priest announced them as husband and wife.

Alex was known for his rudeness in the business circle. His cold behavior made him a hero.

His soft nature was unknown to the world except for a few in his family.

Clara was like Cinderella in that tale. Did she meet the real Prince Charming?

Both struggled a lot in their past. Would they help in healing each other or end up hurting each other?

Chapter 2 Cinderella in modern era

Clara's point of view:

"Cinderella was bullied. She had a very bad childhood. But one day, she got freedom. She met her prince charming. All her miseries ended." I recalled the Cinderella tale. It's been my favourite since I was 6 years old. Back then I had no idea that it would be my tale in just a few days. But the only difference is the first half of the Cinderella tale is not ending anytime.

The only thing that discriminated me from Cinderella is I knew what I was doing and why I was enduring them. Also, we are super rich. I am thankful for that. I don't need to do all the household chores. But is it easier than what I am doing now? Living here with no self-respect is killing me every day.

"Sister, did grandma give you a punishment again?" Paxton asked, grabbing my hand. He is too mature for his age. He is just 10 years old. One of the reasons to endure everything here is my brother.

"She can try forever. But I won't give her that satisfaction to break me" I kissed Paxton's forehead as he smiled shyly. He is too cute.

"Father loves you. Why don't you share these all with your father?" His question made me remember the worst day of my life.

Flashback

Many years ago. It was even before Paxton came into my life. May I was just 6 or 7 years old.

"Dad, I am telling the truth. Grandma purposefully did it," The little me cried, showing the burned mark on my legs.

"Master, I didn't do this. I promise. Baby Clara fell herself. I tried to save her and even got my hands hurt," Elena, the old lady who is the head of all the housekeepers, spoke, trembling in fear. But she was glaring at me in intervals to send me shivers.

"Dad, she is lying." I felt a hot slap over my face. My father was the world's best dad to me. His slap was not just the first one but was a heavy one to crush my entire thing. I felt betrayed by my dad. He didn't only think that I was lying but also punished me for something that I had no idea about.

"I see that you started lying to me. These all happened because of your mother" My mom came to rescue me. But I was only glaring at my dad unbelievably. My mom was hugging me, but I was no longer crying. I saw the lady smile in victory.

Is it her plan? But is it her fault? Not at all. It's my fault to trust my dad.

Flashback ends.

That was the last day I called him dad. But after some days, I stopped talking to him except for some things. I don't want to remember every damn thing which made my family like this. I don't want to cry over the past. I always believe in building a beautiful future. And I know what to do to escape these people.

"Don't forget that power and status are the only things that can save us from evil people. Study when you are young. Apply them when it's time." I always teach Paxton these things. He is small. But I don't want him to be small forever. I want him to grow strong quickly.

I stepped down from the room to get out of this hell at least sometime earlier than usual.

"Clara. Have breakfast, dear," I am used to this drama. I looked at the same old lady.

"No. I am not hungry." I replied as I turned to leave the place as soon as possible. I am getting suffocated here.

"Don't show your anger to the food, dear," Elena said with a smile as Ron Taylor looked at me with rage. He doesn't like whenever I disrespect anyone in this family.

"They have prepared food for you too. Don't create drama every day," Mr Taylor yelled at me. I flinched away at his tone. But I silently came and sat there.

"You love pasta, right." Elena served me the hot Pasta. I took a bite slowly. I knew this woman loved to see me teared up. It was too spicy. I gulped them silently. I don't want to complain about anything. I took another bite and followed by a third. Damn, my tears formed in my eyes as Elena smirked at me.

"Are you okay, dear" There comes my stepmom, Bella Taylor, daughter of Elena. Now everyone would have come to know what Elena planned for that day. Of course, to make her daughter Mrs Taylor by eliminating me and my mom. But I am left here as my mom died long long ago.

"I have an important meeting," I mumbled. I stood up and left the food untouched. I didn't want to hear Mr Taylor's yelling.

I bumped into another thing in the early morning. Damn, my day and my mood.

"Hi, dipstick. Everyone has eyes. But I don't find them in you," Elsa, my step-sister, just a year and a half younger than me, spoke with a sly smile. She would taunt me all the time. Whenever I look at her, my blood boils realizing that how my father maintained his affair right under my mother's eyes.

