Chapter 1

My husband Kody and I had a huge argument on our way to the hospital, which led to an unexpected accident.

When I opened my eyes again, we were back to the time before we started dating.

In our previous life, we were married for ten years. While our relationship wasn't filled with passion, we treated each other with the utmost respect, like courteous guests.

However, he never wanted to have a child with me.

It was only later that I realized his heart had always been set on his first love.

After being reborn, I decided to let him go.

We quietly erased each other from our lives, kept our distance, and chose different paths.

Seven years later, he became a top financial strategist and proposed to his first love, Daniela, at a class reunion.

Seeing me still single, he couldn't help but mock me.

"Emeline, I know you couldn't let go of me across both lifetimes. After all, I'm quite the catch, but you don't have to hold onto me so tightly."

I didn't respond and simply took my daughter's hand.

Kody's face turned pale, and with eyes filled with anger, he questioned me.

"Didn't you say you'd love me for a lifetime and only want our child?"

...

Once again, I opened my eyes and found myself at a formal club gathering before I started dating Kody.

It was during this event that we first formed a subtle connection.

As I looked at the person across from me, who slowly raised his head to meet my gaze, I realized that we both had been reborn.

In our previous lives, Kody and I were married for ten years without children.

I struggled to maintain the marriage, and although he said he didn't like children, I bore all the family pressure alone because I loved him.

It was only later that I learned he never forgot his first love and that the person he wanted to start a family with was never me.

"Are you two already locking eyes? How's it going? When are you going to invite us to dinner together?"

The teasing voices of our classmates brought me back to reality.

"We're just good friends; don't misunderstand. I added Emeline on WeChat because I needed her help with something, " Kody quickly explained, looking both flustered and awkward. I found his reaction amusing.

"Come on, I remember the way you looked at Emeline before; your eyes were almost sparkling. Why deny it now?"

"Exactly, are you two hiding something from us?"

"That's not fair. You can't keep secrets from us."

I quietly watched the farce unfold. At that time, Kody's first love had just broken up with him and moved abroad.

The teasing continued, and Kody grew impatient.

"I could never see myself with Emeline. How could I possibly like her? Does she even measure up to me?"

His words left everyone in the club stunned.

No one expected him to say something like that, especially since Kody was known for being polite and good-natured.

Everyone turned their gaze to me, eager to see my reaction.

I glanced at them without saying a word and walked away.

Since Kody didn't want any ties with me, there was no need for me to cling to him, especially since I didn't need him in my life.

Our ten-year marriage had been like that, and I wouldn't try to hold on any longer.

Kody sent me a message.

[Since it's come to this, let's live our separate lives and not get entangled.]

We quietly erased each other from our lives and went our separate ways.

I would be lying if I said I wasn't heartbroken. After being with Kody for so many years, claiming I didn't love him would be false.

Back then, when we first got together, he was still shy and wouldn't dare look me in the eye during our dates.

I was the one who initiated our first hand-holding and our first kiss.

I thought he was just innocent and believed I had found an amazing boyfriend, so I married him without hesitation.

How did I eventually discover he hadn't forgotten his ex?

I found a cherished photo of Daniela in his study wallet-a meticulously framed photo of the two of them together.

On the back of the picture, he wrote a message: "The love of my life."

That's when I realized the happiness I thought I had was just a lie.

He probably thought that if it wasn't Daniela, it didn't matter who it was.

I had loved him for ten years, and he had deceived me all along.

After deleting his contact information, I even quit the club, not wanting to see him again.

During that time, we had no contact and never heard any news about each other from mutual friends.

After graduation, I chose to go abroad, and I stayed away for seven years.

Chapter 2

Seven years passed before I saw Kody again at a class reunion.

I had just finished a few design drafts and, feeling too exhausted to dress up, showed up in comfortable casual clothes.

Kody stood amidst the crowd, holding Daniela's hand tightly, soaking up everyone's praise.

"Kody, you really made it! You've only been in England for a few years and already become a top financial strategist! You're truly the pride of East City High!" "Absolutely!

