Chapter 1 Secret and Lies

Naomi lay in the hospital bed, her frail body barely a shadow of its former self. The room was quiet except for the faint beeping of the monitors. Her head was covered with a scarf, hiding the thinning hair underneath.

The door creaked open, and the doctor entered, clipboard in hand. "Naomi," the doctor called gently, approaching her bed, he looked at her with a mixture of sympathy and professionalism.

"I need to talk to you about your condition."

Naomi looked up, her eyes heavy with exhaustion. "Is it the baby, doctor?"

The doctor nodded solemnly. "I'm afraid you lost one of the twins. It appears to be due to a complication resembling an induced abortion, possibly related to something you ingested. However, by some miracle, the other twin is still alive, but you'll need to be extremely careful-no stress, no emotional upheavals, and you'll need to take a lot of vitamins and other supplements to ensure the baby's safety."

"Induced abortion?" Naomi whispered. "Was the miscarriage a deliberate abortion? I thought my illness caused it..."

A tear rolled down Naomi's cheek, and her hand instinctively moved to caress her flat abdomen. "I'll do everything I can to protect this little one," she whispered.

The doctor continued, his tone serious. "You also need to be aware of your illness. The tests confirm that you have a form of cancer called Hodgkin lymphoma. It's treatable, but the pregnancy complicates things."

"I know... I don't want to be reminded about my illness again," Naomi replied as tears flowed freely. "This isn't the first time this has happened. I lost a baby before, and now I've lost another. Why does this keep happening?"

"Naomi, I know this is hard to hear, but the miscarriage appears to be related to something you ingested. We have been doing all we can to give you the best treatment," the doctor said.

Just then, the door opened and Vivian walked in, her high heels clicking on the tiles. She was stunning as always, dressed in a chic designer outfit that hugged her figure. Her blond hair cascaded in perfect waves, and her presence seemed to light up the room.

Vivian was Naomi's best and only friend, someone she cherished deeply. To Naomi, Vivian was like a sister. Despite Vivian's wealthy background as the illegitimate and second daughter of Elijah Brook, she had chosen Naomi as her closest confidant.

"Good morning, doctor," Vivian greeted him with a sigh before turning her attention to Naomi. "Oh, Naomi," she said, her voice breaking as she rushed to her friend's side. "I'm so sorry for what happened. I can't imagine my life without you. We're sisters, and we need each other."

Naomi, overwhelmed by Vivian's show of emotion, started to cry as well.

"Nothing is going to happen to me, Vivian. Please don't cry. It breaks my heart to see you in tears."

Vivian smiled through her tears, wiping them away. "I'm just so scared for you," she said softly. "How are you feeling?"

Naomi managed a weak smile, appreciating her friend's concern. "I'm okay, Vivian, I'm just happy to have you here with me."

Vivian's expression softened. "Of course, I'll always be here for you. We'll get through this together."

Naomi nodded, feeling grateful for Vivian's support. "What about Josh? How is he doing? Is he with his nanny?"

Josh was Vivian's one-and-a-half-year-old son. Two years ago, Vivian had visited Naomi and shared the news of her pregnancy. When Naomi asked who the father was, Vivian, who had been dating a famous actor at the time, confirmed it wasn't him and requested that no one question her about the father. Naomi had respected her best friend's wishes without hesitation.

Vivian smiled. "Josh is doing well. He's with his nanny and is safe."

Naomi felt a wave of relief. "I'm glad to hear that."

Vivian then asked, "Has Dominic come by to check up on you?"

Dominic was Naomi's husband of two and a half years. He had been her crush in high school. Although he had never noticed her, when her grandmother announced that she and Dominic had been betrothed since birth, Naomi was overjoyed. Marrying Dominic was the best decision she had ever made, and she dedicated herself to making him happy, believing in his love for her. Despite her grandmother's passing, she clung to the memory of that promise.

Naomi's face fell slightly. "No, he hasn't been by yet," she admitted.

Vivian's lips curled into a subtle, satisfied smile, but Naomi didn't notice. "I'm sure he'll come soon. You should get some rest," Vivian began.

