"Now, we bring you the breaking news. Renowned academician of Usharia Academy of Sciences and Academy of Engineering, Prof. Emberly Hammond sadly passed away in her home at about 7:22 PM on the 26th of March, 1507 Cosmos Year, at the age of 52. Report reaching us state that the Emperor of Usharia and the General Commander have rushed to the hospital. A nationwide three-day halt in all entertainment activities has been declared by the royal household. The late scholar will be mourned publicly during this time."
In the streets of cities and countries on all planets, even those remote wastelands, the loudspeakers, radios, and electronic billboards broadcasted the tragic news to the people. The voice of the reporter choked with sobs. The planet seemed to stop orbiting as the bombshell dropped. Even the stars dimmed. Millions of people froze to the spot, wishing that the news was one big lie or it was all a dream.
No, no, no! How could that be? How could she die?
The average life of expectancy in the Star Age was 150 years. Emberly was only fifty-two years old. She still had many years ahead of her. Why did she die all of a sudden? This news was the least anyone expected. Emberly was loved by many. She had pushed for the country's technology to advance for at least a hundred years. And for that, she was regarded as the Light of Usharia. Since she was a child from the slums but fought her way to the top, people often used her story to motivate the younger generation.
How could such a talented person pass away so early?
Painful cries went up at the same time. The world was thrown into mourning.
The spokesman seemed to have sensed the sadness of the people. He paused and continued, "The Light of Usharia has faded... Prof. Hammond will be greatly remembered for her contribution to the world. May her soul rest in peace."
Three days later, for the first time in history, the Star Way Award-the highest of awards for scientists, was given to Emberly as a lifetime achievement award. Everyone present at the award ceremony wished that a figure would step onto the stage confidently and raise the medal in the air, but this never happened. The attendees couldn't help bawling their eyes out at this time.
In the main city of the center of the universe, a huge monument towered into the clouds. The name, Emberly Hammond, was imprinted there forever. The stars were shining brightly on the names of all the renowned and honored figures here.
Somewhere above the clouds, Emberly was floating. Her consciousness was misty. She didn't know where she was, but she knew that she was dead. This wasn't a first for her. Unbeknown to others, she had died before. No one knew that the child from the slums wasn't really what she was born to be. She was just a broken soul from another world, taking shelter in that body. And she had been fearless ever since simply because she had nothing to lose.
Different from the first time she died, she felt her soul floating this time. She looked down and saw countless people crying for her. Everyone was mourning. She saw that the slums in the past had become a prosperous city, and everyone here was extremely proud of her. Just before everything went black, she looked at the stars surrounding her and smiled brightly.

"Wake up, Emberly! You have to take the medicine. Daddy went to town to get it for you. You will get better as soon as you take it." A slightly childish voice sounded.
"Peter, don't disturb your sister's sleep. Leave her be. She caught a serious cold after being in the rain, so she needs to rest now. Just put the medicine on the bedside table. She will take it once she wakes up." A calm middle-aged man's voice came.
Emberly's mind was fuzzy. She was having a splitting headache. She had just drifted back to reality when she heard those two voices. Her heart did a flip immediately. She slowly opened her eyes, only to find two concerned faces staring down at hers.
Was this a dream? Emberly blinked countlessly. When the two faces didn't disappear, she looked around with her eyes widened in shock. She found herself in a dilapidated brick house. The room she was in had very little furniture. She knew this room far too well; it was the one she lived in during the early years of her first life. The two people looking at her were her father and younger brother.
What happened? Why was she back here again?
There was a mirror opposite the bed. Emberly sat up and looked at her reflection. Her face was chubby. This was how she looked when she was just a teenager!
She quickly put two and two together. She remembered this day! It was before her biological parents came to pick her up. She had just rushed back from school after finding out her true identity. The rain drenched her, so she caught a cold. A few days later, she was taken back to her real family's house. From then on... The nightmare began.
Emberly was the child of the affluent Hammond family in Bluabert. Her pregnant mother felt bored one day and she insisted on going on an outing just before the due date. Little did the woman know that her daughter would decide to come earlier than expected. Emberly was delivered at a hospital in the countryside. It so happened that another woman with the same surname Hammond also gave birth to her child on the same day in the same hospital. Due to the negligence of the medical team, the two women took the wrong babies home.
Sixteen years passed by very quickly, and the two girls grew up living completely different lives. Things only changed when Felicia Hammond, the one who lived with the rich Hammonds in Bluabert, got into a car accident. The Hammond couple rushed to the hospital as soon as they heard the news, and that was when they noticed something was off. The couple both had type A blood, so why was their daughter's blood type a B?
