Rosetta's POV
"Come out here now and let me end you painlessly!!" Garnacho's words kept ringing in my head. I could not get it off my mind, no matter how hard I tried to. I was lost in a world that I once called mine.
The streets of Milan were darker than usual. The bright neon lights weren't in sight and it was probably better that way since there's a bounty on my head. I'd been hiding for days now, almost five days, eating leftovers and begging like my family wasn't stinkingly rich. Brought up and nutured in the family that owned the biggest Mafia , I never lacked anything, not even the most expensive of things. They were all like cheap goods to me.
I hid in close to the dumpster, trying to gather my thoughts and make a plan for myself. My head was hurting and I was seeing strange visions. It felt like the whole world was closing in on me and I had no choice than to move with the flow. I could feel like slipping out of my flesh. I tried to stay strong, I forced myself to.
I stood up and heaved quick sighs, breathing in and out, getting myself ready to escape Milan and Italy. I stepped out of the dumpster only to see six tall, muscular men, standing close to the dumpster. They all surrounded me and their smirks grew as they saw me. My eyes fell on one and I saw a GPS locator in his hands and one of my clothes in the other. Only God knows how I was tracked.
The one that held the cloth sighed in relief and then smiled.
"Half a million dollars, staring at us in the face." He said and the others laughed happily.
FIVE DAYS EARLIER
"Come out here now and let me end you painlessly!!" Garnacho screamed on the other side of the door into my room. Silverback, my dog, barked at the door.
I kept pacing round my room, searching for anything that could be a weapon to fight against him. I was absolutely scared.
Ever since my father died, Garnacho, my godfather, had always taken care of me. His sudden hatred for me and his desperate want to see me dead was very scary. Being my father's favourite though I'm a bastard put me in a lot of horrible situations. This wasn't one I'd have ever thought of. Garnacho adored me, or at least, I thought he did.
"Why do you want to kill me?" I asked, fighting back the tears that threatened to spill. I was scared for myself. I'd looked for several ways to escape but there was absolutely none. The rooms were locked and there was no way I'd escape. I was breathing raggedly, scared for my life. He had been acting up ever since, it got worse months before, but this morning, it all went through the roof, like he had found validation to end me.
"You are beginning to annoy me with these questions! Come out and let me finish this up, Rosetta." Garnacho said with a loud growl.
I began desperately searching for an escape, anything that would keep me alive. I looked through the windows again and just three goons stood where I could jump.
"If I can somehow trick them that I'm somewhere else, I'll be able to escape." I mumbled to myself and almost immediately, then the reality of what stood at the gates hit me. Even if I did escape the guards at the windows, I'll never escape those at the gates.
"Don't force me to break this door open!" Garnacho shouted and he hit the door so hard with some metal that it made a very visible dent on the metallic door.
"You're a fucked up piece of shit and you deserve the worst things in the world!" I shouted angrily but it only erupted laughter from Garnacho. "You dare defy me?"
"Now, that's the stubborn bitch I know, but fighting would do you no good here." Garnacho said.
"I'd rather have my legs chopped off than fight a piece of shit like you." I responded angrily.
Garnacho hit the door again. I shivered in fear and my survival instincts kicked in.
I looked at my dog on the bed and gave it one last kiss, at least till I'd do the craziest thing ever.
"Take care, Silverback, I love you." I said, moving backwards to the door and staring at the window. I took deep breaths and stopped thinking. I need to rid myself of thoughts to take more sane actions. Only insanity could save me.
Another bang at the door, it fell open just as I ran and jumped out of the window. Surprisingly, I was about ten feet away from the three guards that stood downstairs, outside my window. I did not know how that happened and so, I took to my heels and I began running. I could feel my legs touching my necks. I ran so fast and surprisingly, I was faster than every single one of them.
There was a secret passage I never thought of but my father had taken me through it once when my step mom was planning on beating the daylight out of me. I hurriedly took it and I avoided more guards.
Thankfully, none of them could keep up. I got out into a very crowded area of Milan but I didn't stop running, I was at it till I felt a little safe and I stayed hidden. Never did I know I could run so fast, I was never good at it but adrenaline would do anything to a person.
PRESENT TIME.
"Can I have a taste of this one?" One asked, licking his lips in a disgusting and unlawful manner.
"I say we all do." Another said. "He didn't say dead or alive."
They all laughed while I was in agony, I needed to escape.
