Chapter 1 Betrayed by Love

Aria's POV

*******************

I'm standing in the middle of the club, but not to dance. I'm standing here because my husband wants to sell me to the club.

Moments ago.

"I still don't understand why we are here, babe," I whisper to Rafael. Raising my head to look at my husband.

Tightening my grip on his arm, my heels clicking against the polished marble floors as we passed through different people.

"I just don't belong here," I whisper to myself.

The loud music pounds through my chest, a deep, banging beast that drowns my whole thoughts. The club is alive with flashing lights.

The Scent of expensive perfume and desperation is unmistakable on their faces.

"Just trust me, my love," he said. Squeezing my fingers with his for a little moment. I want to believe him, but something about this doesn't feel right.

But I do love him so much and I trust that he would never do anything to harm me. Rafael wasn't the type of husband who always took me out to have fun.

We didn't have the money anyway, with bills piling up every day for us. It wasn't an easy life, but at least we had each other.

When he told me to dress up tonight, I did. At least I was very happy that after a long while, we could finally go out and have fun as we both deserved to.

We entered into a private lounge called the VIP section. The scent of expensive whiskey immediately fills our noses.

But also something darker that makes my skin prickle. Rafael tightens his grip on my hands as he leads me to the posh, black leather seats, guiding me to sit down with a gentleness that makes things feel even worse.

A man was sitting across from us, a large cigarette dangling between his fingers. His suit is quite expensive, his dark eyes piercing my direction as they settle on me.

He looked like the guy who ran things around here- someone who took things he wanted by any means necessary.

I shift in my seat, coldness creeping into my skin despite the heat of the club.

"She's even more beautiful in person."

"She would be perfect."

The man says, exhaling the smoke through his large nostrils.

My gaze immediately shifts to Rafael, who is already looking at the man, nodding to him with a sly smirk forming on his lips.

My heart stops for a moment looking at this.

"What....what's happening, babe?"

"Who is perfect for what?"

But he doesn't even answer me.

"You see that she is worth more than we discussed." Rafael continues his conversation smoothly as if he is negotiating a business deal.

I just sit there, staring at him, waiting for an answer, for him to say this is nothing more than a cruel joke, that it's not real.

"Babe wouldn't cause me any harm.

He wouldn't.

No...no, I can't.

"Rafael?" My voice barely whispers.

"What are the both of you talking about?"

His eyes meet mine, and for the first time in all the years we have been married, I finally see him for who he truly is.

Not my husband

Not the love of my life

There is no love, no sympathy, or care for me.

Only calculating, cold.

Ruthless greed.

"I'm sorry babe, but I have to do this for me."

I'm tired of being poor, I need all the money and power I can get."

"And if I have to sacrifice you, I will do that." He shot back.

"You said you loved me." My voice shakes as I plead with him.

I force the words out even as my throat tightens, betrayal digging its claws deep into my bones.

"I do love you."

"But love won't give me all the money and power I need." He shoots back.

The man across us chuckles, a wicked sinister smirk curling from his lips.

Suddenly a hand grabs my thigh, squeezing it so hard that it leaves a mark on my skin.

"No," I gasp, struggling to escape his tight grip. But Rafael's hands immediately grab my waist, holding me down like a goat that is about to be slaughtered.

"Babe please!"

"Please don't do this to me!"

"Try to make this easy for me if you love me, babe."

"Can't you do such a little thing for me?"

He whispers to me, raising my chin to look at his face one last time. His voice is gentle, almost affectionate.

One of the things that made me fall deeply in love with him was his eyes were nothing but empty.

It carried no emotions.

It's a struggle as I claw to fight back, to try to escape this hell hole, I wasn't supposed to meet this type of fate.

But there are too many hands already on me as more men enter the private room- pulling me to the floor and restraining me from moving.

I scream for someone to help me, but it's useless.

"The room is soundproof, sweetheart; no one will hear you scream." The man says, laughing mockingly to my face.

All I can hear is my desperate breathing, and the loud music in the room pounding heavily in my ears.

This was terror in human form, the end for me.

I had no other choice but to accept what would come after this, I didn't even know if I would ever survive this.

But what hurt me more than this, piercing like a knife deep inside my chest was the betrayal that came from the man I could do anything for.

Pain.

A sudden, sharp burst of pain was the next thing that I felt as a knife pressed into my heart.

Hot and blinding pain that had no mercy.

I choke on my screams, but a hand forcefully covers my mouth.

The knife found itself repeatedly in my chest over and over again without any human sympathy.

I collapse, my vision fading.

Everywhere darkened around me as the world seemed to disappear.

Rafael's face is the last thing I see before everything fades into nothing.

His cold dark eyes.

Unmoved.

Chapter 2 Second Chance at Life

Selena's POV

**********************

"Selena?"

