The next morning, before sunrise. Arabel woke up before Maxime who was still sleeping soundly. The woman felt there was something strange about her. Arabel slowly began to wake up when the blanket covering half of her body was opened. She saw that the clothes she was wearing were already messy.
"Oh my God! What happened to me?" Arabel said loudly. That woke up Maxime who was still asleep.
"Maxime, what happened? Why...?"
Maxime was also surprised. The man was already slightly exposed. The buttons of his shirt were no longer fastened.
"What have we done, Arabel?" continued Maxime who turned Arabel's question around.
The bed sheets were already messed up, some of their clothes were lying scattered there. There were blood stains on the white sheets and made Arabel scream.
"Maxime, this can't be happening!" she shouted.
Maxime put his hands on his head and fell wordlessly silent. He looked straight ahead, his eyes full of regret. He thought, why do all this to Arabel who was an innocent and good girl.
***
Arabel had a headache two weeks later. She didn't come out of the house for that long either. Maxime told his employees that Arabel was sick and not working. Arabel met with Maxime for office business that might be urgent. Every time she looked at Maxime, he was silent.
"Hello, I want to see you." Through a phone call, Arabel talked to Maxime.
The innocent girl invited Maxime to meet this afternoon at an apartment where Maxime lived, which was not far from his office.
The call was cut off just like that. Maxime sent her the address of his apartment which not many people knew.
Arabel arrived there on time. She went straight into Maxime's room after he gave her access to come there.
"Hi Arabel, how are you, recovering?" Maxime got up from his seat when he saw Arabel arrive.
"I don't have much to say, I just want to straighten things out," Arabel replied, sternly.
Arabel took something out of her bag. It was a long flat object and she handed it to Maxime.
"Tespek?" Maxime laughed immediately.
"Don't mess around, what did I do to you that you bought a test? What for?" He asked again.
"You forgot what happened to us that night?" Arabel asked confidently. "Don't pretend to forget I need your responsibility."
Maxime gaped. The incident two weeks ago was recalled when he and Arabel slept together.
"Are you not okay, Arabel? What happened to you?" asked Maxime.
Arabel asked Maxime to wait, because Arabel wanted to do something in the bathroom. About ten minutes passed, Arabel came out of the bathroom. She brought the long flat object again and covered it with her palm.
"What did you want to show me, Arabel? What's in your hand?" said Maxime.
Arabel opened her palm and looked slowly. She was so shocked when the two red lines on the tespek were seen directly by Arabel's eyes.
"Maxime, I'm pregnant. ...."
Arabel immediately went limp. Maxime quickly held Arabel's body so she wouldn't fall down.
"How is this? What should I do when the test shows positive?"
Maxime shook his head slowly. The man immediately fell silent when he saw that his personal assistant was pregnant because of him.
"I have to go before your parents and hold them accountable. This is your child, Maxime, this is your flesh and blood, remember that!" Arabel explained.
"Arabel, listen to me carefully, I'm asking you to terminate your pregnancy!" I don't want to know that you're pregnant. Where do you want to put my face?" Maxime shouted frantically.
"Mr. Maxime, this is your child! You did everything, you have to take responsibility! If you don't take responsibility, I will spread this problem to everyone, so that others know that a respectable businessman did something stupid like this!" threatened Arabel.
Maxime let out a long sigh, Arabel's threat left him helpless.
Two days later, Arabel desperately went to Maxime's family home. She wanted to discuss the results of the test with Maxime's parents, and had prepared answers to the questions they would ask later. Maxime's father was named Frans, and Maxime's family was named Frans. the most respected and wealthy family in the region. Their identity was not easy, including finding their home address. Arabel painstakingly got the information from her coworkers at the office.
When Maxime heard the sound of the doorbell, he looked interested. Maxime asked. "Who comes to people's homes this early in the morning?" A little nervous.
Maxime walked from the living room to the front. However, on the way, he was stopped by a beautiful and luxurious middle-aged woman. She was Mr. Frans' wife, Mrs. Siska.
"Who arrived at our house so early this morning?" Did you ask a guest to come?" Siska asked Maxime.
"Not at all. I will direct the guests to my apartment, not here," Maxime said.
Siska asked him to open the door himself. The housemaid was in the kitchen.
Maxime returned to the living room. He was still playing a game on his cell phone.
Siska said morning greetings in a flat tone and asked who she was talking to; a woman who claimed to be Arabel answered.
That woman was Arabel. She had been standing at the door since almost half an hour ago.
"To the point, what did you come here for? This is not a place to apply for a job and please tell me directly what you want?"
Arabel swallowed her saliva. She saw how arrogant Mama Maxime was.
"I'm looking for Maxime, Mom. Is he home? I'd like to talk to you as well."
