Evelyn Stone never believed in werewolves-until the night she witnessed one rip through a rival mafia boss. That night, her world turned upside down. Her family, known as the Stones, control the weapons trade in New York. Her father's dying wish? For her to marry into peace with their rival mafia clan, the powerful, secretive Romano family. But there's a catch. Luca Romano isn't just the heir to a criminal empire. He's a cursed Alpha-part of a bloodline bound to the moon, violent instincts, and a past soaked in blood. To the world, he's a businessman. But in the shadows, he rules a pack that obeys only him. Evelyn becomes his bride in a forced alliance, not knowing Luca's secret. He didn't expect to fall for her. And she didn't expect to crave the darkness inside him. But when an old prophecy resurfaces-declaring Evelyn as the "Blood Moon Mate" whose child would either end or enslave the werewolf race-both sides of the war want her dead. And the only man who can protect her... is the monster she's falling in love with. Now, Evelyn must choose: Run from the beast, or rule beside him.

Chapter 1 The Deal

Inside the high-ceilinged study in one of the mansions in Vincent Stone's estate, he poured a glass of liquor, the ice clinking like a threat. His views never left the man across from him.

"I don't like waiting, Mr. Petrov," Vincent spoke, tone down. "Not when I'm delivering cartons of death that cost more than your life."

Petrov, a fat-necked Eastern European in a tiny trench coat, moved in his seat. "The docks are being observed strictly. If you need the firearms to land safely in Italy, we must wait until it's less risky."

Vincent twirled his liquor, then downed it in one gulp. "You keep watching while I move."

Barefoot, Evelyn Stone hurried quietly through the passage, her black hair buried beneath a silk headscarf. She ran her fingers along the cold surfaces, trailing with her senses conscious. She wasn't supposed to be up by this hour of the day.

But she had discovered long ago that in her world, you had to steal the truth if you wanted it. She wanted to know about every deal in her father's clan.

Without making a sound, she stopped by the door where her father was in a meeting with Petrov. She caught sight of her father leaning back through a small crevice, his jaw clenched tight. That was one of those deals going on. She recognized the expression on her father's face. The one before blood, which means he's suspecting the man he's dealing with, and is also angry.

"I want the names of those delaying my shipment. And I want them while they're bleeding." Vincent barked.

Evelyn's breath caught, hearing those words. This seems like one of the bloody deals her father had been involved in. It sounds more than a mere shipment.

She was about to sneak downstairs, where another meeting was being held. Her Uncle, Dmitri Stone, was meeting with the Romano family, a rival gang, for the first time in ten years. And then the hallway's lights began to flicker. Then the power went off.

Everywhere was sucked up by darkness. With her heart hammering her ribs, she slowly retreated from the door.

********

The meeting room downstairs was a tense place. None of them noticed the light had gone out upstairs. The Stone and Romano families had not sat at the same table for ten years. But tonight, they had to. Salvador Romano has finally realized he can't do without Vincent Stone after he had lost too much to incompetent hands. His shipments had been compromised since his only connection had been taken down. Now, he has decided to swallow his pride and ally with Vincent Stone, who controls New York as if he owned it.

The place had mixed smells, the smoke of cigars, and secrets. Staying around the edge, serious-faced and heavily armed fellows protected the two families.

Don Salvatore Romano drew slowly from his cigar, his gaze fixed on Dmitri Stone, Vincent Stone's brother, who sat opposite him like a sleeping bear, silent and watching. Tall and quiet, Luca Romano stood by his father's side, his arms crossed and suit spotless.

In matching charcoal suits, Dmitri's sons, Sergei and Ivan, leaned back comfortably in their chairs. They had been whispering ever since they entered.

Finally, in a gravelly voice, Salvatore said, "Let's stop dancing. We need each other, and that's why we are here. Next week, my ships will arrive. 50 crates. Superior Balkan weapons. Untraceable and clean. I want a smooth landing, and you know that's where you come in."

"And in return?" Dmitri smiled.