But before she could finish, the door to Naomi's hospital room opened. A tall man with broad shoulders and black eyes entered the room. Wearing a sharp suit that accentuated his commanding presence-Dominic.

Naomi managed to utter in a weak voice, "Dominic Carson..." The first grandson of Sophia Carson, one of the wealthiest families in Los Angeles, smiled at her. His eyes flicked briefly at Vivian, and he gave her a subtle wink.

"My love, how are you feeling today?" he asked, walking towards Naomi to give her a kiss on the forehead.

Naomi's face lit up with love and trust. "I'm feeling better now that you're here," she said, looking at him with adoration.

"Oh, Vivian, you're here. I see you're keeping my jewel company. I appreciate that," Dominic said, turning to Vivian.

Vivian brushed a strand of hair off her face, revealing a diamond ring on her finger. Naomi gasped, then started to cough, a sign of her illness. Dominic patted her back gently.

"Are you okay, my love? Should I call the doctor?" he asked, his tone filled with fake concern.

Naomi shook her head, smiling weakly. "No, I'm fine. I'm just happy that both of you are here with me. Very soon there will be a little one among us."

Dominic's eyes widened in shock. "Wait, what? I thought you lost the baby? How is the baby still alive?"

Naomi smiled, confused by his reaction. "Why do you sound offended? I was pregnant with twins. One of the babies died, but the other is still alive. The doctor said it was a miracle. We're going to be parents, my love."

Vivian's face contorted briefly into a frown before she replaced it with a smile. She reached out to hold Naomi's hand. "I'm so happy for you, Naomi, you deserve all the happiness in the world."

Dominic forced a smile. "Words can't describe how happy I am to know that I'm going to be a father finally. But what about your health? Being pregnant and having cancer is a lot of stress."

"It's fine, Dominic. All I want is to be called a mother. I've received so many judgmental glances from people because of my inability to give you a child," Naomi said, then remembered the ring on Vivian's finger. "Vivian, you didn't tell me you were seeing someone already."

Vivian chuckled softly, her eyes meeting Dominic's. "After everything that has happened to you, I didn't want to disturb you with my own stories."

Naomi smiled at her friend's understanding. "You're my best friend, Vivian. We're like sisters. I want to be there for you too. Now tell me, who is the lucky man who put that ring on your finger?"

Vivian gave a shy smile, biting her bottom lip. "I wanted it to be a surprise."

Naomi frowned playfully. "I thought we would tell each other everything. Please, I'm curious."

Vivian smirked, a mischievous glint in her eyes. "All I can say for now is that he's someone you know very well."

"Well, if you don't want to say, I respect your decision. But I'm so happy for you," Naomi said.

Vivian and Dominic shared a glance. "My love, I need you to check these documents for me," Dominic said, handing her papers. Ever since Naomi married Dominic, she had been the one advising him and giving him business ideas for the family's company.

To this day, no one except Dominic and Vivian knew that Naomi was the brain behind all of Dominic's brilliant ideas. She was always eager to help her husband.

As soon as Naomi finished checking the documents, Dominic kissed her on the lips.

"Oh, you love birds," Vivian squealed, her eyes gleaming with what appeared to be genuine joy.

"Thank you, my love. You are my happiness," Dominic said to Naomi, his voice tender.

Naomi smiled, feeling deeply appreciated. "I'm just glad I can help. Anything for you."

Vivian wiped an invisible tear from her eye. "I think I should be going now. I have an important meeting to attend, and I'm so sorry I can't stay with you for long."

Dominic looked at her, then suddenly offered, "Let me drop you off."

Vivian smiled politely, shaking her head. "There's no need."

"Really, I insist," Dominic replied firmly. He then turned to Naomi, who was already feeling drowsy.

"You should get some rest, my love."

Naomi smiled sleepily. "I am so lucky to have people like you in my life," she said slowly. "Do you remember what day tomorrow is?"

Dominic looked at her, confused. "What day is tomorrow?"

"Our third-year wedding anniversary," she whispered, her eyes fluttering shut.

Dominic's face tensed momentarily before he forced a smile. "Of course, I remember," he said.

Vivian leaned down, kissed Naomi on the forehead, and patted her gently until she drifted off to sleep.

