Refusing The Northern Alpha's Fatal Rejection

Author: Baxy Koseluk
Genre: Werewolf
I transmigrated into the body of Alvina Buckley, the most despised noble daughter in the Lycan empire. The moment I opened my eyes, my terrifying Lycan husband, the Lord of the North, was standing over me with pure disgust, about to sever our mate-bond. The original owner of this body had just framed his mother with silver poison at a royal banquet, sending the high Luna to a freezing prison. Now, everyone wanted me dead. His royal sister was ready to tear my throat out, and the entire Northern Knight Order treated me like vermin. In the original storyline, my husband would step out of this room, obey a royal summons, and have his energy channels permanently destroyed by a silver-laced whip. All of this was orchestrated by Jens Wolfe, the hypocritical noble the original Alvina had foolishly worshipped. After my husband was crippled, I would be abandoned and left to rot in a dark cell. I refused to let that be my fate. Why should I die for a traitor's manipulative game? Hearing him speak the fatal rejection vow, I threw off the blankets, lunged forward, and grabbed his heavy military uniform. "No. I do not accept." I looked straight into his golden eyes and exposed the entire death trap waiting for him in the capital. When Jens Wolfe came knocking the next morning to gloat over my misery, I calmly poured a cup of tea. Because I had already hidden my monstrous husband behind the grand hall's tapestry, just waiting for the traitor to confess his own treason.

Chapter 1

Alvina POV:

I opened my eyes, my vision blurred by the dim amber glow of the fireplace.

"I, Deacon Christensen..."

My stomach plummeted. Hearing that fatal opening sentence, I did not hesitate. I threw off the fur blanket and swung my bare feet onto the freezing marble floor.

He frowned slightly, his golden eyes narrowing at my sudden movement, but his sacred vow did not falter.

"...reject you, Alvina Buckley..."

A pair of icy, glowing golden pupils locked onto mine from the edge of the bed. The suffocating weight of raw Alpha power pressed against my chest, making my lungs seize. My fingers instinctively curled into the heavy velvet sheets beneath me.

Deacon Christensen stood over me like a carved iron monument. His massive frame blocked out the light, his feral Lycan aura radiating heat and cold all at once. He was the greatest warrior the empire had ever seen, the Lord of the North, and my fated mate.

A sharp, stabbing ache ripped through my skull as memories of a life I had already lived slammed into my consciousness. I sucked in a ragged breath, digging my nails into the wooden frame of the bed to steady myself.

Scenes from my past life flashed before me like reflections in flowing water, filling me with agonizing regret and sorrow.

I had been deceived by men harboring malicious schemes and framed for poisoning my mother-in-law with silver-based toxin; ultimately, I died full of resentment in a dark dungeon, reviled by all and bearing the weight of that unjust accusation.

Now, I find myself back at the very moment those events unfolded-recalling how utterly helpless and wretched I once was-yet now, I have the chance to set everything right.

Not again. This time, I would find a way to free the high Luna and expose the people who had framed us both. The Jens Wolfe who deceived me with my love in a past life? I would make him pay for every tear, every humiliation, and every ounce of suffering he had inflicted on me. I would no longer sacrifice myself for a man who had never valued me, nor would I let him use my feelings to destroy anyone else.

And now, my husband was about to sever our souls.

Deacon looked down at me with pure disgust. His thin lips parted, his voice carrying the dead chill of a winter grave

The moment the words left his mouth, a searing, tearing pain exploded at the base of my neck. The mate-bond recoiled like a snapped iron chain, sending a wave of nausea crashing over me. My knees buckled beneath my weight.

I bit the tip of my tongue until the sharp taste of copper filled my mouth, using the physical sting to anchor my slipping focus. I forced my trembling legs to take a step forward, closing the icy distance between us.

Deacon turned his broad shoulder away, his shadow engulfing me completely, as if even breathing the same air sickened his inner wolf.

"...as my mate."

The final words dropped like stones into the dead quiet of the bedchamber. The air in the room felt utterly emptied, crushing my chest under an invisible vice.

I refused to speak the acceptance vow. I ignored his hostile posture, lunged forward with everything I had, and grabbed the thick lapels of his black military uniform with both hands.

He had not expected me to touch him. His iron-hard muscles instantly locked up, and he raised an arm to shove me off.

Before he could exert his terrifying strength, I tilted my head back. My eyes were burning red as I stared directly into his startled golden gaze, my voice shaking yet completely unyielding.

"No. I do not accept."