"I'll rather have myself killed than have any of you prick heads touch me." I said clenching my teeth and it seemed to get them more angry as they began closing in on me. I tried escaping but unlike the last time, I wasn't so lucky.
They tossed me amongst themselves, slapping me as they did and just when one of them tore my shirt, I heard a voice. My heart skipped a beat at the sound of the voice. I'm literally about to die, but my heart was skipping beats for a voice.
"That's no way to treat a lady." He said. I was able to get a glance at him and he was dangerously handsome! Tall, well chiseled chin, not skinny but not too built also, ocean eyes, rudy dark hair, he was perfect!
I smiled at the beautiful sight, even if it's the last I see, it's worth it.
"And who the heck are you?" The one with my cloth asked.
"Pardon me. I'm Nicholas and I ask that you deliver the lady into my hands." He said calmly and they laughed. Funny enough, he joined in the laughter and then his demeanor changed. I could barely see since my face was already bruised.
"Don't make me ask again!" Nicholas said coldly and I shivered.
"Or what?" One of the thugs asked and the next thing was chaos all around.
The thug that held me pushed me against the wall and I hit my head, I fell to the ground and just before I went unconscious, I saw him, throwing them around and shooting them.
Was I just saved by this handsome devil? My knight in shining armor.
Nicholas' POV
"Nicholas, why not just make me happy and just show her a little affection before I lose my mind over this?" My mom, Sandra asked in a very dramatic manner. She has always been dramatic and I'd do anything for her, at least, what I feel like I should do.
"Mom, don't sweat it." I said. "I'll do whatever my heart chooses and right now, it's quite silent about the subject matter."
"Is it until I die before you choose to do the right thing?" She asked, faking tears. This is definitely not the first and this would not be the last. "You want me to die without seeing you get married." She cried, coughing dramatically like she was choking on her own tears.
Already used to her antics, I scoffed and then chuckled. I served myself a cup of juice and rested back into the chair.
"You'll be fine mom and you still have more than thirty years before you. I'm sure I'd have gotten married by then." I waved her off.
My mom wiped her tears, seeing that I was absolutely not bothered by her fake tears. She left the living room and just as I was about to leave, Yvonne, my mother's love and the one she wants as mine walked in. I sighed deeply and rested back into the chair.
"Hey." Yvonne said, with her perfectly pitched thin voice.
"Hey, how are you?" I asked and she smiled.
"I'm fine." She replied. Yvonne and I have gone back and forth, getting into it every now and then but it was never really anything substantial to me and I made sure she knew it. For a while, I did it for sex but I realized how it'd hurt her more, seeing that she was already developing feelings and I had to stop. It's not gentlemanly to do that to a lady. "You were about going upstairs, mind if I accompany you?"
"No... no, let's talk here." I said, pouring myself another glass of juice. "Is there anything you want to talk about?"
"Yeah, I was hoping we could go out sometime when you're less busy, maybe eat and see a movie or something, what do you think?" She asked. I'd rejected her offer countless times but she wasn't giving up. With Sandra being her support, I doubt she would stop even in years to come.
I was thinking of a way to reply without getting her feelings hurt when Duncan walked in. I looked at him and the bro code kicked in immediately .
"Good afternoon, boss." Duncan said with a slight bow. Duncan is my wingman. I've led the Dark Haven Mafia for more than three years since my father died. Being the only son and child, I had to step up to take the mantle.
"Afternoon Duncan, what's it?" I asked, sipping the juice in the cup.
"Well, it's about the Dark Haven and it'll be better discussed in private." Duncan said and I nodded.
I turned to look at the already disappointed Yvonne who stood close to my chair with her arms crossed.
"Erm.... duty calls." I said, tutting. "How about we reschedule that to some other day?"
I hated the ray of light that blossomed in her eyes as I spoke the last sentence.
"Sure. I'll figure it out." She said and I nodded, leaving hurriedly with Duncan.
Yvonne treats countless people like shit and now she's acting like she's so innocent, that's one thing that repels me from her.
"Was that just a lie you made up or is something really wrong?" I asked Duncan as we walked into a very large room which was the Dark Haven's meet point.
I sat down and relaxed myself.
"I'm afraid something's up." Duncan's tone was tensed.
"What is it?" My eyes shot up and Duncan took a deep sigh.
"We might have just found the location of the Blue Sky and there's a possible meet up that's suspected to happen tonight between them and another cartel."
"Who's the source? How reliable is it?" I asked, closing my eyes for a bit.
