Chapter 1 The Death Of Eric

At the hospital

A twenty-year-old girl, with long flowing hair, was standing in front of the operating room. She was comforting her mother. "Mom, calm down. Dad will be fine."

The mother's shoulders kept trembling as she cried. She looked at her daughter, the only child present at the moment.

She kept shaking her head and said, "I don't know where your two brothers went. Something so terrible happened, yet they are nowhere to be found. They don't care for their father at all."

Sherry Shao, the girl, stared at the operating room. Her eyes were red, and she was on the verge of collapsing.

It was supposed to be her birthday party today until she received a letter. Her father, who always loved her so much, got sick with a heart disease. All of a sudden, it was like her world crumbled down.

The woman turned to look at Sherry Shao and asked, "Sherry, what did the letter say? Why did your father become like this after reading the letter?"

"Mom, I didn't see the content either. Everything became chaotic when Dad fell down. Maybe some guests took the letter away."

Sherry Shao helped her mother, Macey Ni, walk to the bench and they sat down. Macey Ni was still in a daze, her head spun wondering what on earth could cause her husband to collapse like that.

She wiped her tear-streaked face with a tissue and said, "Sherry, you must find out what happened or your father might die with a heart full of regrets."

The only thing Sherry Shao could think about was for her father to survive this tragedy.

At the airport

Lyman Huangpu exited with his suitcase, followed by three tall men. Galen Wan, one of the three men, walked to him with his hands in his pockets.

He hesitated for a while before he asked, "Sir, are we going to the hospital now? Or should we go after two days?"

His words made Lyman Huangpu smile. He asked, "Why are you in such a hurry? I haven't heard the good news from the Shao family yet. I won't show up like this. I will only show up when they're fighting for the family properties."

Galen Wan smiled at his answer. He hadn't played such an interesting game for a while now.

Lyman Huangpu looked down at the platinum watch on his wrist, then gave orders to the men. "Well, I have to go somewhere. You three head on to the villa first. I've asked Rosaline to arrange everything. I'll be back by tomorrow."

Galen Wan nodded and walked towards the two men behind him. Lyman Huangpu then strode out of the airport. He knew in his heart that there was only one thing he needed to do now.

After exiting the airport, Lyman Huangpu got into a taxi and fastened his seat belt.

The driver turned around only to find out that he was wearing designer clothes. He asked curiously, "Sir, where are you going?"

Lyman took out a bill from his wallet and gave it to the driver, telling him the address.

The driver could not hide his surprise at his words. The address that he gave was a newly established area filled with villas. No wonder the man was generous.

The driver immediately started the engine and began driving. Lyman Huangpu finally came back after so many years. Now, he could take everything back from Eric Shao.

After forty minutes, the driver stopped the car in front of a villa. He turned around to look at Lyman Huangpu sitting in the back seat.

Seeing that he had fallen asleep, the driver reached out and gently nudged his arm. "Sir, we have arrived. Please wake up."

Lyman Huangpu slowly woke up and opened his eyes. He saw the familiar house in front of him and unfastened his seat belt before going out of the car.

After that, the driver immediately drove away. The villa looked like it was newly built, but it felt off. It was said that someone died there so the place felt ominous.

Lyman Huangpu held his breath as he reached out to press the doorbell. He couldn't calm down. It felt like his heart was suspended in the air.

An old woman opened the front door. When she saw the familiar face, her eyes were instantly filled with tears. She looked at him and cried hard.

She held Lyman Huangpu tightly and wailed, "Lyman, you're finally back. I have been waiting for you to go home for so long."

The sight of her made him reluctant to let go. He said, "Rosaline, we haven't seen each other for many years. I was really worried that you wouldn't recognize me."

Rosaline was stunned. She stopped hugging him and pulled his hand instead to lead him into the villa. Looking around, she said, "Lyman, look at this place. It's designed just like the way it was when your parents were still alive. Do you like it?"

He walked into the villa to confirm what she said. Looking at the familiar home in front of him, he clearly knew what he should do for his parents.

He held her arm tightly. In a serious voice, he said, "Rosaline, you can stay here and wait for Inna to come back."

When she heard him mentioning Inna, a sad look marred her features. "Lyman, do you really think we can find her? She was only three years old at that time, and she's still missing until now."

Holding Rosaline's hand, he said, "Don't worry. I have sent someone to look for Inna, so there should be news about her soon. I'm back and I want the whole family to be complete. The Shao family will pay for everything they did in the past."

Rosaline smiled in relief. As long as the family would be able to reunite, she wouldn't mind waiting more. It would be worth it.

Howell Shao returned home at seven o'clock in the evening and he then rushed to the hospital. When he walked out of the elevator, he saw his mother and sister waiting outside the operating room.

"Mom, what's wrong with Dad?"

Macey Ni stood up at once and slapped him. She scolded, "How dare you show up this late?! A few hours have passed already."

