RETURNING THE FAVOR! That's what happened Ruby didn't expect. Victor Anthony asked for something back that Victor's parents had given her as a child. Not in the form of money, not in the form of property! Victor, asks Ruby to give him a son. Ruby had to agree to a letter, stating that she agreed to carry Victor's baby. "It's only a moment Ruby! You only need to be pregnant for 9 months, after that you are free to go anywhere."

Chapter 1 ONE

Ruby gazed brightly at the jewellery sets in the glass display case. Her fingers could only touch the glass, as it took Ruby months to buy them all.

"Buy them if you want."

The baritone voice made Ruby's body startle, and she turned her head to the left. Ruby's eyes opened wide when she saw Victor's face! Someone she called a brother, but they didn't share the same blood.

"Victor! What are you doing here?" said Ruby, who initially hesitated to call Victor by name. Since they were no longer close, Ruby chose to part ways with her adoptive parents.

"You want that? I can get it for you," said Victor, who did not respond to Ruby's question.

"No! No... Thank you, Victor," Ruby replied, refusing Victor's offer of a gift.

"I would like a set of this jewellery," Victor said to the waiter standing behind the display case.

"Yes, sir."

Ruby's eyes widened, and she met Victor's gaze with one raised eyebrow. Who wouldn't be suspicious of the man in front of her? They hadn't seen each other in a dozen years. The last time Ruby separated from her adoptive parents, Victor seemed to hate her, even though she and Victor were six years apart in age.

"What? Why are you showing me that horrible look?" Victor replied with a small touch on Ruby's chin.

"What's the point of all this?" asked Ruby, still controlling herself to stay calm since they were in a shopping centre.

Victor raised his hand to stop the conversation. He pulled out his debit card, paying the bill for the jewellery set that had been beautifully wrapped in a dark blue paper bag.

"Take it." Victor pushed the paper bag toward Ruby.

"No." Ruby refused, pushing the paper bag away from Victor.

"Alright," Victor said casually, throwing the set of expensive jewellery into the trash can in front of him.

Ruby was again surprised by Victor's actions. How arrogant and haughty Victor Anthony was! Ruby looked like a fool taking jewellery from a trash can. She didn't care about the strange looks as long as she didn't feel like she was harming anyone.

"Look at it after it becomes trash. You're willing to pick it up again," Victor hissed, drawing a slight smile to his lips. He was holding back from laughing out loud.

"A piece of trash that became my fortune," Ruby retorted, unconcerned with Victor's sarcasm.

"Because you're just like them."

Ruby stopped her footsteps when she heard Victor's words. She felt slapped by Victor's hurtful words; this was not the first time she had been labelled as trash by Victor just because she came from an orphanage.

Victor noticed Ruby's footsteps stop. Victor had no intention of turning around, nor did he feel that what he had just said was wrong. Victor was still Victor, who hated Ruby's presence in his family and life. To him, Rubyjane Xavellyn was a parasite!

"Are you hurt by what I said? How long can you accept a fact that I said?" Victor continued once again, turning on the heel of his boot. She stared at Ruby, who looked down with her hands tightly gripping the paper bag.

"Rubyjane-"

Ruby raised her head and focused her gaze on Victor. A man who stood at 185 with pale white skin and a dark brown mane that was neatly combed with a pomade, complete with jet-black eyes. Ruby was only as tall as Victor's chest, so she had to look up to see him.

"Are you angry about what I said?" Victor asked Ruby.

"No, I'm not. I'm proud. You reminded me of where I'm from, Victor. Thank you again; I almost forgot," Ruby replied with sarcasm.

Victor was surprised at the sarcastic reply Ruby gave him. He thought his words would make Ruby's face turn red and cry, but Victor was wrong. The Ruby standing in front of him was different from the Ruby he met eleven years ago.

"Thank you once again. For such an expensive piece of trash, I'll treat you later to an expensive cup of coffee," Ruby said once more before she chose to walk past Victor.

"Damn! Why do I have to see him again?" Ruby cursed internally. She took the elevator down to the first floor.

Ruby returned to her modest apartment. She placed the jewellery set on the dressing table, needing more time to look at it. Ruby again had to prepare herself to change her clothes; she worked at one of the material stores in Boston.

Wearing jeans and a brown T-shirt. Ruby put her hair in a ponytail and lightly applied cherry-scented lipstick. After making sure she looked presentable, Ruby took her cell phone and wallet into her briefcase.

At 1 p.m., Ruby went to work. She took a shift where she worked from lunchtime until 10 p.m.

"Thank God this time I don't have to wait," said Ruby, smiling happily and looking at the bus that was the transportation route to her workplace.

The journey to her workplace only takes 15 minutes if she uses the bus. And 30 minutes if Ruby travelled by foot. This time, Ruby wanted to avoid skimp because she was too tired to exercise during the day.

