Laying on the ground, Acacia's life withered before her eyes. She revealed a smile of despair.
The extreme pain and the fact that she was in an ice-cold bathtub made her feel a little numb. After all, no matter how painful it was, it could not be compared to the despair she was feeling right now.
Just now, her younger sister, Sarah Wood, whom she had treasured since their childhood, stared down arrogantly at her. She kept on revealing past events that had taken place in their lives over the years and how she had a hand in each and every one of them. She was a completely different person from the weak and innocent image that surfaced in Acacia's mind every time she wanted to give up everything. She looked really scary.
Before she left, Sarah injected drugs into Acacia, leaving her in the room with the words, "There's another big surprise for you. Don't be wild just yet."
Acacia's last bit of strength collapsed as she watched Sarah walk out of the room. The aphrodisiac started kicking in. All of this was so ironic, thinking of all that just took place. Now even living simply seemed to be an extravagant hope. After all, the one she was holding up for all this while, had been the master mind of all her misfortunes.
As she laid down on the bed she begun to undo her shirt, while foundling with her breasts. She bit hard on her lips to give herself some sanity as she figured the drug was what was making her behave this way. She kept biting on her lip as she got up and walked to the bathroom. She opened the cold tap into the bathtub and sat in it. She heard staying under a cold shower could slow down the effect of the drug. But that alone won't be enough, she had to get the antidote.
She laughed at her current situation. It's not as if Sarah was going to come back and say "This is the antidote, take it."
Acacia suddenly recalled what Sarah said before leaving the room. Her eyes suddenly turned cold. She'd rather die than to let these events repeat itself. If she couldn't get out of here, then she'd rather make this place her grave yard.
She looked around the bathroom trying to search for an object with a sharp edge. She saw a bottle of wine on a chart not far away from the door, with a fruit platter beside it. Sarah really prepared for this event. She used the little bit of strength to walk out of the tub, took the fruit knife and entered the tub again.
She knew the person Sarah has would be there any moment from now. If she has to end things, she has to do it now. Thinking about this, she cut her left wrist, then switched hands and cut the other hand as well. She wanted to end this fast.
The pain that both wounds brought was so intense that she turned pale at once. The corners of her mouth twitched as she laughed at herself depreciatingly. She was the one who wanted to end this life, and now she's getting scared of pain.
She submerged herself into the cold water, drowning her petite body.
As her consciousness faded, the life she had lived for the last twenty years begun to flash before her life. It was really stupid and pitiful.
Acacia made her debut as a child actress at the age of five. She was adorable, pretty with her doll-like appearance and cute. She was spotted by a veteran industry agent, and was given an Ad from a renowned company. Her eloquence coupled her cute and pretty little face stole the hearts of viewers, both young and old. Since then, she has done numerous advertisements and quickly became a well-known national child actress.
As Acacia grew up, she improved so much so that entertainment companies brought her roles and advertisement. It was needless to say that she had gathered a lot of loyal fans and the people both young and old had a particularly good impression of her...
You could say her popularity almost rivaled that of a veteran actress in the industry. Even some of the adult actresses who are in the industry called the goddess of the box office when she's just a teen.
No matter what product she advertised or which movie she filmed, it broke records of her previous ones.
Just when everyone thought she'd grow out of her glory before she hit a legal age, she received the most prestigious award in the entertainment industry three times.
Acacia won the Best Teen Actress award twice and the Best Actress Awards on her eighteenth birthday.
The whole world was cheering for her as she walked onto the podium to receive the award, her smile shining as dazzling as the stars in the night.
However, only she knew that behind that dazzling smile, lay a weak and lonesome soul whose parent have turned her into a money-making tool.
Ever since she debuted, all of Acacia's schedule had been decided by her parents. She had never signed with a company before. To outsiders, it was her parents who felt sorry for their child and were thus protecting her from the harshness of the entertainment industry.
However, who would have known that it was the greed of not having to save all of the profit from her gigs for themselves, rather than the wellbeing of their daughter.
At that time, Acacia was only five years old, and she had just stared to go on screen, so it was understandable that they'd take care of her every project personally.
But as she grew older, Acacia begun to realize that not only do her parent turn away known agencies who bring in profitable proposal to them intending to let her join them, even Mr. Ace who scouted her has had to drag them for years, with them giving him one excuse or the other.
