Chapter 1 Untitled

Chapter one

Evelyn POV

The sound of my blaring alarm jolts me out of my deep slumber, and I groan angrily, pulling the duvet over my face. For heaven's sake, can't I have a good sleep even for once? I'm always waking up early, and it's so annoying. Heaven knows that I would've quit this damn job if not that I don't like staying at home doing nothing.

My alarm keeps blaring, and I yank the duvet off my face and sit up on my bed. Reaching out to it lazily, I grab it and throw it across the room. I yawn tiredly and stretched my hands above my head. It's Monday today, and I'm going to be so choked up with work. I better start getting ready now.

With all the strength left in me, I drag myself from the bed and walk sluggishly into the bathroom. I slam the door closed as soon as I step in.

I crash on the wall and ruffle my hair sleepily. My eyes are still so heavy, but too bad that I can't get any more sleep if I don't want to be late for work.

I think I'll quit my job soon. I love my sleep so much that I can't sacrifice it for anything. Although I have been working for three whole years, who said that I'll ever get used to this early morning stress of waking up before everyone else?

Stepping into the jacuzzi, I soak myself under the warm soapy water and scrubs my body slowly.

A few minutes later...

My body feels so cold and I shiver. Forcing my eyes open, I gasp sharply at the sight that welcomes me. I fell asleep in the bathtub.

"Shit!" I curse under my breath as I quickly step out of the jacuzzi and hurry to wash the water off my body, walking into my room afterward.

Stepping into my room, I almost jumped out of my skin after I check the time. It's already 8am, which means that I'm an hour late already. I was met with the shock of my life, it's already almost 8am, and the time. I'm supposed to be in the office as early as 7am. Oh damn! I'm so screwed up. I heard a new CEO is taking over the company today. He's rumored to be arrogant and strict. Getting on a bad page with him on the first day is the last thing I want. Yes, I'm stubborn and can be annoying, but creating a bad impression at first, that's the horrible thing I wouldn't want to think of.

An hour later, I'm all dressed for work. I glance at my reflection for that last time before I finally stride out of my room, not after getting my car keys from the bed.

My name is Evelyn Jones. Twenty-three years old lady. My parents reside in Paris for now for some business project, and I'm here all alone with my nanny, madam Cleopatra. I'm used to it though, not that they ever care about me.

All my life, I'm used to being alone because my parents make their business their top priority. At times I feel like they adopted me because of the way they do treat me. It's too early to think about that now, I don't want to ruin my mood.

I work as an accountant in Turner's enterprise, one of the biggest telecommunication companies in Oklahoma City. I have a boyfriend, his name is Raymond Jared, a young business tycoon. Ray and I have been together for three years, and although we rarely spend time together because of the nature of his job, we love each other so much. He is currently out of the country on a business trip.

Descending the grand staircase, the aroma coming from the kitchen fill my nostrils, and I bet that I must have a taste of that delicious food before going to work. If there's anything I don't joke with, it's food. I don't leave home without eating. I love food more than life itself.

"Good morning, nanny Cleo." I greet her as I walk into the kitchen with a smile dancing on my lips.

"Good morning dear. Did you sleep well?" She glances at me and asks with a smile on her face.

"Yes, I did. What are we having for breakfast, please?" I ask her as I lean against the counter, forgetting that I'm already late for work.

"I packed some food for you. You're already late for work, so you should take it with you," She says, as she reaches out to the food flask that is next to her on the counter. She hands it to me.

"Awww! Thank you. You're always the best," I squeak excitedly and she rolls her eyes at me.

"Alright, see you later. I need to run along now," And with that, I stride out of the kitchen and head straight to the parking lot where my car is parked. I hop in my car and drive out of the house afterward.

The drive to the company wasn't supposed to take me much time, but the horrible traffic jam has me stuck here for the past ten minutes, and there's no hope of getting out of this shit anytime soon. It's annoying. I wonder what those people are doing there that cars are stuck in this hellish traffic. I'm already late and thinking that I was going to be in the office in less than fifteen minutes, here I am in the traffic jam, and have no idea when I'll be out.

