The sun beat down mercilessly upon the bustling city, casting its golden rays upon the high-rise buildings and the gleaming expensive cars that lined the streets. This was the world of the rich and famous, where success and power were everything, and the trappings of wealth were fully displayed.
"By the powers vested in me, I now pronounce you Mr. and Mrs. Cohen...." The words of the affable judge were cut short as Seth abruptly walked away. She offered a sheepish grin to the judge and took hold of the marriage certificate, hurrying to catch up with her newlywed husband. She knew that he would leave her behind if she were even a moment late.
Evonne and Seth went to a small courthouse on the city outskirts to get their marriage certificate. In today's world, people saw them as a successful couple. They had great careers and lived a luxurious life. But, despite all their achievements and different lifestyles, Seth's grandpa felt like something was missing in his beloved grandchild's life – a family and someone to carry on the family name. So, he convinced them to get married to fill that gap. Now, they were officially married and part of a wealthy group of people who lived a life of luxury and wealth.
The ride home was quiet, and they both felt tense. Even though they were now married, they didn't really know each other well. They were trying to fit into a society where how things looked was important, and the real feelings were hidden beneath a fancy surface.
The driver, with impeccable manners, respectfully opened the door for her, and she stepped inside the luxurious vehicle. She placed the certificate between them, hoping that it would spark some conversation. However, her hopes were soon dashed as she was met with a piercing glare from Seth. She had never before encountered such a cold and hateful gaze. Her heart skipped a beat, and tears threatened to spill over, but she remained strong. Why was she allowing herself to feel so vulnerable in front of this man? Taking a deep breath, Evonne closed her eyes and turned her gaze towards the window, watching the world pass by.
The journey home was an uncomfortable one, with an air of tension between the newlyweds. Evonne longed to close her eyes and sleep, but she was unable to do so. Why did they have to travel so far to obtain the certificate and rings?
The least Seth could have done was purchase proper rings instead of these cheap, coated bands they had impulsively bought from a questionable vendor outside the courthouse. Seth's reasoning was that Evonne did not deserve to wear his late grandmother's ring, as it would have dishonored her memory. Evonne quietly removed her ring, hoping that Seth would not notice. They still had another half hour until they arrived home. Evonne understood that Seth was trying to avoid attracting the attention of the paparazzi, but this was just too much.
She was jolted from her thoughts by the sound of his voice, speaking in Italian with a tone that suggested he was not pleased. Evonne's gaze was drawn to his hand as she noticed he had removed his ring and rolled up his sleeves, eliciting a reaction from her inner goddess. She quickly looked away, attempting to compose herself.
"Cyrus, take me to the office," He instructed, ending the call.
Evonne felt a surge of disappointment, and she couldn't help but voice her thoughts. "But today is our wedding night..."
He looked at her with a mixture of disbelief and annoyance. "And?"
"I thought we would spend the evening together, have dinner...."
"Don't be absurd. Haven't you already achieved what you wanted? A marriage without a prenuptial agreement. Don't ask for more."
His cold and dismissive response left her feeling deflated.
Cyrus had already pulled into the parking. He got out of the car to open the door for his boss.
"Return the car to me before you go home," he instructed.
Cyrus nodded silently in response.
Evonne was overwhelmed by a mixture of emotions, but she decided that a glass of wine and some ice cream would help soothe her. She may even bake herself a cake to drown her sorrows.
A few minutes later, the car pulled up to the driveway of their new home. Cyrus parked directly in front of the door and remained in the car, waiting for her to step out. Usually, he wouldn't show such behavior in front of his boss, but Evonne was too tired to care about the driver's attitude towards her. After all, servants had seen how their master treated her, and as a daughter from a fallen business empire, she had no power or respect.