"Ralph's laptop." Duncan explained. "He finally got to hack into some stuff and was able to decode their language."
"That's brilliant." I nodded, knowing how good Ralph is. "We've been chasing these bastards and tonight, we finally get them." I smirked.
The Blue Sky is the biggest Mafia in all of Italy. They ran my father out of business though he made horrible decisions. They also had him killed but the most annoying thing of it all is that their identities were always unknown to me and it annoyed me more. Having dedicated the last three years of my life to rebuilding the Mafia and also finding them, this was the closest I'd ever gotten and who knows if I'll ever get that close again.
"So, what do we do, boss?" Duncan asked.
"What time is their supposed meeting?"
"Around midnight..."
"Get the boys ready, we'll leave at midnight, I do not want them to feel a but suspicious until we've rounded them up." I said and Duncan nodded.
We discussed more Mafia related matters and I made him leave. I stayed in there to avoid Yvonne or Sandra, can't deal with either of them.
***
Plans horribly failed as I had to leave the mansion an hour to midnight. I left the consulting room to get a plate of steak when I met with Yvonne and my mom. Had to escape them and that was the only possible way out. Yvonne wasn't the problem, my mom always is.
We drove through the city of Milan. I always enjoyed late night drives but I'd rather be in my room in the manor and have my mom tied up somewhere.
We had gotten to a part of Milan and I could hear strange noises. Like someone was being bullied. The voice of the person shouting draw me more to the area.
"Stop!" I ordered and Duncan stopped immediately.
"Anything the matter boss?" He asked, looking concerned.
"The Blue Sky is just a few blocks away." Sophie, Duncan's girlfriend said but I ignored it.
"There's someone that needs help." I said, opening the door to see things for myself.
"But... the bastards are just few blocks away and we should really get to them." Duncan fought.
"You said midnight, there's enough time till then." I said in a dismissive tone. He didn't pursue the matter any further.
I walked towards the direction of the noise I heard. On getting there, I saw the most attractive female ever. Every part of my body and even my soul was attracted to this insanely beautiful lady that was standing strong in the midst of several men. I wanted to act immediately but I stayed rooted to the spot and I watched her fight them back and she just looked more beautiful. I saw blood spill from her mouth and anger built up in me.
"That's no way to treat a lady." I said and the assailants all turned to look at me. I smiled in a cold and dry manner.
"And who the heck are you?" One of them asked.
"Pardon me. I'm Nicholas and I ask that you deliver the lady into my hands." I responded and they laughed. They laughed so loud that it made me angry to my bones. Duncan and the others got close and I raised my hand to prevent them from interfering.
"Don't make me ask again!" I said coldly, reaching for my Glock.
"Or what?" Another asked and I let all hell loose on them. I snapped necks and shot heads until I was left with the last who seemed to be their leader. He had already knocked the pretty lady unconscious and that infuriated me the more.
"You should have never dared me." I said, walking towards him whilst he shivered fearfully. Every step I took was a step death moved close. He vibrated fearfully and released weird sounds that I enjoyed for a while. I smirked and gave him a quick death.
I bent over to look at the lady and she looked peacefully asleep but she had blood flowing out of her head. She must have been badly injured. I carried her from the ground. Duncan tried to take her from me but I couldn't let him.
"What's going on boss?" Duncan asked.
"I'm taking her to the manor to treat her. She would be my guest." I said.
"We can't take her to the manor.... We don't even know her." Duncan said and then changed it to a question after seeing my reaction. "Or can we?"
"We can do whatever I say we can." I said, before turning to look at Sophie. "Take her to the manor and have the doctor treat her."
Sophie bowed as a response and I nodded.
"With all due respect, boss, why are we taking her home?" Duncan asked.
"She stole my heart and I need to get it back." I responded.
Nicholas' POV
"Why in everything holy names' did you bring a filthy person into my fucking manor?" My mom yelled, barely letting me into my own manor.
The planned attack never happened because somehow and one way or the other, the Blue Sky never showed up. We were there for almost two hours but my mind was only on one thing, the lady back at the manor. I wanted to run back home so bad that I called off the hit an hour into the midnight.
"Not like they were ever going to show up. We got scammed." Duncan said and I scoffed. We got back in the car and I took the wheels this time. I drove so fast that the other cars could barely keep up. Driving a Bugatti Chiron gives me all the speed I need on the streets of Milan.
"Answer me, Nicholas!" My mom yelled, drawing me back into reality.