Siska folded her arms across her chest and said, "Call me ma'am. You don't know who Mrs. Siska and Mr. Frans are?"
Arabel nodded in agreement. "Yes, ma'am."
Maxime heard a little commotion outside the house. He went straight over and felt familiar with the voices.
"What's going on, Mama? Is someone looking for me?" Maxime asked. He was so surprised to see Arabel in front of him with a wrinkled face. Her gaze was fixed on Maxime.
"Arabel?"
***
Maxime told his mother that Arabel was his personal assistant at the office. Siska immediately allowed Arabel into the house, but with a limited visiting schedule. After an hour, Arabel was allowed to leave the house and return tomorrow.
"I want to talk to all members of Mr. Maxime's family, including Mrs. Siska and Mr. Frans," Arabel said with a serious face.
Maxime asked Siska to do what Arabel wanted. In the living room, they sat together. Arabel was very scared when they got together. She didn't know how to admit her pregnancy if Frans' family didn't recognize her.
"Now, say what you want to say. Don't waste our time helping a little person like you." Siska glanced Arabel up and down. She believed that Arabel was a poor woman.
"I am indeed a poor woman who came suddenly to this magnificent house, because of Maxime's request, I have something to show,"
Arabel took a deep breath. She took something out of her bag and placed it in front of Siska. A long flat object was shown to Siska.
"What is this?" Siska reached for it. She stared in surprise at the two-line tespek that Arabel had given her as a form of conversation.
Frans began to understand what he meant, as did Siska. They both looked at Maxime next to him.
"Who is this woman and what is your special relationship?" Siska said, harshly.
The atmosphere in the house was getting worse, Siska demanded answers from her son for what had happened.
"Do you know her well, Maxime?
Maxime was silent. In the end he answered and explained a little about the incident that night which was considered an accident.
Maxime said that Arabel was his coworker at the office. However, that night Maxime invited Arabel to date at a club. There things went wrong and Arabel lost her chastity for the first time.
"That means, you and this girl...."
Siska was about to get very angry. However, Frans intervened. On the one hand, Arabel did not remain silent to continue to ask for responsibility from the Frans family for what their son had done to her.
"I ask for responsibility. This is Maxime's child, this is his flesh and blood."
Siska tempered her anger. She asked Arabel to convince her that the child in Arabel's womb was really Maxime's flesh and blood.
"Prove to me that it's Maxime's child. How can I believe it? There are many women who want to marry my son, so you can make up stories that are not." Siska accused.
"I'm sorry, ma'am. I wouldn't have wasted my time doing all this if Maxime had nothing to do with me. This is his son and he did it."
The conversation became more relaxed. Frans took over the conversation. The middle-aged man asked Arabel again about her relationship with Maxime.
Arabel told the story very straightforwardly, she also admitted that the incident that night was accidental. They had been under the influence of intoxicants, causing bad things to happen. Even so, Siska did not want to give in.
"This is your fault as a woman. Why can't you take care of yourself? This is the result," Siska snapped. She was furious. She felt that her family's good name had been tarnished by this incident.
"Already, mom, don't get emotional, it will hurt." Frans nurtured his wife.
They all fell silent. Frans' family asked for half an hour to talk confidentially, they had to confer to find a decision.
Half an hour later, Siska returned with Frans. They put on a flat face and approached Arabel who was still sitting on the sofa. Arabel had been praying to get justice for her son.
"Okay. I've found a decision for this problem of yours." Siska opened the conversation again.
Maxime accepted the settlement. He just kept quiet and waited for his mom and dad's answer.
"Tomorrow you and Maxime will get married. You stay here tonight, because tomorrow is the happy day you've been waiting for."
Arabel widened her eyes. She was happy to hear Siska's answer, which she had been hoping for.
"Is Madame serious? Are you serious, sir?" asked Arabel.
Siska smiled wryly. She folded her arms across her chest, then stepped towards the window.
"You will marry my son, the only son of the wealthy Frans family. But there are conditions."
Arabel frowned. Her smile disappeared.
"What condition is that, Madame?" asked Arabel innocently.
"A marriage contract. The marriage will only last for about nine months until the child is born. Your marriage with Maxime will be dissolved after the birth of the child. You don't have to worry because I will handle all the affairs."
"Marriage should not be played with because it is sacred. Arabel firmly rejected Siska's offer.
"Don't you want to do this? You want your child to be born without a father? What if your family finds out that you got pregnant out of wedlock? They would be ashamed, and probably wouldn't recognize you as a child!" Siska replied with a sly smile.
"Siska has a point. Dad has a heart condition. What if Dad finds out? I don't want my family to know about this," Arabel thought.
"I will follow everything. But, ma'am, please don't tell my family about this," Arabel said, forced to accept that the agreement was the only option available.
