Chapter 1 Meeting In Tragedy

Milan, Italy, 2022.

The room was cramped, stuffy and humid. Firm footsteps echoed as their owner entered the room. The owner's pair of eyes looked at a person who was tied up dangling a few meters in the air.

The curves of a grin emerged from both ends of his lips. The sound of the chasing breath of the person tied up was the only sound. The person's body drooped limply after unsuccessfully trying to break free.

"How does it feel to be near death?" A man's heavy voice bounced off the walls. His feet stopped in front of the person tied up. "Are you starting to feel desperate?"

A person a few meters above looked at the man in a black suit with a haggard look in his eyes, but snarled under his breath. A thick rope was tightly wrapped around his mouth. The man before him only displayed a cold look. He took out a lighter and lit the flame.

"What do you think would happen if someone became like this lighter?" the man asked in a mysterious tone.

The man's question provoked irritation. The person who was tied up dangling gritted his teeth. He looked up to take a deep breath, then bowed his head limply.

"If you want me dead, kill me," said the man with emphasis on his words.

The man before him raised both eyebrows, intrigued by the reaction to that answer. His grin widened even further.

"Interesting. What way do you want to be killed?"

Despite asking, the man signaled to his subordinate who was standing near the rope control point. A second later the rope binding the man loosened, dropping his body to the ground.

A groan was heard, making the man with the lighter shake his head. He approached the person to crouch down and looked up at the captive man's face.

"Speak up. Who is your cartel that paid for Ellene's murder?" the man asked without beating around the bush.

The captive man shut his mouth tightly. His stare grew even more intense. From his grin, his lips now displayed a row of teeth. Laughing with a devilish face. Without answering anything, the captive man spat at the man in front of him.

The man before the captive closed his eyes with a gasp. But his surprise only lasted a moment before interrupting the spit.

"Ah, damn..." he hissed in exasperation. "How annoying."

The man then pressed his fingernails into the captive's skin. He brought their faces closer until they were two feet apart. The lighter slowly moved next to the bound man's eyes, giving off heat.

"Do you want to die?" the man asked sharply and pressed.

"That's what you brought me here for, isn't it, Mr. Javer?"

The man with the lighter, who was called by the name Javer, raised both eyebrows. He pointed the flaming lighter at the captive man's ear while smothering his mouth. The captive man's nata glared with pain from the heat of the flame in his ear.

"I found your cartel symbol on the bullet that killed Ellene. What are you going to explain?" Javer tilted his head, watching the scene before his eyes like a fun show.

After Javer's hand was released while keeping the fire away, the captive man exclaimed, "I didn't kill Ellene! It wasn't me!"

Javer showed the bullet removed from the pocket in front of the captive man's face. There was a P symbol on the bullet. Instantly the captive man trembled even more. A line of irritation formed on his forehead.

Feeling that he had bullied the captive man enough, Javer stood up. Before turning around, he signaled his subordinates to leave immediately. While taking a leisurely step, the lighter was thrown towards the captive man.

The flames immediately spurted up as the oil was poured around the captive man. The flames quickly spread following the direction of the oil to the captive man.

Screams of heat echoed through the air. But Javer wasn't listening. He glanced at the clock on his wrist. It was about an hour until the scheduled departure to Chicago, USA.

He rushed to the airport to leave on his private jet. It only took twenty minutes for his car to reach the private jet parking lot. .

On the way, the male bodyguard approached him and handed him a lit tablet screen.

"Mr. Javer, I just got information that the Guvero Clan made an attack on La Deric'O club and took a woman hostage who fought them."

Javer looked at the tablet screen. There was a video playing showing a group of violent prawns shuffling objects and several people.

One of the women resisted, but was eventually captured. Then the video showed a picture of the woman with her hands tied and her mouth gagged.

"Come. We are waiting for you." Javer read the message on the screen. He smiled wryly as he shook his head. "Accept the challenge. Direct some of the other guards at Chicago headquarters to secure the club. We go to La Deric'O nightclub."

The bodyguard man bowed his head. "Yes, Mr. Boss!"