"You're.....finally awake?"

She said, her voice trembling as she looked at me in utmost shock.

Selena.

That name rings in my ears.

It sounds..new, and empty.

I wake up gasping for air. A sharp desperate inhale of air burns down my throat like fire.

My lungs are aching as if I haven't used them for a lifetime. The beeping machines pierced through my ears.

Each of them hammering against my throbbing skull. My whole body feels like it has been useless for a long time, it felt.. unfamiliar to me.

Like I didn't really own this body.

"Where am I?"

I asked. Parting my lips to barely speak, my voice barely a whisper.

"Oh my God." A soft gasp was heard beside me. Then the sound of a chair scraping against the floor.

The lights above me are too bright as I turn my head, sluggishly trying to look at the woman staying beside me, but the lights are too bright they almost blind me.

I tried to move, but something shifted in my arm, I shook in absolute panic only to realize that it was just an IV drip.

A woman with wavy brown hair and piercing Hazel eyes pierced through me in shock, her hands pressed against her mouth.

Something feels familiar about her, but I...I can't really place it.

"You're at the hospital Selena."

"You have been in a coma."

"You've been in a coma for six months Selena, after the terrible accident you had."

I mean....

Selena.

"You were declared brain dead."

"We weren't even sure you would ever wake up again."

"It was a decision to either disconnect you from life support or just go keep hoping that you would eventually wake up."

She says, holding my hands tightly as tears streamed down her cheeks.

"It's....It's Vivianne. Your sister."

A coma?

"How did I even get into a coma in the first place?"

I'm confused about all this!" I yelled.

"How did the accident even happen?"

My head pounds, little pieces of memories attempting to come to life, but there is nothing but darkness. An empty space where there should be something.

Anything at least.

"I don't....I don't remember." I said. The words dying in my throat before I could completely voice them out.

Trying to pull away, but my limbs betrayed me, feeling too weak to even lift me.

"It's okay if you don't remember anything for now, sis."

Vivianne says, touching my hands gently.

"Don't push hard Selena, the doctors said that this had a chance of happening if you eventually made it alive from your coma."

"You have no idea how happy I am that you are finally awake."

"Damien would be so happy to hear this."

"Let me call him quickly to give him the news."

She said, getting up to excuse herself from the room to make a call.

"Who....who was Damien?"

Her comforting words don't even begin to cover up for how I feel right now. My heart pounds loudly in my ears. Anxiety creeping into every part of my bones.

There are no memories.

Hell.. my own name even feels like that of a stranger's, how come I'm supposed to remember who Dam....Damien even is.

The door immediately swung open with force before I could try to make out what was happening to me.

Nurses rushed in, followed by a doctor, all of them exclaiming in shock at seeing me, as if I was a dead body that had just resurrected.

The whole room turns into a rush of movement. Flashing lights, questions being hurried at me, even lifting my hands to check my pulse.

My eyes, even my reflexes too they were normal.

I grip the sheets tightly in panic, holding onto them as if they were my only hope. Vivianne stood beside me, she's smiling, but something.

Something... doesn't really feel good about it. The smiles didn't look genuine. At least I just woke up from a coma, but I could send something fishy when I saw it.

"You're going to be just fine. She says.

"You're back now, and that's all that matters."

What did she mean by back?

Back to what?

***************

Hours had gone by.

The chaos in the room is already dying down.

Doctors had run their tests on me to confirm if everything was fine. The nurses stopped gossiping among themselves.

And now.

I'm left alone in the private hospital room with Vivianne. I look down, staring at my hands which were still trembling.

They're still delicate, my perfectly manicured nails clearly visible as I admired them.

It was all elegant, but still didn't feel like mine.

Nothing about this body feels like mine since I woke up hours ago. I part my lips slightly to ask Vivianne questions.

She had to at least know most things I didn't, Anything. To get me out of this confusion.

The knock on the door immediately interrupted the moment, startling me before I could even react.

It swung open. A talk figure walked in, stepping into the room as if he owned the place. The atmosphere immediately changed.

Filled with something that told me this was dangerous- at least so my guts told me. The man standing before me is breathtaking.

Rather charming I would say.

His broad shoulders, followed by the tailored black suit he was putting on clung to every perfect physique of his body.

His perfectly styled hair rested on his back. But his eyes.

Those eyes.

It was... cold, and mysterious.

Sending a chill through me as our eyes got locked onto each other.

"Damien."

Vivianne says, standing up to welcome him as he made his presence known in the private hospital room.

I didn't know him...at least not yet.

But something deep inside of me twists violently as if my gut instinct were warning me.

His gaze settles on me. And then, the words he voices out shattering everything.

"You're finally awake after a long time."

"Dear Fiancé."

Chapter 3 My Life

Selena's POV

***************

"What do you mean by fiancé?"