Siska and Frans left together. Arabel stared at the spot in pain. It was suffocating to have her marriage used as a game by a wealthy family.
***
When the wedding day arrived, Arabel and Maxime officially became husband and wife, just like everyone else there. Frans' family held a very lavish wedding in a luxury hotel. Arabel was very happy. She was very grateful that Maxime accepted her child and that her pregnancy was not in vain. Arabel believed that this would change her life and improve her social status. Later Arabel would feel that becoming a Madame was every woman's dream. Maxime's mistress title was in sight and Arabel couldn't wait for it.
"You look very handsome today, Maxime," Arabel praised with a smile.
"Thank you." Maxime replied indifferently.
"Why aren't you excited about this wedding? Isn't all this your fault?" Arabel said. She dredged up the incident again.
"You should also realize, being a woman, you have to take good care of yourself. Understand?" Maxime replied. A small commotion ensued.
In addition, the invited guests secretly talked about Arabel, saying.
"That woman used to be Mr. Maxime's personal assistant in the office, she seems ordinary, and from a simple family. Could it be that Mr. Maxime wants to marry a woman who is not equal to him?" Frans and Arabel's family overheard the innuendos from the guests.
"If it weren't for the thought of my family's good name, I wouldn't marry you!" Maxime whispered in Arabel's ear, and she immediately replied sadly.
At the party, many people congratulated Maxime, including his ex-girlfriend. Not a few people asked about Arabel's family until they heard the sarcasm.
Some of the guests who came, telling Arabel, were surprised by the wedding that the bride's family did not attend.
The reception lasted one day, and in the evening the event ended. Arabel and Maxime were seen getting off the aisle throne and getting ready to go home to rest.
"Are you satisfied with tarnishing the good name of our family?" asked Siska harshly. There was no one around anymore, except for the wedding organizer and other event officials.
"What does that mean, Mah?" Arabel was confused.
"The guests are asking about your family and you don't know where they are? What kind of wedding is this?" Siska snapped.
Arabel was silent. She just bowed her head, because the truth was that no one in her family knew about the wedding.
"Maxime, let's go home. Our job is done and let this woman go." After pulling Maxime's hand, Siska got into the car. Arabel gave Frans a sharp look, and he didn't allow her to get into the family car. As a result, Arabel used a taxi to return to Maxime's house.
***
All of Frans' family members were still seen sitting on the living room sofa. While Frans was next to her, Siska put her hand on his head. Maxime was playing a game happily, and several other families joined in. Meanwhile, Arabel had just arrived home.
"What are you coming home for?" Frans asked.
"This is also my home, I'm officially Maxime's wife." Arabel replied.
Siska got up from her chair. Remember your promise! There is no right to my child because you are only a contract wife. You're not Maxime's anyone after your child is born, are you?"
Arabel looked down. She still believed that Siska would change her perspective after the birth. Maxime's family's hearts would surely melt when they saw the little baby.
Maxime closed his cell phone and walked towards the room. He didn't glance at Arabel, who was obviously his wife.
"Excuse me Mom, Dad, I also want to rest. We'll continue this discussion tomorrow." Arabel stepped after Maxime. However, Frans forbade her.
"Where are you going? A dirty woman like you doesn't deserve to sleep in my son's room. Stop walking!"
Arabel stopped walking. "Don't make a sad face, we won't care," Siska said, Arabel made a sad face at Frans.
"What should I do, Dad?" I also want to sleep. After all, I had the right to sleep with my husband.
"Maxime has closed the inner door, and won't let you in. Dirty woman, think of your own fate." Along with Frans, Siska smiled wickedly and entered her room.
Arabel was silent in the living room. She was curled up crying over her fate. Is this what a happy marriage looks like? Instead of becoming a mistress, Arabel had to swallow the wounds of her husband's family's mistreatment.
It wasn't long before a housemaid arrived. She directed Arabel to sleep in the maid's empty room. Arabel agreed, rather than sleeping on the sofa.
That night Arabel slept in the maid's room. She should have slept with Maxime. The first night after the wedding was painful. Arabel never imagined it would happen in her life.
Around two in the morning, Arabel woke up when she heard a knock on the door.
"Who?"
Arabel was surprised to see Maxime standing in front of her with a sharp gaze.
"Maxime? You want to invite me to sleep in your room? Thank you."
Maxime pushed Arabel onto the bed. He locked the bedroom door tightly.
"What do you want, Maxime? We're officially husband and wife, but not now you're doing that to me."
Maxime didn't respond. He continued to fulfill his lustful desires. The day finally arrived. This was their second sexual encounter.
***
The next day, Siska screamed for Maxime. She looked for the boy who was not in the room.
"Maxime, where are you Maxime?" Siska shouted.
Maxime came out of the maid's room. Siska wrinkled her forehead. "Why did you come out of the maid's room?" Siska asked.