I heard even the British elite pay to dine with Kody. Just the consulting fees alone were nearly hundreds of thousands, which is an entire year's salary for us ordinary folks!"

"Kody, I've been dabbling in stocks lately. Could you, for old times' sake, give me some insider tips?"

Someone in the crowd curiously asked, "Kody, are you planning to propose to Daniela?"

Kody looked at Daniela in his arms with gentle eyes.

Then, under everyone's gaze, he knelt on one knee and pulled a ring box from his pocket.

Inside was a sparkling large diamond ring, akin to what you'd see in celebrity engagements.

"Daniela, I've always loved you. Today, in front of everyone, I hope you'll marry me."

The crowd erupted in cheers.

"Say yes! Say yes!"

Daniela shyly extended her hand, looking at Kody with happiness.

"I will!"

The room filled with applause and congratulations.

An old classmate asked, "Kody, do you still keep in touch with Emeline? You two almost dated back then, and you used to bring her breakfast every day!"

Hearing my name, I noticed Kody's smile freeze momentarily, his expression was a mix of surprise and something unreadable.

Daniela, standing beside him, smiled slightly and answered gracefully.

"Oh, come on, we just got engaged. His youthful antics were immature, as was his love back then. He's long since moved on from Emeline!"

Everyone laughed and continued to praise how well-matched they were.

But I knew that back then, Kody put a lot of effort into bringing me breakfast every day.

He knew I wasn't a morning person and always carefully called me downstairs for breakfast.

His eyes were gentle, "I know you can't wake up early, and I'm not trying to disturb you. I just want you to have breakfast; it's not good for your stomach otherwise."

"I just really like you. If I'm bothering you, just tell me, and I'll change."

I believed him.

But unfortunately, in our past life, he still lied.

With a calm expression, I walked into the banquet hall. A sharp-eyed classmate noticed me.

"Emeline! Why are you so late?"

"Why did you come in casual clothes? You didn't change into something formal."

"Did you just get off work? Where are you working yourself to the bone? We have successful classmates who can help you find a better job, something easier!"

Some around me made sarcastic remarks about my attire.

I didn't mind, smiling and maintaining basic decorum.

From the moment I entered the venue, Kody's gaze never left me.

I politely spoke, "Long time no see."

Kody was slightly stunned, his expression inscrutable, then he sneered, "Emeline, after all these years, you haven't changed. Still as unambitious as ever."

Daniela shot me a sharp glance.

She deliberately clung to Kody's arm, pouting as if asserting her claim, and spoke in a playful tone.

"Kody, how can you speak about an old classmate like that! She may be having a tough time, but we shouldn't hit her where it hurts. Emeline's already had it rough."

She looked me over, her face mocking.

"But Emeline, what's with your outfit? It's neither here nor there... You're not getting any younger. Women should take care of themselves, or they'll find it hard to get married. What man would like a sloppy woman?"

"Do you want me to lend you some makeup?"

Her words barely finished before the classmates couldn't help but laugh.

After all, Daniela was dressed in designer labels from head to toe, her makeup immaculate, exuding the natural elegance of a wealthy heiress.

Meanwhile, I had just left the studio, having spent nearly 24 hours without sleep for my design drafts, looking dead on my feet.

I wore the most comfortable casual sportswear, nothing branded, casually bought from a small street shop, nothing compared to her.

"No need, I don't require it for now." I responded simply, sitting down to eat.

After all, when I'm engrossed in work, I often forget to eat and had not eaten all day.

While savoring the food, Kody suddenly approached and placed a check for 200, 000 in front of me.

"This money is to help you out of consideration for our past. Find a more decent job, buy some new clothes, and learn to love yourself."

"Emeline, the past is the past. Don't dwell on it."

"If it weren't for you... never mind, it's not important."

"The important thing is not to lose all motivation because I left, okay?"

I looked up at Kody, puzzled.

His unfinished words intrigued me. What had I done in my past life to make him abandon me after being reborn?

In our previous life, we went from school uniforms to wedding dresses.