The bus came to a stop, and Ruby put down her bus pass and got off in a hurry. Her breathing was ragged as she ran past six shops. Finally, Ruby stopped in front of the material store where she worked.

"Good afternoon," Ruby said to the employees, who looked at her sarcastically.

As usual, they didn't like Ruby. I don't know for what reason, but strangely, every time Ruby manned the store, The material store became crowded, and there were even buyers who openly wanted to be served by Ruby. That could also be the reason why the other employees hated Ruby.

Ting!

Ruby had just finished taking attendance. The customers had arrived; those who usually shop with Ruby welcomed Mrs. Dasha and her husband, Dexter.

"Good afternoon, Mrs. Dasha. What materials are you looking for today?" asked Ruby as she approached Mrs. Dasha with a basket to put the groceries in.

"Ruby. My husband and I just made a new room for us to relax in. What colour do you think would be suitable for our new room?" asked Dasha, the young woman she trusted to help her.

"Wow! How about a classic touch? Like nude or other pastel colours?" Ruby immediately picked up a sample paint book that showed the new colours.

"Isn't it too boring, Ruby?"

"Of course not, Mrs. Dasha. You can add pink furniture if you want a feminine feel or wood if you want a vintage touch. Or go for a classic luxury feel with gold or silver furniture. It all depends on your choice, Mrs. Dasha," Ruby explained quickly and carefully. Dasha nodded, feeling very satisfied that she had been helped to choose her house paint.

"Thank you, Mrs. Dasha. Come back if you need anything else," Ruby said, holding out two large bags of paint and other knick-knacks.

"Thank you, Ruby. Take this as a small gift to buy candy." Dasha placed a $100 bill in Ruby's hand.

"Mrs. Dasha, this is too much!" Ruby tried to refuse, but Mrs. Dasha and her husband were already waving their hands.

It hadn't been a minute since Ruby's happy smile appeared. In the blink of an eye, her smile faded, and Victor suddenly walked through the glass door and stood in front of Ruby.

"Ruby___"

Everyone there was staring at Ruby. Ruby felt uncomfortable and pulled Victor's hand away from the cashier. Ruby didn't understand what it was about Victor that kept showing up in her life.

Ruby jerked Victor's hand away when they were behind the materials building. The safest place to talk, as only a few people could pass by in the restricted area.

"What's wrong with you, Victor?" Why do you keep showing up in my life today?" Ruby said in an angry tone that she didn't like Victor's presence in her life, which she considered calm and peaceful.

"Is this life only yours? I also live in this life," Victor retorted, looking deeply into Ruby's eyes.

"Stop saying nonsense! What do you want?" Ruby said, getting straight to the point about Victor's strange behaviour, which must have a purpose behind it.

"To ask you to return the favour for all that my parents gave me," Victor replied casually, haughtily crossing his arms.

"What do you mean?" said Ruby in confusion as Victor asked for a favour that Ruby didn't understand.

"All kindnesses. Whether it's money or anything you've received from my parents, don't you remember to return the favour?" Victor repeated to clarify his words.

"Victor," added Ruby, who was at a loss for words. She couldn't help but wonder what Victor was up to this time.

"I don't need your meagre money. I'm a Billionaire, and I have everything. But there is one thing I need from you," Victor continued with his eagle gaze on Ruby's body.

"My body?" asked Ruby, who immediately understood Victor's meaning.

"No."

"So? What do you want?" Ruby retorted.

"I want you to carry my child," Victor explained with conviction.

"You're crazy!" replied Ruby, slapping Victor hard across the face.

Ruby pushed Victor's body away from her. But instead, Victor held Ruby's hand, pushing her body against the wall. Victor's eyes stared intently at Ruby. Victor hates rejection! Whatever he wanted, he had to get.

"I'll see you then," Victor threatened Ruby.

"Go ahead!" Ruby replied with a smirk. A small threat would not easily fool Ruby.

Chapter 2 BBRB 2

"Does he think he can threaten me? Oh! Of course, he can't," Ruby said, still annoyed by Victor's words.

Ruby was still struggling with material items. She had missed her dinner. Ruby was used to this. She was storing the big, heavy boxes one by one in the warehouse. Was anyone helping her? No, Ruby was working alone.

"Ruby. Finish this before you go home."

Ruby returned with two stacks of large boxes containing various types of paintbrushes. Her body was about to break after standing and sitting for hours in the warehouse, and she had to take another deep breath when she saw the two new stacks of boxes she had to finish tonight.

"Cheer up, Ruby! This isn't the job you wanted," Ruby tried to encourage herself.

