Reclaiming My Lost Sons

Author: : Snootie
Genre: Billionaires
My life was built on an American dream: a loving wife, Jessica, and our incredible 9-year-old son, Leo. He was the center of my world. Then, a brutal blow. Jessica was cheating, and my friend revealed, "Leo isn't yours." My wife confirmed it brazenly, smirking, naming a wealthy businessman as her lover and Leo's biological father. My very existence fractured. I sought solace from my mother, Sarah, my rock. Instead, she demanded I stay married. She bafflingly sided with Jessica, even giving her money for "debts" while denying my struggling startup a vital loan. When we both fell ill, she coldly gave my medicine to Jessica, leaving me to suffer. Her serene facade now hid a chilling calculation. "Get out!" I screamed, renouncing her, and moved out, filing for divorce, utterly abandoned. How could my own mother betray me so utterly? Why was she protecting the woman who destroyed everything? Was she mad, or was there a sinister plot behind her actions? Each day plunged me deeper into suspicion, despair, and profound confusion. Months later, a cryptic text from her: "Come to the festival. Now. You need to see this." Amidst the crowd, she stood with a boy identical to Leo. As my wife, holding our Leo, confronted her, my mother dropped the bombshell. "This is Ethan," she announced, "your son." "And so is Leo." "They are your biological twin sons. Yours and Emily's." My deceased first wife. The unimaginable truth had finally begun to unfold.

Introduction

My life was built on an American dream: a loving wife, Jessica, and our incredible 9-year-old son, Leo.

He was the center of my world.

Then, a brutal blow.

Jessica was cheating, and my friend revealed, "Leo isn't yours."

My wife confirmed it brazenly, smirking, naming a wealthy businessman as her lover and Leo's biological father.

Now. You need to see this."

Amidst the crowd, she stood with a boy identical to Leo.

As my wife, holding our Leo, confronted her, my mother dropped the bombshell.

"This is Ethan," she announced, "your son."

"And so is Leo."

"They are your biological twin sons. Yours and Emily's."

My deceased first wife.

The unimaginable truth had finally begun to unfold.

Chapter 1

The words hit Mike like a punch to the gut, "Jessica's cheating on you, son."

His friend, Tom, looked miserable delivering the news, but Mike knew Tom wouldn't lie about something this big.

"And Leo... they're saying Leo isn't yours."

Leo, his nine-year-old boy, the center of his world.

Mike felt the floor drop out from under him.

He confronted Jessica that night.

She didn't even try to deny it, just shrugged, a smirk playing on her lips.

"So? What are you going to do about it, Mike?"

Her lover was Richard Vance, a wealthy local businessman, almost her father's age.

And Leo, yes, Leo was Richard's. She'd confirmed it, casual as if discussing the weather.

Mike wanted to scream, to break something, but a cold numbness settled over him.

"I want a divorce, Jessica."

"Fine by me," she said, already scrolling through her phone.

He drove to his mother's house, his vision blurred by tears he refused to let fall.

Sarah, his mom, had always been his rock, especially after his dad, David, died.

A former school counselor, she was calm, logical. She'd understand. She'd help him through this.

He stumbled into her kitchen, the words tumbling out, "Jessica... an affair... Richard Vance... Leo... he's not... he's not mine."

Sarah listened, her face unreadable.

He expected shock, anger, sympathy.

Instead, she poured him a glass of water, her movements slow, deliberate.

"Michael," she said, her voice even, "you can't divorce Jessica."

He stared at her. "What? Mom, did you hear what I said? She cheated. Leo isn't my son!"

"Leo is your son in every way that matters, Michael. You raised him. And Jessica... she needs support right now."

Mike felt a fresh wave of disbelief. "Support? She needs support? What about me?"

"Think of Leo," Sarah said, her gaze firm. "A divorce will destroy him. You need to keep this family together, for his sake."

"But it's all a lie!" Mike's voice cracked. "How can I live like that?"

Sarah walked over to him, put a hand on his arm. It felt cold.

"Sometimes, Michael, we do things we don't want to do for the people we love. Jessica made a mistake. People make mistakes."

"A mistake?" He pulled his arm away. "This is more than a mistake, Mom. This is... this is everything."

He saw Leo's face in his mind, his bright smile, the way he'd run to him shouting "Dad!"

The pain was a physical thing, twisting inside him.

"I can't, Mom. I won't."

Sarah sighed, a sound of deep weariness. "Michael, please. Don't be rash. Give it some time. For Leo. For me."

Her eyes, usually so warm, held a plea he didn't understand, but it was laced with something else, something hard.

He felt cornered, confused. His own mother, siding with the woman who had shattered his life.

"I... I need to think," he mumbled, backing away.

"Just promise me you won't do anything drastic right now," Sarah said. "A month. Give it a month. See how things are."

A month? Living with Jessica, knowing everything? It felt like a life sentence.

But the look on his mother's face, the strange intensity, made him nod slowly.

"Okay, Mom. One month."

He left her house feeling more alone than he ever had in his life.

Chapter 2

The next few weeks were a living hell for Mike.

Jessica, sensing Sarah's inexplicable support, became bolder, her affair with Richard Vance an open secret.

She'd come home late, smelling of expensive perfume and another man, not even bothering to make excuses.

Leo, oblivious, was his usual happy self, and Mike tried to keep up a brave face for him, but it was tearing him apart.

Sarah, meanwhile, doubled down on her kindness towards Jessica.

She'd invite Jessica and Leo over for dinner, showering them with attention, while Mike felt like an unwelcome guest in his own mother's home.

He watched Sarah, trying to understand.

He saw her observing Jessica, a faint, unreadable expression on her face when Jessica wasn't looking.

One afternoon, Mike found Sarah going through Jessica's purse.

Jessica had left it at Sarah's house after one of their "girls' lunches."

"Mom, what are you doing?"

Sarah didn't startle. She calmly pulled out a small, ornate pillbox.

"Just curious, dear," she said, her voice smooth. "Jessica mentioned she wasn't feeling well."

She opened it, looked inside, then closed it and put it back, her face giving nothing away.

Mike felt a chill. His mother wasn't just being kind, she was... studying Jessica.

His startup, his one escape from the misery at home, was teetering on the brink.

He needed a small loan, just a few thousand dollars, to secure a crucial contract.

He swallowed his pride and asked Sarah.

"I'm sorry, Michael," she said, not meeting his eyes. "I just don't have it right now."

He knew she had savings. His father had left her well provided for.

The next day, he overheard Jessica on the phone with Sarah.

"Oh, Sarah, you're a lifesaver! I don't know what I would have done. These debts were crushing me."

Debts? Jessica worked part-time at a boutique. Her only "debts" were for designer clothes and spa days.

Later, Sarah handed Jessica an envelope thick with cash.

Mike confronted his mother when Jessica left, Leo in tow.

"You gave her money? I asked you for a loan, for my business, my future, and you said no. But you give her cash for God knows what?"

Sarah's face was calm, too calm. "Jessica was in trouble, Michael. She needed help."

"And I don't?" His voice rose. "Mom, what is wrong with you? Whose side are you on?"

"There are no sides, Michael," she said softly. "Only family."

He stormed out, the injustice burning in his chest.

As he drove away, he glanced in his rearview mirror.

Sarah was standing on the porch, watching him.

And for a fleeting second, he thought he saw a small, cold smile on her lips.

It vanished so quickly he wondered if he'd imagined it.

But the image stayed with him, unsettling him more than her words.

His mother was up to something. Something he didn't understand.