"Same way that everyone has a brain, and I wish you to have them," I don't sit back to hear her words. I always pay back for words. But I know every time, my reply would weigh me more. She would complain to her grandma, and she would plot against me.

Didn't I say that I am Cinderella in the first half? But yeah, she doesn't rebel or reply. But damn my mouth. I can't sit back like a fairy in distress. My mouth is the only enemy for me.

"Didn't you enjoy the spiciest Pasta? It was for flirting with my friend," Elsa spoke, and I remember the conversation with her friend, James. But it was he who was flirting with me. Whatever, It's Elsa's habit to torture me every time. I don't know why she holds so many grudges against me.

"I loved it. Ask your grandma to work a little harder. It's getting boring nowadays" Again, damn my mouth. It was already burning, and I couldn't control my words. These people would make it even worse. Should I surrender to them?

I left the place as I didn't want to instigate her further. I entered my home finally. My Shopaholics. My fashion house. My mom's fashion house. The only thing I asked Mr Taylor. The only time I have ever kept my self-respect aside and talked to that person.

"Ma'am, Miss. Florida is offering more for you to accept." Jenny came running as soon as I entered the office.

"Jenny, I am not running this for business or money. It's my passion. And I will choose my projects. I don't like Florida. And I don't want to design for her daughter's wedding," I spoke in a low voice. Her daughter was my classmate and Elsa's friend, and that's the end of the topic.

"Don't disturb me. I will sleep now," Saying so, I lay on my couch. It is my favourite couch. My heart weighed so much with my daily routine. Why should I live like this?

I feel like sleeping over my mom's lap whenever I sleep on this couch. My eyes teared up automatically.

"I miss you, Mom," I mumbled as tears rolled down my cheeks. I wish she was here with me. Maybe she would come here just like that fairy Godmother in that Cinderella tale to grant me any wishes.

Chapter 3 Am I rejected

Clara's point of view:

After a long day, I got into my car to get back home. Why does the day end so soon? I remembered the morning banter with Elsa. What will the old lady do now? She has punished me in every way possible. Now she can only repeat those. Maybe I have an advantage of experience. My eyes teared up thinking about those. I should cry now so that I can face everything with a straight face.

I love to cherish how that lady's face lost its colour every time I stood there unaffected. That was my sole strength. But her punishments and tortures are so damn severe that no one would have given them even to their enemies. I remember the day. She locked me inside a room for a whole day when I was only eight years old. I always shiver uncontrollably whenever this old lady is around.

I stood in front of my home which looked not like mine anymore.

A loud laughter filled the hall as I entered the hall. There were so many people sitting there. Suddenly everyone turned to look at me. An old lady smiled at me. She looked familiar. But I don't remember meeting her before.

"Clara?" she hugged me as I stood there out of the place.

"How beautiful you have grown to" She was ranting about me.

"It's Grace Fernandez. Your grandma's Bestie," Mr Taylor introduced her to me. Damn yeah, I remember her now. Mom and my grandma used to stay in her home with me for summer vacation when I was too little. I don't even remember my age. Meeting her made me emotional. It felt like I was meeting my mom or grandma again after so long. I hugged her to show my emotion. She pats my back.

"We came here to ask for your hand to marry my grandson" I broke the hug as I looked at her in shock.

Marriage?

I have despised the concept. My mom gave her everything in this marriage. But what did she get in return? Betrayal? Is it coming to me now? I gulped the lumps in my throat. I looked around nervously.

"No. I am not ready for marriage. Please," I voiced out suddenly, as I didn't want anyone to compel me on this topic. I looked at Mr Taylor. He didn't expect me to talk this way. He didn't like the idea. But I can't let him decide my life.

"Dear, you can meet my grandson," Grace Fernandez tried to convince me.

"Please, Grandma. Don't force me." I replied with a soft plea, and the lady seemed to understand me instantly. She smiled at me as she kissed my forehead.

"Anyways, I am happy to see you." she kissed my forehead. I sat beside her, and she talked about everything. Her family, her son, Frank Fernandez, and even she gave a hint about her grandson. She always praises her grandson, and I suppose it's Alex. I have read about him in magazines. Did I push the luck away even without thinking about it? I shrugged off my thoughts as I knew marriage was only a betrayal. I entered my room after a long talk. It's the only time I talked for so long.