The smile returned to her face. Reenergized, Ruby began to finish the remaining two boxes before she headed back to her apartment. After almost an hour wasted, Ruby was able to stretch her muscles, staring at the clock on the wall. It was almost 11 p.m., and Ruby quickly stood up and grabbed her bag. There was no way the bus would pass by at this hour, so Ruby would have to take a taxi, or else she would have to walk for 30 minutes.

"If you're not too tired, there's nothing wrong with a little exercise," Ruby said as she descended the stairs that would take her to the first floor.

The room was deserted, and Ruby looked left and right, trying to find other employees. But it seemed like it was just her, her feet stepping quickly towards the exit. As her hand touched the door knob and she tried to turn it, Ruby couldn't open it. The door was locked; she tried again and again but to no avail. Unluckily trapped inside the material store in pitch darkness, Ruby remained calm. She tried to contact someone with the cell phone flashlight that illuminated her vision.

"Shit! Jessie isn't answering my calls either." Ruby could only curse and kick the glass door.

Her stomach continued to rumble. Ruby was hungry, her body was tired, and damn it, she was stuck in the store.

"Rubyjane__,"

The voice calling made Ruby's closed eyes open again. Ruby saw Victor's face outside the character, and at the same time, the sound of breaking glass sounded so loud. Ruby panicked! The glass door of the material store was broken, and Victor hit it with a block.

"Are you okay?" Victor said, covering both of Ruby's cheeks.

"Keep your hands away. What are you doing? You're ruining the shop!" muttered Ruby, who was more concerned about the damaged door of the material shop than herself.

"You're still concerned about the broken shop door?" continued Victor, shaking his head. He was annoyed but couldn't get angry.

"Of course! You're making me pay for it," Ruby added, staring into Victor's eyes.

"Wait here!" muttered Victor, moving away from Ruby, taking out his cell phone and dialling someone.

Ruby only saw Victor from a distance. I don't know who else Victor was involved in this mess; Ruby was fed up! She was only thinking about the losses she had to bear.

"I've contacted your boss," Victor told Ruby again.

"Are you kidding?" Ruby replied with a furrowed brow.

"You'll see," Victor continued.

Soon, two police cars and a black car pulled up in front of the material store that still had Ruby and Victor in it. This time, Ruby was so shocked that she could hardly breathe when she saw the arrival of Mack, the big boss of the material store where Ruby worked. In fact, during her three years at the store, Ruby had only met Mack six times.

"I'm sorry, Mr. Antony, for my employee's negligence," Mack said, bowing apologetically to Victor, who had a flat face.

"Is your apology enough to settle things, Mr. Lewis?" Victor stared at Mack from head to toe.

"Victor," Ruby said, trying to stop Victor.

"Shut up!" retorted Victor, turning to Ruby with his hawkish gaze.

"I'm warning you once again! What happened today must not happen again to another employee! You almost made someone die in your shop. Not only that! You also made one of the employees miss his meal," Victor explained with explosive anger, not caring if the police were watching their actions. To be sure, Victor's hand had a firm grip on Mack's shirt collar.

"Well, Mr. Antony, I apologize to you and Rubyjane for this oversight." Mack apologized to Victor and Ruby.

Victor didn't return Mack's apology. Instead, a tight tug was made on Ruby's wrist. Ruby winced as she could only follow the wide strides of Victor's legs, pulling her away from the scene.

"Ruby," Victor said, releasing Ruby's hand when they had stopped in front of his car.

"What!" Ruby yawned back at his wrist.

"Let's talk in my car," Victor said, opening the car door and inviting Ruby to get in.

Ruby was going to refuse at first, but eventually, she did as Victor said. Victor's hand held her head as she got into the car, a sweet thing Ruby never imagined she would get. But then again, she wouldn't be so gullible!

A smile curled Victor's lips. He quickly circled the car and got behind the wheel. Victor glanced over at Ruby, who was staring straight ahead. Victor's Adam's apple kept rising and falling, trying to wet his throat.

"Tell me. What do you have to say?" Ruby said, pulling off her hair tie and pushing up the long mane that touched her back.

Victor was stunned for a moment. Before he finally cast his eyes out the window, catching his breath.

"Are you hungry?" asked Victor, diverting Ruby's question.

"No. No need to mince words," Ruby replied, turning her body to stare at Victor.

Victor's hand, which had been gripping the steering wheel tightly and visibly raising veins, now deftly unbuttoned his shirt sleeves and rolled them up to his elbows.

"I'm asking you to agree to what I said this afternoon," Victor explained confidently, looking Ruby straight in the eye.

"Didn't I tell you I refused? Don't you understand human language?" Ruby retorted, still preventing herself from hitting Victor in the face.

"There is no rejection in my dictionary, Ruby," Victor said, pressing the back of Ruby's chair, bringing her face even closer. Ruby just smiled a little. He placed one hand on the surface of Victor's cheek, giving it a small pat.