The trip from Italy to Chicago took almost a day. Javer and his bodyguards headed to a nightclub called La Deric'O. As soon as he arrived at the nightclub, the atmosphere was chaotic inside the club.

A number of people were gathered in one spot tied to a rope. Only one woman was separated from a number of other people.

"Hey, don't you know I've been holding back hunger since yesterday?" The woman said sarcastically to one of the clan members.

Javer watched the woman during the conversation with one of the Guvero Clan members. His gaze was probing, and he didn't even look away as the woman turned her head towards him.

"You... you came here to take responsibility for this embarrassing incident, right?" The woman asked Javer without a hint of trepidation.

Javer's eyebrows rose. Without caring about the woman, Javer turned his gaze to the most prominent man-the Guvero Clan chief.

"Let them go. What business do you have with me?"

The clan chief laughed. "Hey, Javer! I knew you'd come here. We certainly have business. I wonder if your sharp card sense is still there?"

Javer's breath came out. "Go away. Don't say nonsense."

"Are you afraid?" the Clan Leader asked. "If you win four rounds, I'll give you the Moretto Clan's transaction history list. You're after that, right?"

Javer hissed and gritted his teeth. "Asshole. What if I lose?"

"Oh, apparently you can predict your defeat. Of course everyone here will die. Including this nightclub, I'll burn it down."

The clan leader smirked as he saw the reaction to the sharpness in Javer's eyes. He could already tell what Javer was going to do. But when they wanted to get ready to hold the gambling, a woman's voice rang out.

"Hey! If you want, I can help you."

Javer turned his head. The voice belonged to the woman who had complained about being hungry earlier.

"I'll help you win that. Isn't this nightclub one of your most valuable businesses?"

Javer honestly didn't know why the woman knew that. No one knew the nightclub business belonged to him other than rival mafia clans and relations.

Panic drove Javer to approach the woman. His gaze was sharp and threatening.

"You know about what?"

The woman deliberately raised her head, smirking.

"I seem to know a lot. Don't you also need to feel careful that not many people know about your secret business?"

Javer's teeth chattered. He growled, making her chuckle. Finally Javer signaled to one of his bodyguards to cut the rope. But the clan leader was about to forbid it, but at that moment Javer drew his gun.

Simultaneously all the members of the Guvero Clan, the enemy clan, pulled out their respective pistols and the sound of the trigger being activated could be heard.

The woman was somewhat taken aback by the sight of the gun being pointed at each other in front of her. Luckily, the clan leader ordered his members to lower their weapons. The woman's leash was released by Javer's three bodyguards. Once released, a sigh of relief escaped her.

"Ah, finally free!" Instead of feeling daunted, the woman just stretched her muscles casually.

Javer was still pointing the pustol at the Guvero Clan chief. Without looking at the woman beside him, he asked, "What's your name?"

The woman raised both eyebrows. "My name? What for?"

"What's your name?!" Javer's tone rose, snapping to the woman's surprise.

"Temperamental man," the woman grumbled, commenting softly, but still audible to Javer. "My name is Vica. Vica Almira! Satisfied?"

Chapter 2 A Threatening Message First Mission

"Position two-one. La Deric'O is a club owned by Javer that is often used as a drug dealership. All agents stay in position, watch the target, don't let your guard down.

"Vica, get his attention as hard as you can. The other agents will go in to attack the club. Create a ruckus that could cause inconvenience. Do as planned. Do you all understand?"

While looking at Javer who was preparing with the cards in his hand, Vica smiled. Not at Javer, but in response to the voice in the earpiece that was plugged into his ear.

Vica noticed that one of the men standing not far from her made a winking gesture and clapped his hands twice near his ears. His gesture was pretending to catch a mosquito, while answering the call on his earpiece.

Neither Javer nor any of the Guvero cartel members realized that Vica and the other men were police agents.

They were all trying to pull off a disguise.

"How much do you want to bet?"

Vica turned her attention back to Javer after hearing the man's voice. The cards were already in Javer's hand.

"Oh, that's right. I brought the money for the bet now," he said then gave the code to one of the bodyguard men.

Soon three suitcases were brought to Vica. One of them was taken by Vica and placed on the table. The other two suitcases were then placed on the table. The suitcases were opened one by one until they clicked.

