Mariah took off for the hospital as early as she could, she had an appointment with her doctor, she did a test and the results were out. It was the sixth hospital she visited that month, she needed to find out if she was barren, as that's what all the hospitals she visited said. She was at the hospital but her doctor didn't get around, due to some untold reasons so she had to wait for him at the reception. There she heard her phone ring, "Hello," it was Caitlyn wood over the phone "Hello Mariah, how are you?" "I'm good and you?" Mariah asked.
"Where are you now?" "At the hospital," "Okay!" Caitlyn said coldly. Though Mariah was stressed about her results, she noticed Caitlyn was cold towards her, Mariah knew she was troubled. The usual Caitlyn was always joyful but her last call never reflected that joy. Being curious, she asked what was going on, and Caitlyn who could not tell her what she saw over the phone asked to meet her as soon as she was done at the hospital, "you are getting me worried now, I hope it is not something serious?" Mariah asked as she was afraid. "Hey I can't promise you anything but we'll talk about that later when you come over." Caitlyn voiced out. Mariah dropped the call and in a few seconds, the doctor walked into the hospital, he noticed Mariah had been waiting on him for so long "Hey Mrs. Easton, I'm sorry for the delay, we may now go to my office," Mariah followed the doctor to his office hoping to get positive results. Once in his office, he removed the kept document which was under some files and handed them over to Mariah, before she opened it, she made the sign of the cross and later on opened it, but the results were still the same, it stipulated that she was barren. Troubled about this, she sank into depression. "Hey madame doesn't let this bother you, the doctor said while consoling her. "You don't know what just a child stands for me, or what it represents for my husband and mother-in-law," Mariah said in tears. "I think you can discuss with your husband and his mom, they might want to consider adopting kids, today we have numerous kids that have been abandoned, and you adopting them won't be a bad idea." Mariah never took the doctor's idea seriously, because she knew it was a no-go area, Jane was a woman of principle and would never have accepted such, neither would her husband. He always said having his baby was his priority and not raising someone else's child, she knew she had to keep suggestions as such far from them. She left the hospital all disappointed and contacted her friend Caitlyn who wasn't leaving far away from the hospital. She arrived home all tired and desperate, "I guess the results are still the same as previously?" "Yes!" Mariah said gently. "So what did you have to tell me that you couldn't say over the phone?" Caitlyn got worried when Mariah needed to know why she called on her. Seeing her in that state, she could not reveal to her that she met her husband and her half-sister at the hotel spending some quality time together, she had to lie so she could keep a joyful face. "Hey you know I'm the funny type, I called because I wanted to see you and I knew expressing myself in that tone was going to make you pass by." "Okay if you say so, cause I was afraid," Mariah mumbled. It hurt Caitlyn lying to Mariah but for the sake of peace and her tranquility, she had no other choice than to tell her a lie. Telling her Neil was cheating on her with Khloe after receiving bad news was going to depress her more. "So tell me, is your husband in the city?" "No, he traveled four days ago for some business reasons and will be back only tomorrow, I don't know how I'm going to inform him that the results are negative," Mariah cried out. "So Neil lied to his wife saying he was on a business trip whereas he is in the city with Khloe, men are cruel," Caitlyn murmured to herself. "What did you say?" Mariah asked as she didn't get what Caitlyn said. "Nothing, don't mind, but I have this question. What if one morning you realize that Neil has been cheating on you with someone really close to you, what will be your reaction?" Caitlyn asked while looking straight into her eyes, waiting to listen to her answer. "Oops! Neil can't cheat on me, besides I don't think he will imagine having a kept woman, my husband loves me so much and has demonstrated it several times, so when it comes to that, I have nothing serious to tell you." Mariah mentioned with a little smile on her face. "If you say so then that's great!" Caitlyn was aggrieved seeing her friend putting all her trust in a man. It therefore sank into her head that she wasn't the one to inform Mariah what she had been hiding away from her. Four hours later, she begged to take her leave, standing and waiting for Caitlyn who dashed into her room to wear something decent so she could escort her to the gate. Mariah's phone rang, just when she checked who was calling, she noticed it was her aunty and she thought she was calling for her pocket allowance. "Hello my daughter," "Hello aunty, please I'm sorry with all the stress I forgot to send some cash for your medications. "That's not why I'm calling darling, where are you now and with who?" Iren asked. "I'm with Caitlyn but I'm on my way home now," "Please sit cause I have something serious to let you know," "What's that, you are scaring me now," Mariah said in fear. "Your husband called me this morning, saying he will be divorcing you, and I thought of letting you know about it." Mariah smiled when she heard this from her aunt. "Which husband are you talking about because it can't be Neil, my husband told me four days ago before traveling that he was madly in love with me, so I'm not sure," Mariah mentioned. Caitlyn was done in her room and was now downstairs, she met Mariah smiling and asked what made her smile and she told her the discussion she just had with her aunt. "And you think that's funny? Your aunt called to inform you of such a decision taken by Neil and instead of verifying if that's true, you are here busy smiling?" "Why shouldn't I? Neil has proven uncountable times that we will always be into me," she mentioned.