Deacon froze. His hand remained suspended in the air, his golden pupils contracting into thin, dangerous slits as he tried to decipher whatever game he thought I was playing.

To soothe the raging Lycan beast clawing inside him, I endured the burning agony at my scent gland and deliberately pushed out the calming fragrance of crisp white tea blossoms.

The delicate floral scent swept through the locked chamber, colliding head-on with his aggressive, heavy cedar aroma, winding around his jagged edges like cool water over hot coals.

His throat bobbed as he swallowed hard. The hand raised to push me away curled into a tight, trembling fist, his knuckles turning chalky white under the strain.

"Alvina, drop your pathetic tricks," he snarled through gritted teeth, though a faint rasp betrayed the sudden chaos in his chest.

I did not step back. Instead, I pressed my cheek flat against his hard, armor-plated chest, feeling the wild, thunderous beat of his heart hammering through the heavy wool.

"I was wrong, Deacon," I whispered softly against his collar, keeping my voice low enough that only the two of us could hear. "I know I was wrong."

He let out a harsh, dry bark of laughter, the vibration rattling straight through my skull.

"Will your apology buy my mother her freedom from the tower?"

"I will prove it to you," I said, lifting my chin to look him dead in the eye. "Give me three days. If I cannot undo the damage, I will walk into the Tower of the Deposed myself."

Deacon narrowed his eyes, his gaze scanning every inch of my face like a hawk looking for deceit.

I did not blink. I held his gaze, opening my mind without sending a single ripple of defensive hostility through the open bond, betting everything on the faint ember of attachment he still held for his fated mate.

Just as the harsh ice in his expression showed the faintest hairline fracture, heavy, frantic footsteps pounded down the outer corridor.

Deacon snapped back to reality. He grabbed my wrists and tore my hands away from his chest with enough force to make me gasp.

A deafening crash shook the room as the heavy oak door was kicked open from the outside, wood splinters flying across the floor.

The sudden violence sent me stumbling backward until my spine hit the cold wooden bedpost. I peered past Deacon's wide shoulders toward the entrance.

A slender, lethal figure stood framed in the shattered doorway, her long silver hair whipping wildly in the draft as she locked onto me with pure murderous intent.

Chapter 2

Alvina POV:

Standing in the ruined doorway was Princess Jaelyn Christensen, Deacon's younger sister and a pure-blooded white wolf of the imperial line. The silver wolf guard strapped to her right wrist gleamed with a deadly sheen under the flickering torches.

Her pale cyan eyes had shifted into sharp, beast-like slits, burning with pure rage. She crossed the threshold with long, aggressive strides, her heavy leather boots clicking against the marble like a death knell.

Deacon immediately shifted his stance, placing his massive body directly between us, forming an impenetrable wall of muscle that cut off her direct line of attack.

"Brother, why did you stop?" Jaelyn demanded, her teeth bared as she glared past his shoulder, looking at me as if I were vermin beneath her heel.

I rubbed my bruised lower back against the bedpost, forcing my breathing into a steady rhythm to reel in the scent of white tea blossoms so I would not provoke her volatile wolf any further.

Deacon did not turn around. His voice dropped to its usual freezing, commanding tone.

"Jaelyn, stand down. This is between husband and wife."

Jaelyn let out a furious, bitter laugh, pointing a trembling finger straight at my face.

"Husband and wife? She handed our mother the cup laced with silver! Now Mother stands accused of trying to poison the King and rots in the Tower of the Deposed-and you are still shielding this female?"

I took a deep breath and leaned out from behind Deacon's back, meeting the fiery glare of the white wolf princess.

"I did not poison her, Princess. I was framed."

"Silence! Do you think I will swallow another one of your disgusting lies?" Jaelyn growled, a pale, ghostly silhouette of a giant white wolf shimmering around her shoulders.

The heavy weight of her royal Alpha pressure rolled across the room, making my legs tremble, but I dug my fingers into the edge of Deacon's dark tunic to keep myself upright.

"Jaelyn!" Deacon barked, his voice booming like thunder.

His overwhelming Lycan aura burst forth in an instant, instantly smothering Jaelyn's pressure and forcing the air backward like a physical wall.

Jaelyn stumbled back half a step, hurt and disbelief flashing across her youthful face.

"You use your bloodline to suppress me for her?"

I looked at the rigid line of Deacon's jaw, knowing the immense strain he was under. He was caught between his family's honor and the instinctual pull of our bond. I could not let him shoulder this alone.

I let go of his sleeve and took a deliberate step forward, exposing myself entirely to Jaelyn's lethal glare.

