Chapter 1 Break up

"You must be kidding me, how exactly do you plan to throw away 10 important years?" I yelled to the person at the end of the line.

"It's no longer important, can't you see, It's all in the past now. I'm done, it's over. I'm starting a new life. I quit my job and I still have a few things left but I can easily pick up the important ones later" she answered

"You were never going to come back to New York, were you?" I asked

"No, I'm sorry Jeremy but that's just how it is. Goodbye ...." she said before hanging up.

I stared at my phone screen for a few minutes before throwing it across the room. She moved on, just like that.

I guess I was never really important. I sacrificed a lot for our relationship, my family, my friends and now she moves on.

I slowly drifted myself from everyone, just to satisfy her to show my commitment, only to be treated like this.

She didn't even have the decency to tell me in person, how dare she.

Running my hand through my long hair, I scoffed. I never really liked my long hair but she did, so I left it.

I remembered the day I told my mother I was going to marry her someday. My mum who happened to be very religious was upset, she told me Hannah was raised by gay parents, hence, she kicked again it, not just that, she claimed she was rude, proud, and self-centered. It made no sense.

I haven't spoken to her since then, she didn't accept me so I felt there was no need to continue to talk to her.

After all, I'm an adult who can make decisions without needing anyone's help.

Now it feels really stupid, I shouldn't have thrown everything away.

I stopped talking to my friends too, I quit college and I joined a modeling company along with Hannah.

"This feels like the best time to get drunk," I told myself. Unfortunately, I don't drink alcohol.

I stared at the walls for a long time, why do I always have to lose the ones I love?

It's just not fair, absolutely unfair.

I should probably call my agent to tell him I wouldn't be able to make it to the shoot today, but I don't even have a phone anymore.

I have nothing, no friends, no family, no girlfriend, absolutely nothing.

'I don't drink alcohol but ice cream should work' I told myself as I opened the refrigerator and brought out a pint of ice cream intending to drown in my sorrows.

Unfortunately, there was nothing good showing on TV so the ice cream which was quickly melting was my only company.

This day wasn't what I expected it to be, at all.

I walked into my bedroom and shut the door behind me where I expected to forget all about the events of the day.

The next day I woke up early and glanced around my living room and realized what a mess I created the previous day.

The leftover melted ice cream was on the couch, my broken phone with the broken glass was littered on the floor, the wall was slightly dented because I threw my phone into it.

I tried to put everything back into its place, cleaning the house, and arranging everything properly. Taking as much time as possible I had a shower and looked for my car keys before heading out.

I pulled over when I arrived at the building. Strolling into Sam's office, I was disappointed when he wasn't in so I decided to check the cyc studio.

He was there finishing up with some clients, I called his name to get his attention

"Hey" he replied

"So, what am I doing today?" I asked him quickly

"Where were you yesterday? I tried calling you but it wasn't going through, you were supposed to finalize the deal with those German promoters and you had a photo shoot yesterday for that shampoo ad, and all that aside, a new job came up and we need to discuss other things" he said rather irritably

"I wasn't in the mood to work yesterday, but I'm here now so we can as well do what I was supposed to do" I know I sounded arrogant but I wasn't in the mood for one of Sam's lectures I just wanted to do this and get it over with, maybe I will even go to a bar and spend some time there.

"The promoters were very upset that you stood them up for no reason and you didn't even have the decency to call and try to reschedule, luckily for you I came up with an excuse because they were no longer interested in doing business with you," he said

"Thanks, so what do we do next?" I asked feeling grateful

"We need to discuss first before going into further details. Let's go to my office"

We both walked out and headed to his office without saying anything until we got there.

I sat down and waited for him to speak.

"You'll be getting a new housemate, probably next week" he stated.

This was the part I wasn't interested in talking about, I knew I was getting another roommate because Hannah quit and so she doesn't get to live with me anymore, the company provided our accommodation, a house with two bedrooms, it's pretty cozy so we didn't move out even when we got the money to do so, we just remained there as it was okay for both of us.

"Ok" was all I said

"I was informed that Hannah quit. Sincerely, I'm very disappointed. She should have said something, at least, a goodbye" I saw the sincere hurt in his eyes and shifted in my seat suddenly feeling uneasy.

"En" I couldn't say anything else because my throat suddenly became dry and I ran out of words.

"Anyways, just thought to give you a heads up so you wouldn't be surprised when a random stranger shows up at your house"

"Thanks" I muttered

"So, the promoters will be here by 12 and then you finalize the deal before we go for the shoot," he concluded

Chapter 2 New housemate

Groaning, I rolled over to the other side of the bed which suddenly seemed bigger, and switched off my alarm clock.

I was almost tempted to throw it across the room but I decided against it because I'm sure I'll use it tomorrow.