Evonne let out a sigh as she made her way out of the car, grabbing her ring and marriage certificate along the way. She trudged up to her bedroom, heading straight for the shower. She scrubbed her body clean, removing all traces of makeup and any dirt that had accumulated in her hair. When she felt sufficiently clean, she stepped out of the shower, dried herself, styled her hair into a messy bun, and donned a cozy bunny onesie. She then applied a green face mask, gifted to her by her aunt, to improve the texture of her skin. Finally, she went downstairs to appease her hunger and soothe her soul.
Evonne was pleased to find that the household staff had retired for the evening. She made her way to the freezer, eager to indulge in her favorite treat of ice cream.
After taking a satisfying scoop, she perused the wine cabinet, selecting a bottle with a foreign name. Then, she returned to the kitchen, considering whether or not to bake a cake to accompany her ice cream and wine. "Should I bake or not?"
Finally, she decided to turn on some music and hop onto the counter while she enjoyed her dessert.
"Why not bake a cake with my wine and ice cream? All three of my favorite things combined. I got excited just thinking about it." Suddenly, inspiration struck, and she decided to bake a cake with her wine and ice cream.
The thought of combining three of her favorite things sent her into a frenzy of excitement. She quickly got to work, using wine instead of milk in the batter and making a bit of a mess in the kitchen. Before long, her creation was in the oven, and she couldn't wait to try it.
Evonne felt a rush of excitement as she swayed to the sounds of Troye Sivan, busily tidying up her surroundings. She set a twenty-five-minute timer and worked quickly to get everything in order. Once the cleaning was complete, she had just twelve minutes until her cake would be ready. Silencing the music on her phone, Evonne treated herself to one final scoop of ice cream before returning it to the freezer.
She made her way to the sitting room and flipped through the channels, searching for something interesting to watch, but to no avail. Settling on a random channel for the sake of background noise, she occupied herself by checking her phone and responding to the various messages she had received.
To her surprise, she saw that she had missed calls from her mother, father, and aunt. She muttered to herself, "What on earth could be so urgent?" as she rolled her eyes.
Glancing at the grandfather clock, Evonne saw that it was only 7:30. Deciding to call her mother first, she dialed the number.
"Evonne? Where have you been? I've been trying to reach you all day!" her mother answered in a frantic voice.
"I'm fine, Mama. I just got married today," Evonne replied calmly.
There was a brief silence on the other end of the line. The oven dinged in the background.
Her mother spoke again, her voice quivering with shock. "W-what? You got married today?"
"Yes, Mama. I had a court marriage, not at all what we had planned for my future," Evonne said, feeling tears well up in her eyes.
Putting her mother on speakerphone, Evonne made her way to the oven to remove her cake.
"Don't worry, baby girl. He'll fall for your charms soon," her mother said reassuringly.
Evonne couldn't help but let out a sarcastic laugh at the thought.
"Maybe in a million years, Mama," Evonne replied, slipping on her panda mittens and removing the cake from the oven. The sight of her beautifully crafted creation made her mouth water.
"Don't be like that, Evonne. Things will get better. So, where is your handsome husband?" her mother asked.
"Take a wild guess," Evonne said with a sigh.
Making space in the freezer, she moved items around and haphazardly stacked them without regard for their delicate nature.
"Buying you a wedding present?" her mother jokingly asked.
"Don't be silly, Mama," Evonne said, placing the cake in the freezer to cool. "He's at work."
"On your wedding night?" her mother exclaimed.
"I don't want your pity, Mama. Just say hi to Dad for me."
"Don't you want to talk to him? He's right here..."
"Actually, Seth is already here. Call you later, bye." She rushed out and quickly hung up before saying something silly.
Did she feel like her Mom's drama now? Nope.
She decided to look for something on forums for an interesting series online to binge-watch on Netflix. Ten minutes passed, and still nothing interesting enough. It was so hard to find something interesting. She mentally screamed.
Feeling bored, she put her phone down and went to remove her cake from the freezer. It had cooled down completely, and Evonne continued to add ice cream to complete her mega creation.
'Or wait, had someone already invented this...oh well, who cares.'