"Five billion dollars," Vifa said after opening all three suitcases, moving back and watching Javer closely.

Javer didn't react with surprise. But his gaze looked dubiously at Vica's money.

"Can you be sure you're risking that much?" Javer asked, then turned to look at Vica. "They're not fake money, are they?"

Vica frowned. "Why the doubt? Why is all this just fake money? Are you doubting my wealth?"

"I don't even care who you are," Javer replied as he shrugged his shoulders indifferently.

On the other hand, almost all the other cartel men were staring in amazement at the amount of money in the three suitcases. When the clan leader was about to touch the money, Vica brushed him off roughly. Vica's boldness immediately drew surprised looks from the cartel leader's bodyguards.

"You dare me?" the cartel chief said, looking fiercely at Vica.

"You can't touch this because it's not yours," Vica said without hesitation.

Just as the cartel chief was about to move forward towards Vica, the sound of bullets being activated came from behind Vica. As soon as she turned around, Vica's eyebrows shot up as she saw Javer pointing a gun at the cartel leader.

Javer's gaze was menacing. Instantly, the head of the enemy cartel canceled his intention to forcefully attack Vica. He retreated back to his seat.

Vica smiled sweetly at Javer. "Thank you, sir," she replied somewhat mockingly in her last call to Javer.

Javer put his gun back down. His face showed absolutely no emotion, or interest whatsoever. Vica's words received no response. Javer repeated the motion of shuffling the cards.

Not getting an answer to the question about money, Vica snorted in disgust. Vica lowered his body again. Meanwhile, Javer began to place one card after another in front of the clan chief and Vica. After dealing a number of cards in front of himself and Vica, Javer laid out the remaining stack of cards.

"You go first," Javer ordered Vica.

The clan leader frowned in disapproval. "Why-"

"I don't take no for an answer." Javer gave the Guvero Clan elder a cold stare. "If you're afraid, then back off and stay away from this club."

Of course, the Guvero Clan leader did not want to comply. As Javer spoke his threat, Vica noticed the sharpness of the frown lines on the man's forehead. A smile formed on Vica's face.

"Position three-two. Ready your weapons as planned."

Vica looked at the opponent in front of him with a smirk and a probing gaze. One card was placed on the table as a first step. He did not look at all intimidated by his opponent, a Guvero Clan chief.

"You can't win," said the Guvero Clan chief after laying down a counterattack card.

Vica's sardonic smile was etched. "You took out the king card at the beginning. It was a very hasty and very predictable move."

In his seat, Javer who was sitting with one foot on top of the other raised both eyebrows. Vica's words caught his attention a little. The more he paid attention to Vica's movements, which seemed detailed and careful, but still looked relaxed.

"Who exactly is this woman?" thought Javer as he watched Vica.

"In a matter of ten seconds, everything moves from the original point to the designated location."

Vica pretended to rub the back of one ear, where her earpiece was placed. The voice was an order from someone he had appointed as the team coordinator. Vica cleared his throat briefly, signaling his understanding of the order.

It was his team's code of agreement.

"...nine, eight, seven..."

Vica continued the game calmly. Meanwhile, Javer began to feel something was off. From the back came the faint screech of a female male fan. Javer tried to maintain his focus on Vica's game. But his concentration was interrupted by the screech.

"Damn it. Why are they screaming?!" Javer was finally voiceless, rising up.

Vica and the Guvero Clan leader's attention was diverted. Javer's jaw hardened looking outside.

"Those people! We're going to save them, why can't they shut up?!"

Javer had just stood up from his seat. But coincidentally, the voice from Vica's earpiece was heard.

"...two, one, DO IT NOW!"

A second after that, the sound of bullets being fired rang out. The atmosphere turned chaotic. Javer's body jerked back as he covered his ears as he heard the many bullets being fired.

In total, there were probably more than five pistols.

The sound of plates being activated could be heard from inside this room. Javer and Vica simultaneously turned their heads towards several Guvero Clan bodyguards who already had guns in their hands. Suddenly, Javer's bodyguards reacted in the same way: activating the triggers and firing back at their opponents.