"Ceasefire between the two families." Your men stay east, and ours stay west. Our shipments come in without a hitch, and yours do too. There are no bodies in the river or abrupt movements.

"Ours has always been landing safely. Could you please say precisely what you want? peace?" Ivan sneered.

Salvatore squinted his eyes. "I won't call it peace, but rather a business. We both make money; that way, neither of us buries a son."

Luca spoke in a firm, low voice, leaning in a little. "Sergei, you too have enemies around your routes; A war between us and them is possible. So don't act like you don't need us."

"We have dealt with worse." Sergei shrugged.

"You've survived worse. A distinction exists." Luca corrected.

To keep his sons quiet, Dmitri held up a hand. He pounded the table once with his thick fingers. "You want an alliance with us because Victor, your only connection, was taken down. You want our connections working for you. It's like you're asking us to make you members of our family. What will stop you from betraying us?"

Salvatore's smile was thin. "The reality that you need us just as much as we need you."

Dmitri sat back. "Reality, Salvatore is a funny word. It does not exist in our world."

"Then we refer to it as mutual leverage."

There's a hold-up as if the room held its breath.

Dmitri then gave a gloomy laugh. "I'll take your offer into account. But I'm looking for more."

"More?" Salvatore's eyebrows went up.

"Loyalty, sealed by blood." A union between your son and my niece." Dmitri declared.

Luca's jaw tightened. Salvatore's fingers hesitated on his cigar. "That's not necessary," Salvatore remarked icily.

"Necessary," said Dmitri. Blood has a stronger binding power than contracts. I have an obedient niece. She's gorgeous, and she will not meddle.

"She's a pawn," Luca interrupted sharply.

"A queen if you play it right," Ivan added with a smile.

"You claim to desire peace. I demand assurances." Dmitri shrugged.

Salvatore took a deep breath, his lips curling in a smile. "We'll respond to you in two days."

"I anticipate it tomorrow."

Next, then.

BLOOM!

The distant wall of the apartment fell, covering everyone in trash. Chairs tumbled, men roared, and a surveillance signal blared amid the chaos. "Get down!" Another blast shook the building as Sergei shot blindly at the entrance. Ivan cursed in Russian and dodged behind an upturned table.

"We are being set up!" a Romano guard yelled before a bullet hit him. There is smoke all over the room, blood, cries, and flashing lights. Someone had attacked them. "We need to move, now!" Dmitri roared at his sons.

They heard a crash and gunfire upstairs where Vincent's meeting was held with Petrov.

Poo poo poo.

Evelyn hurried away from the scene, her pyjama swirling like clouds, her feet gentle against the surface. Masked men stormed the building, causing screams in the night. Evelyn watched the battle from her hiding place behind a statue. Like flies, guards died.

The marble floors got splattered with blood. A guy in a mask with a flashy neck tattoo yelled orders in Russian. When Evelyn saw the symbol on his neck, her breath seized. It was Petrov who set them up. The European man her father was meeting earlier.

A hand suddenly covered her mouth. After tackling, she saw Marco, the security chief for her dad. Fear filled his wide eyes.

"Miss Evelyn, we must go immediately!"

"No! My Dad."

"He's down, Miss. I must get you out of here, or we'll be down soon, too."

He took her through the secret passage behind the bookshelves, but Evelyn twisted away halfway. "I will not abandon him!" Another explosion shook the mansion before he could argue.

Below them, the floor cracked. After being flung back, Evelyn crashed into the wall. She ran back to the secret passageway in a daze and quickly sealed it. She could see the study's edge through a hole in the wall.

Her father lay quietly on the ground. Beside him, two guards lay sprawled, blood pooling from under their heads.

Then Luca Romano emerged, tall, all-black, with a jaw carved from ice, and piercing grey eyes. She remembered him from funerals and gala nights, where he was constantly present but in the background. He was now a god of death, standing amid the carnage.

Luca looked around the space. His nose wrinkled. Then... a change occurred.

His entire body shook. His back arched.

His bones snapped violently.