"Can you do something about this, huh?" I stick my neck out of the car and press my honk loudly.

The car next to me suddenly whines down the window glass, revealing a young man sitting in the driver's seat.

"Hey, miss can you please keep it down, huh? Don't blow off my eardrums, please," He snaps at me, and I scoff. I'm pissed off already, why the heck is he adding to it? He should've just minded his business, right?

"Damn you, man! You have no right whatsoever to tell me that. So go to hell," I yell at him, and press the honk again.

"Can you move your cars out of the damn way? I'm running late for work!" I stick out my neck through the window again and yell while they all stare at me from their cars like I'm acting a drama. Not that I care though.

The traffic jam was finally resolved after a few minutes, and everyone drive their cars away. A few minutes later, I finally drive into the company and park neatly in the garage. I'm so damn late.

Stepping into the building, my eyes almost popped out of their sockets at the sight that welcome me. What the hell is going on here?

Stepping into our large office, my eyes almost pop out of their sockets as I'm welcomed with a weird sight. My colleagues are all looking different, especially the ladies. They are all dressed nice, smells nice, and they have weird makeup on their faces. Ok what's the celebration today?

Letting out a scoff, I shake my head, walking over to my seat.

"Good morning, Eve," Marian, one of my colleagues greets me with a smile on her face. Marian is the only close person I have in the company, she sometimes comes over to my place to keep me company, and whenever I feel bored at home, I do go over to her house too.

"Hey Marian, how're you doing?" I smile as I turn around to face her but I cringe. She has a weird makeup on her face too. Ok I'm getting curious already, what the heck is going on here?

"What's the celebration today? I mean, you all are wearing some weird makeups, and some nice clothes too. What's going on?" I pout my lips, while whining at her to tell me something.

"Oh please Eve. Don't tell me you don't know what's going on here?" She give me an 'are you serious' look.

For heaven sake, if I know what's going on, I wouldn't be asking her this. I shake my head anyways.

"The CEO is said to have willed the company to his son, and he is coming over to the company today. Like every other persons, I want to look good. Who knows, he may just notice me, and make me his Cinderella," She cups her cheeks dreamily, while smiling like a fool she is.

What the heck is this world turning into? Just when I thought I had seen it all, then new madness keeps surfacing.

"Oh, I see," I shake my head unbelievably, before turning to my computer, and turn it on. Geez! I can't believe even she will join this silly competition or whatever they're doing...

Chapter 2 Untitled

Jayden POV

After having a long bath in the bathroom, I walk back into my room to get ready for work. I walk over to the mirror and stare at my reflection while having a smile on my face, seeing the handsome face staring back at me. What more can I possibly ask for? I mean look at me, I have the most handsome face ever, the most perfect body shape, perfect voice, everything about me is so perfect, and I have many ladies on my lists, both young and old tripping for me, but heck! I don't give a damn about them, I'm not a flirt, so I don't give them attention.

After drooling at my reflection all I want, I chuckle softly, walking over to my cabinet to get my clothes. It takes me almost an hour to get dressed, and when I'm finally done, I pick up my briefcase and glance at my reflection in the mirror for the last time, striding out of my room afterward. Taking one last glance at my reflection, I finally stormed out of the room, not after picking up my briefcase.

My name is Jayden Turner. Twenty-seven years old young handsome business tycoon. Business is what I have passion for all my life, so it's no surprise that I have excelled in many fields of business over the years. My dad resides here in Oklahoma City, and he lately willed his company here to me since he's aging so fast. At first, I didn't like the idea, but knowing that there was no one else that can help him, I had to abandon my company in Australia and traveled down here to take over his company.

Stepping out of my room, I walk through the spacious hallway. I descend the grand staircase, heading to the living room where I meet my dad sitting on the couch and having all his attention on the TV. He's watching the early morning news again. This is what he does every morning. At least, that's what I have noticed about him for the past two weeks that I have been around. The connection between him and the news is inseparable. He loves anything that has to do with news.