Mariah arrived home and found out her luggage were outside, her two maids were equally outside in tears, she asked what was going on and they told her they had been driven away from the house by Jane. Mariah had been outside and tried entering the house but she was denied access by one of her guards. "You won't let me enter into my house?" "I'm sorry madame the others came from Mr. Neil who called this morning, informing us that you were no longer welcomed in his house," "What! Why would my husband portray such litigations, are you sure it's my husband who asked you to do that? Mariah asked.
She knew Jane was well capable of that and more but her husband, she never even thought of that. Jane was at the back door and heard the conversation between the guard and Mariah, she stepped out looking Mariah straight into her eyes, for some time she said nothing but soon she break down her silence and said a few words before getting back to the living room, "I heard you saying you have a house, for your information, this is my late husband's house, Neil has just been his inherent took over the house but I'm more privileged than you okay and secondly you do not believe Neil could do this to you, so you thought after prostituting yourself, you were gonna end with a reputable man like my son? When you are done nagging make sure you collect your luggage out of here," "Mrs. Jane with all your respects, I won't have you call me names, I guess I have tolerated you enough," Mariah said out of anger. On normal days, Mariah never talked back at Jane but out of anger she had to vomit out all that she had been keeping up. As they were exchanging words Khloe stepped out of the house wearing Neil's pajamas, "what are you doing here, and why are you wearing my husband's pajamas?" Mariah asked as she was surprised. "Sis, I'll be the one replacing you as from today, the pajamas are quite beautiful, you made a great choice," Khloe said while smiling. "Remove that now! I'm not your sister and never will I be," Jane was fed up and asked her guards to throw her out of the house, she was pushed out of the house alongside her maids. "I'm sorry madane I really didn't want to do this, but it was either I did it or I was going to lose my job," the guard said. Mariah was a very calm lady, she made sure all the guards and maids were comfortable in the house, if their salaries were delayed, she made sure she discussed about it with Neil so they could come on time, she equally offered advanced payment for staff who had problems, compared to Jane who never really had their time, she always talked to them rudely and never minded to check if they were doing fine. Today the people whom Mariah had spent her time protecting are the same people who did not hesitate to throw her out in the name of orders. Standing by the street and all disturbed, she called Caitlyn and told her everything but unfortunately, Caitlyn wasn't getting anything as she was in tears. "Please calm down and talk to me," Caitlyn said. Mariah had to stop crying and began all over and Caitlyn asked where she was so she could come pick her up, she told her she wasn't far from the house. "Okay just stay there, I'll come pick you up." Caitlyn got out of the house in a hearse to go pick her friend up, she knew if she overstayed she might harm herself. She arrived where Mariah was and found her crying on the floor. She helped her with her luggage and asked them to get to her house, she opened the back of her car and placed Mariah's belongings inside and they entered the car and left for Caitlyn's house. Once in her house, she noticed Mariah was weak so she prepared a drink for her, while she went freshening up. Caitlyn came back down and found Mariah in tears. "Hey girl I know it's not easy but you don't have to let this consume you, please I care about you and will love it if you could move on with your life," Caitlyn said while consoling her. "You don't know what it means Caitlyn, I dedicated five years of my life to this man who just threw me out of his life without thinking about my feelings and he moved on with my half-sister, one of the least people I'll want to see now," "I know it's painful but you shouldn't let that tie you down, you are a courageous woman and I know soon all this will be in the past," "I don't think I can forget this, I still love my husband," Mariah cried out. A knock was heard from Caitlyn's door as they were discussing, "who's that." she said as she wasn't expecting a guest. She moved to the door and opened it. "Hello, I'm Comry, Mr. Neil's lawyer, I was told I could meet Miss Mariah here," "And what do you want from her?" "Can I please have a word with her?" Comry asked. Caitlyn could not refuse him from seeing Marley so she gave him access, he walked in and met Mariah sitting on the floor and asked if they could have a word. Mariah recognized him and asked him to say whatever he had to. "Once more good day, I was sent by Mr. Neil, who ordered me to let you know he'll be demanding for a divorce, here with me I have the divorced papers, he signed already and you are left can you please sign the papers?'' Comry asked looking straight into her eyes. "Are you serious when you want me to sign those papers? You better get to your boss and tell him I'm not going to sign the papers and if he thinks he can get rid of me, he should be joking." Mariah said out of anger.