No matter how hard she hit him, Howell Shao didn't fight back. He quietly accepted her complaints. From the side, Sherry Shao held their mother's hands to stop her.

She sniffled and asked, "Howell, where on earth have you been? I called you so many times, but you fell off the grid. I wasn't able to get in touch with you."

Chapter 2 Lyman Showed Up

Howell raised his head to look at her. "Yesterday afternoon, I had something urgent to do at the neighboring city. I knew it was your birthday today, so I came back as soon as possible. I didn't expect that an accident would happen to Dad."

The thought of her husband still lying in the operating room made Macey cry again. "Now your father's life is in danger. What will we do if he doesn't make it?"

Sherry held her mother's hand tightly, trying her best to calm her down. "Mom, stop thinking like that. Dad won't get better no matter how hard you cry."

All of a sudden, the light of the operating room went out. Macey nervously stood up and rushed to the door where the doctor stood.

Sherry also walked up to the doctor and asked, "Doctor, how is my father? Is he okay?"

The doctor took off his mask and solemnly shook his head. "I'm sorry. We tried our best to save him, but he couldn't make it."

Howell was blinded by anger. He rushed to the doctor, gripped his collar with one hand and raised his other fist.

Seeing the reckless act, Macey slapped him hard and told him off. "Your father just died. Don't act on rash impulse! Let go of the doctor now."

Chastising her older brother, Sherry said, "Howell, it's not the doctor's fault. They tried their best."

He let go of the doctor and punched the wall instead. His eyes were red and swollen, looking like he was about to cry.

Taking a deep breath, Macey turned to the doctor. "I want to see my husband for the last time. Is that okay?"

He nodded at her request. Just in time, the nurse pushed the bed out of the operating room. Eric was lying in the bed, his body covered with white cloth.

Tears streamed down Macey's cheeks. Sherry just stared at her mother, trying to control her own emotions.

"Mom, you have to stay strong. Let's figure out how to process Dad's funeral first."

Macey deeply inhaled and talked to her daughter in a rigid voice, "Call Benny. If he doesn't answer, freeze his credit cards."

Sherry glanced at Howell before walking away. She took out the phone from her pocket and dialed Benny's number.

"Sorry, the number you dialed cannot be reached. Please..."

She hung up right away and dialed the bank's number. A voice answered her call. "Hello, this is the VIP customer service."

Sherry breathed in and said, "Hello, this is Sherry Shao. I want to freeze Benny Shao's credit cards."

The person on the other side of the phone call became quiet. After a few moments, the voice continued, "Miss, Mr. Shao has just spent three hundred thousand dollars in Las Vegas. Are you sure you want to freeze it?"

Sherry's face darkened at the customer service personnel's words. "Yes, I'm sure. Do it right now."

After saying that, she hung up right away. She returned to her mother with a gloomy face.

Macey saw her expression and asked, "Where on earth is he? Why didn't he come back?"

Sherry pursed her lips before answering, "Mom, don't be angry. Benny just lost his head for a moment, but he will be back soon."

Hearing that excuse, Macey had already guessed the situation. She narrowed her eyes and sternly said, "Do not try to cover for him. Tell me the whole truth."

Sherry tightly held the phone in her hand as she murmured, "Mom, Benny has just spent three hundred thousand dollars in Las Vegas."

Macey's face dimmed. She clenched her fist and stared at Sherry.

In a cold and strained high-pitched voice, she said, "What a bastard! I treated him well though he's not my own son. Yet he's still gambling in Las Vegas at a time like this."

Sherry engulfed her mother's body in a hug. She looked nervous while comforting her, "Mom, don't be like this. We must focus on dealing with Dad's funeral first. That's the most important thing right now, isn't it?"

"Sherry, bring Mom home first. I will deal with Dad's funeral. I promise to handle it properly," Howell intervened.

Sherry agreed and headed towards the elevator with her mother. Howell's expression darkened as soon as they went away. When Benny came back, he would definitely kick him out of the Shao family.

Ten minutes passed, and Sherry and her mother reached their car hand in hand. The driver scrambled to get out of the car and opened the door for them.

As soon as the driver sat in his seat, he asked, "Mrs. Shao, how is Mr. Shao? Is he out of danger?"

Sherry was crestfallen. She cleared her throat and said, "Austin, don't ask about it anymore."

Macey put her hand on Sherry's shoulder to stop her. "There's no need to hide it. Eric's dead. Drive us home so we can rest."

Hearing the exchange, the driver didn't dare to ask any more questions and just drove away from the hospital. Tears kept on falling from Macey's eyes. How would she be able to live without her husband?

The next morning, Lyman woke up early and saw Rosaline coming out of the dining room with a smile on her face.

She went up to him and said, "Lyman, breakfast is already served."

He held her in his arms and smelled the familiar scent coming from her body. He asked, "Rosaline, have you prepared today's newspaper? I want to read it this morning."

She gently patted his back and said with a smile, "Lyman, you're still so clingy. The newspaper is ready of course. You can go in and have breakfast now while reading it."

