Harper POV:
I had been standing at the center of the altar for two hours, but the groom's spot beside me was still empty.
Below the altar, the murmur of hundreds of high-ranking Pack members swelled into a restless, mocking tide.
The Pack Elder glanced irritably at the silver pocket watch, his gaze falling on the empty spot beside me, and let out a heavy sigh.
My mother, Victoria, suddenly grabbed my arm, her sharp nails piercing through the silk of my wedding dress, her voice filled with venom.
"If you had even an ounce of an inner wolf in your blood, Desean wouldn't have humiliated us in front of the entire tribe. A wolfless freak. That is what you are."
In our world, wolves were everything. Genetics dictated rank, power, and survival. Alpha CEOs ruled multinational Pack conglomerates, Betas managed corporate empires, and people born wolfless, lacking an inner beast, were treated like discarded garbage.
But they still chose me, a seemingly unremarkable "wolf-less" woman.
Because my father Reginald had buried the Moore Pack under hundreds of millions in debt, he used me as a bargaining chip in their negotiations.
The Montgomerys had agreed to the match not because they wanted me, but because they wanted our northern mineral ridge, our territory, and a foothold in Riverdale.
But I know that hey would never allow a wolfless bride to become their Luna-wolf-blood was everything to them.
So they chose Desean, their weakest and most useless son, who spent all day in bars.
They wanted to use that son to create a scandal-a pretext to humiliate the Moore Pack, a way to avoid any binding tie to me, and a means to seize every benefit once they had a legitimate reason.
And I had agreed because my grandmother was dying in the sanitarium, and because this was the only chance I had ever been given to hold my own fate.
More importantly, Desean was never my destination.
My eyes locked onto a solitary figure seated in the center aisle.
Jasper Jones.
The supreme Alpha King. The billionaire CEO of the Jones Global Syndicate, whose bloodline held undisputed dominance over every pack in North America. He sat with effortless elegance in a charcoal suit, his golden eyes observing the chaos with razor-sharp detachment.
I had done my research. His elders were restless under his iron rule, demanding an heir and pressing him to take a Luna to secure his throne. He needed a compliant wife. I needed capital, protection, and time.
I wouldn't mind if the scandal were even more severe, as that would give me a stronger justification for implementing my plan.
I pulled my arm free from Victoria's grip with a cold, deliberate motion. Her eyes flashed with fury, but before she could snap, my father Reginald hurried toward us from the edge of the altar.
His hands shook so violently that his phone almost slipped from his grasp. Cold sweat glistened on his receding hairline.
The heavy oak doors at the back of the cathedral swung open with a resounding bang. A Montgomery Pack enforcer marched down the center aisle, his combat boots thudding against the stone.
The enforcer reached the altar and leaned down to whisper in Reginald's ear.
Reginald's face drained of every drop of color. He staggered back, clutching his chest, before clearing his dry throat into the ceremonial microphone.
"The wedding... is canceled," Reginald announced, his voice trembling before the entire aristocracy of Riverdale. "Desean Montgomery has left the territory."
The cathedral erupted.
Gasps, sharp laughs, and cruel whispers crashed over the pews. Phone cameras flashed like silver daggers.
"A wolfless bride dumped at the altar! What a joke!"
"Did the Moore Pack really think an Alpha heir like Desean would settle for a defective nobody?"
Winston Montgomery, the Alpha Patriarch of the Montgomery Pack, stepped forward from the front row. He adjusted his tailored suit, his chin raised in blatant arrogance. He offered no apology, only cold disdain.
"An elite Alpha bloodline cannot be tainted by a wolfless cripple," Winston proclaimed coldly, ensuring every reporter heard his voice. "The fault lies entirely with the bride's failure to awaken a beast."
Victoria collapsed against the altar railing, sobbing hysterically into her lace handkerchief, wailing about the Moore Pack's immediate bankruptcy.
Beneath my veil, my blood flared with the ancient, dormant fire of the White Wolf, but I kept my breathing steady. I could not let the beast wake here. Not yet.
Our territory was collapsing under hundreds of millions of dollars in debt. If I walked out of this cathedral as an abandoned bride, my pack would be torn apart by creditors before sundown.
I lifted my chin. Through the opaque mesh of my veil, my gaze moved across the front row of VIP dignitaries.