Javer was wide-eyed. Only his trusted bodyguard, Fed, hadn't pulled the trigger yet, but was already spreading his arms to protect Javer.

"What's going on?!" shouted the Guvero Clan leader. "You want to frame us?!"

"They're deliberately planning to attack us!"

"Yes! They're setting us up!"

Javer gritted his teeth when he heard the Guvero Clan members' exclamation after being provoked by the chief. But before Javer could say anything, someone appeared from the doorway. He stumbled in as if carrying some very bad news.

"Lord Javer! There's been an attack in the downstairs area!"

Everyone in the room, with the exception of Vica, had a look of incomprehension on their faces. The most incomprehensible was Javer. Unfortunately, there was no time for silence.

"We didn't attack you," Javer said to the Guvero Clan members. "Or did you bring an army?!"

"You think we're all losers?!" the Guvero Clan leader retorted without lowering the gun from either hand. His jaw hardened until lines of veins formed. "I will not spare you!"

Javer took the pistol from inside his coat pocket. A pull of the trigger instantly launched a bullet at a Guvero Clan bodyguard. Suddenly, it startled the lwan clan.

"You attacked us?!"

Seconds after that, fighting broke out. The atmosphere turned chaotic. Javer's bodyguard men ran straight at the Guvero Clan members after they advanced first. Meanwhile, the sound of gunfire from outside continued to emerge.

Vica took advantage of everyone being caught off guard to quickly place an artificial sand ball in the corner of the room. She quickly slipped between the quarreling men, but one of the Guvero Clan members intercepted her.

"You're one of them, aren't you?"

Vica raised both eyebrows. No need to fight back, Vica's male bodyguard-who was also a police agent-had already stood behind the Guvero Clan member to elbow him hard in the nape of the neck. The bodyguard hurriedly pulled Vica's hand away, followed by two other bodyguards who were secret agents as well.

"Check. How's the plan going?"

With an arch of a sniff in between gasps of alarm at the chaotic atmosphere around her, Vica replied, "Mission one was successful, Chief. The room will be blown up soon."

Chapter 3 Meeting the Suspected Murderer

The sound of three shots fired into the sky broke the silence of the night. In the courtyard of a large mansion, Javer stood with his gun raised in the air.

He had been waiting for almost twenty minutes. His eyes darted to one of the windows on the second floor that was covered by a large curtain. There was a silhouette of a person behind the curtain.

With his mouth clenched in anger, Javer pointed the gun at the second floor window, then pulled the trigger to fire three rounds until the sound of shattering glass was deafening.

"Do I need to order the other boys to search the mansion, Mr. Javer?"

With his hand still holding the gun aimed at the glass of the second floor window, Javer shook his head.

"Don't do anything until I give the order. Tell the others to stay in their positions."

Fed, Javer's trusted personal aide, nodded obediently. Although furious, Fed realized that he could not go against Javer's orders.

Once again Javer pulled the trigger to fire three rounds.

The window glass was already shattered. Only a moment later, the alumynium entrance door opened as the long sound of the door opening code rang out.

A tall, well-built man appeared when the door was fully opened. around him were five male guards. A smile curved across the man's face.

"What a pleasant greeting," the man said to Javer with a low, flat laugh.

Javer lowered the pustol. His eyes were cold as he looked at the man who was now walking toward him. Both of the man's hands were stuffed into his pants pockets.

Javer had placed the pistol beside his body, waiting until the man then stood two steps away from him.

"That's quite an interesting way of greeting you, Jack," Javer said expressionlessly. "You did it, didn't you?"

Jack's eyebrows furrowed. "Did... what? Which one?"

Javer laughed dismissively. "Asshole. That pssir bomb. You put it there, right?"

"Hey," Jack paused, turning his face to look at Javer more closely, "shouldn't you be greeting me, huh? Why isn't there any friendliness on your face?"

"I didn't come here to extend hospitality to you," Javer insisted.

"Oh, really?" Jack's eyebrows shot up. "Yes... considering you came here after killing a leading member of the Perdossic Cartel. You probably want something here. Don't you think?"