I....I mean how did I become your fiancé?

I shot back at Damien.

"Did your coma make you lose part of your memory?"

"You don't remember me?"

I swallowed hard, gripping my hospital bed sheets tightly as his piercing eyes locked onto mine.

"Excuse me?"

"I just woke up from a coma, I didn't die and resurrect."

"Maybe I'll remember you gradually." I shot back at him, frowning my face as the anger was visible on my face.

"Convenient."

"We'll have to give the little princess time to remember who her Prince Charming is."

"Let me just get straight to the point by telling you anyway."

Damien said, leaning his back against the doorway. His suit fit him like a second skin, exuding everything that meant power and confidence.

"We have been engaged for two years now, our engagement was a deal that was sealed by your late parents and mine years ago."

"Wha....What do you mean a deal?"

"It was never about love, you were supposed to know this all along."

"And you were fine with that?"

I shot back at him. Something inside me snapping like a live wire ready to explode.

"The only thing that matters to me is the power and connection our engagement would get both our families."

He said. His lips curled into a sly humorless smirk.

"How have I been engaged to someone like you?" I reply to him,

"You'll get used to that sweetheart, 'cause I'm going nowhere."

"We'll have more time together when you get discharged."

He says, storming out of the hospital room as he shut the door quickly behind him.

Before I could even part my lips to say a word, he just left.

Like that.

The conversation between us ended there. No kindness or love, just the painful brutal truth of what our relationship was.

I am engaged to a man who only wanted me for business reasons, or worse...even bound to a future I don't remember signing up for.

Days later.

The soft murmurs of voices pass my ears as I sit in the back of the SUV, my fingers holding onto the fabric of my silk dress.

It's such a strange world I've woken up in luxurious and wealthy, yet suffocating, everything feels...unfamiliar.

Something tells me that I am supposed to get used to this world, the name Selena Moreau tastes wrong on my tongue.

I am Selena Moreau, the estranged daughter of one of the wealthiest families in the country M. But my parents are dead, Vivianne my sister being the only family I have left.

Speaking of Vivianne, I still couldn't let go of that unease I felt towards her, all along her concern to me was just like someone wearing it on her face like a well-practiced mask.

"Sis, are you ok?" Vivianne's voice drifted me off my thoughts for a moment.

"Yes....yes. I'm good."

The drive to the mansion was silent, except for the sound of the engine, Vivianne sat beside me as her eyes were staring at me with something I couldn't quite figure out yet.

Annoyance?

Maybe, A mixture of both?

She had barely left my side since I woke up, being with me every step of the way, but still, something about her presence made me feel uneasy.

We finally arrived at the Moreau Grand Estate, a massive mansion covering almost the entire landscape.

I feel a strange sense of deja vu as I stare at the grand mansion. The house is beautiful, a symbol of power and wealth.

But hey, I feel.. nothing...empty as I step inside. No memories of me growing up here or ever living in a place like this, just...emptiness.

"Welcome home, Lady Selena."

A voice spoke, snapping me from my deep thoughts. It was a middle-aged woman dressed in a perfectly made attire as she spoke, welcoming me into the mansion.

The days passed into a storm of doctor visits, different well-wishers, and friends I didn't even remember any longer.

I tried to piece things together by looking at old photographs and news articles, but it still felt like trying to catch nothing could make me recollect any memory.

The only thing I was certain about in my new life was the engagement I couldn't even remember agreeing to in the first place.

"Damien Laurent."

"How?"

Nothing about him carried love or emotions. Just empty. Those empty cold words he said to me that day at the hospital were still stuck with me.

"Lady Selena?"

Greta, the chief maid, called out to me.

"You have a dinner invitation by Damien Laurent, your fiancé."

Speak of the devil and he appears right before you. It was a dinner invitation at his penthouse. Maybe it was just another duty he was forced to perform by his parents.

"But there was only one way to find out", I whispered, collecting the dinner invitation off Greta's hands as I rushed into my room to get ready.

***********

The elevator ride to his penthouse was smooth and silent as I arrived, dressed elegantly in one of my most expensive gowns.

The air was filled with the scent of expensive perfume and something else...something that gave me a very uneasy feeling as I slid open his penthouse doors.

I hear voices.

Not just voices.

It was a woman's low moan.

Low, filled with intense pleasure as it got louder with me stepping closer to the bedroom.

"Fuck! I'm cumming!"

A man's deep voice murmured in response to the moans that followed.

I move forward before my mind can catch up with my feet, drawn to the sound like a puppet that was controlled.

Every instinct screamed at me to turn around and leave, but my body wouldn't just listen as I stormed the hallway leading to the bedroom door.

I reach for the door, pushing it open.

The air in my body disappears from my lungs in a violent rush.

Vivianne..my sister.

In Damien's bed.