I gathered the heavy white train of my gown and stepped down from the altar.
"Harper, what are you doing?" Victoria shrieked, trying to grab my veil.
I cast a single, freezing glance over my shoulder that pinned her where she stood.
The sea of gossiping socialites parted instantly as I walked. The silence spread like frost across the grand hall until the only sound left was the rhythmic click of my heels against the marble floor.
I stopped two feet in front of Jasper Jones.
The air around him was dense with the overwhelming scent of frosted cedar and raw, predatory dominance. The physical pressure of his aura alone made the Betas and Gammas in the adjacent rows lower their heads in instinctive submission.
Jasper tilted his head slightly, his gaze piercing through my veil as if he could see straight into my concealed soul.
"Mr. Jones," my voice rang out, clear, calm, and utterly devoid of fear. "Are you currently single and free of any mating bond?"
Sharp gasps echoed across the cathedral. Someone dropped a crystal champagne flute, shattering it against the floor.
A barely noticeable hint of interest flashed in Jasper's eyes, and a dangerous aura spread wildly through the air.
"I am," Jasper replied, he responded to me in a deep, melodious voice, saying that he didn't have any engagement at present..
I did not hesitate to extend my hand with lace gloves to him and invited him to finish the wedding.
"Then step up to the altar and marry me instead."
Harper POV:
Jasper rose to his feet, his towering frame casting a long shadow across the aisle. Without a word of hesitation, his large, warm hand closed firmly around my gloved fingers.
A sharp, static spark jumped from his skin to mine, sending a sudden tremor shooting up my arm.
He turned and led me toward the altar, his stride slow, deliberate, and commanding. The guests on either side flinched backward, bowing their heads under the crushing weight of his presence.
Winston Montgomery jumped out of his pew, his face flushed with indignation. "King Jasper! This is an insult to the Montgomery Pack! You cannot simply take our castoff-"
Jasper paused. He cast a single, lethal glance over his shoulder.
The temperature in the cathedral plummeted. Winston's jaw clamped shut mid-sentence, his throat visibly working as he choked back his words under the Alpha King's silent dominance. Pale and sweating, Winston retreated back into his seat.
We stepped onto the altar together.
The Pack Elder's hands shook so badly that the ceremonial parchment rattled in his grip. He looked at Jasper, then at my thick veil, sweating through his clerical robes.
"Y-Your Majesty," the Elder stammered, "are you certain you wish to bind yourself to a wolfless daughter of the Moore Pack?"
"Proceed with the blood oath," Jasper commanded, his tone leaving no room for argument.
Behind us, Victoria watched with her mouth open, her tears instantly replaced by greedy disbelief, while my father leaned against the pew, struggling to breathe.
The Elder brought forward the sacred silver-lined chalice filled with pure spring water.
Jasper drew a small ceremonial blade from his inner pocket. With a swift, practiced motion, he dragged the edge across his palm. Thick, dark crimson blood welled up and dripped into the clear water, swirling like red smoke.
He handed the blade to me.
I took the steel, carefully slicing the tip of my index finger beneath the hem of my sleeve. I let three drops of my blood fall into the chalice.
The moment our blood mingled in the water, an intense, searing warmth rushed through my veins, striking directly at my chest.
I raised my eyes beneath the veil. Jasper was staring down at me, his golden irises glowing with a dark, predatory curiosity that made my pulse race.
"By the witness of the Moon Goddess and the blood of the ancestors," the Elder chanted, his voice echoing through the stunned silence, "I declare you bound under Pack law. The groom may seal the union."
My entire body went rigid.
I had anticipated the legal binding, but not the physical seal before an audience. If he lifted my veil, the scent-blocking spell would break, and the truth of my dormant power would flood the room.
Jasper noticed my stiffness. He stepped forward, his broad shoulders completely shielding me from the sight of the guests and the flashing media cameras.
He did not reach for my veil.
Instead, he leaned down and pressed his warm, firm lips directly against my forehead through the sheer lace.
The contact exploded through my skull like a lightning strike. A raw, electric shock tore down my spine, making my knees buckle for a split second.
The Physical Surge.
Every textbook on werewolf biology described it as the undeniable marker of the mating bond. My heart slammed against my ribs in pure shock.
Jasper's breath hitched against my veil. His pupils constricted into sharp slits, his golden eyes blazing with an intense, possessive hunger.