"Wake up, Victor. Not everything you want, you can get," Ruby said, trying to stay strong even though Victor Antony was bullying her.

"Don't ask me to come to my senses! Because I realize what I'm saying," Victor retorted, swatting Ruby's hand away from his face.

"Born a rich man who is used to getting everything he wants. He thinks that he can also control the earth and its contents," Ruby said sarcastically. Turning toward the window, it felt stuffy to be in the same air as Victor.

Chapter 3 BBRB 3

"Why are you so confident that I can carry your baby?" Ruby muttered without looking at the other person.

"I'm so sure. Because you always take care of your health, never drink alcohol or smoke," said Victor, who had been quietly snooping on his adopted sister's free-living activities.

Ruby would no longer be surprised by Victor's words of truth. Victor had the money; he had the power, and Ruby must have been the one being monitored all this time for personal gain.

"Umm. It turns out I've been monitored all this time," Ruby replied with a small nod.

"Do you have a boyfriend?" asked Victor upon hearing Ruby's casual reaction.

"Why don't you ask the people you hired to keep an eye on me? They'll know if I have a boyfriend or a guy just having sex," Ruby continued with a yawn, feeling sleepy from Victor.

"No. I wouldn't believe you if you were having sex. Because you already said that I'm the first man to get your virginity," explained Victor, who recalled little Ruby saying out loud that the first man to have sex with her was Victor.

"Damn it! Do you still believe what a 13-year-old girl said back then?" Ruby chuckled and shook her head, laughing at Victor's words.

"Let's prove it," Victor said, approaching Ruby quickly and almost kissing her as the distance between them grew thinner.

"You want to touch trash? Has your ideal type of woman gone down a notch?" Ruby said she was not going to be swayed by Victor's glare.

Victor was again at a loss for words. He leaned back and grinned. The Ruby he knew and the Ruby he had just met after all these years had changed. This time, there was a more challenging side, making Victor even more eager to get his hands on Ruby.

"No. I won't touch you. You'll only be pregnant with my son," Victor retorted.

"How can I get pregnant if you don't have sex with me?" Ruby replied, pushing her hair up.

"IVF. I just borrowed your womb," Victor explained.

"Can't you rent another woman's womb? As a more classy, educated woman, you have the money and power to do it too," Ruby said, rejecting Victor's wishes.

"No. I don't trust other women. I only trust Rubyjane."

Victor paused as Ruby moved her body forward and placed her hand on the surface of Victor's body, her other hand pressing against Victor's thigh. Their eyes stared intensely at each other; Ruby seemed to want to devour Victor, who was already dying of nausea at Ruby's actions. Fuck! Victor's concentration is broken. His eyeballs flickered up and down Ruby's sexy jaw and lips. Ruby looked sweet, with a faint smile and sharp, mesmerizing eyes. How many times does Victor swallow his saliva? But he remembers that he has someone's heart to protect. Victor quickly pushed Ruby out of his way.

"I'll drive you home; just think of the things I said in my house! If you still try to resist or run away, I will not hesitate to look for you to the end of the world," Victor muttered, taking a glance at Ruby before starting the car.

"What are the benefits of carrying your baby?" Ruby said as she closed her eyes.

"You get all the perks and unlimited money. All you have to do is get pregnant, and I'll marry my woman while you're pregnant," explained Victor, who had planned this with his beloved Charlotte Matthews.

"Umm. So you're getting married when I'm pregnant? Pretty cool! It's like a movie, but it's real in Rubyjane's life," Ruby added with a small nod.

"It's only temporary, Ruby. You only need nine months to get pregnant; after that, you're free to do whatever you want and go wherever you want," Victor said as he drove to Ruby's apartment, which he already knew.

****

An hour and two hours passed until 3 am. Ruby was still sitting on the sofa in the living room of the apartment, laughing a few times and then returning to her reflective state of mind.

"He chose me because I'm healthy. I don't smoke, I don't drink alcohol, and he even knows I've never had sex with any man," Ruby said with a sad smile.

She picked up a can of beer and gulped it down quickly. In just seconds, all the water in the can moved into her stomach. It's not the first can, but it's already the fourth. Ruby opened a pack of cigarettes and started to light the lighter. For the first time in Ruby's life, she smoked, not because she wanted to, but because she didn't want to be in this complicated situation.

She didn't. She was not an expert; many times, Ruby failed to exhale the smoke and choked on the first taste of tobacco that touched her taste buds. But Ruby continued to enjoy the cigarette between her fingers until it was finished.

"To hell with what Victor said," Ruby said, putting out her cigarette and lying quietly on the old sofa.

Just as Ruby's eyes were about to close, Victor's words before they parted came back to her.

"I'll see you tomorrow."

"What for?" asked Ruby, her back to Victor.

"We're going to the gynaecologist," was the last thing Ruby heard Victor say.