She carefully divided the cake into two, her imagination running wild, picturing herself in a busy bakery with friendly customers and the sweet cake scent surrounding them. Her phone's loud ringtone pierced her happy bubble as she came back to reality. She finished dividing it; carefully put them on separate boards.
She looked at the caller ID and saw DAD flashing; her brain froze for a moment as she gingerly answered the call placing it on her ear.
Evonne's father's voice cut through the line with a sharp, reprimanding tone. "Evonne, I understand that you are now married. I expected more from you. I thought you would have matured by now and be more supportive to your husband. Instead, you seem to be relying on him to handle everything alone."
Evonne tried to defend herself, but her father cut her off. "I don't need excuses from an ingrate like you, Evonne. You'd better hope your husband doesn't lose patience with you and withdraw his support to all our businesses. Your stubbornness could cause him to end the marriage."
"I understand, father." She muttered softly as he hung up before she even finished her words. Evonne sighed heavily. She slowly let out the breath she'd been holding and got out of her attentive stance. Now, her father was criticizing her for not being more helpful. The injustice made her want to scream.
She gave her life up for that gambling douchebag, and he dares call her an ingrate. What a fucking asshole. If she only dared to stand up against him. Sigh.
She took a deep breath and counted to ten, reminding herself to stay positive. She was determined to make the best of her life, despite the challenges that lay ahead.
Evonne decided to put some music on to get her head back on track and found herself listening to some good old invigorating trap.
She removed the ice cream from the freezer and started happily coating the cake. She finished in under fifteen minutes and quickly put it back in the freezer for it to solidify well. She left her phone on the counter and went back to the TV.
"Okay, Netflix, what's popular..." She scrolled through the options and then finally settled on drop-dead Diva, not the most recent film, but she had nothing to watch, so she went back to the kitchen, grabbed her phone and a bag of chips, and settled down.
Fifty-eight minutes and half a bag of chips later being consumed, she decided that this series was pure bullshit but interesting anyway, so she'd watch it. She let it keep playing as she went to the kitchen to turn off the music, grab her phone, and cut a slice of cake to taste it.
"And the crowd goes wild, woh, wooh," she giggled happily, amused at her foolishness, and sliced a big piece as her mouth watered at the mere sight of it. Her dad was right, she was childish as fuck, and she loved it!
She grabbed her phone and her saucer of cake, of course, not before putting the cake back in her haven, and went back to her spot on the couch. Note to self, hide the cake in Seth's mini freezer before he returns.
She was done with her first piece of the divine cake and was still halfway through the movie when she decided to go cut an even bigger slice than before. She hadn't even moved far from the couch when the door suddenly banged loudly, and annoying giggling followed right after.
She turned her head to the source of the noise and saw a very tipsy blonde bimbo in a tight red designer dress with her boobs almost popping out and the hem just barely below the butt, which left little to the imagination. She thought this woman was probably one of the famous models who were always after Seth and occasionally seen with him in public. Seth also seemed a little tipsy.
Her heart stopped, and rage took over.
Evonne was beyond insulted. The wine and champagne she had consumed earlier fueled her anger, and she acted impulsively. In a fit of rage, she stormed towards Seth and to the sexy bimbo, determined to put an end to their flirtatious behavior once and for all.
With a mask covering her face and bunny pajamas adorning her body, Evonne made quite the entrance as she charged towards them. The expressions on their faces were priceless as she snatched the blonde away from Seth with a force that sent her tumbling backwards.
As she got closer to Seth, the strong scent of whiskey filled her nostrils, further fueling her anger. In a moment of desperation, she even threw the saucer she was holding at Seth, but he deftly dodged it with ease.
Evonne saw the blonde had left her purse on the floor. She grabbed it and threw it outside, surprising the blonde. She slammed the door shut. Then, she remembered something, so she quickly opened the door and yelled, "You better hope I never catch you with him again, you fake bitch! He's married to me now, and I don't share!" She slammed the door once more and went to Seth, who looked confused. She landed a hot slap on his cheek and watched as his eyes filled with fury becoming so black, she felt her bravado slim a bit.