He had his dreams in finance, and I wanted to study fashion design. Both were demanding in time and money.

Naturally, one of us had to sacrifice.

Out of love, I gave up the chance to study in France, started working early, and supported both our dreams with my income.

He failed repeatedly, each time more discouraged and despondent.

I was like an endless power source, always patient in comforting him when I returned home exhausted.

I thought he understood my love.

I didn't expect that when he wanted to invest in stocks again and I refused due to lack of funds, he angrily smashed our photo.

"Do you know? If I had listened to Daniela and gone to study in England with her, I wouldn't be living this miserable life!"

"I wish I had never been with you."

Later, he gave up on strategy analysis, losing his dreams.

And I often cried at night because of his words, "I wish I had never been with you."

But I made one last attempt, holding him gently.

"Kody, I want to have a child with you."

He pushed me away, his eyes filled with indescribable disgust.

"Can we afford to have a child in our financial situation? Besides, I've told you before, I hate kids! I don't want to have a child with you!"

These words shattered my last hope.

On the way to the hospital, a massive truck ended our lives.

At that moment, I felt no fear, only relief.

Now that we've both been reborn, we've chosen to keep our distance. There's no need to hold onto old feelings.

I quietly pushed the check back, "No need, I don't accept things from strangers, thank you."

Chapter 3

He frowned and questioned me, "Emeline, am I a stranger to you? What do you mean by this?"

I replied, "I can buy my own clothes. No matter what my current job is, I find it respectable and not shameful at all. I don't think I'm giving up on myself. You should save this money for someone who needs it."

He stood there with the check in his hand, lips pressed tightly together.

Daniela walked over to Kody's side, glancing at the check in his hand as if she understood something.

Her eyes clearly burned with anger, yet she still feigned a gentle demeanor.

"Emeline, you don't want our goodwill? Then let's offer something more practical."

"I recently opened a nail salon on City Avenue. You can come over directly, and I'll arrange for you to be a nail apprentice. The salary might not be high, but it's still 6000 a month. The main thing is you'll learn a skill, so even if you're at a dead end later, you can open your own nail salon."

"What do you think? Interested in giving it a try? This job should be much more respectable than your current one."

I calmly continued eating my food, declining their generosity.

"Thank you for your kind offer, but I'm satisfied with my job and have no plans to change it at the moment."

Some classmates around me shouted, "Emeline, why don't you appreciate their kindness? Kody and Daniela are being generous, offering you money and a job. You should accept it!"

"Exactly, you're in such a state, why care about pride? Coming to a reunion in such a mess, isn't it to gain some resources? Why pretend now?"

Daniela, with a fake sincerity, chimed in, "Everyone, don't say that! Maybe Emeline really enjoys her current job!"

She turned to me, "Emeline, this is our goodwill, and it's out of our past friendship that I offered you this job. Don't let pride make you miss out on this opportunity!"

I truly couldn't understand why they insisted on forcing money and jobs on me.

"I really don't need it, thank you."

Daniela continued to smile gently, but her eyes were full of mockery and disdain.

Kody clenched the check, sneering coldly.

"You're hopeless, trying to help you is like beating a dead horse! You'll never succeed if you keep this up!"

Following his sarcastic remark, many former male classmates swarmed over, trying to make me drink.

"Emeline, seeing you in such a pitiful state, have a drink, and I'll transfer you 1000."

"If it's really pitiful... I'll add some more money too!"

The men's expressions were lecherous, and my classmates laughed, with no one coming to my aid.

I frowned, feeling this reunion was far different from what I had imagined. If I weren't waiting for someone, I would have already left in disgust.

Just as I was about to call for security, Kody suddenly stubbed out his cigarette and grabbed the arm of the man harassing me.

His gaze was icy, full of anger. "Behave yourself."

The man's arm was gripped so tightly that he cried out in pain.

Daniela tugged at Kody's sleeve.

"Kody, what are you doing!"

His face remained cold. "Being a good Samaritan. This is a reunion, not a place for you to act out."

With that, he released the man, who dared not confront him but shot me a vicious look.