Evelyn stared in shock as his limbs broke and reshaped, and his muscles grew larger, so they tore off his suit.

His skin exploded with black fur, and in a few seconds, a huge black wolf whose eyes resembled those of the moon was standing where Luca Romano was.

He roared, and it shook the chandelier overhead. He lunged and easily ripped humans' throats. Screams filled the air as blood spilled. Evelyn's heart raced. She bit her hand to stop herself from screaming and stumbled away from the wall crack.

"What did I just see?"

One impossible truth had just turned her world, which had been carefully protected with alliances, lies, and firearms.

There were werewolves. And one of them had just killed her father or saved him.

Evelyn fell to the ground, trembling, before a deep voice sounded from the darkness.

"That wasn't for your eyes."

Chapter 2 Messier

Evelyn suffers a headache as she wakes up. She inhaled as if a glass pinched her heart, with smoke drifting in her nose and lungs. She felt frustrated because the chaos earlier was still ringing in her ears. The gunshots, cries, and flames that darkened her view before blackness took over.

She tried to open her eyes against her will. Overhead, there were bright lights, the hospital's sterile odour, and a rigid sheet covering her. A sharp pain in her side protested as her body attempted to sit up.

"Easy," A deep voice sounded, startling her.

She glanced at her side and saw Luca Romano sitting on a chair beside her bed. He never smiled, but his eyes were bloodshot and his shirt had blood stains.

"You're up," he voiced.

Evelyn gulped to moisten her dry throat. "What-what happened?"

"You passed out after the blast. We hardly made it out."

"Matteo?" Her voice cracked as she asked.

Luca took a moment to respond. His mouth clenched, and his gaze averted.

"Noooo," she cried.

She shook her head, tears rolling down her face. Matteo didn't make it. He sacrificed himself to save her. She hated being powerless. If only she had listened to him in the first place, he wouldn't have died. She bit her tongue with that thought.

Evelyn detested the thought of owing anyone anything. Because of Luca, she was alive and in a hospital bed right now. "What made you save me?" She questioned without turning to face him.

"I'm not sure." Luca remained motionless.

Luca already knew she was the niece Dmitri talked about. But he felt a strange pull to her during the battle. Ordinarily, if someone else had witnessed his transformation, the fellow would have died by now. But he spared her even when he questioned "why" in his mind.

On a second note, the proposed alliance between the two families wouldn't be possible if Luca hadn't saved Evelyn from getting hurt. Luca's father, Romano, needed a smooth transaction for his forthcoming deal, and the Stones alone could make it happen. Things can't go wrong. So Evelyn had to live because she's the key to making that happen.

"Now what?" Evelyn finally shifted and winced.

Luca reclined in the chair and exhaled slowly. "Now? We handle the consequences. Tonight, both families lost their loved ones. There is a breach of trust. There has been bloodshed. We already know the traitor and must unite to put Petrov where he belongs."

"And?"

"You get better. So we can proceed. That's all."

"With what?" She bit her lip to keep the pain in her chest from getting worse. "With the battle or what?"

A nurse peeked in through the door. We need to carry out some more tests, Miss Stone.

With a quick 'I'll be back,' Luca exited the room, not bothering to look at her. Evelyn watched Luca leave, her eyes portrayed so much anger that she bit her tongue and blood dripped out of her lips, and her knuckles had nearly turned white from clutching the sheets. A beast in human form was saving her. And to make matters worse, she doesn't know her father's condition and can't ask Luca because she didn't know if he saved or ripped him in the course of the commotion.

One thing was sure, though: whatever deal had caused this chaos was far from over.

After the blood test, Evelyn was transferred to another private room. It looks more like a residence than a hospital ward. The nurses kept mute when Evelyn asked why she was being moved. She figured someone had instructed it. Luca maybe. Getting to the new room, she discovered she wasn't in a real hospital. She was in one of the Romano's properties, maybe. They had just arranged for doctors and nurses to come and attend to their injured members. This wasn't new to her, though. It's normal in their world.