"Good morning, dad." I smile heartily at him.

"Good morning, son. Did you sleep well?" He returns the smile as he glances at me, and takes his attention back to the TV almost immediately.

"Yes, dad. I'm off to the company," adjusting my tie with my left hand, I say to him.

"I thought you aren't going to resume today, it's already past 9am," He pulls a surprised look after he checks his wristwatch.

"I had a hectic day yesterday trying to set up some things, so I slept off quite late. See you later dad, I have to be on my way now," And with that, I stride to the door and exit the living room.

I hop in my car and drive out of the compound as soon as I get to the parking lot. The drive to the company was quite stressful as I got stuck in a traffic jam for a few minutes. My day is already messed up by the lady I ran into in the traffic. I pray not to ever see her again. She's so annoying and full of disrespect. Hopping in on one of my cars, I dropped my briefcase on the seat beside the driver's seat, before igniting the car engine, after which I revised and drove out of the compound, and in split seconds, I was already on my way to the company.

After driving for what seem like forever, I finally drive into the company and park in the garage. Stepping out of the car, I look at the building for a few seconds in admiration. I haven't been here in a while, and I must confess that a lot of things have changed in the building.

A middle-aged man of about forty-five to fifty years of age rushes toward me and takes my briefcase.

"Good morning sir," The young man greets me politely.

"Morning," I walk ahead of him to the entrance door and steps into the company afterward. The interior is still looking the same way that it was three years ago when I was here.

"This way, please," The man I still have no idea who he is, directs me to the elevator. A few minutes later, he lead me through the hallway until we get to the door of my supposed office, and he pushes the door open for me to enter.

Stepping into the spacious office, I nod my head in satisfaction. The interior design is really beautiful and eye-catching, whoever designed it must be a pro at this.

"Sir, the staff are all waiting for you to come to address them," the man's voice pulls me back to reality.

"Oh! Alright, I'll be there," I reply to him as I finally turn my attention to him.

"Alright, sir. I'll be right outside your door. Call me if you need anything," And with that, he turns around to go, but I call him back.

"Uhm... What's your name?" I ask him.

"Liam Harper, Sir. I used to be your dad's secretary, but now your secretary," He replies to me, and I nod my head slowly. And who told him that he'll be my secretary now? That's not possible.

"Oh, I see." This is crazy! The fact that he used to be my dad's secretary doesn't mean he must be my secretary, right? I mean, how can I let an elderly man like him work as my secretary? That's not possible.

He bows slightly, and with that, he turns around and finally ambles out of my office.

A few minutes later, I amble out of my office, and as soon I step out, Liam quickly stands up from behind his desk. He better enjoys the rest of his days here. He's leaving soon, and when I say soon, I mean his days here are numbered. I don't care if dad agrees to it or not, but he must leave.

"Oh, you're here Sir. This way, please," He gestures toward the door after he pulls it open and I walk out. He closes the door gently behind him, before leading me away.

After a few minutes walk, taking different routes, he finally pushes the door open, revealing the large office. The office has many computers with many staffs. I couldn't have expected less from a communication center, right?

The staffs quickly stand up and assemble as soon as I walk in, and one of them catches my attention. She looks familiar. What! She's the same lady that got me pissed today. What the heck is she doing here?

Chapter 3 Untitled

Evelyn Jones

The atmosphere suddenly tenses up, and whispers erupt in the office. What in the crazy world is going on right now? They're distracting my attention, and I'm going to lose it if they don't shut their mouth now.

I raise my head to check out where exactly the sounds are coming from, and I shake my head unbelievably, seeing my female colleagues adjusting their clothes. I hope they're not doing this because of the new so-called CEO. Oh, God! Can the time be fast-forwarded so I can leave this damn place and go home?

"Can you all please focus, huh? I'm doing some work here, and for the love of God, you're damn disturbing me," I slam my hands on the desk frustratingly, closing my eyes. Can this day be any good? First, it was that idiot from the traffic jam, and now these my annoying colleagues? Oh, heaven please save me, lead me not into frustration.

