Chapter 1 1

Tessa's POV

The house, once filled with laughter and love, now felt cold and empty. I sat on the edge of the bed, my hands resting in my lap, staring at the untouched breakfast Ian had prepared earlier. It was a typical gesture, something I'd once appreciated, but now it felt like a hollow offering.

My heart was heavy with confusion, frustration, and a gnawing sense of something I couldn't name. It wasn't always like this. Ian and I were once inseparable. We'd been mates since we were children, our bond undeniable. The mating ceremony had been a joyous occasion, filled with promises of forever. So, what had happened?

The bond we once shared now felt like a distant memory, fading with each passing day. There was a wall between us, invisible yet so thick that it felt as though we were strangers. Our conversations had become short, clipped. His smiles no longer reached his eyes, and I no longer recognized the man who used to be my world.

I rubbed my growing belly absentmindedly. It had been weeks since I'd discovered I was pregnant. I had hoped, prayed that this would bring us back together. But instead, every attempt to reconnect had been met with silence, indifference, or subtle withdrawal. I was no longer sure if he was even capable of loving me.

The sound of footsteps approached, pulling me from my thoughts. I looked up as the door opened, and Ian walked in. His expression was unreadable, his eyes cold. He was the Alpha-strong, confident, and seemingly impervious to the emotions that tore at me. He smiled, but it was forced, like he was doing it out of obligation.

"I made breakfast," he said, the words too smooth, too rehearsed.

"I'm not hungry," I replied, my voice barely above a whisper. The words sounded strange even to me. It had been so long since I'd spoken to him without the bitterness in my tone.

He frowned but didn't say anything further. Instead, he moved toward the window, pulling the curtains shut with a flick of his wrist. The house grew even darker, more suffocating. He turned, and for the first time in what felt like an eternity, his gaze softened, but only slightly.

"I'll be busy today," Ian said, glancing at the door. His eyes never quite met mine. "You should rest."

"Rest?" I echoed, a bitter laugh escaping my lips. "You've been telling me to rest for weeks now, Ian. What do you think I've been doing?" My frustration bubbled to the surface, the weight of it pressing down on my chest.

Ian stiffened at my words. His jaw clenched, but he didn't respond. A tense silence stretched between us, the weight of unspoken words hanging in the air like smoke. I wanted to shout, to scream at him, but all I could manage was a hollow, aching silence.

"You should get some fresh air," he muttered, his gaze flicking briefly to my swollen belly. "It might help."

He turned and left without another word, leaving me to stare at the empty door for what felt like an eternity. The cold emptiness of his words echoed in my mind.

I stood up slowly, my hand still resting on my belly. What was happening to us? To me? The joy I once felt about becoming a mother had turned into a gnawing dread, a dread that something was wrong- something I couldn't name. And every time I tried to reach out to Ian, the distance between us grew.

I walked to the window and gazed out into the pack territory, my heart sinking with each passing moment. The trees stood tall, their branches swaying gently in the breeze, but even their peaceful presence couldn't soothe the turmoil inside me.

Then, I heard it- a soft murmur from outside, a laugh. It was familiar, too familiar.

I froze. The sound wasn't coming from Ian. It was coming from the direction of the pack house. It was Rita's voice.

Rita? What was she doing here? She was my twin sister, someone I'd always trusted, someone I'd loved dearly. But there had been a strange tension between us lately, something I couldn't put my finger on. I tried to ignore the creeping unease that settled in my stomach as I peered through the curtains.

What I saw made my blood run cold.

Ian and Rita stood outside, close to each other, their bodies leaning in, their faces inches apart. Her hand was on his arm, her laughter soft and flirtatious. My breath caught in my throat. This couldn't be happening. They couldn't- no. They weren't... But they were.

The shock hit me like a punch to the gut, and I staggered back from the window. My vision blurred, my heart hammering in my chest. I should've known, should've seen the signs. The way Ian had withdrawn from me, the way Rita had been spending more time with him, always offering subtle smiles, the way they'd been close-closer than siblings should be. It had all been leading to this moment, and I had been too blind to notice.

