Reborn With A Vow: Never His Again

Author: : Jillian Chinnici
Genre: Billionaires
The lights of the press conference should have been the shining start to Sarah Miller's new life as Rick Harrison's fiancée. Instead, a searing memory ripped through her mind: the cold muzzle of a gun pressed to her temple, three deafening explosions, and Rick screaming accusations before she bled out on his penthouse floor. He was supposed to be beside her, but Rick was already across the room, on one knee, proposing to Tiffany Hayes – his goddaughter, his secret lover, the very woman for whom he'd murdered Sarah in their previous life. The room erupted, not with applause, but confused murmurs, which quickly turned to snickers and open mockery as Rick declared her pathetic, desperate, and nothing without him, abandoning her at the podium. His words, once capable of shattering her, now registered as mere noise. This wasn't humiliation; this was a second chance. An unshakeable vow echoed in her reborn soul: "If I get another chance, I will never love Rick Harrison again." With a newfound calm that felt alien yet profoundly right, Sarah reached for the abandoned microphone. "Actually, Rick," her voice was steady, "I was about to make an announcement of my own." What followed shocked everyone: a public resignation, a chilling call to his biggest rival's CEO, and a daring acceptance of both a Chief Strategy Officer role and a personal proposition that would rewrite not just her future, but Rick Harrison' s entire empire. What did Sarah say that day, and how will she use her second chance to reclaim her destiny, and perhaps, destroy the man who became her murderer?

Introduction

An unshakeable vow echoed in her reborn soul: "If I get another chance, I will never love Rick Harrison again."

With a newfound calm that felt alien yet profoundly right, Sarah reached for the abandoned microphone.

"Actually, Rick," her voice was steady, "I was about to make an announcement of my own."

What followed shocked everyone: a public resignation, a chilling call to his biggest rival's CEO, and a daring acceptance of both a Chief Strategy Officer role and a personal proposition that would rewrite not just her future, but Rick Harrison' s entire empire.

What did Sarah say that day, and how will she use her second chance to reclaim her destiny, and perhaps, destroy the man who became her murderer?

Chapter 1

The lights were blinding, a searing white that pierced through the fog in Sarah Miller' s mind.

A microphone stood before her.

Rick Harrison, her boss, the CEO of Innovatech Solutions, was supposed to be beside her, his hand on her back.

This was the press conference. Their engagement announcement.

But the memory that slammed into her wasn't of an engagement.

It was of cold metal against her temple, three distinct, deafening explosions.

Rick' s face, contorted not with love, but with a chilling rage.

"You drove Tiffany to this!" he' d screamed, his voice raw.

Tiffany Hayes, his goddaughter, his secret lover.

Sarah remembered the blood, warm and sticky, pooling beneath her.

The penthouse floor, cold against her dying cheek.

Her last vow, a whisper torn from her soul: "If I get another chance... I will never love Rick Harrison again."

She blinked. The lights remained. The expectant hush of the room pressed in.

She was alive. Reborn.

A gasp rippled through the assembled tech press and VIPs.

Sarah turned. Rick was no longer beside her.

He stood a few feet away, his back to her, his gaze fixed on the audience.

He, too, remembered. She saw it in the sudden, sharp intake of his breath, the way his shoulders tensed.

Then his eyes found Tiffany in the crowd.

Tiffany, looking artfully distressed, a single tear tracing a perfect path down her cheek – just as they' d planned in the other life, a cue for Rick to "rescue" her from the supposed pressure of his engagement to Sarah.

Rick moved.

Not towards Sarah.

He strode towards Tiffany, his charismatic smile, the one that had once made Sarah' s heart ache, now firmly in place.

He reached Tiffany, took her hand, and knelt.

"Tiffany, my love," Rick' s voice boomed, amplified by the room's speakers. "I can't do this. I can't pretend anymore. It's always been you."

He pulled a ring box from his pocket – not the one intended for Sarah, but a different, gaudier one.

"Will you marry me, Tiffany? I'll shield you from all the vicious rumors, all the societal judgment. I love you."

Tiffany' s feigned shock was a masterpiece of manipulation.

She nodded, tears of "joy" streaming.

The room erupted, not in applause for an engagement, but in confused murmurs, then outright gasps of disbelief.

Chapter 2

The murmurs turned to snickers, then open mockery directed at Sarah, still standing alone at the podium.

"Well, that was unexpected."

"Poor Sarah Miller, jilted at her own engagement."

"Always knew she was desperate for him."

Tiffany, now on her feet, clinging to Rick' s arm, looked towards Sarah with an expression of saccharine concern.

"Oh, Rick," Tiffany simpered, her voice just loud enough to carry. "Sarah's been by your side for so long... This is terribly cruel to her, isn't it?"

Rick turned, his eyes, which Sarah now recognized held no genuine warmth for her, only calculation, swept over Sarah with contempt.

"Cruel?" he scoffed. "Sarah knew the score. She' s a pathetic, desperate social climber. All those years, all those sacrifices she claims she made? That was her own doing, trying to trap me. I owe her nothing."

The words, so similar to accusations he' d hurled in their past life, no longer cut Sarah.

They were just...noise.

With a newfound calm that felt alien yet deeply right, Sarah reached for the microphone Rick had abandoned.

Her voice was steady, clear.

"Actually, Rick, I was about to make an announcement of my own."

All eyes snapped to her.

"I was going to publicly decline your proposal."

A beat of stunned silence.

"And announce my resignation from Innovatech Solutions, effective immediately."

Rick' s face purpled. "Sour grapes, Sarah? Playing hard to get now that I've chosen Tiffany? It' s a pathetic display."

Someone in the crowd yelled, "She' s just trying to save face!"

Rick stalked towards her. "Stop this degrading charade, Sarah. You' re embarrassing yourself."

He reached her, his face inches from hers, his voice a low snarl.

He shoved her, hard. "Don't you dare try to ruin this for me and Tiffany."

Sarah stumbled back a step but held her ground. The physical assault was a pale echo of the bullets.