This was strange so they took a DNA test that proved that Felicia wasn't their real daughter. Swift investigation showed that they took the wrong child home from the hospital. They found out that their real daughter had lived an impoverished life in the countryside for sixteen years.
The couple just couldn't leave their real daughter out there. The bond between them and Felicia was so strong that they didn't want to abandon her to suffer either. After thinking it through, they decided to raise both children together. They planned to compensate the other Hammond couple who had raised their biological daughter for the past sixteen years, and then took the girl away.
Xavier Hammond, the man who raised Emberly for years, was a farmer who struggled to make ends meet. He found it hard to believe the news until he was presented with irrefutable evidence. Although he wanted to get to know his real daughter Felicia, he couldn't take her back when he saw her teary eyes. He felt that it would be wicked of him to bring her into poverty after she had enjoyed wealth all these years.
In the end, he agreed to give Emberly to the other Hammond couple without taking back Felicia. He refused to accept a penny from them though. All he wanted was a better life for the two girls.
Emberly felt like her whole life was a lie after she found out the truth. Although she had lived an impoverished life from childhood, she was happy with her present family. She wanted to stay back with them. But as a child, no one really cared about her opinion.
After the Hammonds took Emberly to Bluabert where they lived, she couldn't fit in. She was the exact opposite of Felicia, who had lived a comfortable life since birth. Felicia was educated. She could play all kinds of musical instruments. She also knew calligraphy and painting. On the other hand, Emberly only knew how to study. One could say that she was a nerd.
She was one of the top students while she schooled in the countryside. But when she was enrolled in a school in Bluabert, she became an average student. Her strife at school was one of the things that affected her self-esteem. She soon withdrew into her shell. To make matters worse, her biological parents always compared her to Felicia. They never favored her even though she was their real daughter.
Felicia was hell-bent to make Emberly's life a living hell. Even though she was their parents' favorite, she was still not satisfied. She bullied Emberly at home and at school. She even went as far as setting her sister up for murder, causing her to be sentenced to prison for fifteen years.
Life in prison broke Emberly even more. She was like a lamb who was sent into the wolves' den. All the other prisoners beat her round the clock just for fun for ten years. One day when she couldn't take it anymore, she resisted the bullying with all the courage she could muster. Shortly after, the prison heads murdered her in cold blood.
As her life came to an end, all her bitter-sweet memories flashed through her mind. She recalled her family in Warlington Village. Emberly wished she had fought her biological parents when they came to take her away. She vowed to herself not to care about anyone else but her family in Warlington, her real family, if she wasn't given another chance. They were all that mattered to her.
To her surprise, she woke up in the body of a girl from the slums, who just died of illness in the Star Age.
Emberly still had the memories from her first life. Armed with the knowledge she got from her stay in prison, she found her way out of the slums slowly. She consumed more knowledge like her life depended on it. She finally became a famous scientist who was known as the Light of Usharia. People praised her, but no one knew her pain. They were unaware that she was struggling to find the meaning of life and didn't feel like she belonged anywhere.
Her life as a famous scientist ended quickly again. Who would have known that she would return to her sixteen-year-old self from her past life?
Everything that happened to Emberly in the two lifetimes flooded her head as she stared at her reflection in the mirror. When she finally looked at the young and agile Xavier and Peter, she couldn't help but shed tears. In another life, Xavier had fallen ill after he learned that Emberly was sent to prison. The blow made his health deteriorate rapidly, and he died two years later.
Now, it seemed God gave Emberly another shot at this life. She was intent on making good use of the opportunity. She was going to protect Xavier and Peter. She also wanted to take revenge for her past suffering.
Xavier panicked when he saw his precious daughter crying. He thought it was because she couldn't process the news of having biological parents she previously didn't know of. He sat on the edge of the bed and wiped her tears. "It's okay, Emmie. You will be fine. When you recover, you can go to live with your real parents. You don't have to suffer here anymore. Whenever you miss us, you can come to visit us. You will always be my daughter."
Emberly nodded with sobs.
"Here, take the medicine first. Your health is the most important thing." Xavier handed the medicine to her.
Emberly took the bitter medicine and swallowed it without a frown. She knew pain, so this was nothing.
"Dad, I know you are doing this for my own good. I will go with them. But you also have to promise me that you will take good care of yourself and Peter. I will visit you often."
"Okay, okay, I promise you." Xavier could never say no to her.