Tears burned in my eyes, but I refused to let them fall. No. I wouldn't cry. I couldn't cry. Not for him. Not for this betrayal.

A sense of numbness settled over me as I turned away from the window, my heart cracking under the weight of it. I stumbled toward the bedroom door, my body shaking with the overwhelming flood of emotions. I needed to get away. I needed to leave.

My legs felt like lead, but I pushed through, rushing out into the hallway, my breath shallow and fast. My mind was clouded with rage, heartbreak, and disbelief. How could they? How could Ian, the man I loved, the man who had sworn to protect me, betray me like this? And how could Rita, my twin, my sister, do this to me?

I burst out of the house, my feet carrying me faster than I could think. I needed to get to the forest, to find some semblance of peace. The world around me blurred, my focus narrowing only on the sound of my heartbeat pounding in my ears.

The forest was just ahead. The trees seemed to open up, offering me a temporary sanctuary, a place where I could lose myself. I staggered into the clearing, my body trembling with the weight of my emotions. I had no idea how much time passed, but I couldn't stop the tears anymore. They came, flooding down my face like a river breaking free from its dam.

And that's when I felt it. The sharp, searing pain in my chest. The ache that had been growing since the moment I saw them together. The realization hit me like a tidal wave. My body couldn't take the strain, couldn't take the betrayal, the loss.

I collapsed onto the ground, clutching my belly, gasping for air. The pain was too much. My vision swam, and I felt myself slipping away.

Ian... I thought, one final, desperate plea for the man I once loved.

But the darkness was already claiming me, wrapping around my mind, pulling me under. My last thought was a single, desperate prayer: Please... I need revenge. I need to make them pay for this.

Tessa's POV

I awoke to a strange warmth, a softness beneath me that felt both foreign and familiar. My body felt lighter, different somehow. I blinked against the light, the sunlight filtering through the trees, casting dappled shadows on the ground.

The air was thick with the scent of pine and earth, and for a moment, I was disoriented. Where was I? What had happened?

I sat up slowly, my hands shaking as I pushed myself to my feet. The clearing I stood in was unfamiliar. The trees stretched high above, their branches heavy with the weight of ancient secrets. I took a deep breath, the scent of the forest filling my lungs.

It felt like I had been here before. Or maybe... maybe I had been here in another life.

The memory of the betrayal, the pain, the heartbreak flooded back. I gasped, stumbling backward as realization hit me like a thunderclap. I wasn't dead. I wasn't gone. But I was here- somewhere else, somewhere new.

The moon goddess had answered my plea. I was reborn. And I would make Ian and Rita pay for what they had done.

Chapter 2 2

Tessa's POV

The forest felt alive around me, its ancient trees whispering secrets in the wind. The scent of pine, moss, and earth filled my senses, grounding me as I tried to make sense of what had just happened. I had died. The betrayal, the heartbreak, the loss- I had died, and yet here I was, standing in the middle of a clearing, breathing the crisp air, feeling the rush of life through my veins. It was impossible, but somehow, it was real.

I glanced down at my hands. They were the same, but different. The skin felt softer, smoother than I remembered, and yet there was a strength within them, a power I hadn't known existed. A strange sensation coursed through me, as if I were tethered to something greater than myself. My heartbeat was steady, the rhythm of my life flowing with an intensity I hadn't felt in years.

My breath caught in my chest. The Moon Goddess. It was her doing, I knew it. She had answered my plea for vengeance, had granted me a second chance at life, a chance to make things right, to rewrite the ending of my story. But that wasn't enough. Not anymore.

I clenched my fists, the fire of anger flaring up inside me. Ian and Rita would pay for what they had done. They had betrayed me in the worst way possible, and now I would make them feel every ounce of the pain they had caused. They had stolen my trust, my love, and my future. And now, I would take everything from them.

