Chapter 1 Meeting Lucien.

AIMEE'S POV

My name is Aimee Garcia and for the longest time, I have been all alone, I have no family and I witnessed my parents being murdered when I was just three years old. I moved between foster homes and several families but I never felt like I belonged with any of them. Despite my unfortunate childhood, I centered my life and goals on attending college, trying to get a degree so I could get a good job and build a better life for myself. I pride myself as a smart young woman and I only believe in factual, logical happenings in the world. I believed there would always be an explanation for everything and I never believed that supernatural beings and creatures from other dimensions existed. All these and more made me an average human being and in my 21 years of existence nothing strange happened to me to change my beliefs and that continued to be the case until I met HIM; I still remember it like it happened yesterday.

It was a Monday morning and I dashed across the hallway in an attempt to make it to class on time, it was my first class of the day and I was running late as always. It wasn't my fault though; I had been having weird dreams and seeing a creature that I couldn't explain which had been making me wake up later than usual. Luck was on my side this time and I barely made it into the lecture theatre just as the class was about to start and found my way to my usual seat.

I was about to take my seat when I heard someone shout, "What took you so long woman!" That was my best friend Reine; a super cheerful and jovial person and the only friend I had managed to make since my first year in college. We did everything together, and we even lived in the same apartment together.

I gestured to her to keep quiet as the lecture had already started and I was calling attention to us. Then I started to take notes, and She did the same. Halfway through the lecture Reine leaned towards me and whispered in my ear "Do you remember my older brother that I told you about, he recently reached out to me that he was in town and he would like to visit. I have invited him over to the apartment later this evening; I hope that is fine with you because I want you to meet him as well". I looked at my friend surprised that I even had to ask, and I quickly responded, "Of course I would love to meet your brother, Reine, I know he means a lot to you".

From what I had heard about Reine's brother and from pictures of him that I had seen, I knew that he was a very tall and insanely attractive man with jet-black hair and dark pupils. He gave off a dominant and mysterious vibe, and Reine's other friends who had met him fawned over him all the time. They claimed he was someone every woman would want in her bed, yet he didn't sound like the type of man I would involve myself with. I didn't believe in falling for the bad boys, but he was Reine's older brother, and that was a good enough reason to want to meet the man.

The class ended, and it was Reine's only class for the day, but I still had a couple of things to do at college, so we decided that I would go home to prepare for her brother's visit, and I would leave later when I was done for the day. We hugged, said goodbye, and then headed in opposite directions. I got busy completing my remaining tasks on campus, and after a couple of hours, I was exhausted. I took a quick restroom break to touch up my face to look presentable before heading home.

I washed my face and took a look in the restroom mirror, then I looked at my facial features for the first time in a while. I didn't consider myself ugly, but I didn't feel that I was overly attractive. I noticed my siren-shaped eyes with blue pupils, a trait I am told I got from my mother, and a sharp jawline I heard I got from my father, and I stared at my most noticeable feature of all. My hair is very long and has a unique colour; it is platinum blond, almost white, and the most remarkable thing was that neither of my parents had that type of hair. I stepped back and looked at my body. I never really worked out seriously, but I have always seemed to maintain a toned and athletic body. I am slim with well-toned abs and well-rounded hips. I stared at myself in the mirror almost mesmerized in a trance-like state and would have continued in that state but I got a sharp notification on my phone. It turned out to be a text from Reine telling me that her brother had arrived at the apartment and that it was to be a short visit so I should head back to the apartment already.

As I walked back to the apartment, I started to get a sense that something strange was about to happen. I tried to pass it off as being tired from the day but the feeling stayed on my mind to the point where a shiver went down my spine and I even got Goosebumps all over my body but I still decided to ignore the feeling and responded to Reine's text that I was on my way.

Within the next hour, I arrived at my apartment building. I took the lift to our floor and as I approached the door I began to smell a very strong and distinct scent, it smelled of musk and sandalwood and I just figured it was the scent of a regular man. However, the scent filled my brain and seemed to intoxicate me and I looked around anxiously searching for the source of this scent.

I sniffed around and as I got closer to my apartment door I heard Reine talking to someone, I heard him respond and his voice was so deep and captivating. I opened the door and I was immediately filled with the strong scent again, I faced the source and direction the scent was coming from and found that the person had their back turned to me. I heard my friend call out to me; I heard her say something but my brain could not process what I was hearing. All I wanted at that moment was for this mysterious man to turn around and face me, I wanted to understand how and why a person could smell this good and also why the scent was having such an effect on me.

The mystery man rose to his feet painstakingly slowly and I could visibly see him sniffing around as well, I was a little surprised because at that point I was quite sure that he was the source of the scent. As I waited for this man to turn around my heart started to beat faster, and I found myself sweating and taking in shorter laboured breaths. I didn't understand what was going on and I had never found myself in that state before, my body was responding in a way it shouldn't because that weird interaction did not warrant such a reaction. I hadn't even seen the face of the man that was making me feel that way.