Hello Miss Edenne, you don't get me Mr.Easton asked me not to come back without you signing the divorce papers so please be kind enough to liberate me," Comry mentioned. "Will you get out of here, and I don't want to ever see you come back here okay, and in case you've forgotten, I'm still Mrs. Watson wife to Neil Easton okay, so you dare not call me miss, you've forgotten so soon that I was the one who gave you the job you are occupying today, and you dare talk to me in that manner, you are just like the others all ungrateful, get out now before I lose my patience," Mariah voiced out.
Comry saw Mariah was tense and rushed out of the house, in her hands, she had this metal cup which at any given moment she could hit it against his head. Mariah reminding Comry how she was the one who made him get that job, brought out some atom of shame in him, a few years ago, when Neil and Mariah just got married, went on a walk and there, they met Comry selling popcorn, and in the case of patronizing him she noticed he was an educated young man through his manner of approach, she needed to know why a graduate was in the streets selling popcorn instead of relaxing in well designed office. She asked more about his education and he said he was a lawyer but was unable to get himself a job, at that time Neil needed a lawyer. Mariah, being a kind lady, linked him to her husband and he became his lawyer. He had been responsible for all his affairs both private and public. He soon forgot about that and did not hesitate to call her miss. Mariah in anger called her husband who was in his car on his way to the house, seeing her call, he assumed she was aware of all that was going on, he only answered the call because he wanted to make sure she had signed the divorce papers. "Hello," "Hello my husband, I received your surprise. You should be kidding if you think you can get rid of me so easily," "What do you want, I'm occupied and I got some few seconds over the phone so be fast about it," Neil mentioned. "Never in your life did you talk to me in such manner, the love you claimed was actually fake right, but I want you to know that I'm not going to sign the divorce papers, we are married and no one, I repeat no one would come in between us, that's what you always said each time I feel depressed and I think you need this words too cause right now you are depressed." "You can't force me to love you, and you will have to sign the divorce papers because I'm done with you," "I'm not done with you!" Mariah said and she dropped the call. Naja was through at work and was on her way home. She arrived home and met Mariah sitting on the floor, "Hey baby girl, what are you doing sitting on the floor? And it seemed like you were crying, is there something I should know?" Naja asked. Caitlyn took her to the room to explain things to her, and before Caitlyn could start, Naja turned her head and met Mariah's luggage in the wardrobe. "What's going on? Why is Mariah's luggage here, did she have a misunderstanding with her mother-in-law?" Naja asked her, it was the only reason which might push Mariah to leave her husband's house. "I wish that was the case, but it's more than that, Neil threw Mariah out of the house, and the worse part of it, he replaced her with Khloe and now he's demanding a divorce," "What! You don't mean that, which of the Khloe's, Mariah's half-sister?" "Yeah!" Naja couldn't believe that Neil could ever do that to Mariah. She thought Neil was in love with her and would never do such a thing to her. Before Neil proposed to Mariah, he pleaded with her to make things easier for him as they were good friends. "I only accepted this marriage because I thought Neil was a responsible man, I won't allow him mock at my friend and I this manner, I have to call him and talk some senses into his head," she took her phone which wasn't far from her and called Neil but he never answered, he was avoiding her calls. Not knowing what to do, she went back to the living room to comfort Mariah who seemed not to be comfortable. "I'm sorry about what happened Mariah, I never knew Neil was gonna behave in such a way, I'm honestly hurt," Caitlyn said. "No, you don't have to feel guilty, it's not your fault if he chooses to behave like an animal instead of facing his falls," Neil arrived home and In anger, he called his lawyer, asking why Mariah was refused to sign the divorce papers. "I'm sorry Sir, she refused to sign the papers and there was nothing I could do, she had a metal cup in her hands and promised to hit it against my head if I didn't step out of the house. "Like I care, listen to me attentively, you have barely two weeks in convincing her to sign those papers. Or else you are going to lose your job, okay?" Neil yelled out. Comry was lost in this situation, as he never knew what to do. On one hand he wasn't willing to destroy the relationship he built with Mariah, on the other hand he never wanted to lose his job. Losing his job was gonna be very fatal for him, as replacing it with another one was gonna be very difficult. Jane overheard her son talking about the divorce papers and asked him if Mariah had refused to sign the divorce papers. "Yes, she refused to sign them," "I told you that this girl was only after your money but you never believed me, now you can see what I said wasn't a lie," Jane said.