The world around me seemed to pulse with my anger, as if it recognized the fury building within me. I could feel the connection to the pack, the distant pull of their presence, the faint echo of their emotions. It was all so overwhelming, so new. But that was not my focus right now. I needed to find a way back to the pack, back to Ian. I needed to face him, to make him understand the consequences of his betrayal.

I took a steadying breath and began to walk through the forest, my mind racing. The sound of my footsteps was soft against the earth, almost drowned out by the rustling of the leaves. The trees seemed to bend around me, parting to give me a clear path forward, as though the forest itself was guiding me toward my destiny.

Hours passed before I emerged from the dense woods, the trees thinning as I approached the edge of the pack's territory. I could sense the presence of other wolves nearby, their emotions swirling around me like a cloud of uncertainty. My body tensed, the Alpha's call in the distance sending a shiver down my spine. Ian. He was close.

The sound of rushing water drew my attention. A river ran through the outskirts of the pack's land, its current swift and strong, reflecting the coldness in my chest. I followed the sound until I reached the bank, where I paused to take in the sight of the river, its waters glistening in the fading light of day.

I bent down, my reflection staring back at me from the surface of the river. My face was the same, but there was something different about the way I looked. My eyes had changed. They were darker now, more intense, and there was a glint in them that I hadn't seen before. A promise of something dangerous, something powerful.

"Do you know what you've done?" I whispered to my reflection, my voice steady despite the turmoil swirling inside me. The pain, the betrayal, the loss- it was still there, but now it was tempered by something else. Something stronger.

The sound of footsteps approaching broke my moment of introspection, and I looked up, my heart skipping a beat. There, standing at the edge of the clearing, was a figure I hadn't expected to see. A man. A wolf.

He was tall, his posture commanding, and his gaze was locked onto mine. His dark hair ruffled in the wind, and the air around him seemed to crackle with energy. His presence was undeniable.

"You shouldn't be here." His voice was deep, almost a growl, and it sent a chill down my spine.

Alpha. The word echoed in my mind, though it didn't quite fit. This man wasn't part of my pack, but I could feel the weight of his status, the strength that radiated from him. He was someone important, someone powerful.

"I'm not here to cause trouble," I said, standing up straight, meeting his gaze. "I'm just passing through."

He didn't move, his eyes narrowing as he assessed me. "Who are you?"

I hesitated. My name was Tessa Urg, but that felt like a lifetime ago. I had been Tessa, the Omega wolf, the broken mate. That woman had died, leaving only the hunger for vengeance in her wake.

"Tessa," I finally said, though the name felt foreign on my tongue. "Tessa Urg."

The man's expression shifted, his eyes flickering with recognition. "Urg? You're one of them?"

One of them. His words stung, but I didn't let it show. "I'm not here to explain myself. I'm here for a reason."

He stepped closer, his presence overwhelming. "And what reason would that be?"

"I need answers," I said, my voice steady despite the storm raging inside me. "I need to find Ian Makenzie."

His eyes hardened at the mention of Ian's name. "What business do you have with the Alpha?"

"I'm his mate," I replied, the words coming out sharp, a bitter truth that I no longer cared to hide. "Or I was."

He studied me for a long moment, the tension between us thickening with every passing second. Finally, he spoke, his voice softer but no less commanding. "You're not welcome here."

"I'm not here to make trouble," I repeated, my voice low but firm. "I'm here to take back what's mine."

A flicker of understanding crossed his face, but he still didn't move. "You're not in the position to demand anything from the Alpha. You don't know what you're walking into."

"I know enough," I snapped, my anger flaring. "I know that Ian and Rita-"

"Enough," he interrupted, his tone suddenly sharp. "You don't want to go down that road."

His words only fueled the fire inside me, but I held back, resisting the urge to lash out. The last thing I needed was to get into a fight with a stranger, no matter how powerful he was.

"I'm not leaving until I've spoken to Ian," I said, my voice resolute. "And nothing you say will stop me."

The man didn't respond immediately, his eyes scanning me as if trying to assess whether I was a threat. After a long pause, he nodded once, almost reluctantly.