I tried to calm myself down and maintain a calm composure but my legs were turning to jelly and I could barely stand upright. I saw the man walking towards me but everything was coming as a blur. At that moment, my brain felt mushy and I began to wonder if maybe I had been drugged sometime during the day. I had to hold onto the furniture because I could feel my legs buckle beneath me, I was very nervous and anxious for this man to get to me and it seemed like an eternity.

The mystery man finally got to where I was standing and stopped right in front of me. I stared at his feet first and my eyes slowly travelled along the full length of his body, I ended up having to look up to see his face, and immediately I stared at his face, and we locked eyes.

Chapter 2 The Imprint

As I locked eyes with the mystery man, the rest of the world seemed to fade away. I forgot where I was and all the steps that had brought me to that exact moment, but somehow I knew like a spiritual being was telling me, I felt it in the depths of my soul that this was the man I was going to spend the rest of my life with. I took in his features, he was a tall man about 6"5, his muscles were very defined in the tailored tuxedo he was wearing, he had a chiseled jawline, and his mouth was set tight like he was trying not to give any sense of emotion away.

His hair was pitch black and it was set in a rough style that only the most handsome of men could pull off. The pupils of his eyes were pure black and his stare had a piercing sincerity to it. He looked very dominant and he gave off the aura and charisma of a real man.

I looked into his eyes and found it so alluring the way he was staring right back into mine. Neither of us said anything, but I was sure that whatever this sudden rush of emotions was, the feeling was mutual. He was staring at me like he saw something in my eyes; it seemed like our souls recognized each other and knew something we didn't.

My pulse quickened and my heart started to pound, a spot just underneath my collarbone was throbbing like crazy and I felt a strong urge to bare my neck to this man. I was more than willing to do that because all I wanted at that moment was for him to kiss me. He began to move closer towards me and I thought that was what he was about to do when I heard a very low and animal-like growl coming from him and I saw a weird flash in his eyes.

I was very much taken aback by that and I immediately snapped back to reality because I found that it was a very strange thing for a person to do. I didn't understand what was going on and I started to look confused. As the man saw the look in my eyes; he took a step back from me, he gave me one last glance and then he just walked right out of the apartment like we did not just share the most intimate gaze.

Reine ran out after the man giving me some time to come back to my senses. I sat down on the couch and recounted everything that had gone down since I walked into the apartment building in my head but I could not seem to make sense of any of it. I remembered the way the man growled at me and how he walked away from me and I started to feel very angry at the whole situation.

I was practically steaming from anger when Reine walked back into the apartment looking like a lost puppy. As soon as I saw my best friend I screamed out "What the actual f^ck just happened Reine? Who was that man, and what did he just do to me??"

Reine looked surprised by my outburst, I was usually the calm and collected one but I understood that the events of the day were enough to trigger such a reaction in anyone. I calmed me down, got a glass of water for me to drink and sat down beside me on the couch.

I stared at her waiting for an explanation, I saw that I was struggling and didn't know how to answer my questions so I asked more calmly this time "Reine who exactly was that man?"

Reine finds her words to respond this time, and she says "That was my older brother and only sibling, Lucien Duvall. I know you have a lot of questions as to what just happened and I know that you would be shocked about some things I will reveal to you about myself and my family but I beg of you, please remain calm and know that I kept all of this away from you for your good, you remain my best friend regardless of anything that happens and I hope you know that I love you as the sister I never had."

I was surprised at that response from my best friend, I thought I knew everything about Reine, I thought we had shared everything about each other and I was still confused as to how I felt all those things for Lucien in such a short period, We never even uttered any words to each other.

I decided to stay calm and hear my friend out although I was anxious and curious inside. I eagerly waited for this revelation from Reine but just as she was about to talk, she got a phone call. I watched as my friend jumped from her seat and went to take the call in another room.

Shortly after, Reine emerged from the other room and she seemed to be in a rush. She told me that she needed to leave immediately as something had come up back at her home and she had to be there. She begged me to trust our friendship and promised that she would either be back home as soon as possible or she would send word to me as soon as she could.

I remember that I sat on the same spot and watched as my best friend left the apartment, I felt distraught at the events of the day and I felt somewhat betrayed that Reine had been keeping things from me. I remained in the same spot long after Reine had left and even late into the night. I felt extremely exhausted and I eventually ended up sleeping off on the couch.

Deep in slumber, I began a dream that I had come to recognize all too well. I found myself strolling through a forest under the moonlight; the trees were unlike any I had ever seen, with a silver light that shimmered from their leaves and lit up a small path in front of me. I felt a gentle cool breeze against my skin and I ultimately felt at peace in that strange place.

As I walked the small well-lit path, I started to realize that I was not alone, there was a creature lurking in the shadows. It didn't seem evil or like an enemy though, in fact, it felt like this creature was a friend, one I was already familiar with. This was the point I usually woke up on other days and I had never actually gotten to see what the creature looked like but that day it was different. I heard a howl and the moon seemed to shine brighter in that instant. The creature slowly emerged from the shadow and for the first time, I got to take a good look at it. It had a pure white fur and it stood tall, it looked like it wasn't going to hurt me but as it stared at her I saw that its eyes were a cobalt blue shade just like hers.