I walked into my bathroom and a few minutes later came out completely dressed, I wasn't planning on going anywhere today so I wore sweat pants and a shirt.

I was scrolling through my insta feed as I walked into the living room, completely focusing on what I was doing when I bumped into something.

Looking away from my phone {Oh, yeah I've gotten a new one} I checked what it was and was surprised to see two eyes staring at me.

I looked around to be sure I wasn't in another house, yup still my house and I looked down again.

" You look funny " she cheerfully said still looking up at me.

I was pretty sure I looked as though I just saw a ghost.

I didn't even know what to say, what is a child doing in my house?

" What are you doing here?" I don't even know if that was an appropriate question to ask a child but I did it anyway.

" I live here " she replied still staring at me like it was some sort of staring competition. Live here...Since when?.... And where's her mum.

"You don't live here?" I stated

" I do, I live here now, Momma said we live here now " she replied

"No you don't," I said.

"Yes I do, I live here" I could tell she was getting annoyed but I wasn't letting it go.

" She did, I live here" she argued

" Where's your mum?" I asked her, we could keep arguing but it still wouldn't change the fact that a child is in my house.

" ssh," she said placing her index finger on her lips "Momma is sleeping, she's really tired and had a long day yesterday"

"Ok," I told her as I walked away, grabbed my car keys, and headed towards the door

" Good day," she said

"Huh?" I asked her

"Have a good day" she repeated

"Ummm, thanks, you too," I said before walking out.

I got behind my wheels and started the car, everything was great until I got to work and then realization dawned on me..... I wore sweat pants to work.

I wasn't even planning on coming here.

I picked my phone and dialed Sam's number.

" What do you want? " he asked vaguely

"A child, seriously?, I can't live with a child. Why didn't you tell me? " I shot back

"A child..... oh you mean.... I told you you'll be getting a new housemate didn't I ? " he replied

"Yeah... but you failed to mention she has a child, you know I don't like children" I groaned.

I can't live with a child, I don't even like children. I can't come home every single day and see toys scattered around or accidentally step on a Lego block and watch my life flash before my eyes.

" Deal with it " he replied rather dryly

I scoffed " Since when did the agency hire single mothers, I thought you guys can't handle all the baggage and stuff? "

" Yes, but the agency also wants, no we need a new look. "

"So, how does that affect anyone? " I asked him.

" A single mother is a new look. She's simple, we don't want more flashy and glam models, we have enough"

"Whatever, can't you just get me a new housemate? request a swap or something, all I know is that I can't handle this. I don't want to live with a child"

" C'mon Jeremy, you are a grown man. STOP WHINING" He yelled,

I pulled the phone away from my ears as he yelled.

I felt greatly annoyed, I'm not whining.....maybe a little my subconscious said. No, I'm not I convinced myself.

" I am not whining, it's your job to see to my wants, you work for me" I stated blatantly

" And I work for the agency you dummy, it's the agency first and then you. Besides, 'this child' has a mother. So, she's not your responsibility, all that aside, she's really charming." he concluded

"There has to be something you can do..... "

Sam quickly interrupted " It's none of my business and don't disturb me, it's my day off, it's been forever since I got one and I only got this one because I got this ' single mother' to sign a contract with the agency, so I don't care what happens, leave me alone, "he said before ending the call.

"Asshole" I muttered under my breath.

But hold up... it was his day off... even if I had dressed properly I still wouldn't have seen him.

I groaned loudly, I don't even know what's up with me these days. Starting the car, I drove back home. Somewhere I wasn't looking forward to going to.

For some reason I didn't want to go back home so quickly, it felt so different but I'll go back anyways { I just remembered I haven't had breakfast}.

I slowly turned the doorknob and opened the door gently, I don't know what I was expecting but it definitely wasn't a house filled with dogs. Two dogs and a puppy

" Dogs? " I asked feeling confused

" Juveta just had babies" she replied

I held the door for support, ok, I just have to say, this is not normal.

But the weirdest thing of all is that they named a dog Juveta....oh no.

" You also have dogs? just great, first a child and now a dog" I voiced out irritably.

She looked up at me " I know right? you are so lucky "

I glared back at her" Urgh"

" What should we name them? " she asked

"We?"

"Yes, we" Nodding in affirmative, her lips turned I to a smile. Meanwhile, I could tell my life was turning upside down.

"I don't want to name them, name them yourself"

" Please" she replied begging, I could see her holding back her tears

" No," I said as I headed towards the bedroom

I heard someone cough and I turned around to see the girl's momma.

Chapter 3 Ain't model worthy

Someone coughed behind me and I turned around to face this girl's momma.

" Lucy don't be rude" she chastised and Lucy stared at her for few seconds before she finally replied pouting.

....oh Lucy, that's her name...