"Then follow me," he said, turning and beginning to walk away. "But don't say I didn't warn you."

I didn't hesitate. I followed him, my heart pounding in my chest as we made our way deeper into the pack's territory. The weight of the moment settled over me like a cloak, the tension in the air thick with unspoken words and emotions.

We walked in silence, the sounds of the forest surrounding us. But all I could think about was Ian. What had happened to him? What had happened to us?

The journey felt long, each step bringing me closer to the confrontation I had been avoiding for so long. The closer we got, the more I could feel the Alpha's presence, the pull of his power. The pack.

Finally, we reached a clearing, and there he was. Ian.

His back was to me, but I could feel his tension, the way he stood rigid, as though waiting for something. Or someone. The man who had been my mate. The man who had betrayed me.

I took a deep breath, preparing myself for the storm that was about to unfold. There was no turning back now. The Moon Goddess had granted me this second chance, and I would make the most of it.

"Ian," I said, my voice cutting through the silence like a blade.

He turned slowly, his eyes locking onto mine, his expression unreadable. His gaze flickered with surprise, and then, to my horror, a flicker of something else. Guilt.

But it wasn't enough. It would never be enough.

"You," I whispered, my heart racing. "You have no idea what you've done."

Chapter 3 3

Tessa's POV

Ian's gaze locked onto mine, but there was no warmth, no recognition of the bond we had once shared. Instead, there was a flicker of something darker, something I couldn't quite place-fear, maybe, or guilt. The Alpha mask he had so carefully crafted over the years was slipping. The man I had once called my mate was standing before me, and yet, he felt like a stranger.

The weight of everything I had lost pressed down on me. The life we could've had, the future he had stolen from me, it all seemed so distant now, a mere shadow of the reality I had once believed in. I had loved him with everything I had, and he had crushed me. The betrayal still burned in my chest, raw and unforgiving.

"I... Tessa." Ian's voice cracked, an unspoken apology hanging in the air between us, but it meant nothing. His remorse didn't erase the pain.

"You don't get to say my name like that," I replied, my voice sharp. "You lost that privilege the moment you betrayed me."

He flinched, the subtle movement enough to let me know I had struck a nerve. The anger inside me flared, but I tamped it down, knowing I needed control. I would make him see what his actions had cost him.

My eyes narrowed, and I took a step closer to him, my body tense, every fiber of my being focused on him. "Tell me, Ian," I continued, my voice low and dangerous, "what did Rita offer you that I couldn't? What made you betray me for her? For my sister?"

The question hung in the air, the words sharp like knives. Ian's expression shifted, something flickering behind his eyes-guilt, regret, confusion. But there was no sorrow in his eyes for what he had done to me. There was no understanding of the devastation he had caused. He had never truly understood.

"I-" He stumbled over his words, but I didn't let him finish.

"You don't get to explain yourself," I cut him off, my tone laced with venom. "Nothing you say can make this better. Nothing."

I could feel the strength of the bond we had once shared, the tether between us, but it felt faint, like a memory fading with each passing moment. The love I had once felt for him was fading, replaced with the cold weight of betrayal and a hunger for justice. He had torn apart everything we could have been, everything I had trusted, and in return, I would tear down everything he had built.

"Please," Ian said, his voice soft now, the mask of the Alpha slipping further. "Tessa, I never meant for this to happen. It wasn't supposed to be like this."

His words hit me like a slap, the false sorrow stinging more than I could have imagined. He wasn't sorry for me. He wasn't sorry for how I had suffered. He was sorry for himself, sorry that he was being forced to face the consequences of his actions.

I took another step forward, my eyes never leaving his. "You never meant for this to happen?" I laughed bitterly, the sound harsh in the quiet night. "No, Ian, you made your choice. You chose Rita. You chose to betray me. And you'll pay for that choice."

My words felt like poison in the air, and yet, they didn't feel like enough. I had died once, and in that death, I had been granted a chance at vengeance. The Moon Goddess had answered my plea, had given me a second chance at life. I couldn't waste it on weak words and empty threats. I needed action.