Once Naomi was asleep, the look in Vivian's eyes changed to one of hatred. "She's asleep," Vivian said, then turned to Dominic. They began to kiss passionately, their bodies pressing close together.

"We can't do this here. What if she wakes up or someone comes in?" Dominic murmured, his eyes closed between kisses.

Vivian kissed him more insistently. "No one is going to come in, and Naomi isn't waking up anytime soon," she whispered.

"Let's go to my house. We'll have all the space to ourselves," Dominic suggested.

"Good idea. I hope she sleeps and never wakes up," Vivian replied, picking up her handbag. Together they left the room.

The following day, Naomi slowly opened her eyes, feeling weak and exhausted. She sat up, only to find herself face-to-face with a nurse.

"Good afternoon, ma'am," the nurse greeted her. Her name tag read Nurse Mary.

"Afternoon..." Naomi asked, raising an eyebrow, "what's today's date?"

"April 19," Nurse Mary replied.

"Has anyone visited me while I was asleep?" Naomi inquired.

Nurse Mary furrowed her brow and thought. "Yes, a man visited you this morning. He looked very worried and angry when he came in. He introduced himself as being related to you."

Naomi's brow furrowed. A man? Who could it be? Was it Dominic? But there was no way Dominic would be looking worried or angry. She was confused and tired of thinking.

"What is his name? Did he call himself my husband?" Naomi asked.

Mary gave a small smile. "I only know what my colleague told me. I was on duty this morning. But I can check the register for you to see who has visited today."

Naomi sighed. "There's no need. So that man is the only one who visited me today?"

"Yes, he is the only one," Mary confirmed.

Naomi felt a pang of sadness knowing Dominic hadn't visited, especially since today was their wedding anniversary. She forced a smile, thinking maybe he would come around later in the evening.

"Ma'am, I came here because there is an issue," Mary said.

Naomi looked up at her. "What problem is that?"

"Your hospital bills haven't been paid yet, and I have been told to vacate you from the room," Mary explained.

Naomi looked at her in confusion. "What do you mean by that? My husband came yesterday."

Mary hesitated before speaking. "The bill hasn't been fully paid, so we can't continue having you in this room and providing treatment."

Naomi was more than shocked and confused by this revelation. Did it mean that Dominic hadn't paid her hospital bills even though he was there yesterday? Or did he forget to pay them?

"I will call my husband. Thank you for telling me," Naomi said to Mary, who then left.

Naomi looked around and realized she didn't have her phone.

"Nurse Mary, are you still there?" she called out, but there was no response. She looked around, wondering why there wasn't any emergency bell to press.

Tears started streaming down her face. "Why is this happening to me? Why..."

Slowly, she climbed out of bed, careful not to fall. She held onto the IV pole for support as she made her way toward the door, determined to find a phone to call Dominic.

Chapter 2 Go Home and see for yourself

Naomi slowly walked out of the hospital room, her steps unsteady as she held onto the IV pole for support. The hospital buzzed with activity-nurses rushed by pushing carts, doctors discussed cases in hushed tones, and the steady beeping of medical equipment filled the air. The sterile smell of disinfectant was pervasive, and the fluorescent lights cast a harsh glow on the white walls.

As she made her way toward the elevator, something caught her attention.

She saw a woman who looked remarkably like her grandmother, dressed in a cleaner's uniform. Naomi's heart skipped a beat. No-it wasn't just a resemblance.

It was her grandmother.

But how could that be? Her grandmother was already dead. Was she dreaming?

"Grandma..." Naomi muttered.

The woman turned, as if hearing her, and smiled. Naomi's eyes widened in shock, her legs staggering. It was really her grandmother-she was certain of it.

"Grandma!" she called again.

But the woman began walking away, faster this time. Naomi frowned and tried to follow, turning down one corridor and then another. But she was getting weaker with every step, unable to catch up. She caught glimpses of her grandmother's uniform as the woman disappeared up the stairwell leading to the rooftop.

When Naomi finally reached the rooftop, her grandmother stood there, smiling at her.

"Am I dreaming right now? Is this part of my illness? Am I hallucinating?" Naomi whispered.

"You're not dreaming, and you're not hallucinating, Naomi. This is real. I am here to give you a second chance at life," Grandma Lucia said gently.