My legs halted in the entrance of my room. Damn, who did this? My clothes were here and there. My eyes fell on the red gown that was my mom's favourite gown. I took the pieces of the dress in panic.

"Oops. My bad. I thought you would agree to marry Alex. So I wanted to show you what will happen if you agree to marry him." Elsa stood there with no regret. All I want now is to smash her head for real. Why the hell it's always me? I took the pieces of the gown without minding her words.

"Princess, why did you worry? I had already made sure that she wouldn't say yes." Elena came behind her with a smirk. What did she do now? Paxton? I stood up abruptly as my hands trembled. What did this woman do now?

"Don't panic. Your brother is fine as long as you don't say yes." Elena laughed as I got relieved to hear them. They are the worst people I have ever seen.

In just a some days, as per my grandma's will, my mom's property will be in my name once I am 23 years old. I will leave this place forever with Paxton. The thought made me a little relieved. I have to endure them just a little more.

"It's even boring to blackmail her. See how she is standing there." Elena seemed to get pissed off to the next level. I never spoke to her or replied to anything, and even retorted her torture.

"Her mouth works as fire whenever she is with me alone," Elsa spoke the fact for a hundred percent. Elsa at least got to see my real me for at least 10%.

"Whatever. We should now focus on getting your proposal for Alex," Elena whispered to Elsa. Did she think I was dumb too? But wait, I saw Elsa kissing another guy that day. But she is blushing with the proposal thing? Whatever. These people can plot anything, and I don't give a damn. I picked up my mom's gown. I started designing another one and have decided to use this fabric to style it.

End of pov

Thirds person point of view:

"She denied it," Grace Fernandez spoke with sadness. Her lips gave a huge pout.

"Omg, someone rejected my son?" Frank exclaimed loud enough to grab the attention of someone who came inside the room, listening to them.

"How can anyone reject the most eligible bachelor of the city?" Roselyn Fernandez asked with a fake faint as Alexander Fernandez sat opposite to the crazy family that was teasing him black and blue.

"Should we celebrate this?" Mac, his secretary cum his best friend spoke with a giggle, and Alex was like to smash his head for real.

"Should I reconsider your pay this month?" Alex asked as Mac took his phone, pretending to attend a conference call about the next project, showing he was damn concerned about his pay alone.

"You didn't even ask my opinion. I am not," Alex started as all the three spoke in the union.

"Not ready for marriage" All the three laughed as if they had cracked a big joke.

Alex sighed tiredly. Why is it so hard to understand?

"Should I be the old and cunning woman to blackmail my grandson to get married or forget about the family empire?" Grace asked as her eyes twinkled with the thought alone.

"How about I join you and make his life miserable by snatching his credit cards and every luxury thing?" Frank seemed to like the idea. Rose was damn enjoying the scene.

"How about you all play in the hall and leave my room now?" Alex asked, standing up as if he was exhausted from their drama. Grace stood up with a worried face. She is sad. She couldn't watch her grandchildren like this.

"I wish for you to get married soon. We won't force anything. But try to consider our wish" Grace is always wise to convince anyone with her words. Even though it's not emotional, it hits right at Alex. Of course, he can't be selfish and mourn over his past over the years.

"It's high time you move on. So, we can at least take steps to convince Rose. Why are you still holding on to the past?" Frank sighed tiredly.

"If you are not ready to move on, there is no way we can expect anything from Rose," Frank spoke with dismay. Rose's face turned dark with his words.

Alex looked at his little sister. She deserves a happy life. If he can do anything for her, why not? But is he ready? Alex and Rose sat there in complete silence.

"You can't stay single forever. Just say yes to Dad. They will find a good partner for you. You can't just waste your life." Rose spoke, keeping a hand over his shoulder.

"On my wedding day, I will tell you the same, and I hope you say yes to me" Alex stood up as Rose started trembling with the thought of marriage alone. But wait. What does he mean?

"Omg, He said yes?" Frank was hiding behind the door and came inside jumping.

"Of course. Dumb son. He meant that only" Grace jumped like a teenager as she also was hiding there. Alex rolled his eyes at their drama. How dramatic his family is. But yeah, he got curious all of a sudden to know who Clara was. Did he get rejected?