I couldn't help but glance at Kody, surprised that he would actually help me.

Daniela was biting her back teeth to pieces, yet she smiled and said, "I heard the little princess and the president of a prestigious multinational corporation are having a meeting upstairs. Maybe we'll get lucky and see the richest man in East City!"

Upon hearing this, my classmates became excited.

The richest man in East City, handsome and wealthy, is said to be only in his thirties and already has a five-year-old child, but his wife has never been revealed.

"Do we have a chance to see his wife today? I must post this on TikTok!"

"This is a scoop!"

Soon, a group of bodyguards escorted a little princess into the banquet hall, causing a stir among the crowd.

"With such an entourage, she must be the little princess of the richest man in East City! She's really impressive!"

The male classmate who had just harassed me, despite being beaten, had no complaints and only dared to act crazy in front of me.

"Emeline, if it weren't for Daniela, people like you working a dead-end job would never get to meet the little princess of the richest man in East City! If I were you, I'd kneel down and apologize to her right now, thank her properly! Maybe you'll not only get a good job but also marry someone like me, earning 6000 a month."

Ridiculous.

I ignored him, calmly watching the little princess.

Everyone eagerly approached, phones in hand, trying to snap pictures and record videos of her.

Even the usually aloof Daniela walked towards the little princess with a friendly, almost obsequious smile.

"Little one, is there anything you'd like to eat? I'll treat you."

As she spoke, she attempted to pinch the little princess's cheek.

But to everyone's surprise, the little girl, surrounded by bodyguards, ignored the adults around her and walked straight towards me.

She smiled sweetly and threw herself into my arms, "Mommy, you're finally here-"

The little princess, who had been cold-faced, now looked at me with a pitiful expression.

"Why didn't you come home yesterday? I missed you so much!"

I embraced my daughter, who had run over, and comforted her softly.

"Mommy was working, remember I told you yesterday when I left? Tomorrow, mommy's on vacation, and I'll take you out to play, okay?"

My precious daughter, Ximena, nodded quickly, "Okay! Mommy is the best."

All the classmates present were stunned, looking at me with disbelief.

Just as they were about to speak, a handsome man in a suit hurriedly descended from the upstairs meeting room.

"Wife, the hotel manager told me you were here for a class reunion. Why didn't you tell me when you got off work? I could have picked you up!"

The hotel manager stood by, introducing to the crowd who were all wide-eyed in shock.

"This is our prestigious multinational corporation's president, Domenic Su, Mr. Su, and Mrs. Emeline's husband. If any of you have any requests during your meal, feel free to ask me. We'll do our best to accommodate Mrs. Emeline's old classmates and extend our hospitality."

The expressions of the classmates varied, some becoming extremely excited, while those who had just insulted me turned deathly pale.

A few female classmates, who were on good terms with me, couldn't help but speak up.

"Emeline, is your husband really the richest man in East City, Domenic Su?"

"Isn't it obvious? Didn't you see the hotel manager calling her Mrs. Emeline, and the little princess calling her mommy? She must be the wife of the richest man, who has never been revealed publicly!"

"Wow, this is true nobility... "

Amidst the murmurs of my classmates, I could only smile in response.

Domenic, standing beside me, looked me over with concern, gently pulling me into his arms.

"Just got back from the studio again? After the reunion, make sure to rest well at home."

I nodded and said, "Okay."

Then, this seemingly aloof man ignored Daniela's attempts to approach him and fixed his gaze on Kody, speaking with disdain.

"Who are you? Why are you giving my wife a check out of nowhere?"

"Do any random people think they can make a mark in front of my wife?"

"Is this little bit of money meant to embarrass you?"

Faced with Domenic's sarcasm, Kody showed no reaction, instead looking at me with a complex expression, as if on the verge of a breakdown. He demanded, "Emeline, is this your way of punishing me?"

"How much did you pay to hire these two actors?"

I set my son down and took Domenic's hand, "This is my husband, Domenic Su."

Kody's face shifted from disbelief to shock, then to a deathly pale silence.