Naomi's brow furrowed. "But Grandma, you're dead. I saw them bury you. How... how can you be standing in front of me?" Her voice trembled with confusion and longing.

Grandma Lucia chuckled softly. "Who said anything about being alive? I'm still dead, my angel. I'm here only to give you a second chance in life. I can't help but feel guilt and regret-I was the one who brought all these lies and deceits into your life."

Naomi blinked, shivering as the wind blew across the rooftop. "What do you mean? I don't understand."

"I can't keep watching you be taken advantage of. I can't watch my precious angel die at the hands of those she trusts the most. It's all my fault. If I hadn't agreed to the betrothal, none of this would have happened. They're killing you slowly, Naomi," Grandma Lucia said.

Naomi stared at her. "Those I trust? Are you talking about Dominic and Vivian?" She gave a bitter laugh. "Now I know this isn't real. You're just a symptom of my illness. My husband and my best friend would never harm me."

"I'm here to give you a second chance. Go home and see for yourself the true nature of those you think love you. You don't deserve what's happening. You've suffered enough. Show them that you're not someone to be fooled or destroyed," Grandma Lucia urged.

Naomi shook her head. "I get it. But you're wrong-Dominic loves me, and so does Vivian. She's been my best friend since high school. Let's not talk about this anymore. I miss you, Grandma... I miss your stories, your hugs." Her eyes filled with tears. "I just want to hug you right now."

With all her strength, Naomi ran to embrace her grandmother. To her shock, she felt the solid warmth of her arms-but only for a fleeting moment. Slowly, her grandmother faded into the wind.

"Go home, Naomi. Go home and see for yourself. You'll get a second chance at life-one filled with genuine love and true happiness," Grandma Lucia whispered as she vanished.

Naomi gasped, her hands covering her mouth. Was this real? Of course it was-she had hugged her grandmother, she was sure of it. Or maybe she was going crazy. Either way, she needed to call Dominic immediately.

When she reached the reception desk, she saw two women at the counter. One had a name tag that read Diana.

"Good afternoon, ma'am. How can we help you? Is anything wrong?" Diana asked.

"Good afternoon, Diana. Why wasn't there an emergency bell in my room?" Naomi asked.

"It's the cheaper private room, ma'am," Diana explained. "We were told by your guardian it wasn't necessary. They said you could use your phone instead."

Naomi's heart sank. Why would Dominic do that?

"Thank you for clarifying. Please-can you lend me your phone? I really need to call my husband. It's urgent," Naomi said.

Diana handed her the phone. Naomi thanked her and quickly dialed Dominic's number. Her heart pounded when the line came back unreachable.

"What's going on?" she whispered.

"Is there any problem, ma'am?" Diana asked.

"No... thank you," Naomi replied, her voice trembling.

How could Dominic's phone really be unreachable? And how was she supposed to pay her hospital bills without money or her purse? Clenching her fists, Naomi realized she had no choice but to call her father-the last person she wanted to turn to.

He had never shown her love, not even when she was diagnosed with cancer. Still, she dialed. He picked up on the second ring.

"Hello?"

"Dad, it's me. Naomi."

"You who?" her father snapped.

"Naomi," she repeated.

"Oh-you're still alive," her father scoffed.

Naomi frowned in disbelief. "What does that mean?"

Her mother's voice came faintly in the background. "Honey, don't say that. She's our daughter."

"Why shouldn't I say it? Isn't it true? She'll die soon anyway. She lost the babies, now she has cancer, and she can't even give Dominic an heir," William sneered.

"How can you be so heartless?" Veronica cried. "She needs us more than ever!"

Naomi's throat tightened with tears. "I was calling to tell you I need to pay my hospital bills. My husband-" She stopped when she heard her father's voice again, muffled as he spoke to her mother.

"If she dies, we'll just marry Aurora off to Dominic. My mother and his grandmother made a promise to keep the families bound. If the elder daughter is gone, the younger will replace her."

Naomi broke down, ending the call as tears streamed down her face. The receptionists exchanged pitying looks. They all knew who she was-the wife of Dominic Carson, grandson of Sophia Carson. Why was his wife crying like this?