Ian reached out, as if to touch me, but I stepped back, putting distance between us. My heart was heavy, but there was a new strength inside me, one that told me not to fall into his traps. I wouldn't let him manipulate me again.

"I didn't want to hurt you," Ian said, his voice cracking. "You have to believe me."

I shook my head, my lips pressed into a thin line. "I don't have to believe anything you say. You hurt me. You destroyed everything."

The silence between us grew thick, suffocating. The wind rustled through the trees, carrying the scent of the forest, but it did nothing to calm the storm raging inside me. The sight of him, standing there with that pitiful look in his eyes, only made the fire inside me burn hotter.

"You should've never betrayed me, Ian. You should've never chosen her." The words burned my throat, but I didn't hold them back. "Now, you'll face the consequences. You'll regret every moment of it."

I turned away from him, unwilling to see the sorrow in his eyes any longer. The ache in my chest, the emptiness where love had once lived, threatened to swallow me whole. But I couldn't let it. Not now. Not when I had come this far.

"Where are you going?" Ian's voice cracked, desperation creeping into his tone.

"I'm done with you," I replied without looking back. "I have nothing left to say to you."

I began walking away, each step taking me further from the man I had once called my mate. The man who had been the center of my world, and now, was nothing but a shadow.

The sound of Ian's footsteps echoed behind me, but I didn't turn around. I could feel the weight of his gaze on my back, but it no longer mattered. Nothing he said or did could change what had happened. He had lost me, and I wasn't going back.

"Wait!" Ian's voice rang out, desperation clear in his tone. "Tessa, please. Don't leave me like this. I-I need you. I can't do this without you."

The words struck me like a blow, and for a moment, I faltered. The old part of me-the part that had loved him-wanted to look back, wanted to take him in my arms and forgive him. But that part of me was dead. The Tessa he had known was gone, replaced by someone stronger, someone determined to seek justice.

I kept walking, my footsteps steady and sure. "You should've thought of that before you betrayed me, Ian."

The forest seemed to close in around me as I walked deeper into its depths, the path growing darker with each step. The moonlight filtered through the trees, casting long shadows on the ground.

I could hear the distant sound of a river, the same river I had crossed earlier. It was a symbol of the divide between the past and the present, between who I had been and who I was becoming. The woman I had been-weak, trusting, naive-was gone. In her place was a woman who would never let herself be betrayed again.

I stopped at the river's edge, staring into the water. The reflection staring back at me was no longer the same. My eyes were darker, filled with an intensity I hadn't known before. I could see the power growing within me, could feel it building, waiting to be unleashed.

I wasn't sure what I was anymore. The lines between who I had been and who I was becoming were blurring, but I knew one thing for certain-I would never allow myself to be broken again.

I had been given a second chance, and I would make it count. Ian had made his choice, and now it was my turn to choose. My vengeance would be swift and sure. There would be no mercy for those who had wronged me.

A rustle in the bushes behind me caught my attention, and I turned around, my heart racing. The figure that emerged from the shadows wasn't Ian. It wasn't anyone I recognized at first. But then, as the moonlight hit his face, I saw the familiar features-the sharp jawline, the piercing blue eyes.

It was him. The man who had been following me since the moment I had stepped into this world. The man who seemed to know more about me than I did.

"Who are you?" I demanded, my voice icy. "Why are you following me?"

The man stepped forward, his movements slow and deliberate, the confidence in his posture unmistakable. He was powerful-too powerful to be a mere stranger.

"I'm here to offer you a deal," he said, his voice smooth and measured. "And I suggest you listen."

I studied him for a moment, the flicker of suspicion in my mind growing stronger. What could he possibly want from me? And what kind of deal was he offering?

"I'm not interested in anything you have to say," I replied, my stance defensive.

The man smiled, a sharp, calculating smile that didn't reach his eyes. "You will be. You'll see soon enough."
