Chapter 1 THE SWITCH

"What's wrong honey," Ivan softly asked, his hands slowly wrapping her waist, making her lean on him rather than the balcony railing.

"She is all I think about, she is always with you in the daytime, your grandfather loves her more than me, I just want her gone, I don't want to share you with anyone, I barely have time with you during the night," Catherine burst out, her voice filled with frustration as she spoke.

"I can always plan another vacation," he paused, unable to finish his words as she glared at him.

"You have been with me for three years, managing the situation. In a short while, my grandfather will transfer the company to me and I can get rid of her. I love you Cathy and very soon we'll be together, just us, so just wait, a little bit longer," he pleaded.

"I don't want to," She bluntly refused. "Okay, then what about she is in a coma for the one month or so that is remaining," he brought up, capturing her interest.

"What do you mean coma?" She finally asked. "Truck drivers tend to fall asleep while driving and your sister, comes back really late, she gets hit, so badly that it keeps her in a coma but not dead,"

"Or maybe we can then kill her after, I will have the accident plan and it would be natural without my grandfather suspecting us," He whispers, feeling relief when he sees her smile.

"I love you," Catherine muttered, her hands seductively running down his face. She led him to kiss, and their tongue tangled in.

"STOP STOP STOP!!

I screamed at Mia, fully awake, as Mia laughed. "I wonder how long you were going to pretend to be faking sleep," Mia mocked.

"I hate you," I playfully scorned her. "Sadly I hate that book more," I continued. "I remember when you first bought it, Mia, let's get this book, the main lead has the same name," Mia said, mimicking my voice.

"Firstly, I don't sound like that, secondly Claire in that book, was stupid, letting her sister take the credit for saving him, loving a man like him, giving him company, staying with him even though she knows he was slowly killing her, then being a surrogate hoping it would buy her more time, she was stupid in love, something I will never be, I can't believe I wanted my time," I burst out with frustration, using up my every little energy I had left.

"If there is anything I will regret doing, it is reading that book," I quietly mumbled. The atmosphere quickly turned quiet.

"You are dying Claire, in less than an hour or so, my best friend will be gone and I don't know how my life is going to be," Mia burst out.

"If only I had pushed you to the hospital when you first had your symptoms, if only...,"

"Shh," I quietly mumbled, my hands on her lips, stopping her. "Am dying of cancer, no matter how you dragged me to the hospital, I won't have the money to have treated it, so don't blame yourself,"

"I am thankful I have a best friend like you, now I don't want you crying, I don't want the last time I see is your tears," I begged, her hand weak placed on Mia. She nodded, finally accepting my wish.

"The only thing I would regret was reading that book," I managed to joke a little, reducing the tension in the room. "You didn't even read to the end, you should stop regretting the book, maybe it's time to let your hatred go," Mia advised.

"No, I would have done things differently, that's Claire is not me, she doesn't deserve to even answer Claire," I tried arguing but my body was growing weak.

"You should stop talking, the machine," Mia pointed out, her eyes finally realizing how weak my body had become.

I knew she wanted to cry, so I looked away, now staring at the window, watching the sun from outside. I watched Mia go get a doctor, wondering why she was going through those pointless troubles.

Closing my eyes, I opened them once again, finding the book by my side, my weak hands pushing it off the bed but it didn't fall off like I wanted, it only stayed at the edge.

"I wasted my time reading you," I mumbled quickly, finally closing my eyes as the machine fell silent.

"I am free now, the pain is gone," I muttered, closing my eyes. But then the realization hit me, I didn't want to die, I was only making myself seem okay because of Mia.

"Claire," I heard my name being called. A soft voice. "Help me, Claire," it pleaded.

Her soft voice was followed by a series of pictures, almost like someone else's memory.

Although the memory was strange, It felt like I knew this person. I could also feel the pain.

All of a sudden, it stopped, the last I saw was a crash.

The sound of the door opening and shutting draws my attention. It somehow felt like I was alive again.

"This can't be right," I thought, opening my eyes, and finding herself in the hospital but in a different room, one that resembles a VIP suite.

My eyes were fully awake, and the weakness I once felt was gone, it was almost as if I was in a healthy body.

"You are awake," A male voice asked, I slowly turned my head to find a dashing young man, standing in front of me.

His eyes filled with surprise but he quickly calmed himself. "And the doctor said you were not supposed to wake up for another three months," He muttered in disbelief.

"Excuse me, but who are you?" I asked, cutting him short. His eyes instantly filled with worry. "Mrs. Gold, are you alright," he asked, almost immediately, ignoring my questions.

"Mrs Gold," I repeated. "My name is Claire and am not married,". "Where is Mia and why am I in a different hospital bed," I went on with my question.

"Who is Mia? Mrs. Claire Reed Gold, do you know where you are," He asked. The name sounds familiar.

"Am Kelvin, Mr. IvanGold'sd secretary," He finally introduced. "Kelvin, the Kelvin in the book, the proud arrogant Mr. Gold,"

"Mia, you can come out now, your prank not helping," I yelled in disbelief, but his face says it all.