In their eyes, the innocent and naive Acacia was their ticket to a good life of luxury so they had to scape whatever wealth she's bringing in for themselves. Who's to say that she'd grow up and start to restrict their lavish spending
Acacia was like a puppet being sent from one set to another. She smiled when she should, cried when she should. Sometimes she was so tired that she accidentally falls asleep on the way to her next set. The little time that she had in-between set hours would always be used to either read lines for either her script or be on the phone, discussing lines of a few carry-on advertisements.
Acacia had never had a normal life among her peers. She didn't use to spend much time in school. Even on days that she thought she'd spend a day in school, she spent it alone without interacting with her class mates because she'd be shunned by her peers. She didn't know why but for some reason no one wanted to talk to her, although she was a celebrity. They either look at her with contempt, or avoid her like she's some vampire or plague or something, making her doubt herself.
It was not that she had never tried to resist, but she was always severely criticized by her parents. They scolded her for being young and not knowing anything, even when she knows what is right and wrong at her age. Sometimes they'd threaten her by letting Sarah take her place. She'd be glad if that were the case, because she didn't want any of this. But Sarah was young, and she did not want her to live this kind of life. She didn't want her to be a tool for their parents like she is. She'd rather carry this cross so Sarah could live an ordinary life.
As long as she was obedient, it would be fine. The whole family had to rely on her to support them.
Acacia originally thought that all would be fine as long as she reached legal age. She'd endure even when she wasn't happy.
However, after winning the award at the age of 18, things became even worse.
With the honor of being the youngest female to ever win the Best Female Actress Award, Acacia's status in the entertainment industry rose even higher, more than any of the debuting actresses her age. Her name was in the tabloids for a long time. Coupled with the fact that she was celebrating her birthday, she thought she'd be able to free herself now.
However, faced with her parents greed for more money, they kept introducing Acacia to producers and directors who had bad reputations in the industry. It got bad to the extent that they'd let her meet all sort of investors, all in the name of they were her fans, and that they wanted to invest in her career. This made the internet start discussing her as, an actress who became arrogant after having fame. Her reputation quickly plummeted, and pictures were seen of her every time with either an investor who was rumored to be having as affair with her.
It got so bad that even her loyal fans were beginning to doubt her. Even her parents weren't coming out to defend her, so they didn't have a choice but to believe what the tabloids were saying.
Those rich businessmen were all famous for having a hobby of playing with female celebrities. In their eyes, Acacia, who was young and looked prettier than most or they should say all the women they had played around with, was a more interesting play thing. To top it off, she had won an award for Best Actress, which of those weasels wouldn't want to boost of having bedded the national goddess.
The more her parent made her expose herself with these old hags, the more the nation became fueled with anger over the fact that she was not coming out to explain. They said that she had been blinded by the fact that the whole country had been her stepping stone to fame. And that they were going to boycott her movies and Ads until she fell from her high horse.
They're love for her had completely turned into anger and disappointment. Her Instagram page was always full of angered comments from fans and internet water armies. Some showed pure hatred for her, while others were disappointed. The few who would try to defend her were swallowed by the fury of the masses.
Headlines with the title "The vixen of the century" were all over the major internet websites.
On countless late nights had she looked at the comments with fury and pain. She had always wanted to defend herself. She had pleaded with her parents to let her go out to explain, or at least let her take it to her page and let her fans know what's going on, but they had always shut her up, telling her to let time take care of things. She knew very well why they didn't want her to go out to explain. It wasn't for her good, it was because they'll stop making money from those old weasels. She had always wanted to scream out at those comments, to let the world know that It wasn't like that! That she was not that kind of person!
Alas, the only thing she'd do was stay in her room and cry.
She remembered one time during one of those cocktail parties with those old investors, she was called into a private setting by one of them, and her had tried to touch her inappropriately but she had found an excuse to leave that place. Later she was given a drink by a waiter. She'd only take juice as she was only fifteen then. What she didn't know, was that the drink was spiked. That night she taken to one of the directors rooms, and was taken advantage of.
After waking up the next day and realizing what had happened, she went straight to the police station to report the case for the culprit to be arrested. What she didn't know was that her parents had already taken money from the man, in return of having her go over to 'have fun' with her.
She couldn't believe her eyes when she saw her parent defending the culprit and saying that it was the effect of alcohol and that doesn't remember well what happened the night before.
Even when the police woman who was in charge told her that there was not a drop of alcohol found in her system, they insisted that it was a family matter, and that they wanted to go home and solve it. She had no choice but to close the case, because she was a minor.
She could not forget those pitiful eyes of the police woman when she was sending them to the gates of the station. She didn't understand why even an outsider could feel her pain, whereas her biological parents couldn't.