After tucking her in bed again, Xavier and Peter walked out of the room.
Unable to sleep, Emberly thought about what happened in her first life. She planned to stop all those life-changing bad things that happened before. But the most important thing now was to recuperate. Revenge could come later since it was best served cold...
It was a sunny morning in Bluabert.
In the living room of the Hammond family's villa, the whole family was discussing Emberly's return. Felicia lowered her head and looked dejected. She had been silent all along. When her mother-Sylvia Hammond, noticed this, her heart ached. She didn't like seeing Felicia sad even though it turned out they weren't related.
"Licia, don't be so sad. Emberly will be your sister, and our love for you will never change. You are still our daughter." Sylvia held her hand.
"I know, Mom. I'm not unhappy about the development. Since Emberly is your biological daughter, I won't try to compete with her. I'm already lucky to have been raised under your loving care for the past sixteen years. Don't worry about me." Tears welled up in her eyes, making her look even more pitiful.
Her considerate words made her parents feel warm.
"Honey, you should go to work now. Licia and Travis, it's already time for school. I'll go to pick Emmie up. Although that man said that he doesn't want any money from us, I can't help but feel that he would change his mind and blackmail us someday. I'll take money along just in case the pauper goes back on his words," Sylvia said the last sentence with disgust.
Her husband-Darian Hammond, nodded and mumbled a few words before putting on his coat and setting off.
Felicia's misty eyes gleamed with disgust after her real father was mentioned. She hated the idea of being the daughter of such a poverty-stricken farmer, and she wasn't going to allow anyone to spoil the abundant life she had been living for years. As far as she was concerned, Emberly was just a nobody who didn't even know how the world worked. She was ready to fight tooth and nail with this new girl as soon as possible. Thinking of this, Felicia clenched her fists.
"Mom, can I go with you? Since you guys don't have a relationship yet, the meeting might be a little awkward. I'm the same age as her, so we can hit it off pretty quickly. What do you think?"
Sylvia felt that it was a good idea, so she agreed. She called Felicia's teacher and applied for a day's leave. Afterward, they set off with the butler.
Travis Hammond-the Hammond couple's other child-didn't join in the conversation. He was always calmer and smarter than his peers. He felt sorry for his supposed younger sister Emberly, but he was much closer to Felicia because she was the only sister he had actually known since birth. He decided to go to school as usual instead offering to go with his mother and sister.
Later on, whenever he recalled the decision he made today, he would feel extremely regretful.
In Warlington Village, the news that Xavier's daughter, Emberly wasn't his biological child spread like wildfire. The villagers soon all learned that her biological parents were on their way to pick her up. Not only that, they heard that the Hammonds from Bluabert were filthy rich. They talked about how lucky Emberly was as well as how despicable Xavier's real daughter was since she refused to give way to the real princess.
Several women gathered under a big tree at the center of the village to gossip. They were deep in their gossip when a shiny luxury car began to come towards them.
Sylvia was currently in a bad mood. She had heard that it was a village, but she was shocked that it was so remote. The car was entering into many potholes, causing its occupants to swing from side to side. Sylvia was cursing non-stop.
The bad road ended at a short distance from Xavier's house. Sylvia, Felicia, and the butler had to get out of the car and walk the rest of the way. It was a muddy path, so their shoes soon got soiled. Sylvia cursed under her breath, "Gosh! That Xavier guy didn't even bother coming to pick us up. To think my poor daughter has been raised up by such an uneducated lowlife!"
Although she was annoyed, she felt a little better when Felicia held her hand. She was pleased that she raised such an excellent daughter.
Xavier had been standing at the front door of his house for a long time. He was supposed to pick Sylvia up, but he couldn't leave the house since Peter had gone to school and there was no one to care for the sick Emberly. As he looked down the muddy path, he saw three expensively dressed people. He hurried towards them.
Sylvia was all grumpy. As soon as she was ushered into the house, she felt sick. This place was worse than she imagined. She didn't know much about how her daughter had lived in the past sixteen years. But after seeing the deplorable state of this house, she was happy that her precious Licia hadn't grown up here. Perhaps it was fate that caused the whole baby switcheroo. It wasn't a fair thing to think, but she couldn't help it.
"Please have a seat. I'll get you some water." Xavier felt a little uneasy as Sylvia looked around with her lips upturned with disgust.
"No, you don't have to. We'll be leaving soon." Sylvia stopped him immediately.
Xavier was stunned.
"Why so soon? I hate to break it to you, but Emmie is sick. Why don't you rest here first?"