Slapping myself continuously, made the pain real, and made me realize this wasn't a joke, it wasn't a prank either, somehow I have been made the main character of the book I once hated, the CEO VILLAIN WIFE.

Chapter 2 THE DIVORCE

I don't know who plans it was, making me the main character but things are going to be chaotic as hell.

I am a main character with one of the biggest companies, but first I need to get the company from him, I will need to put people in their place, and I would need justice for this character.

"Kelvin, get the car ready, I want to go home," I ordered, standing up. Finally, I can boss people around, fluent my money.

"Mr. Ivan is not around so,". .. "I meant my house Kelvin, my villa, my home," I corrected, he looked surprised but nodded, giving me clothes to wear, and we drove off.

I could finally see the city in the book, it was beautiful, the rich island where only the wealthy can stay and there it was my private home.

I wonder why she felt lonely in something as glamorous as this. "Just wait for me, I would only take an hour," I said, entering inside.

Using the memory of the book description, I found my room quickly, having a well-deserved bath and getting dressed. The old character dresses too simply, never exploring the curve she had but not me.

I picked a red gown with a rather provoking slit at the side. A nice pair of black heels and doing my hair into a bun.

I looked classy, and rich, the way I have always wanted to dress. Returning to Kelvin, I laughed when his jaw dropped, staring at the new me.

"Take me back to Ivan, I know he is in the city, take me to where he is," I instructed, ignoring Kelvin and entering the car.

"Kelvin, you are finally back, I told you to check up on her and not," he paused, now seeing me in the back seat.

I am sure he was hell-surprised to see me awake, I was supposed to be sleeping for another two months or so. Till they realized Catherine couldn't give birth and I was made a surrogate.

"Hi husband," I greeted with a cunning smile. "Hi bitch," I wave at my sister, walking past them and entering the villa.

"Watch what you call her," he warned. "Speak to me with respect Ivan, or else I will call your grandfather and tell him how you are not ready to lead the company," I threatened, my words seemed to have calmed him down.

"You have finally shown your true self," he grimaced. "No, I am finally living like the villain you guys paint me as," I corrected.

"Speaking of which, I came here to tell you one thing," I paused, looking at my sister and then at him.

"I want a divorce," I announced, grinning when I saw the look on their face. "Is this another plot for you to win me because it's not going to work," He muttered.

"You give yourself too much credit, I saw a homeless man and with the right haircut and dress, he would thrice as handsome as you," I cut in.

Catherine walked to me, her hand in the air, raising them to hit me but I was fast, stopping her hand with my left and slapping her with my right, and again and again, till she struggled to break free and I finally let her go.

Her balance was weakened, thus she fell, her butt hitting the floor. "I was going to get to your turn but since you so wanted attention, I will give it to you,"

"Catherine, you are to leave my house, you are not to take anything because they were brought with my money, you have twelve hours and if I were you, I would go and start packing," I warned, smiling sweetly in response to her glare.

"You are serious," Ivan noted, his eyes now staring at me. "Kelvin, take Catherine outside," He instructed, leaving us alone.

"Why the sudden divorce, I thought you claimed forever," he questioned. "I just realized, that forever with an ungrateful human like you wasn't something I could do,"

"How can I only fall in love with you after saving you, it wasn't worth it," I explained.

"Save me, it was your sister that saved me, not you," He corrected, my eyes looking at him, before I went to shut the curtains, leaving the room dark.

When I was sure everywhere was secure, I took off my clothes, revealing the injuries as a result of that night.

"Your Catherine doesn't have it, yet you don't question her," I mumbled. Of course later in the book, when I agreed to the surrogacy, he had seen the scar.

I knew he ordered someone to check that night but when the person confirmed the truth, that the old Claire saved him, she was already on her deathbed, dying after looking at her son.

Am not going to wait till I'm dead to reveal the truth. "I don't believe it," he muttered in disbelief.

"Give me the necklace, I told you I would ask for it," I demanded, his eyes now filled with the realization, as I put on my clothes back.

"I was in a coma recovering while my sister took the credit, you were dumb, someone stabbed to the point of death was better within a week, running after you and worse having no mark of the scar," I muttered.

"How did I fall for someone so dumb?" I asked, referring to the old Claire. "I want a divorce," I said, reminding him of the reason I was here.

"We can't get a divorce," he calmly stated. "Why, I know you have a divorce paper on your nightstand, I know this accident was planned by you to get rid of me and if I don't leave now, I will die by your hands or else, you really want to kill me," I question, my eyes now staring at me.

"In a month, grandfather will be giving me his company, just wait till then and I will divorce you," He says.

"You either have to bribe me or beg me, but don't you try to command me, Ivan, I can announce our divorce to the press," I threatened.

"So what do you want?" He asked in return. "My company, you will transfer my company and everything I gave you back to me," I replied, his eyes staring at me in disbelief.

"Which is it going to be, accepting my demands or announcing it publicly?" I asked, resting my back while glaring back at him.