A deep voice sounded from behind her, causing her to flinch.

She turned. Luca is here again. He stood shirtless, his face deep in perspiration, his jaw and chest still had blood stains from the battle. His grey eyes blazed like embers as if he hadn't just torn through men like paper.

"How did you..." she retreated, whispering.

"There's no time for that."

"What are you?" She questioned with a half-screaming voice.

"The last man who asked that didn't live long enough to finish the question." Evelyn's back struck the wall, and her legs trembled. He moved a step closer.

"I'm not expecting to see you here again, Luca Romano...."

"You should expect to see more of me because you've just become leverage." Luca cuts in

"Leverage?" she choked. "My father..."

"Alive? Barely. Trust me, he's aware of this. Your Uncle Dimitri knows too. There's a price to pay for your father to stay alive and for the smooth running of businesses between the two families.

"Is this a takeover by you? Did you plan this?"

"We'll refer to it as a reorganization of the underworld." Luca grinned without humour.

Evelyn's heart raced. You're having fun, aren't you? You find pleasure in murder?

"I saved you."

He sped past, unnoticed until his hand struck the wall next to her head. He enclosed her, his breath grazing her cheek. Evelyn, you belong to me now.

Like lightning, the word shattered through the atmosphere.

"What?" she exclaimed.

"Your father has more debt now than just the deals. He struck a blood deal with the Roman line. He dies if he breaks it. The blood will be given to him after you marry me."

"This is crazy." She sighed.

"Your family has ruled the East for far too long. The North and the East will now unite.

"By way of me too?"

"The only person he values enough to use is you. And I am the only one with the strength to keep you safe from what lies ahead."

Her eyes burned from tears, but she would not let them spill. "You think I'll agree to marry a monster?"

"I'm a monster. But a responsible one." Luca smirks.

"And what precisely are the conditions of this union? Am I being tied to you forever?" Evelyn's voice faltered as she spoke.

"A year. The Romano and the Stone had signed an alliance deal for one year before the commotion. From now on, we fight each other's battles, and that's why Petrov won't go Scott free for double-crossing us. "This way, you'll survive. Your dad will survive, and the business will move on."

Fear and anger clashed in Evelyn as she looked up at him. Every action in her life had been planned, and she didn't even have a say. She was now cornered by a man who wasn't just a Mafia Don. He was something more than she thought was real.

"What if I refuse?" She whispered.

Her face was tilted toward his as his hand touched her chin. Then I'll bring you a box containing your father's heart. No one in your family is free after that.

His icy tone stole her breath away.

A sudden, loud metallic noise echoed in the hallway. Luca glances in that direction. His low growl sent goosebumps down her arms.

He faced her once more. "We move in the morning." Then, like smoke, he vanished into the darkness.

Chest heaving, Evelyn fell to the floor. Her phone, which was amazingly still in her pocket, buzzed before she could collect her thoughts. The screen was illuminated by a single message.

"Don't marry him. He is cursed."

Chapter 3 Messier II

Who could have sent her that message? Evelyn was now more confused than before. She was battling the idea of marrying a beast, and now he's cursed? Why does she seem to have a cruel fate?

Before now, her life has been controlled. Everyone tells her what to do, which has always made her sad. She can't make any decisions. She receives instructions from her father and Uncle Dimitri and does whatever they want. She was told her mother had passed away when she was little, but after hearing a discussion she wasn't meant to hear from her Nephews, she knew she was being lied to about the death of her mother. She was going to find out whatever it was they did to her.

Getting married had always been her hope of escaping her father's world. She hoped to find love, get married, and escape. She wanted to get away from the killings, drugs, smuggling, and most importantly, Evelyn craved a peaceful life, where she won't have to live in fear of who blasts the house with gunshots next.

Now that hope, too, had just been shattered. She wasn't even allowed to choose love. Instead, she still has to follow her father's and Dimitri's orders by marrying a beast.

She sat slowly on the bed, looking blankly into space, when her phone rang. Good. Someone finally called to explain the chaos in her life.

