Chapter 1 1

Night fell.

In the slums of Detroit, a faint light lit up the room.

"It's such bad weather." Emily looked at the gloomy sky outside. She was a little worried. "I hope it won't rain."

She walked to the bedside and sat down. It was the only furniture in the room.

The drainage system in the slums was not good. Once it rained, a disgusting stench would spread.

"It hurts." She was pregnant. She had a slender figure and fair skin, but her belly was disproportionally big.

The contractions were getting intense today.

Suddenly, she felt a warm flow coming out and sliding down between her legs.

  It started to rain outside.

Emily was curled up on an old bed, blood streaming from between her legs.

The pain lasted for hours, and she knew that the baby was coming.

Emily gripped the bed sheets tightly, and her body twitched from the huge pain.

"Please! Somebody, save my child..." She bit her lip and felt as if she was leaving her body.

A few months ago, Emily was still a socialite. One night, she was drunk and then had a crazy night.

When she woke up the next day, she was already in the slums.

Apart from Rose, her stepmother's daughter, Emily had seen anyone else.

Every time she thought of that night, it seemed that she could still feel the man's passion. His every touch thrilled her, but since she was drunk, she didn't remember the man's face.

Another wave of pain hit her and cleared her mind. It was not the time to recall that night. She and the baby were in danger.

Emily sat up and leaned against the wall as she moved toward the window, and then she beat the glass with all her strength.

"Help! I beg you..." As the pain grew stronger, Emily's voice grew weaker.

At that moment, a car stopped outside the house.

A woman got out of the car and walked towards Emily.

"Rose, I beg you. Please save my child," Emily pleaded.

Rose opened the door and walked in. She shook her umbrella.

"Emily, you're a mess," Rose said disdainfully. "I hope your pursuers see how you look now."

Emily fell to the ground. She had lost too much blood and was powerless.

"Emily, do you know what happened eight months ago?" Rose walked over and kicked Emily in the belly. "That man is my gift to you. Do you like him?"

"Stop it." Emily clutched her stomach, trembling in pain. "Why, Rose?"

"You shouldn't have existed. Everything from the Hopkinson family belongs to me." Rose flickered her hair and continued, "You are no different than the rats in the sewers, look at you."

"Vicious woman!" Emily glared at Rose and couldn't believe what she had just said.

Emily felt that something was sliding down. It was as if her body were being torn apart. Her child finally came out.

It was a pair of twins.

She listened to the babies' cries with a smile of relief on her face.

  'Babies, my babies,' she thought.

She raised her hand and touched her babies. She wanted to pick them up, but she had no strength.

At this time, Rose came over.

"Rose, what are you doing?" Emily was terrified. She could feel Rose's malice. She was worried that Rose would hurt her babies.

"Well, your babies." Rose snatched them from Emily.

Rose walked to the bedside and sat down. Then she put her hands over the babies' faces.

"No, Rose. Give them back to me," Emily shouted.

"Emily, they are just as repulsive as you are." Rose's smile was wicked.

  Then, they stopped crying.

"No! they're not dead," Emily yelled in despair.

She would protect them with her life. She wouldn't give them up. Emily crawled forward.

  Emily screamed in pain.

  Rose stepped on Emily's hand.

"How touching! Emily, sadly, they're already dead." Rose sounded like a monster.

Emily was shocked at her words and passed out.

Rose covered her nose in disgust since the room was filled with the smell of blood.

Emily was covered in blood. Her clothes were dirty and she was still bleeding.

"Looks like Emily is dead. Easier for me," Rose said smugly.

Rose was about to leave when faint cries came from the bed.

"Are they still alive?" Rose mocked.

Rose didn't know who Emily had slept with that night. The tramp Rose hired didn't manage to see Emily that night, but fortunately, Emily didn't know who the man was either.

Looking at the twins on the bed, Rose remembered that the Scott family had been looking for a woman recently. Then, she realized that Derek Scott was also in the same hotel that night.

These two babies looked like Derek. She thought, 'If I could marry Derek, I would be able to control the Hopkinson family.'

So, she picked them up and said to Emily, who was unconscious, "Emily, your babies are mine now."

Rose put them in the car, and then she came back to drag Emily into the trunk.