"You have quite the claws for a little stray," he murmured, his voice so low that only my enhanced hearing caught the vibration.
I forced my breathing to steady, taking a subtle half-step back to break the current between us. "This is a transaction, Mr. Jones."
Thunderous, polite applause broke out from the bewildered crowd, masking our exchange.
My father Reginald immediately scrambled up the altar steps, rubbing his hands together with a fawning smile. "Your Majesty! What an honor! As Harper's father, we must discuss the dowry and territorial-"
Jasper did not even spare him a look. "Clear the hall," he instructed his Beta assistant who appeared at his side.
Jasper grabbed my wrist, his grip unyielding yet carefully measured not to bruise. "To the VIP suite. Now."
I lifted my train and walked beside him, leaving my stunned family and the buzzing reporters behind as the heavy double doors of the suite slammed shut, locking the world outside.
Harper POV:
The heavy doors clicked shut with a solid, electronic lock, sealing out the noise of the cathedral. The air inside the VIP suite instantly grew thick with the dominant cedar scent of the Alpha King.
Jasper tossed his suit jacket onto the leather sofa and loosened his silk tie with one fluid yank of his hand, exuding raw, untamed power.
I stood on the opposite side of the mahogany conference table, keeping the barrier between us.
"Thank you for stepping in out there," I said calmly, breaking the silence. "You saved both of our packs from a media catastrophe."
Jasper walked over to the dry bar, poured amber whiskey into a crystal tumbler, and turned around with a cold smirk. "A catastrophe for your father, perhaps. Not for me. Now tell me, Miss Moore, how do you intend to pay for my performance?"
I unzipped my clutch, drew out a neatly folded document, and slid it across the polished wood.
"This is an agreement for the immediate transfer of the Moore Pack's northern mineral ridge," I stated evenly. "In exchange, we will remain married for exactly three years. After three years, we file for an uncontested divorce under the standard provisions of the Bankruptcy Code and Pack charter. The land will be yours, and our packs will part ways cleanly."
Jasper looked down at the document. The air around him dropped ten degrees.
He set his glass down with a sharp clink and closed the distance between us in three long strides. He planted both hands on the table, leaning over until his face was inches from my veil.
"A three-year divorce clause?" His voice was dangerously soft, vibrating with suppressed anger. "You expect the Alpha King of the Jones Syndicate to be dumped by a wolfless bride after three years? Do you have any idea what that would do to my authority on the High Council?"
"It is a business arrangement," I countered, refusing to lean away from his overwhelming aura. "You need a compliant wife to silence your elders' demands for an heir, and I need capital to clear my pack's debts."
Jasper's hand shot forward. His fingers wrapped around my wrist with iron strength, pulling me half an inch closer.
His breath brushed against the lace over my ear, scorching hot. "Do not mistake my patience for weakness, little wolf. You do not dictate the rules in an Alpha's territory."
I twisted my wrist sharply, using the leverage of an ancient martial grip to break his hold, and stepped back into the open space of the room.
"If you find my terms unacceptable," I said coldly, "I can walk out those doors right now and inform the press that the ceremony was an administrative error."
Jasper stared at his empty hand, then up at my veiled face. The fury in his golden eyes shifted into a deep, calculating intrigue.
He walked back to the bar, drained his whiskey in one swallow, and crossed his arms over his broad chest. "Three years. I accept the timeframe. But the terms will be mine."
"Name them," I said, watching him warily.
"First, you move into the Jones Estate tonight," Jasper said, pacing back toward the desk. "You will perform every public duty required of a Luna. Second, you will not question my business or my authority."
"I am not a prisoner," I replied sharply. "I require total freedom of movement, and we will maintain separate private quarters. There will be no physical consummation."
Jasper's golden eyes narrowed as he studied my silhouette for several agonizing seconds. "Agreed."
He pulled a fountain pen from his pocket, made two brisk amendments in the margin of the contract, and signed his name in sharp, elegant strokes. He slid the pen and paper back toward me.
I picked up the pen and signed my name beneath his without hesitation.
Jasper picked up the executed document, a predator's satisfaction settling over his features. "The deal is sealed."
He leaned against the desk, his eyes locking onto my face. "Now take off that ridiculous veil and let me see what I just bought."