"What? She's sick? Why did you let that happen? It seems you haven't been taking good care of my daughter while we raised yours well. You can see that for yourself!" Sylvia flipped out as soon as she heard his statement.
Xavier hurriedly waved his hand and explained, "Ma'am, it's not what you think. Emmie ran back home after hearing the news, and it was raining heavily... Anyway, she caught a cold because of it. I have-"
"Spare me your excuses, mister. We won't wait here. Just release her to us. She will receive the best treatment once we go back home!" Sylvia cut him off rudely.
Xavier's eyes darkened and he nodded.
"Dad, who are they? What are you discussing?" During the argument, Emberly had gotten out of bed and made it to her bedroom door. Her face was pale due to the illness, but she still looked beautiful.
Felicia turned to look at her. A spark of jealousy and resentment leaped into her eyes. She had expected to see a haggard young girl. It was an unpleasant surprise that Emberly was very pretty. She clearly took after her biological mother, Sylvia.
"Emmie, you are here! I'm your mother! You are a spitting image of me. You can see that, right?" Before Xavier could introduce them, Sylvia had stepped forward and held Emberly's hand.
Emberly flashed her a polite but distant smile and withdrew her hand. She then looked at Xavier.
"Yes, this is your... Mother. And that is your sister, Felicia. They are your family from now on. They came to take you home," Xavier said hurriedly.
The fact that Emberly turned to Xavier for confirmation made Sylvia a little dissatisfied. However, she didn't show it since this was their first meeting.
"In that case, I'll go and pack my things. Please wait for a moment." Emberly turned around and went back into her bedroom.
Her swift acceptance took everyone by surprise. They had expected her to throw a tantrum since she was practically being uprooted from here.
Felicia's annoyance increased by the second. What was there to pack? She probably had tattered and old belongings. There was no need to pack such things. After all, her wardrobe would be changed once they got back home.
A few minutes later, Emberly came out with a small suitcase. She had only a few belongings since the family she grew up in was poor. There were only two sets of clothes and a lot of textbooks in her suitcase.
"Dad, remember the promise you made me. Take care of yourself and Peter. I'll visit often. I love you!"
"I'll keep that in mind. When you get home, you should get along well with your new family. Study hard in your new school. One of these days, Peter and I will visit you. Take care, Emmie. Love you... And you too, Licia..." Xavier's voice was shaky. Both of his daughters were leaving. He turned around with tears in his eyes.
Sylvia suddenly winked at the butler. Taking the hint, the butler moved to Xavier and held out a credit card. "Here you go, mister. This is a little gift from Mr. and Mrs. Hammond to show appreciation to you for raising Miss Emberly."
Xavier shook his head hard and said, "Emmie is my daughter. It's my duty to raise her. I already said before that I don't want a penny from you. I only want you to treat Emmie and... Licia well."
"Not to worry; they are both my daughters now. They won't lack anything. My husband and I will give them the best education and any other thing they would ever need. Since you don't want the money, we'd appreciate it if you don't disturb the girls' lives. We are Emberly's real parents after all. As for Felicia, she can come to see you if she wants, and we won't stop her," Sylvia uttered firmly.
She had gotten what she came here for, so she didn't want to talk to Xavier or stay here for another second. She knew Felicia like the back of her hand. As a result, she was certain that Felicia wouldn't turn her back on them who had raised her for years.
"Well, that's good." Xavier forced a smile.
Emberly acted as if she hadn't heard a word of Sylvia's. She stepped forward and hugged Xavier before saying, "Dad, take care of yourself and Peter. I will be back."
Again, Sylvia was displeased with Emberly's behavior. It was like a slap in her face that her biological daughter was showing affection to someone else when she barely acknowledged her presence. She reasoned that Emberly badly behaved because she was raised in such an underdeveloped village. She decided to discipline her more when they returned to the city.
Before getting into the car, Emberly waved at Xavier, who stood still and stared at the car until it disappeared.
Emberly didn't look back. She knew it was just a temporary separation. Once she took revenge on the Hammonds for what they did to her in her past life, she would return to her family-the real ones in her books.
On the way, for several times, Felicia wanted to talk to Emberly, but she swallowed her words when she saw her resting with her eyes closed. She could only stare at Emberly's beautiful pale face and keep silent.
It was almost dusk when they finally arrived home. It was a villa located in the wealthiest area in Bluabert. All the neighbors were either rich, powerful, or both. Felicia glanced at Emberly. This should be the first time that this bumpkin was seeing such villas. She must be shocked.