"I'm sorry, but I can't let you live." Rose slammed the trunk.

After a long time, Emily woke up.

She trembled. She was drenched to the skin and cold.

  Where was she?

The rain was heavy, and there was no light around, so Emily couldn't tell where she was.

She could smell the soil. She reached out her hands and realized that she was in a shallow pit.

'Are they going to bury me alive?' An idea popped up in Emily's mind.

Her hair stuck to her face, and the rain dripped down her hair.

'No, I can't die here. I must save my babies.'

Emily dug up the soil with all her power. Her desire to survive gave her strength.

She pushed away the dirt on her legs and suddenly, her belly began to hurt again.

  "What's happening?"

Emily moaned, touching her belly. It still looked big, though she just gave birth to two babies.

'Are there more babies inside?' Emily wondered.

Emily adjusted her position and lay on her back. Then, she opened her legs, trying to breathe through the pain.

She felt as if her body were being torn apart. She pushed hard, and one by one the babies came through.

The rain stopped, and Emily was lying exhausted in the muddy pit.

The babies' cries came through the pit. Emily turned to look at them and couldn't help crying.

She struggled to pick her babies up and wrapped her clothes around them.

After that, she felt relieved and passed out.

Though unconscious, she still clung to her baby.

Chapter 2 2

Five years later, at Chicago Airport.

Emily was wearing sunglasses. She was pushing two suitcases, with two children walking beside her.

"Mommy." Diane hugged Emily's leg and looked up at her.

"Stupid Diane, stop acting like a spoiled child. You're making mommy tired," Chris said coldly.

Diane stuck her tongue out at Chris.

"Mommy, are you tired? I'll give you a kiss." Diane kissed Emily on the cheek.

"Chris, you have one too." Diane also kissed Chris on the cheek.

"Diane, don't do that to me." Chris wiped his face.

He held Diane's hand to keep her from bumping into others.

Emily took Chris and Diane to the hotel. Then, she put Chris and Diane to bed.

Emily changed into a black dress. As she turned back, she saw Chris looking at her with his dark green eyes.

"Chris, what are you doing here?" Emily asked gently.

"Mommy, are you going somewhere?" Chris asked in concern.

Emily patted Chris' head. She knew that Chris had been trying to take care of her.

"I have something important to do."

"I want to go with you," Chris immediately said.

"Chris. You can't come with me this time." Emily said gently. "Take care of your sister and I'll be back soon, okay?"

"Okay, Mommy. Come back soon. Diane and I will wait for you." Chris agreed reluctantly.

"Okay, sweetie." Emily kissed Chris on the forehead. She didn't want to leave them alone here, but there was something she had to do now.

Emily drove on the road. She turned on the radio and heard a piece of news. "The engagement party between the Scott family and the Hopkinson family is being held at Azure Hotel. Many celebrities will attend the party..."

  Azure Hotel.

Rose drove the maids out of her room. She needed to talk to her mother, Laura, privately.

"Laura, I'm so nervous." Rose held Laura's hand.

Five years had passed. Derek had never mentioned marrying Rose. At that time, she brought the twins to Derek, hoping to marry him. Derrick took the babies in but did not marry Rose.

"Don't worry. You will be Mrs. Scott. You gave Derek a pair of twins. He has agreed to the engagement. Soon, you will marry him." Laura comforted Rose.

After listening to Laura, Rose felt better.

"Remember, Rose, you are the future hostess of the Scott family. I won't let the two little bastards get in your way," Laura said firmly.

Suddenly, someone knocked on the door, which shocked Laura and Rose.

"Derek, it's good to see you," Laura said with a smile.

"Hello, Mrs. Hopkinson. Is Rose ready? The party has begun," Derek said coldly.

Laura passed Rose's hand to Derek.

The guests had gathered in the hall downstairs.

Derek and Laura came down together while everyone was watching them.

The guests raised their glasses to the couple with smiles on their faces.

"Thank you for coming to Rose and Derek's engagement party today." Laura looked at Rose lovingly. "I have a gift for Rose. Bennett had a will before he passed away..."

"It looks like Rose is not only going to become Derek's fiancée, she'll also inherit the Hopkinson family's property," someone said.