"Your Highness, I know nothing I say right now will sound like the truth," I said, keeping my posture straight and my voice completely steady. "But the real culprit is sitting in the shadows right now, laughing while we tear each other apart."

Jaelyn crossed her arms over her leather breastplate, her expression dripping with contempt.

"What, are you going to blame some nameless maid to take the fall for you?"

"Not a maid," I answered without a second of hesitation. "Lord Jens Wolfe."

The name hit the room like an iron anvil dropped into still water.

Deacon spun his head toward me so fast his dark hair whipped across his brow, his golden eyes blazing with raw shock.

Jaelyn froze for a second before letting out a loud, mocking sneer.

"Everyone in the empire knows you worship that hypocrite like a god. You expect us to believe you are turning on him?"

I knew how deep my own blind infatuation with Jens Wolfe had once run-far too deep for simple words to erase. I had to throw down a much heavier card.

"He did not just orchestrate the framing of the Luna," I said, pronouncing every syllable with sharp precision. "He has also conspired with Commander Haven Bates to commit high treason."

The moment Haven Bates's name left my lips, the mocking sneer on Jaelyn's face shattered completely. Haven was the empire's Gamma commander, her betrothed, and the man she trusted above all others.

"You lie!" Jaelyn roared, her control breaking entirely.

She turned into a blur of silver light, lunging straight at me with her curved claws aimed directly at my exposed throat.

I did not flinch, and I did not try to dodge. I knew someone in this room was faster than her.

Deacon moved like a shadow. His large, scarred hand caught Jaelyn's wrist mid-air, the sheer force of the block sending a shockwave that threw her back two full steps.

"Brother!" Jaelyn yelled, clutching her numbed wrist, her eyes rimmed with angry tears.

"Let her finish," Deacon said, his voice dropping into a dark, terrifying register as he stared at me as if looking at a total stranger.

I exhaled a quiet breath, knowing I had bought my first sliver of survival, but the ledge was still narrow.

Before I could lay out the rest of the details, the shrill, piercing sound of an eagle-bone whistle sliced through the heavy night air outside the castle walls.

Deacon's expression hardened instantly. That was the emergency summons signal of the Alpha King, meaning the royal decree for his punishment had already arrived at the gates.

Chapter 3

Alvina POV:

The shrill whistle had barely faded when the hurried voice of Wyatt, Deacon's Beta guard, sounded from the ruined doorway.

"My Lord! The royal messenger has arrived at the courtyard with the Alpha King's Command!"

Deacon did not waste a second. He let go of the tension in his shoulders, turned to the wooden stand by the wall, and grabbed his heavy black commander's cloak, swinging it around his broad shoulders with cold finality.

The Alpha King's Command was no ordinary summons. Deacon's mother had taken the silver-laced cup from my hands and passed it to the king; before he could drink, she collapsed, and the healers found the poison in the goblet. The king had her locked in the Tower of the Deposed, and when Deacon pleaded for both her and me, his defense only fed the royal fury. Now the king had ordered Deacon to answer for us in the royal court and submit to punishment in my stead.

My heart hammered against my ribs like a trapped bird. In the memories of my past life, Deacon had obeyed that exact decree and walked into the royal court, where Jens Wolfe had arranged for him to be punished with a whip secretly laced with silver needles. The torture had permanently destroyed Deacon's energy channels, robbing the empire's greatest warrior of the power that had once made him invincible.

I remembered what happened afterward, too. When the accusations against me had finally become impossible to deny, Deacon had been the first to act. Despite everything I had done to hurt him, he had secretly brought me to this very chamber and hidden me inside a passage he had built with his own hands when he was fourteen. He had risked his reputation and his safety to give me a chance to escape the people who wanted me ruined.

Now I had another chance. I couldn't erase the pain I'd caused Deacon, but I could at least return the protection he had once given me. I would not stand by and watch him walk into the same trap while I still had the power to warn him.

"You cannot go!" I shouted, sprinting across the room and throwing my back hard against the heavy oak door frame, spreading my arms wide to block the exit.

Deacon stopped two feet in front of me, staring down with dark, furrowed brows.

"Step aside, Alvina. Defying the Alpha King's Command is an immediate death sentence."

Jaelyn's voice lashed out from behind him, sharp with grief and fury.

"Are you out of your mind? You poisoned our mother, and now your madness is dragging my brother to the executioner's block! Step aside before you destroy him too!"