After coming out of the car, Emberly stared up at the magnificent building in front of her. There was no look of surprise, awe, or timidity on her face. She simply smiled and muttered to herself, "I'm back again."
What a pretentious bumpkin! Felicia gritted her teeth, staring daggers at Emberly.
"Why are you girls just standing there? Come on in!" Sylvia urged them in.
Emberly walked into the house, followed by Felicia.
"Emmie, we didn't have time to prepare a room for you. Although Licia's room should be yours, you only just came back, and she is already used to it having lived there for many years. Do you mind staying in the guest room on the second floor instead for the time being? I was able to buy some new clothes for you. They are already in the wardrobe. If you don't like any of them, I can have them replaced. Don't worry; this arrangement is only temporary. We'll later see which room you like and have it decorated, alright?"
Sylvia didn't see anything wrong with her arrangement. After all, the guest room was already much better than the place Emberly used to live in the countryside.
But fairly speaking, it wasn't the right thing to do. She was already practicing favoritism by giving Emberly a lesser room while Felicia, who wasn't her real daughter, was left to enjoy a well-furnished room.
Sylvia's behavior didn't surprise Emberly at all. This was how she was treated in her past life. Darian and Sylvia were indeed nice to her at the beginning. But as time went by, they turned against her and took Felicia's side. They even ignored her after she was set up and sentenced to prison for murder.
"No, I don't mind. I can stay anywhere," Emberly replied.
Her response stirred up Sylvia's sympathy a little. Since she finally got to be with her biological daughter, she wanted to make it up to her in as many ways as possible. "Go and check your room. I'll let you know when dinner's ready," Sylvia said softly.
"Sure. I'll go upstairs to freshen up."
Emberly went upstairs to her bedroom; the same one she lived in during her previous life. She didn't mind that she was given this substandard room. All she cared about was having her revenge on Felicia. She looked forward to striking her target when she least expected.
Felicia's heart was singing at this time. In her head, she had just won the first round of the battle for the Hammonds' love. She was pleased to see she hadn't lost her position as their beloved daughter.
In the next thirty minutes, Travis and Darian arrived home in close succession.
Travis frowned after he was told that Emberly would be staying in the guest room, but in the end, he didn't say anything.
As everyone sat at the dining table for dinner, Darian stared at his long-lost daughter. He piped up, "Welcome home, Emberly. It's good to have you back. If you need anything, don't hesitate to tell your mother. I've already transferred you to Maybourn High. You will go through the registration tomorrow morning. You don't have to worry about anything. Since the birthday of you two is in a month, I will just reveal by then that you two are twins. The story will be that you got lost when you were little. Otherwise, if the public finds out the truth, we will be made a laughing stock and Licia would be embarrassed. You should be careful not to let it out, okay?"
Darian and Sylvia were a match made in heaven. Instead of caring about Emberly's feelings, they were more concerned about their reputation and the welfare of their other daughter. Emberly sneered inwardly.
"Dad, will that be possible? And is that even necessary? Licia still has her own real father. Besides, they two don't even look like twins," Travis unexpectedly chipped in.
He couldn't stand the unfairness of his parents. In his opinion, Emberly was the one who needed to be protected. She had suffered because someone else had taken her place in this household even though it was a mistake. He also didn't like that she was sent to stay in the guest room instead of enjoying what was rightfully hers. It just didn't make sense to him that Felicia was being placed above Emberly, even though he actually grew up with Felicia and adored her.
"Why can't we? Twins don't always look alike. We can say that they are fraternal twins. Just to be clear, Licia is still my daughter. She doesn't have to keep in contact with her biological father."
"But..." Travis opened his mouth to speak. However, when he saw Felicia's pleading eyes, he swallowed his words.
He didn't want to spoil Felicia's chances of continuing to have a good life, so he decided to make it up to Emberly by treating her well in the future. She was his biological sister, after all.
It was all a game for Emberly, so she did nothing but nod at Darian's words.
Maybourn High was a top school in the country. It was hard to get in. Emberly would probably only be placed in the worst class even though some strings were pulled in her favor.
When Emberly noticed that Felicia was staring at her with contempt, she slowly smiled and her eyes turned malignant. Her strange smile and expression sent a shiver down Felicia's spine. She looked away fearfully. Why did this bumpkin smile at her like that?
Emberly went back to her room after dinner. Her family members assumed that she was introverted, so they didn't stop her, let alone question her.
Emberly took out the books she had brought with her. Since she hadn't read them in a lifetime, she couldn't remember their content.