Laura looked at Kevin under the stage and said with a smile, "Kevin, as Bennett's lawyer, please read his will."

A middle-aged man with glasses walked up with a document in his hand.

"Everyone, I am Bennett's lawyer. Now, I will read his will."

  "The Hopkinson Group will be..."

  "Wait."

Kevin was just about to say the name when he was interrupted by a woman's voice.

  Everyone looked at the door.

Emily stood outside the door in a long black dress. Her hair was tied up, and she was holding a white daisy in her hand. She was not wearing any jewelry.

"Who is this? This is Derek's engagement party, not a funeral..."

"Emily? I thought she died five years ago!"

"She is also Bennett's daughter. Is she here to fight for the inheritance?"

The crowd whispered. They looked surprised.

They did not expect that a person who had been missing for five years would show up at the engagement party.

Rose was so frightened that she had cold feet. She buried Emily with her own hands, yet Emily was standing right in front of her!

Laura walked to Emily as she entered the hall. She grabbed Emily's hair and was about to slap her.

"Get out! If not for you, Bennett wouldn't have been so ill."

Emily grabbed Laura's hand and slapped her.

"Mom!" Rose screamed and rushed over. "Emily, this is my engagement party. Get out of here."

"I'm the heir of the Hopkinson family, and I need to be present when the will is being read," Emily said firmly.

"I'm the heir. Get out, now!" Rose shrieked and pounced on Emily.

Emily dodged. She picked up the cake on the table and smashed it on Rose's head.

Rose and Derek were supposed to cut the cake together before the engagement party ended.

Now, the cake, as a simble of their union, was ruined.

Laura was mad. "Emily, how dare you ruin Rose's engagement party!"

"Emily, this is the Hopkinson family's business. Let's talk about it in private, okay?" Ash came forward and stood in front of Laura.

"Ash, my dear uncle, you always take Laura's side. Should I remind you that she is my father's wife." Emily looked at Ash mockingly.

"Shut up, Emily. Bennett made the will before he died. You are in no position to question it," Laura quickly cut in, since she knew that Emily was implying that she had been sleeping with Ash.

"Very well." Emily grabbed the will from Kevin's hand and took out a lighter. She burnt it in front of everyone.

"Now, am I qualified?" Emily wiped her hands on the tablecloth.

"No, my will!" Rose tried to grab it. But it had already turned into ashes.

"Look what you've done, Emily," Ash shouted.

"I burned the will because it's not real," Emily said calmly.

"What? Emily, do you think Bennett would make you his successor?" Laura said angrily. "If not for your scandal, Bennett wouldn't fall ill! He died because of you!"

Yes, Emily knew that everyone thought she was the one who killed Bennett.

Chapter 3 3

"Shut up." A man said in a mad tone.

Everyone looked over. It was Derek, Rose's fiance.

Derek was tall and handsome. As the heir of the Scott family, he looked powerful and deterring.

He frowned in disgust at this farce. Although he didn't like Rose, he hated it more when people were making a scene.

Emily watched as Derek walked up to her. She looked straight into his eyes, feeling that he was somehow familiar.

Derek's face darkened. He hated people staring at him, especially women.

"If you are not here for the engagement party, please leave," Derek said impatiently.

"As the head of the Hopkinson family, I must be present when the will is being read. Mr. Scott, you can't ask me to leave." Emily knew that Derek was Rose's fiance and would take her side.

The Scott family was powerful, especially after Derek became the head of the family. Emily knew very well that she could not fight against the two families at the same time. However, Rose killed her babies, and Emily couldn't suppress her anger.

Moreover, Bennett's sudden death also made Emily suspicious.

At this time, Rose stood up crying. Her expensive dress and jewelry were covered with cream. Today was supposed to be a wonderful day, yet because of Emily, it became the worst day of her life.

"Derek, you are my fiance. You've got to protect me and ask Emily to leave," Rose shouted in despair.

Derek did not look at Rose. He turned to Laura and said, "Mrs. Hopkinson, please take Rose back first."

"No, I don't want to go. Emily, you bitch!" Rose roared.

She rushed over but Emily dodged her.

There was a champagne fountain behind Emily. Rose lost control and crashed into it.