Her accusation struck a raw nerve. I had spent too long blaming myself for a crime that Jens and Haven had manipulated me into, but I knew better than to waste precious time defending myself to Jaelyn now. The only thing that mattered was keeping Deacon alive long enough for me to expose the truth.

I ignored Jaelyn entirely, fixing my eyes onto Deacon's harsh golden stare.

"It is a trap designed specifically to cripple you. The moment you step into the royal court, you will never walk out on your own two feet again!"

Deacon's jaw tightened, a flicker of dark frustration crossing his eyes. He reached out with one massive hand, grabbing my shoulder to drag me out of his path.

His grip was like an iron vise. The bones in my shoulder groaned under the pressure, but I bit down hard on my lip and dug my bare heels into the cold floorboards, refusing to budge an inch.

"Deacon Christensen!" I yelled his full name, my voice cracking from the strain. "Do you care so little about your own life?"

His hand paused. The sheer, desperate madness in my eyes seemed to stun him for a fraction of a second, and the brutal grip on my shoulder loosened slightly.

Taking advantage of his hesitation, I grabbed his thick wrist with both hands and pulled with all the weight in my body, yanking him back toward the center of the bedchamber.

"Have you lost your mind?" Jaelyn gasped, rushing forward to pry my hands away, but I threw her a glare so fierce that her steps faltered.

I had no idea whether I could change what was coming. I wasn't omniscient, and the memories I carried were far from a guarantee that events would unfold exactly as they had before. But I remembered how, in my previous life, Deacon had chosen to protect me even after I was accused, telling me about the hidden passage he had built for himself at fourteen. I knew I had to act before the royal messenger could force him out of this room.

I did not know where my strength came from, but I managed to drag Deacon all the way to the stone fireplace. Reaching behind the heavy mantelpiece, I slammed my palm against the hidden stone groove three times in rapid succession.

With a dull, grinding click, the stone wall beside the hearth slid open, revealing a narrow, pitch-black secret passage wide enough for only two people.

Deacon's eyes widened in shock. I knew what had stunned him, but I could not explain it with memories from my previous life-not now. According to what he had told me back then, not even Jaelyn knew this passage existed.

"Get in," I commanded, shoving his heavy frame into the dark opening before turning to the stunned princess. "You too, Jaelyn, unless you want your brother dead before dawn."

Jaelyn gritted her teeth, her pride warring with her concern, but she ducked her head and followed us into the narrow stone corridor. The hidden door ground shut behind us, cutting off all light except for a single, flickering oil lamp mounted on the damp wall.

The air was thick and cold, our mingled breaths loud in the confined space.

"What kind of game are you playing, Alvina?" Deacon broke the silence, leaning his back against the wet stone, his golden eyes gleaming like polished daggers in the dark.

I skipped all pleasantries and drove straight to the point.

"The thorn whip they prepared for your punishment in the royal court has been secretly replaced by Jens Wolfe. The tips are lined with fine silver needles."

The temperature in the small tunnel seemed to drop below freezing in an instant. Silver was the absolute, lethal weakness of our kind.

"That is impossible!" Jaelyn hissed immediately. "The disciplinary weapons are guarded exclusively by the Council of Elders. A territorial lord like Jens Wolfe cannot touch them."

"He can when the Chief Elder has been bought with embezzled military funds," I replied coldly, repeating what I had learned in my previous life after the truth finally began to surface.

Deacon's face shifted, the muscles along his neck corded with tension. He knew the rot inside the Council of Elders better than anyone, and my words struck directly at his oldest suspicions.

"What proof do you have?" he asked, his voice low and dangerously quiet.

I looked him dead in the eye, delivering the final blow.

"The proof is that Haven Bates is not guarding the southern border right now. He has already slipped into the capital secretly, escorting a pregnant female wolf from the enemy kingdom."

I had not known the full extent of Haven's involvement until my previous life was already beyond saving. The revelation had come in pieces, each one exposing another lie Jens had fed me and another part of the conspiracy I had been too blind to recognize. I couldn't explain every detail now, but I could use what I remembered to stop them before they destroyed Deacon, too.

Jaelyn looked as if she had been struck by lightning. The color drained from her face, leaving her ghost-white as she staggered back, her spine hitting the rough stone wall.

Deacon straightened up, his towering frame filling the narrow passage as his Lycan aura flared violently, making the flame inside the oil lamp flicker and pop.

"Alvina," he growled, reaching out and clamping his large hand around my jaw, lifting my face toward his blazing golden eyes. "If you are lying about this to save your own skin..."