Her father had always been cruel, a drunk, abusive, and controlling. Her mother lived in constant fear, never daring to oppose him. Naomi had begged her to leave, but she never did.

Wiping her tears, Naomi remembered her grandmother's words. Go home and see for yourself.

Yes, she would go home. But how? She had no money, no transport, and she was sick. She placed her hand gently on her flat stomach.

"Nothing is going to happen to you, little one," she whispered.

"Naomi?"

She turned to see Jasmine-the last person she expected. Vivian's estranged older half-sister. Vivian had always painted Jasmine as arrogant, cruel, and narcissistic.

Naomi forced a smile. "Jasmine... it's been years. What are you doing here?"

"I'm a surgeon at this hospital," Jasmine replied, her face showing genuine concern. "But I didn't expect to see you like this. You... you have cancer, right?"

Naomi frowned. "Yes. What-are you mocking me? Do you think I'm going to die soon, like my father does?"

Jasmine's expression softened. "No. I'm not mocking you, Naomi. I'm concerned. I know what Vivian's told you about me, but I'm not like that. I don't want trouble-I want to help."

Naomi narrowed her eyes. "Help? Why would you want to help me?"

"Because I care," Jasmine sighed. "I'm a doctor, and it's my duty to help. And right now, you look like you need it."

Naomi hesitated. Exhausted, torn by betrayal and confusion, she almost wanted to believe her. "I tried calling my husband... his number is unreachable. They said my hospital bills haven't been paid."

"I can help with that," Jasmine said firmly. "Come with me to my office. We'll figure it out."

Naomi reluctantly followed. The walk was slow, her body leaning on the IV pole for support.

"I'm sorry for what you're going through," Jasmine said softly. "I can't imagine how hard this must be."

Naomi stayed silent, her mind haunted by Dominic, Vivian, and her father's words. Something was terribly wrong.

They reached Jasmine's office, a small but tidy space filled with books and photos. Jasmine gestured for Naomi to sit. Picking up her desk phone, she said, "Let me try calling your husband for you."

Naomi nodded, too drained to argue. Jasmine dialed, waited, then shook her head. "Still unreachable."

"Do you have any other family or friends you can call?"

Naomi's mind went blank. She felt utterly alone. Then her grandmother's words echoed again: Go home and see for yourself.

"I need to go home," Naomi said suddenly, her voice steady.

Jasmine looked surprised, then nodded. "Okay. I'll arrange a car to take you. But promise me you'll come back if you feel worse."

Naomi nodded. "Thank you, Jasmine. I promise."

Within minutes, a hospital car was ready. At the exit, Jasmine handed her a card.

"This is my personal number. Call me anytime you need help."

Naomi took it, her fingers trembling. "Thank you, Jasmine."

"Take care, Naomi. Remember-you still have people who care about you."

Naomi stepped into the car, the weight of the day crushing her. As it pulled away, she looked out the window, her mind racing.

She had to go home. She had to uncover the truth-no matter how painful it might be.

Chapter 3 A Life built on Lies

Naomi stepped out of the car, thanking the driver with a weary smile. She turned to face the house, a sense of dread mingling with hope.

Why would her grandmother appear to her with such a warning if it wasn't true? But a part of her clung desperately to the belief in her husband, Dominic, and best friend Vivian's loyalty.

With a deep sigh she opened the gate and walked towards the main door. As she stepped inside, the familiar warmth and comfort of her home enveloped her, momentarily easing her doubts.

She smiled, trying to push away the nagging thoughts. The house was quiet, almost eerily so, and Naomi's footsteps echoed softly as she made her way down the hall. She paused at the doorway of the living room.

Hearing muffled voices coming from the master bedroom, her heart began to pound as she recognized Dominic's voice. Curiosity and an annoying fear propelled her forward.

She moved silently, her breathing shallow, as she approached the slightly ajar bedroom door. She heard Vivian's unmistakable laughter, followed by Dominic's deep voice.

Naomi's heart clenched. She pushed the door open a fraction more, peeking inside. The sight before her was like a knife to the heart. There on the bed were Dominic and Vivian.