" Yes, mum" Lucy replied obviously annoyed.

She looked like she was about to say something else when her mum gave her 'The look' damn,.....the look Mums give to get you to stop something, pretty much a half glare and a half frown.

Lucy's mother had twinkling blue eyes, shoulder-length brown hair and I'm sure she was probably 5 foot and few inches tall. She wouldn't weigh much but she wasn't tiny either.

She was still in her pajamas { which I found rather amusing} and she wore comfy flip-flops.

Ok, when the agency said they wanted a new look, they meant it.

She wasn't 'model-worthy there's nothing glam { not saying she's ugly} about her at all, she's just cuter than she is pretty.

" I'll take care of this," she said gesturing around to the mess created by her dogs and puppy.

I ignored her and walked into my room, shutting the door behind me. Wincing, when I saw Hannah's lipgloss on the dresser.

" Why is this still here ?" I asked myself.

It's time to let go of this junk I said aloud.

I found a box at the corner of the room and threw{ yes threw} all of Hannah's stuff into the box, there wasn't much though but it was worth it, and it helped to reduce some level of anger I felt inside of me.

I pretty much hate her now, you know, it's funny how you can easily hate someone you once loved.

There's a thin line between love and hate and once you cross that line, there's no going back.

Hannah had been my girlfriend for 10 years.

Suddenly, she picks up and leaves just like that, this shit ain't fair.

I need to forget about her, just like Sam said, I'm a grown man.... right?

Oh... Yes I know what to do... I'll redecorate..... Change everything.

Deciding to paint my room and change the furniture. I ran a mental list of the possibles people I could call to offer their services.

"Stop talking to yourself " my subconscious mind stated.

" Great, so now my subconscious mind corrects me" I bluntly stated furrowing my brows.

Ok....so back to redecorating, what color should I paint it exactly?

White seems befitting and I can move the dresser, rearrange the wardrobe, and get rid of the memories.

Time ticked by quickly and I didn't even realize it was time for lunch until my stomach started growling.

Yeah right .....I didn't have breakfast. Apparently, weird is my new normal.

I quietly opened the door, and glanced around, it felt sneaky but I just wanted to be sure I wasn't going to be attacked by a child.

Yup...no child. Thank goodness, but there was a dog.

Juveta sat in the corner sulking, she looked so sad, probably because her babies were no longer here.

" Tough life hey " I called out

She raised her head to look at me before sulking again.

" Oh, c'monon Juveta" that was just it. I threw my head back and laughed out loud. I was talking to a dog, one named Juveta, Juveta, Juveta I repeated in my head three times.

This name is so ridiculous.

Juveta suddenly glanced at me and barked, she looked like she was ready to pounce on me any minute now.

I took quick retreating steps as I saw her slowly stand and walk ever so calmly towards me.

I gaped at the dog with a focus

" No " I yelled as it attacked me

I quickly ran into my bedroom and slammed the door behind me and leaned on it as I tried to catch my breath.

" Yup, weird is definitely my new normal," I said still panting.

The creature was at the other side of the door, barking loudly.

" Oh, c'mon you can't be upset. What did I do wrong?" I asked

The intense barking stopped for a few seconds and then it continued.

" Let's negotiate, I'm hungry," I said

She continued barking not willing to cave.

" How about I give you doggy treats and you'll nicely allow me to eat and return to my room. How about that?"

Nope.....still barking.

" Ok,ummmm nice toys and a walk every day for the next two weeks. it's not easy to get me to walk any dog you know, I'm a celebrity but here I am voluntarily saying I'll walk you. You better take this offer" I said, I was crossing my fingers hoping she'll back down.

I was getting really hungry, but no the dog still didn't want to stop barking.

I was very sure it was stationed directly behind the door ready to fight as soon as I got out, there's no way I'll give it that satisfaction.

" Ok fine, Juveta I'm sorry, can I come out now? " She still didn't stop, did she detect the sarcasm or is this dog a mind reader? I asked inwardly.

" To be honest, I liked you better when you were sulking. Besides, aren't you supposed to be recuperating after giving birth or something ? " she still continued barking. This routine became tiresome.

" Ok fine, Dear Juveta please leave me alone, I'm sorry for anything I did that annoyed you, I'm really hungry and I'm sure I'll die from hunger any time soon, so what do you say? "

Finally, the barking stopped which I took as my cue to leave the room.

I opened the door slowly, doubting I'll ever be able to open it properly again. I saw Juveta at the other side of the living room.

I took a few steps and she suddenly moved to cause me to retreat. A part of me could have sworn she smirked as if trying to tell me never to mess with her again. Or perhaps, I had started hallucinating.

These creatures are supposed to be a man's best friend but nope she attacked me instead.

I finally decided ' my life ain't normal anymore.'