Someone nudges my arm, and I snap my eyes open to yell at whoever it is to leave me the hell alone, but I compose myself when I see that the person is Mr. Liam. Thank goodness he's here, I need him to call these fools to order. Can you imagine the nonsense?

"Oh, it's a good thing you're here, Mr. Liam. Can you please tell these silly workers of yours to focus on their work and stop fooling around, huh?" I snap angrily, turning to face him.

"Eve!" He calls sternly and tilts his head to his right-hand side. Looking in the direction, my eyes almost pop out of their sockets at the person that I see. Standing there is the famous businessman and my role model, Jayden Turner. What's he doing here?

I have seen him a couple of times on TV, and I have always liked him. He has always been my inspiration, and I have always looked forward to the day that I'll meet him. I can't believe that my role model is standing before me, he's more handsome in person than on TV.

Still admiring him, I stop abruptly to think. Now that I take a close look at him, he looks familiar. Wait! He was the idiot that pissed me off this morning. Gosh! How could I not have noticed this? But what is he doing here?

"Have we met before?" He asks me, and my eyes widen in shock.

"No, we haven't," I reply to him like the gentle lady I'm not. As much as I'm pissed at him for doing that shit earlier, I can't bring myself to insult my role model. If it were to be someone else, maybe the case would've been different now. He stares at me for seconds, with that expression on his face that shows that he doesn't believe me a bit. He turns his attention from me anyway, and I sigh briefly.

"Hello everyone, meet the new CEO, Mr. Jayden Turner. He'll be taking over the company from his dad, and henceforth, will be our CEO." Mr. Liam finally introduce him to us, and my eyes almost fall out of their sockets unbelievably. How's this even possible? I have been hearing rumors about Mr. Turner's son being an arrogant jerk, and I never imagined that he'll be someone I have known before. What the heck is going on now? Sorry, but this is a big turn-off for me, and I don't think I'm going to favorite him again, not after what he did today.

"You're welcome, Sir," Most of my female colleagues squeak in excitement while giving him a seductive look. Imagine nonsense.

"A lot of things are messed up here, so I'm going to start all over again and set up the company the way I want it to be," He utters in a calm, but cold voice. Normally, he was supposed to at least say a word of greetings to us, but it seems like he's what he was rumored to be.

"A screening is going to be done on each staff, so I'll know who's worthy of staying here, and who's not. I wouldn't want to have many workers here that are not even worth being a cleaner here. Do you all get it?" He further says, and I scoff. Now, this is getting more annoying. For the love of peace, all the workers here were interviewed before we were accepted to work here, why the heck would he insult us in this manner?

"Yes, Sir," They reply to him.

"What's your name?" He finally turns his attention to me after my colleagues are done introducing themselves.

"I'm Evelyn Jones. The head of the marketing department," I reply to him.

"That'll be all for today. Get to work, all of you. Evelyn, meet me in my office," and with that, he turns around and ambles out with Mr. Liam...

Later in his office...

"I presume that you were taught at home that lying isn't a good thing to do, and even if you were not, I guess it's in the company's rule and regulations not to tell lies," He says calmly, not sparing me a glance. His attention is all on his desktop as his hands move the mouse slowly. Maybe he's doing something on the computer, I don't know.

"Huh?" I bat my eyes confusingly.

"Don't you think telling lies has so much negative effect on the company's image?" He asks again, as he finally reclines on the chair, turning his attention to me. Now, I'm getting more confused.

"What do you..."

"You're the one that insulted me this morning, why did you deny it?" He finally asks, and I grunt inwardly.

"What would you have me do, sir? It was your fault that you poked your nose into the business that was not meant to be yours, right?" Exactly what I want to tell him, but I love this job and don't want to get sacked.

"Forgive me, Sir..."

"You should work on your character and manners, Eve. These ill manners won't take you far. You may leave now," As if nothing happened, he turns his attention to the desktop. This is the worst insult of my life. How dare he!