Chapter 3 PRETENSE IS MY MIDDLE NAME

"I didn't know you were this feisty Mrs. Gold," he muttered. "Claire," I corrected. "I don't associate myself with you," I reminded.

"Fine, pretend with me for a month and I will have the company back to you," he agreed.

"I will have the contract prepared tomorrow," I said, now standing up. "I have one last thing to do," I muttered, standing up and calling May to hold a press conference.

"You said you won't announce the divorce," he warned at the entrance. "I did, but this conference has nothing to do with you," I muttered, pushing his hands off mine.

As I walk out, I grin at my sister, whose curious eyes glare at me. The redness of her cheek made me feel fulfilled.

"I should have slapped her more," I mutter. But I paused, realizing I didn't know how to drive but the old Claire did.

"Kelvin, you will be my chauffeur for the day please," I stated. "Why don't you drive yourself," Ivan called out.

"Thanks to the accident you caused, I am too scared to drive," I lied. He didn't say a word, he just watched me leave with Kelvin.

"If you want I can get you a driver ma," Kelvin said when we got in, his eyes always glancing at me from time to time.

"To my office," I mumbled, resting on my back. "I want good food," I mumbled, enjoying a five-star steak, or making dinner and sipping red wine.

"We are here," Kelvin announced, his voice waking me up. Somehow I had dosed off while thinking about food.

"Thank you, I won't waste time," I mumbled, going out to meet May, who was already waiting for me. The press conference was ready, with their cameras flashing and the media watching.

Standing on the podium, I looked into the eyes of everyone. Most of them probably hated me, thinking I wasn't deserving of her marriage with Ivan.

But now, I plan on being the villain I was painted as. "From this moment, I disown my family," I announced.

"I refuse to go by Claire Reed and refuse to associate myself with them, I am also cutting off their expenses and anyone who does business with them, in hopes of linking with me, stands alone," I further announced.

In the past, the old Claire's father was involved with illegal trade and had begged his daughter to take the fall, going ahead to blame her company without her permission. This made her lose everything, there is no way I am letting that happen to me.

The flashes increase, as they draw close to me, demanding questions. Luckily, Kelvin was there, clearing the road for me to pass.

I sighed in relief once I entered the car. "To the mall please, I need to go grocery shopping," I announced with him nodding.

He followed me into the mall, for reasons I didn't know. Using this opportunity, I took a lot of expensive red wine, raw beef and chicken, minced meat, caviar, black truffle, and a lot of expensive stuff, a lot of fruits and berries, and lastly added cup noodles, flour, and other baking things I would be needing.

My tray was full, it was the first time I was shopping without a budget. All I had to do was swipe my card, be treated as a VIP client in the mall, and be helped to carry my item to the car while I watched.

"Thank you for today, Kelvin," I warmly greeted once he brought the last thing inside. "You feel different," he noticed.

"I feel free," I corrected, handing him a glass. "Can't drink, I would be driving," he declined. "Maybe next time," he muttered to which I nodded.

I quickly began to make dinner. The sizzling noise of the steak made me happy. I also get to enjoy red wine while I cook.

Making creamy mashed potatoes to go with the medium-rare steak, while I play loud music.

I was too busy with my meal, I didn't notice the intruder until he was standing face-to-face with me. His grin as he finally got my attention and I couldn't help but scream.

"Calm down Claire," he says but then laughs. "What the hell?" I exclaimed. "You can't knock," I snapped.

"I did ring the doorbell a few times, but the music didn't make you hear it," he explained.

"And you think you are welcome to my house, If I didn't hear the doorbell you should have waited outside or probably didn't come because, in the first place, you are not welcome here," I yelled.

"You hate me that much," he muttered in disappointment. Ivan was standing in front of me, with his eyes filled with disappointment.

"Oh stop your acting, it's not like you care whether I hate you or not, which leads me to why are you here?" I demanded.

"I don't understand, we are married, can't I be here?" He asked. A little chuckle escaped my lips.

Turning off the gas, I head to my door and open it. "If you are going to say that crap, then get the fuck out of my building," I warn, pointing to the door for him to leave.

"You have changed," he muttered. "But am here for something more serious," He said, taking his seat.

"I don't remember me allowing you to seat, after all the first day we got married, you didn't let give me a bed, you made me stand till the next day in the sitting room,"

"You want to repay that?" He asked, utterly astonished. "Am not as evil or heartless as you," I replied, closing my door and heading back to the kitchen, to serve my food.

Because he was around I was forced to serve food to him, not because of anything but I remember Mia's words of always sharing, regardless of who the person is to you.

"This is beautiful," He muttered, once he had a bite. "Well I was supposed to be offered a scholarship in culinary school before I found out I had cancer, I was a good cook and always will be, irrespective of the body.

"Thank you but I didn't need your approval," I grumbled. "Why are you here, don't make me ask you again?" I said, taking a bit of my juicy steak.

"You might have to move in with me," he says, as I stare at him. "And why?" I questioned.