Javer smiled. "You understand me best. Consider it a gift from me to your cartel. Now, tell me, do you want the same fate as the leader of one of the relations of the Perdossic Cartel?"

Jack half bowed his head, exhaling harshly. "Before answering, let me ask you, are you satisfied after taking out an important person in the Perdossic Cartel?"

Both of Javer's eyebrows furrowed. "Doesn't the Perdossic Cartel have a wide network? Oh, I heard that now your cocaine business has penetrated to the Mexican Cartel network?"

Jack smiled wryly. "That's right, but it's a pity to lose one important person who is a link between networks. Ah... what if I take your business territory? Let's just say you'll need to compensate your network of contacts."

"What a loser you are," Javer commented with a chuckle. "It's no surprise."

Jack let out a sardonic laugh. The man in front of him had never changed. His face was cold, his tone casual, but his words were always threatening. Jack knew that Javer had come to Chicago from Italy for something.

Jack also knew that Javer would come to his house after his nightclub bombing reception.

Jack watched Javer who didn't seem fazed. Images flashed through Jack's head, imagining Javer's hands now being used to kill an important leader of the cocaine business.

A flurry of anger erupted in Jack's chest. But Jack kept the curve of his smile relaxed.

"You're not afraid at all, huh. What do you want?" Jack asked.

"Your responsibility for Ellene's death," Javer said firmly in a whisper in Jack's ear. "And the bomb incident at the nightclub. I know it was you."

Hearing Ellene's name made Jack raise both eyebrows. Jack had just remembered that Ellene, Javer's fiancée and the woman he loved most, was killed by a mysterious man about two weeks ago. Now Jack understood why Javer had traveled to Chicago, even approaching his mansion.

Apparently it wasn't just to warn him of a bombing attempt at a nightclub, there was something else: Ellene.

"I heard about Ellene's death, I-"

Javer immediately gripped Jack's shirt collar tightly with one hand, while his other hand pointed the gun at Jack's temple. Javer's movement provoked the pistols held by Jack's bodyguards to be pointed at Javer. The two bodyguards around Javer also pointed their guns at Jack's five subordinates.

Jack's facial expression was stunned at the sound of the trigger being activated, but there was no fear in his gaze. Shaking his head and smirking, Jack chuckled.

"You know you can't mess with me," Javer said to Jack, glaring.

"I know, that's why I want to play with you," Jack replied with a big grin on his face.

Javer tightened his grip on Jack's shirt collar. "You killed Ellene, right?"

Jack was suddenly nailed to the spot. A frown formed in the crease of his ksnjng. During his silence, Jack had no idea what to answer. Javer's question was completely unexpected.

"Answer, asshole!" Javer snapped right in Jack's face.

"Me? Why me?" asked Jack with an uncomprehending look.

"Shit. You want to dodge?"

"When did I dodge? I'm questioning your weird question," Jack replied. "You think I killed him?"

Javer grinned, the bag laughing maniacally. The grip on Jack's shirt collar gradually loosened, but the gun was still pointed at Jack's temple.

With a glare that didn't move from Jack, the gun moved slowly to a male guard and pulled the trigger, firing a bullet through the chest.

The sudden shooting distracted the four other guards. Deftly, the two male bodyguards near Javer pulled the triggers of their respective pistoms and fired bullets at the rest of Jack's bodyguards. The last male bodyguard was knocked down by Javer until there were no bidyguard men left.

Jack was wide-eyed, his breath caught in his throat as he watched the five bodyguards fall. The blood that was splattered around made Jack gulp his saliva painfully. Instantly his gaze became worried, Jack looked back at Javer who was already giving instructions to one of his bodyguard men.

"Are you crazy?!" Jack snapped at Javer. "What exactly-"

Before Jack could finish his sentence, the sound of explosions came from the side. Jack was stunned to cover his ears as he grimaced. When he turned his head, his eyes rounded in surprise to see flames raging from a building that looked abandoned a few meters away.

"Please enjoy my greeting, cousin."

Javer's words were his last before turning around, waltzing away with his two male bodyguards. Leaving Jack stunned as he watched the flames engulf the abandoned building.

The warehouse storing wine supplies and printed money ready for distribution tomorrow was on fire.