"She is not filthy and this is my manor!" I responded, making straight for the doctor's room. I had to see how our pretty little lady was doing. My mom was behind me, walking and nagging as I made for the doctor's room. I shut her voice out of my head, I'd learnt to do that over the years and it keeps proving useful.
I knocked the door but opened it before I could get an answer, it was like I had to see her to breathe properly. I shut the door behind me before my mom could get close.
"Sir." Dr. Matilda greeted with a slight bow as I walked in.
"How is she?" I asked impatiently. I was losing composure over someone I've never even had a conversation with and it annoyed me.
"It's pretty bad but she's going to make it." She said and I heaved a sigh of relief.
"Why am I sensing a but?" I asked and Matilda sighed again.
"But she might spend quite a while on that bed because the injury to her head seems fatal." Matilda said.
I walked closer to the sleeping beauty and I bent over to take a deep sniff. She smelt like a mix of vanilla and chocolate and I had to fight myself from taking a lick of her.
"She's not your regular person. She is unique." I said.
"She's also not affiliated to the family. " Matilda said and I nodded with a smirk.
"Even makes her more intriguing." I said and I had my seat close to the bed. I took in her facial features in my head countless times that I could draw her off head but everytime I took my eyes off and back at her, there'd be a pretty new detail I'd find. I found myself taking deep breaths so I could master her deep breaths.
I left the room minutes later for Dr. Matilda to examine her properly and to also sort out some issues with the Mafia and the failed attempt.
I was on my way to the consulting room when my mom bumped into me. She was on her way to her room from the kitchen and this was totally unplanned.
I should have just waited more seconds!
"Now, tell me you're taking that thing back to wherever you found her." Sandra said.
"Mom, you really make it hard to do anything you want." I groaned. "Why can't we just want the same thing for once?"
"How do you think it'll sound when it is made public that Nicholas Hills, the Don of the Dark Haven has taken a stranger to his manor?" She asked. "You know why we never take strangers!"
"You know I don't give a single fuck about what people think." I responded with a frown. My mom was about to begin her dramatic scenes and I was seeing the fake tears form already.
"Mom, stop that shit." I chastised. "Don't cry those fake things. Save them for when I finally do something you like."
"And I'm guessing that thing would be throwing Yvonne to dogs?" She asked sarcastically.
"That doesn't sound like a terrible thing." I said with a smirk. Her expression changed almost immediately and I left her presence to avoid any more talks. She said other things but I shut them out as usual.
"Go to bed mom." I urged and went out of her sight.
***
I felt something cold on my neck and I slightly opened my eyes to see the sleeping lady now in front of me with a scalpel on my neck.
"Who the fuck are you?" She asked and I scoffed.
"I take a nap and wake up to you trying to kill me?" I asked.
"Don't dare me and answer my question or I'll litter the floor with your blood." She said and I shrugged.
"Is this the thank you for saving your life?" I asked and she looked confused.
"Where am I and who are you?" She asked and I slowly moved the scalpel from my neck. She pressed it back into my neck and I let her be. I like them stubborn.
"You're at the Hills Manor and I am Nicholas Hills." I responded with a smirk.
"What happened and why am I here?" She asked.
"How about we go question for question?" I asked and before she could reply, I asked my own question. "What is your name and why were you out in the streets tonight?"
Her facial expression was blank. She looked very confused and her heartbeat slightly increased as she racked her brain for the answers. She looked at me with more confusion and her brows furrowed into a frown. It was cute that I could hear the little thumps her heart was making. The room was that silent.
"You can't remember anything, can you?" I asked and she pressed the knife back at my neck. I raised my hand in a mock surrender and smiled. "Woah woah, please don't kill me."
"Answer my question and tell me what I was doing." She said.
"You were dancing on a pole." I said and she looked even more confused and I laughed at the innocent confusion on her face.
"You think this is a fucking joke?" She pressed the scalpel further and drew blood. It hurt a little but I didn't care as long as she could stay that close to me. There was this look of compassion and fear that crossed her face immediately she saw my blood and it made me scoff inside.
"You were being attacked and I waltzed in to save you." I explained. She nodded her head as if to ask for more details and I was delighted to help. "They were about six, tall..."
She seemed to understand what I was saying.
"You're the breathtakingly gorgeous menace to the society that saved me."
I chuckled at her compliment which seemed to have come when she wasn't even listening to herself.
All of a sudden, she fell to the ground and she began screaming loudly. It had me scared. I could feel her pain dig round the room.
That switched up real fast.