"Who?" She questioned, still looking blankly through the windows and not bothering to check the caller ID.

"I want to inform you that your father knows about this. He consented to your marriage to Luca Romano," Dimitri's weak voice came in.

"Someone should have at least informed me before now. Why do I have to hear it from him?"

"It was a last-minute decision. Moreover, your father is in a coma right now, fighting for his life. And Roman's blood now runs in his veins. So trust us and do as we say."

"He's a beast, Uncle," Evelyn tried her luck to convince Dimitri otherwise.

"He's not. You assumed it." He countered blankly. Evelyn kept quiet, but she knew what she saw. She saw him transform right before her eyes. But since her fate has been planned, what other choice does she have?

She could tell from Dimitri's voice that he was injured from the outbreak. Now there's no one to talk to or run to. She could only wait and anticipate her fate in the beast's house.

*********

Luca exited Evelyn's room to meet her angry father, who was shooting into the air. He leaned against the wall and sighed in relief. He had thought Petrov's men had found them again.

"Boss, any orders?"One of his men, hovering close by, asked.

Luca shook his head. "Not yet. We wait for orders from Dad. But that would be when he's calm. For now, could you make arrangements to clean my mansion? The one at the far end of the Estate. My bride comes home tonight."

The man stepped back and nodded. "Taken, boss. I'll get right to it."

His father barks commands while pacing the hallway with a phone to his ear. Luca knew what would happen next: retaliation, a meeting behind closed doors, and revenge. But he was unable to consider all of that at the moment.

Evelyn was all he could think about. He's feeling a strange pull to her, which stirs confusion in him. Evelyn is human; he is a wolf and a cursed one. Is it possible he's being mated to a human? No! It can't be. He erased the thought immediately.

Are you wondering how a human bore a wolf? Luca's father, Romano, had an affair with a woman named Viviana years ago; he never knew she was a wolf until she transformed one day in a battle with a rival Mafia gang and defended him. As fate would have it, their only son turned out to be a wolf because Viviana was also a witch and was a powerful one.

At first, Romano was ok with her ruling beside him as his Queen. She was useful just as Luca is to him now. All Mafia gangs around them feared her because of her ability to transform and win battles. But one day, Romano discovers a secret he has never told anyone about her. When Viviana discovered Romano had caught her, she fled, and no one had seen her. Though Romano later heard that she died in a ghastly motor accident, which he never believed to date.

"Petrov and his men managed to get away," Romano's voice drifted Luca away from his thoughts. "We lay low until our men are on their feet again, and then strike when he least expects."

"Sure, Dad," he responded with a strong revolve, his eyes almost spilling fire.

"The deal between us and the Stone continues. Make sure Dimitri's niece is yours before sunset tomorrow. We can't make any mistakes on the incoming weapons. I'll check up on Vincent now."

"Copy Dad," Luca replied.

He wiped his face again, worried about too many things. He hates the fact that they are somehow at the mercy of the Stones, even when Vincent is in the hospital, lying lifeless and fighting for his life. The Romanos and the Stones were once close; they watched each other's backs and ran deals together since they dealt with firearm smuggling.

Vincent Stone was the most powerful Mafia Don in New York's history. He had connections home and abroad, and no one could match him until Romano emerged. Don Romano, Luca's father, once ruled in the slums of Paris, though he wasn't from there. He double-crossed a powerful gang from the heart of Paris, nearly costing him his life, and then he had to relocate to avoid being caught. New York was his father's land. That's why he opted to return home.

Being a boss on his own, who built his gang from the scratch after he returned to New York, he found it difficult at first to bow to Vincent Stone. But when he realized Vincent runs the whole city, he has no choice. He pledged his alliance and learnt from him before a deal caused their separation for the second time. Now he's back. This time he needs Vincent more, but The Stones had been betrayed too many times by him and this time they want a solid alliance. It could only happen through blood.

However, both families knew that the deal they believed they had struck that evening in the Stones' Mansion was about to get messier.