Acacia had always known from when she begun to know right from wrong, that her parent only cared about money and did not care about whether or not she was hurt.
Any time she planned on escaping, Sarah's face would resurface in her mind. She couldn't leave for fear of her parents subjecting the 'naïve' Sarah to the life that she's living now.
Often times when she so wanted to give up, imagine the innocent and naive Sarah call out to her sister sweetly to either come out to eat or to help her with her homework. She was satisfied with the thought that at least her little sister was happy; that she had a better chance of growing up as a happy and healthy young lady that she could be proud of.
Acacia decided to endure for another two years after she turned eighteen. She was going to gather evidence which could prove that her parents were sex trading her to those investors. She was going to make sure to send every one of those scumbags behind bars.
She thought that it didn't matter if her home was destroyed and she was dirtied by those people. She could still pull herself together and at least take good care of Sarah, making sure to protect her from all these vile humans.
What she didn't expect was that on the eve of the day she had planned to take the evidence she had gathered so far to the police, her innocent and weak sister would stand before her heavy makeup and tell her all this was planned by her to ruin her career just to take her place.
She couldn't believe her eyes, but that was Sarah alright, just that the innocent smile had vanished and has been replaced with a vicious smirk she had never seen her wear. How could a sixteen-year-old girl have planned all this. Was she maybe hallucinating or something? She kept asking herself these questions.
Sarah had asked her to come meet her at a location outside of town that night. She had called her crying hysterically, as if someone had wronged her. Knowing that her sweet big sister would definitely fall for this trick, she had spiked a bottle of water before hand and made her drink it after rushing to her side. Of course she'd be thirsty after getting there. She gave her the water to drink first then started talking about unimportant stuff. Acacia kept asking her why she had cried on the phone a while ago, but she kept avoiding the question, until Acacia begun feeling dizzy, then finally falling unconscious on the bed.
She woke up an hour later to find out that she had been tied to the bed by Sarah. She couldn't believe everything that was happening before her eyes.
Sarah smiled sweetly seeing that she had woken up. "You're finally awake, my dearest big sister. You know, I didn't want to do this now. I wanted to sit back and watch the fun more, but I didn't expect that you'd want to put our parents behind bars."
"What do you mean by what you're saying? And why am I tied up to a bed?"
Sarah's expression did not change as she looked at Acacia contemptuously. "You're too stupid and naive, my dearest little sister. I can't believe that you'd think so little of me. You never ever suspected me, and that is the reason why you're in this mess today.
You're planning on putting our parents in jail, right? But from all you've gathered so far, you're missing evidence on that incident from two years ago, I'm I right?
Well, you won't get anything... You know why, because I've destroyed every one of it."
Acacia looked at her with utter shock! "what did you just say?" she asked with redden eyes. That particular incident has always been her sour spot. She'd always be filled with hatred and pain thinking of what she had gone through, and how her parent had helped vindicate the perpetrator.
She had never in her wildest dream thought that Sarah would be behind it. But how?
Looking at how Acacia looked morphed upon hearing the truth made her feel satisfied. This sister of hers had always looked down on her. She'd always tell her what to do, where to go, which course to study. She had always wanted to be in the limelight, just like Acacia when she was young, but she had always said that the entertainment industry was not meant for someone like her!
What did she mean by someone like her?! She had always hated her for this. She kept to herself until she turned ten, that was when she got to know that Acacia was not even blood related. Then she begun hatching a plan to use her parent to ruin Acacia, so she could come out as the new stream after a torrent rain had ruin the surface of the waters.
After all, all her parents cared about was the money. So she only had to spread rumors to those old farts that their parents were selling Acacia off, and that alone gave those wolfs the courage to go forward with their advances, amides threats of the fact that they were owing gambling dens huge amounts of money.
"I was the one who drugged you and contacted director Mark. As long as I started it, our parents would hop onto the wagon, after all they not resist the temptation of the amount of money they'd get from it. Did you even know they were owing gambling debts?
But of course you wouldn't know. Why? Because you only cared about going to the set to either shoot a movie or an ad. They'd always follow you everywhere, while I was left with either relatives of baby sitters.
Have you guys ever thought of how that made me feel?" She was seething with anger as she spat out those words. They didn't know. They didn't know anything!
She did not care about Acacia's broken expression, she smiled sinisterly. "You can't think that I like you, right? You're so stupid, but what right do you have to get everyone's love and admiration? Why do I have to be an ordinary person under your shadow? I hate that you're so high and mighty, so I can only remind my parents to use you for something else."