I screamed and jumped from the couch, it was the fifth time in a row I had been getting these dreams but this was the clearest one so far and I was pretty sure about it this time. That was a wolf!

Chapter 3 The Invitation

I woke up feeling as confused as ever. I had finally seen what the creature from my dreams looked like, I was very sure that it was a wolf I saw but still, I had no idea what it all meant. I remembered that Reine had left so abruptly the previous day and I couldn't help but feel a sudden pang of loneliness that my only friend had abandoned me.

I did not dwell in the sad feelings and quickly took a shower to freshen up for the day then I headed to college and decided to be productive for the rest of the day but a part of me remained anxious to hear from Reine and have all the strange events explained.

As I attended my classes and saw to my tasks for the day, I found myself often distracted by a whirlwind of thoughts, I was still expectant to hear from my friend but I had to admit to myself that it was another thought that was at the forefront of my mind; the image of the man I had met the day before. My brief but intense meeting with Lucien was not like anything I had ever experienced, and the memory of that intimate time lingered in my mind.

I found myself reliving the intensity of his gaze, every time I thought about our interaction the spot below my collarbone throbbed. I couldn't quite explain what happened in that moment, a connection had sparked between us and as if time had stood still and only the two of us existed, I felt bound to Lucien in a way I could not comprehend. It was like our souls had been longing for each other.

Unfortunately for me, every time I remembered the intense intimate interaction I had shared with Lucien, it also brought back memories of how he had walked out on me leaving me feeling rejected and undesirable without any explanation and my anger was renewed. No man had ever made me feel that way and I decided that no man would ever be able to make me feel that way again, strange pull or not!

That evening, as I left college and returned to my apartment I had a strange feeling like I was being watched, I kept on looking over my shoulders but I did not find anyone there. The feeling remained but I didn't know what to do about it. I hurried home, entered my apartment building and headed to my floor. I got a whiff of the scent I had smelled the other day and I opened the door to my apartment in a rush expecting to see Reine and her brother Lucien but I got disappointed when I found that the house was empty.

I got something to eat and headed to bed half expecting to have the same dreams I had been having but it turned out differently this time. I slept completely undisturbed by dreams of strange places and strange creatures for the first time in a while.

The next couple of days seemed to go by like a blur. I continued in my daily routine but with the lingering feeling that I was being watched and followed everywhere I went.

It had hit the two week mark since the strange events that altered my life and I still hadn't gotten word from Reine and her brother, I also didn't get any dreams since the day I saw the wolf clearly. That morning I woke up as I would every other day and followed the same routine to get ready for the day. I headed out of my apartment to campus but this day was not like the others because something strange happened.

Immediately I stepped out of my apartment building, I found a very tall good-looking man waiting for me at the doorstep. He introduced himself as Isaac and told me that he had been sent by the Duvall family to deliver a very urgent and important message to me. He asked that I should follow him and assured me that I would be safe with him.

I didn't want to trust him because he was a stranger, I was at a crossroads because I really wanted to know what was happening and see my best friend again but I was scared. As I was still thinking about what to do, I got a notification of a text message on my phone. I quickly grabbed my phone to check who had texted me and to my surprise it was a text from Reine.

The text I got read "Hi bestie, I am so sorry that it has taken me this long to reach out, my business at home is taking longer than expected. I know you have been waiting for my return and I don't want you to be anxious any longer so I am inviting you over to my world. You will witness strange things but please do not be scared and trust that I would never deliberately put you in harm's way. Follow Isaac and do as he says and I am sure you will get here safely, all will be explained once you get here and I will be waiting for you Aimee".

As I read the text I became less anxious and scared of following Isaac. I told him I would go with him but I needed to get something very important to me from my house first. I went back into my apartment and headed straight to my room, and then I went to my jewelry box and grabbed an old locket that I couldn't leave behind.

The locket was a small golden chain with a heart pendant and a tiny Jade stone on it. Inside the locket was an old picture of my parents and engraved on it were the initials LRP. I didn't know what the initials meant but I figured it must have been important to my family.

Once I had secured the locket safely in my jacket, I headed back out to meet Isaac and told him I was ready to go. He led me to a very expensive looking car and directed me to get inside. After getting into the car, we set off, and although I was still unsure of our destination, I was sure of one thing: I was tired of feeling confused and not knowing what was going on in my life. I decided to uncover the truth, no matter the cost. I trusted Reine and knew that with my best friend by my side, I would face whatever challenges lay ahead and uncover the secrets of her family; secrets that I didn't know would change my life forever.

I took a deep breath to calm my nerves that were getting worked up; I straightened my shoulders and prepared myself to face whatever was to come. I had no idea that no amount of mental or physical preparation could prepare me for where I was going and that the truth I was looking for would take me into an unknown world.