Lyman walked into the dining room with a faint smile. Thoughts about the decline of the Shao family made him giddy and he couldn't help but laugh.

Just as he sat down and picked up the newspaper, his phone suddenly rang.

Chapter 3 He Finally Found His Sister

Lyman picked up the phone. "Hello? Who's this?"

A man's voice answered, "Sir, your sister has been found. Do you want to see her now?"

The private detective's words made Lyman jump up from his chair in excitement. "What did you say? Have you really found my sister?"

The man confirmed, "Yes, I've really found your sister. She's in W University right now. I made an appointment with her today but I'm not sure if you're free."

Lyman put his palm on his forehead in an effort to calm himself down.

After a moment of silence, he answered, "I'm going to drive there right now. Wait for me at the gate of W University. If she really is my sister, I promise to give you a generous reward."

Rosaline walked up to him just as he hung up the phone. She brought a bowl of pork congee for Lyman to eat, only to find out that he was about to leave.

Rosaline was confused. She asked, "Lyman, you haven't eaten your breakfast yet. Where are you going?"

Lyman walked up to her and kissed her on the forehead. "Rosaline, I found Inna. I'm going to check if it's really her."

Rosaline was elated to hear the news. "Really? You found Inna? Are you sure?"

Lyman took a deep breath after tidying up his suit. He replied, "Don't worry. Inna has a birthmark on her arm. I can use that to confirm if the detective is right."

Rosaline heaved a deep breath. She felt excited as she looked at Lyman's retreating figure. She really wished they could find Inna.

Lyman quickly walked towards the garage to ride his white sports car. After sitting in the driver's seat, he closed his eyes and took a deep breath. He wanted to calm himself down.

He held the steering wheel tightly and whispered, "Inna, you must wait for me. I will come find you soon."

He then started the engine and proceeded to drive towards the school. All he wanted at the moment was to arrive there as soon as possible.

After a few minutes,

he arrived at W University. The detective walked up to him as soon as he saw Lyman get out of the car.

Lyman straightened his suit before anxiously asking, "Have you really found my sister?"

The detective handed him a photo and said, "Sir, this is your sister. She was adopted from an orphanage by a couple with the surname Lin. She has lived a good life thus far and has excellent grades, albeit being a little antisocial. She only has frequent contact with her good friend."

Lyman gripped the photo in his hand. The story of his sister's life made him feel depressed.

He walked towards the campus. The thought of meeting Inna soon made him feel an indescribable joy in his heart.

Holding a book in her hand, Inna nervously looked at her watch. She had been waiting for too long. Was the detective lying to her?

Lyman saw Inna's waiting figure from a distance and quickly walked towards her.

When he finally stood behind her, he called out in a trembling voice, "Inna."

She felt shivers all over her body after hearing his voice. Inna stood up stiffly before turning around to face the man behind her. Seeing him made her mind flood with childhood memories.

Lyman walked closer and gently put his hands on her cheeks. He felt a familiar feeling, a connection, and hugged her tightly.

"Why did you only come now? I thought you had abandoned me."

"Inna, why would you say that? You are my most beloved sister. How could I abandon you? I've sent people to look for you for three years now. I would've found you much earlier if only the orphanage you used to live in was easy to find."

Lyman dropped his arms to roll up her sleeve. He was faced with a birthmark that looked like a cherry blossom. This was it. He confirmed that this little girl is her beloved sister.

Inna hugged him and said, "I thought you didn't want me as your sister anymore. I thought that was why you didn't look for me for so many years."

Holding her hand, Lyman guided her to a nearby bench to sit down. He brought out a one-million-dollar check from his wallet.

He handed the check to the detective and said, "This is your reward. Thank you for your efforts for the past year. If you need anything in the future, don't hesitate to contact me."

The detective was more than happy after seeing the check. He nodded, "Alright. Thank you for your generosity. I will always be at your service."

After the detective left, Inna frowned and asked, "Why did you appear all of a sudden? Where have you been all these years?"

Lyman rested his head on his hand. "I studied abroad. After I graduated, I established a restructured company. I came back now to finally avenge our family. It's time to get back the things that were taken from us twenty years ago."

To his surprise, Inna pulled away and looked at him with a strange look. "Can you stop seeking revenge? So many years have passed already. That thing tore our family apart and caused us to be separated for many years. I don't want to lose you again."

Patting her cheek for comfort, Lyman smiled and said, "You little fool. Your brother is no longer the boy I was twenty years ago. I now have the ability to protect myself. This time, I can deal with the whole Shao family."

Suddenly, Sherry's voice rang out, calling for Inna. "Inna, here you are. I've been looking for you for a long time."

Lyman's faced darkened upon seeing the woman. He asked, "Inna, do you know her?"

With an oblivious smile on her face, Inna held his arm tightly and introduced him to the newcomer. "Sherry, this is my brother. We haven't seen each other for more than 20 years."