"What the fuck is wrong with you?!"
"Any other night Seth! Any other night I'll accept you were sleeping with other hoes but not on my wedding night! I don't care what you think or what you're going to say, but no bitch is laying afoot in this house to fuck you! Or get fucked by you!" Evonne shook her head, realizing she had gotten off track.
The muscle in his jaw twitched, as she realized she had made a terrible mistake. Her body was on autopilot, and she felt powerless to control her actions. She watched as he stormed towards the door, but she was determined to block his exit. She braced herself against the door frame, grateful that the architect had designed it to be sturdy.
"Move, Evonne," he growled, his voice low and dangerous. The sound of him saying her name sent shivers down her spine and evoked a completely different response in her body, and she had to clench her thighs.
"Move, or the deal is off," he warned, trying to rein in his anger. Despite the danger she felt, she couldn't deny the thrill of being so close to him.
"I'll tell your grandfather what you did on our wedding night!" She threatened, daring him to back down. She waited for him to retreat, as he usually did when faced with the threat of his grandfather's disapproval. But this time, his dark, emotionless eyes met hers, and she felt a shiver run down her spine. She was the first to look away and hated herself for it. Despite her defeat, she refused to back down. "I'm not letting you go with your damsel in distress tonight Seth," Evonne declared, her voice firm and final.
As if finally pushed to his limit, Seth's hand shot out towards her as if to strike. Her body instinctively recoiled out of old habit, but instead of hitting her, he punched the door above her head with such force that she felt the vibrations throughout her entire body. He turned and stormed up the stairs without a word, taking them two at a time. The sound of his door slamming echoed through the house.
Still trembling, Evonne stumbled over to the door and locked it, just in case the bimbo decided to try to break in. She made her way to the kitchen, where she had left her cake, and sat down to catch her breath. Despite the adrenaline still rushing through her veins, she couldn't help but feel a sense of victory. She had stood her ground, even in Seth's wrath.
As she took it out of the freezer and saw less than half of it left, she decided to take some to her dearly beloved husband.
'Did he go into his office or his bedroom? Logic says he's a workaholic and should be in his office, but he was drunk, so maybe he blacked out on his bed with his tie barely removed and his shoes still on.' She chuckled a bit at that thought.
She sliced half of what was left and took it to him, hoping he liked the cake and wouldn't throw it away because she'd go batshit on his ass. She took the stairs slowly, debating whether it was a good idea. The guy didn't even like her. Should she wash her face first? No, the cake will melt if she takes too long. And she knew for a fact she'd take a lot of time washing this mask off.
She knocked on his bedroom first since it came before his office. There was no response. She knocked again and slowly pushed the door open, poking her head inside. It was empty. Evonne got her whole body in and went inside, and maybe he was in the shower. But the door was open, and it was also empty. Logic won.
She went down the hall to the last room and knocked twice before she heard a groggy invite in. She opened the door slightly and stepped in.
"I brought some cake for you," Evonne said slowly with a smile, unsure if there was anything else she was supposed to add.
He looked at her suspiciously as if she'd poisoned the cake or something. She placed it right in front of him.
"Is this your idea of a peace offering?" he poked at the cake suspiciously with the fork she handed him. She didn't know what he wanted to hear, and she didn't even have anything to say at all.
He took the plate and put it aside. For a moment, her heart skipped, thinking he would throw it or something of the sort.
"It will melt if you don't eat it now."
"Just take it back to the freezer then, I'll eat it later."
"I can't promise you'll get it."
He sighed exasperatedly and put his files aside. He was being weirdly compliant. She'd enjoy this side of him while it lasted.
"Will you just stand there and watch me eat it?"
Uuumm, that was the plan originally, but that's not what she said out loud.
"I'll leave you to it then." Evonne started reaching for the door before he called her back.
"Take a seat. Join me."