Freshman year in high school came with its own hurdles. She would have to take nine subjects from the fields of science to literature. To refresh her memory, she skimmed through the textbooks. The content stuck to her brain quickly. Perhaps it was because in her life in the Star Age, she turned out to be a scientist with a high IQ.
Emberly studied until she felt a bit dizzy. She then went to bed early.
At the crack of dawn, she went out for morning exercise. Decades of imprisonment and life in poverty had made her see the need for a strong physique. The ability to fight could be a lifesaver.
Due to her ill health, Emberly couldn't carry out tasking exercises. Her legs became shaky after running around the estate twice. She rested for a while before she trained her fists for punches and did some yoga to balance her breathing. She learned from one of the inmates that yoga was a good way to strengthen the body. In the Star Age, many people just drank gene strengtheners to energize their bodies. There was no such thing here, so she was only left to exercise.
After breakfast, Darian went to work and the three kids went to school.
A heated argument was going on in the dean's office at Maybourn High.
"Mr. Happer, I don't want this kid to be transferred to my class. As you know, my class is the best in the school. This girl previously attended a school in a remote village. You of all people should be able to guess how her performance will be. If she's brought to my class..." The argument was between the homeroom teacher of the top class, Dolores Cooper and the dean, Marlin Happer.
Marlin sighed. "Ms. Cooper, I understand how you feel, but the school believes in your ability to guide her. Although she's a transfer student from a remote village, her records show that she was a top student there."
"In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king! If she's allowed into my class, she will only bring down the average grade. I can't allow that. I'd rather resign than have someone like her in my class!"
Dolores was stubborn. She was confident that this threat would work since over the years she had been working here, the majority of her students had gotten into famous universities, Ivy League ones even.
Marlin knew that arguing with her was like talking to a brick wall. In the end, he had no choice but to say, "Fine. Please call Ms. Lyons for me."
Dolores breathed a sigh of relief and left gloatingly.
"Ms. Lyons, a transfer student is coming to our school today. I'm going to assign her to your class. Do you have any objections?"
The homeroom teacher for Class 14, Mona Lyons, looked at Emberly's file and frowned when she saw the school she was being transferred from. "Sir, I have no issue with that. But since she didn't take the entrance examination, I'd like to hold a test for her first."
"No problem. Give her the entrance examination papers." Marlin breathed a sigh of relief. Finally, someone accepted Emberly.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door.
"Come in!"
"Good morning. I'm Emberly Hammond." Emberly introduced herself as soon as she walked in.
"Welcome, Emberly. We were just talking about you. Since you missed the just-concluded entrance exams for the semester, would you mind doing the exam papers now? Oh, and this is Ms. Mona Lyons, the homeroom teacher of Class 14," said Marlin.
Emberly nodded. "Okay."
Mona sized her up carefully. At least, she didn't look like a troublemaker.
"I have a meeting to attend now. I'll leave you to it, Ms. Lyons."
Mona nodded and Marlin left the office.
"Have a seat, Emberly. These are the question papers for the entrance examination. You will do just math, English, and science questions. Skip the essay part if you want to, since we don't have that much time really."
Once the question papers were placed in front of Emberly, she began to solve them after just one glance. Her pen kept moving on the answer sheet as she didn't even stop to think.
When Mona saw that Emberly was solving the questions so fast, her face darkened. She didn't mind Emberly having a bad grade, but in her opinion, Emberly wasn't even making an effort to think before writing random things down. She suppressed her displeasure and waited for the girl to finish before she would snap at her.
In less than an hour, Emberly finished writing. It would have taken her lesser time if it weren't for the math quiz, which required her to write down every equation in detail. Anyway, she still felt like a doctorate student who just did primary school addition and subtraction.
With anger steaming off her ears, Mona took the answer sheets and read through them. Her anger soon subsided and she couldn't believe her eyes. Not only was she shocked by Emberly's beautiful handwriting, but she was also amazed by her answers.
She had answered the questions correctly-all of them!
She even solved each math problem with different methods.
Mona's hands trembled. A smile suddenly appeared on her previously hardened face. She had thought a dullard was placed under her care. But it turned out she got a genius!
She looked at Emberly with bright eyes. "Welcome to Class 14, Emberly!"
"Thank you, Ms. Lyons." Emberly nodded with a smile.
Mona wanted to tell Marlin the news. But on second thought, the possibility that Emberly saw the question papers before now couldn't be ruled out. She then decided to double-check before blowing Emberly's trumpet.