Not long after, Arabel also came out. Siska sighed and folded her arms across her chest. She understood what had happened.
"Insolent. Arabel, come here!" Siska pleaded.
"Yes Mama, what's wrong?"
"Don't call me Mama. Call me ma'am," Siska insisted.
"Yes, ma'am."
"Okay good. Now, you clean the house. Until it's clean and smells good. You are a dirty woman and this house is dirty because of you."
Siska was satisfied, left Arabel's presence, and Arabel nodded her assent.
Arabel was served like a maid, not a mistress. She now performed all the duties of a housemaid after sleeping in the maid's room. Arabel's life was full of suffering.
Maxime only came to her if he wanted to, but he wouldn't glance at Arabel and clearly called other women in front of Arabel.
No one knew how their marriage would go, because Arabel was only contracted for nine months to be part of the Frans family, and she had to be prepared to be expelled from the Frans family and become an ordinary woman. In a way, Arabel had not told her family back home about the current troubles. Arabel felt that no one cared about her at the moment and wanted to make plans. Maxime only saw Arabel as a wife when he wanted to vent his lust.
"Who is that girl, Maxime?" asked Arabel suspiciously.
"She's the woman I've been in love with all this time!" Maxime retorted fiercely.
Maxime blatantly told Arabel about his partner. Arabel was not happy that Maxime was even in love with another woman.
"I'm still your wife, it's not appropriate for you to have a relationship with another woman when you already have a wife," Arabel said again. She cried when she saw how Maxime treated her.
"Don't let Mama, Papa know about this problem," Maxime said while pulling Arabel's hand roughly.
You must not admit that I have another mistress. Remember, you're only my contract wife." Maxime threatened.
After Maxime took away Arabel's happiness, she now had to accept the devotion that made Arabel very sick. However, she had to accept everything for the sake of the child she had.
***
Nine months later, the doorbell suddenly rang while Arabel was doing her homework. Arabel immediately opened it.
"Honey" The male guest who suddenly came immediately hugged Arabel tightly. Suddenly his arrival made Arabel surprised.
Soon Frans' family came out and saw the hug. Siska who was full of anger immediately approached Arabel followed by Maxime and Frans.
"What the hell! You poor woman!" Siska slapped Arabel hard again.
"After you tricked my son into that relationship, now you're having an affair with another man, and openly in my house! What do you mean, you're not just a dirty woman, you're a cheap woman!" Siska insulted her again with anger.
Siska thought Arabel had been having an affair with another man, betraying her son, Maxime.
"Mah, it's not what you think. I don't know who he is. I have nothing to do with him. Please believe me," Arabel explained.
"Halah! A cheap and dirty woman like you doesn't deserve to be part of the Frans family!" Siska pushed Arabel to the ground.
Arabel groaned in pain, "Please... pain...."
Bi Sumi, the housemaid immediately approached Arabel, "Madam, it looks like Miss Arabel is about to give birth,"
"You take care of it. I don't care."
Housemaid Siska was surprised.
"But if something happens to Miss Arabel, what will happen, ma'am? It's about the life of the mother and her child."
Siska didn't care. She left the task to her maid to take care of Arabel.
"Finally my plan worked to accuse Arabel of having an affair with another man. I did that because it was to cover up my relationship with another woman. There is no more reason to immediately divorce Arabel and marry Maura!" Maxime thought. As it turned out, Maxime was behind the riot.
Bi Sumi then carried Arabel to the car garage. The maid asked the driver for help, to take Arabel to the hospital.
Arriving at the hospital, the driver immediately called the officer to bring a gurney. Arabel was immediately put on the gurney and pushed into the labor room.
"The patient's family please wait outside. Let us handle the birth process."
The maid and driver waited faithfully. They sat on chairs and were very worried. On the one hand, they still couldn't understand Siska's reaction. A mother should not have the heart to see her daughter-in-law in pain about to give birth. After all, Arabel's child was her biological grandchild.
The baby's cry broke the worry of the maid and driver. They were relieved to hear the sound. The long-awaited baby had been born into the world.
***
In the evening, Arabel's hospital room had guests. It turned out to be Siska and Frans. They came with an arrogant attitude, not like visiting their grandchildren.
"Where's that man you're having an affair with? Why didn't he accompany the delivery?" Siska quipped with her haughty face.
"What I'm waiting for is the arrival of my husband, Maxime. Where is he? Why didn't he come to see his son?" asked Arabel in confusion.
"What are you looking for my son for? A cheap and dirty woman like you doesn't deserve to call my son husband. Is it possible that this child is the result of your affair with that man?" Siksa accused again, making Arabel furious. However, she had to endure it all.
"Please sign this." Frans handed a piece of paper to Arabel.