Acacia's eyes turned red with anger as she glared at the little woman standing above her.
Sarah slowly walked over and used her sharp nails to draw marks on her face. "They didn't want to at first, after all you were their cash cow, and ruining your career meant that their source of income would be cut off. But it didn't take much effort to persuade them. After all, they're not your biological parents."
After saying that, Sarah pretended to let out a soft exclamation as if she had accidentally let it slip, she smiled. "I forgot. You still don't know, right? You seem to have been picked up by my parents from the mountains. Your biological father was pushed down the mountain and fell to his death. My father only brought you back because he saw that you were good-looking."
Acacia was more shocked at what she just heard. It felt as if her brain had been short-circuited. All that Sarah said were like needles stabbing into her brain. But after a few minutes, she begun to calm down.
"Hahaha..." her laughter echoed inside the room. Even the walls could feel how desolate she felt at the moment. It all made sense now.
Acacia's eyes were so cold when she opened then again. "You guys deserve to die for what you've done..."
Sarah increased the strength in her fingers as it drew a bloody mark on acacia's face. "Don't be angry, sister. The fun for tonight hasn't even started yet."
After saying that, she took out a syringe. Looking at the liquid in the syringe, Acacia had a bad feeling about what was going to happen next. This time, Sarah did not hide it at all, she injected it into Acacia's body. "Don't think about struggling anymore... Ow, and one more thing. Your darling little trustee boyfriend was in on this gig. Hahaha, he was ready to exchange you for ten million just when I threatened him with a few compromising photos of the both of us in bed together."
Sarah looked down at her as if she was mocking her for overestimating herself. "Look at you. You're quite valuable. You were born to be sold. Just wait here obediently for the other to come."
Acacia looked up despairingly at Sarah. She felt that her life was a joke. She had been used as a puppet tool for more than ten years by the person who perhaps had a hand in the death of her biological father. She had been framed by her sister who she truly loved and cherished. And lastly she had been betrayed by a coward who couldn't keep it in his pants. Her life in these years has really panned out like a movie, which had her as the female lead.
The medicine gradually took effect. Acacia's heart was entangled with despair and hatred. She had to at least be able to leave this place. Thinking of that, she bit on her tongue to forced herself to be clear-headed. "Who is coming here? How sure are you that the person coming over is a good person?"
Sarah yawned as she listened to her. "Someone will come to take you in a while. Half a billion has already been transferred into my account. Don't worry. You saw it yourself that this place is very hidden. It's fine no matter how big the game is. Those rich second-generation heirs have long been impatient. They've been bidding for you for a long time. The highest bidder must be impatient by now. Anyway, you won't be at a disadvantage, because this time around, he's not an old fogey. Behave well." She left these words and turned for the door.
"Little Brunet, half a billion is indeed not considered a loss. But watch out for karma later... Don't be afraid."
Sarah paused at the door and turned back to look at her. "What am I afraid of? Have you lost your mind?" Then she walked out of the house.
Acacia looked around the room as she watched Sarah close the door. She had to find a way to leave this place. She'd die trying, if she should. She struggled to break free from the ropes that bound her. Ignoring her sore arms, she walked to the door to find it locked. As she had expected. She then walked in the bathroom, only to find out that the windows there had been bugler proofed.
She literarily had nowhere else to go, and the drugs effect was getting worse.
Her only option was a cold shower. Looking at the wine and roses in the tub, she smirked. Sarah really prepared for this half a billion event, didn't she?
Making her lose that money is nothing too, right?
Acacia was never one willing to live in vain. In the past, she only used Sarah and her boyfriend as her mantra, and was willing to fight with all her might to be independent. To be able to fight for them. In the end, she only realized that everything was a conspiracy. She thought that she was reborn from the Nirvana, she did not expect that she had always been in hell.
When Sarah's vicious face appeared in her mind again, Acacia did not even blink, as she ruthlessly sliced her wrists with a knife and submerged herself into the bathtub. It was better to end this life than to go through that ordeal all over again.
What was there to live for anyways, when even those for which she's wanted to live for all this while couldn't wait to get rid of her. She had nothing but hatred as she was losing consciousness as she prayed fervently that her ghost would be back to haunt those scumbags.
Acacia had always felt that even if in this life her parents didn't love her, she had been loved by countless people, so she had lived in the Illusion, that was the only way she could hide away from her parent. She had gotten accustomed to it so much had never truly sobered life. If she could start over, then she'd truly try to live for herself. She would put herself first. If only she could start all over again... it would be great.