A little boy stood beside it.

  "Oh no!"

Someone screamed, and the women closed their eyes in fright.

Emily dashed to the little boy. She pulled him into her arms while the champagne glasses fell on her back.

Emily ignored the pain. She checked the little boy and found that he was not injured. Then, she felt relieved.

"Aaron, are you alright?" Ian ran over on his short legs. He looked at Aaron and then said to Emily, "My name is Ian. Thank you for saving Aaron. He is my brother."

Emily looked at Ian and felt that he and Chris looked alike.

Aaron moved while staying in her arms, so Emily looked down at him.

Aaron hugged Emily tightly, clutching her clothes. He seemed to like Emily very much.

"Aaron, let go of her," Derek said as he walked over to Emily.

  Aaron did not respond.

At this time, Rose had just gotten up from the table. She reached out and grabbed Aaron's shoulder. She screamed, "Aaron, I'm your mother. You're not allowed to hug her."

"Stop! You will hurt him," Emily shouted anxiously.

Aaron set his teeth like an enraged young wolf. He turned and bit Rose's hand. Rose uttered a sharper shriek.

She let go of her grip, then Aaron went back into Emily's arms.

Everyone was shocked. Why did Aaron like Emily so much?

Rose glared at Emily. Everything messed up after Emily came back.

She was Aaron and Ian's mother, yet they preferred Emily. Was it because Emily was their biological mother?

  Ian was also surprised.

Aaron had autism, and he hated people touching him. Except for Ian and Derek, Aaron wouldn't let anyone touch him.

  However, he hugged Emily.

Ian was a little jealous, though he didn't want to admit it.

Laura walked out of the crowd and helped Rose up. Laura rubbed her hand comfortingly.

"Emily, I don't know where you have been for all these years, nor do I know why you ruined the engagement party the moment you came back. However, I am still very grateful because you saved Rose and Derek's son." Laura emphasized the last sentence.

Then Laura said to Derek, "I'll take Rose back first. I need to clean her wounds."

Then Laura took Rose away. Kevin and Ash followed behind.

"Aaron, let the doctor check on you," said Derek as his gaze fell on Emily again.

Emily wanted to leave too since she had completed her mission. Rose wouldn't be able to inherit the family property now.

Aaron was still in her arms and did want her to leave. She smiled. Although he was Rose's son, she liked him.

She took out a lollipop from her handbag, removed the wrapper, and handed it to Aaron. "Aaron, everything is OK now. I need to go now, okay?"

Aaron raised his head. His face was red, and he looked a little embarrassed.

"Alright." His eyes were fixed on Emily as if he was afraid that she would disappear.

Ian was jealous. He was with Aaron every day, and it was the first time he had heard Aaron speak, yet Aaron was speaking to a strange woman.

Ian watched Emily gently rubbing Aaron's head, and hoped she would rub his head too.

"Hello, Ian. This lollipop is for you."

Ian's gaze was so intense that Emily couldn't ignore it. She took out another lollipop and gave it to Ian.

Ian smiled as he licked it.

  Emily couldn't help laughing.

Though Aaron and Ian were adorable, she didn't want to get too close to them. After all, they were Rose's children.

She looked at Aaron in her arms. "Aaron, I'm going home now. Go home with Derek, okay?"

Ian was enjoying the lollipop. He walked over to pull Aaron's hand, yet Aaron grasped Emily's hand and refused to let go of her.

Aaron looked at Emily and pleaded, "Come home with me."

Everyone looked at Emily in shock, as if she spelled magic on the boys.

Emily found Aaron very lovely. She couldn't help but kiss his cheek and say, "You and Ian go back with Derek first. I'll come to visit you after I'm done with my issues, alright?"

Aaron nodded and loosened his grip. Everyone could see that he was reluctant.

When Ian pulled him away, Aaron kept looking back at Emily.

Derek looked at Aaron and raised his eyebrows. Aaron's attitude toward Emily made Derek a little jealous.

"The engagement party is over. Thank you all for coming."

After Derek finished speaking, people said goodbye and left.

In the end, only Emily was left in the hall.

Before leaving, she straightened her dress so that she would not look too bad.