Entangled in an intimate embrace, Dominic's hands roamed over Vivian's body as she arched towards him, their expressions filled with passion and abandon.

Naomi's breath caught in her throat. She felt as if the ground had been ripped out from under her. Her grandmother's words echoed in her mind.

Go home and see for yourself. Tears blurred her vision as she watched the scene unfold, disbelief and betrayal crashing over her. Her body felt heavy, her legs weak, but she couldn't tear her eyes away.

The people she trusted most in the world were betraying her in the worst possible way.

Dominic's voice broke through her stunned silence. "You're amazing, Vivian. I can't believe we had to hide this for so long."

Vivian's laugh was soft, seductive. "Soon Naomi will be out of the picture, and we won't have to hide anymore."

Their voices, once comforting, now dripped with betrayal and malice.

"I can't wait to finally be your legal wife," Vivian said, her voice filled with twisted joy. "Josh won't have to be a bastard anymore."

Naomi's heart stopped. What? What did she just say? Josh-Vivian's son-was Dominic's child.

The room spun as Naomi tried to comprehend the depth of the betrayal. For how long had these deceits been going on?

Her mind reeled, trying to piece together the lies and secrets that had unraveled her life. Tears streamed down her face as she watched the two people she had trusted most in the world entwined in their treachery.

She couldn't believe it.

"Honey, let's wait until she's finally dead." Dominic's voice was cold, calculating. "I was shocked when she told me the babies were twins. How come the pills didn't kill the other baby?"

Naomi gasped into her palm, her body trembling. So they were responsible for her miscarriages all along. Her grandmother had been right.

These were the people she had trusted, loved, and depended on, and they had been plotting against her all this time. Rage and heartbreak surged through her, giving her the strength to confront them.

She couldn't let this continue.

With determined steps she stormed into the bedroom. The sight of them together, their expressions of shock and guilt as they noticed her, only fueled her anger.

"How could you?" Naomi's voice shook with emotion, but her eyes burned with fury. "How could you do this to me?"

Dominic and Vivian scrambled to disentangle themselves, their faces pale.

"Naomi, it's not what it looks like," Dominic stammered, trying to approach her.

"Not what it looks like?" Naomi laughed bitterly, tears streaming down her face. "I heard everything. Everything! You planned to kill me, to take my life and my children.

And Josh-he's your son, Dominic. How long have you been lying to me?"

Vivian's face twisted with anger and disdain. "You were always so naïve, Naomi. It was easy to fool you."

Naomi's heart shattered further at the cruel words. "I trusted you-both of you-and you betrayed me in the worst way possible."

Dominic tried to reach for her, but Naomi stepped back, her eyes blazing with a strength she didn't know she had. "Don't touch me. I want you out of my life-both of you."

Dominic's face hardened. "And where will you go, Naomi? You're sick. You need me."

"I'd rather die alone than live another day with your lies," Naomi spat, her voice filled with fight, with no room for argument.

Vivian rolled her eyes and scoffed. "What? It's not like anyone wanted to die with you anyway. It's obvious you'll die alone."

Naomi's heart clenched at Vivian's cold words. "Vivian-you really... you have been having an affair with my husband?" Her voice was filled with hurt and disbelief. Her eyes widened in realization.

"The ring? He was the one that gave it to you. Right now I understand everything. For how long has this been going on?" Her voice shook with rage and betrayal.

Vivian smirked. "It seems you're not that dumb after all. Yes, Dominic was the one who proposed to me, and we were behind all your miscarriages. This affair started two nights after your wedding. Crazy, isn't it? Don't worry, I'll fill you in on every little detail of our affair if you're interested in knowing.

I informed Dominic that I was carrying his child on the day of your first-year wedding anniversary. Remember the silly excuse he told you about how he couldn't make it home because of an issue? It was all a lie. He was with me at the Grand Plaza Hotel, and we were celebrating my pregnancy.

Oh Naomi, you're just so stupid. You even treated my son like he was yours."

Naomi's face twisted with a mixture of shock, pain, and betrayal. Her eyes darted between Dominic and Vivian, her mind reeling from the enormity of their deceit.

These two people who she had trusted with her life had been conspiring against her all along.

They were nothing but heartless, deceitful monsters.
