Megan Owen
"Miss, do you want to have your morning coffee?"
"Yes Rouse, please," I replied to my employee, the only person who cared about me lately. After four years of marriage and a seemingly solemn life, I embrace myself and regret not having reciprocated love.
"Here is my girl! Are you sure you shouldn't go to the doctor?" Rouse stared at me like a weirdo, my face marked by my husband's fury, it was a sign of imminent suffering. Maybe that's why Rouse was asking. I swallowed the hard lump that went through my throat and just shook my head.
"No Rouse, it's okay! "I hoarded the cup of coffee, as if the warmth of the porcelain gave comfort to my bitter existence and took a sip. The night before Mason had not come to sleep, one more night added to the oblivion of his absence.
I stared out the window of the big mansion, a few years ago this was what I longed for most in my life, I got married in love and full of illusion. A complete fantasy. My parents inherited a small empire from me when they died, but my husband took my money, made me believe that he did it for me.
I took the last sip of the hot cup of coffee, when suddenly my husband's car entered the great path of the house; the beautiful Ferrari with which he took me to the beach... It's been weeks since the last time.
I fixed my silk robe, and made sure my hair was in place, I just wanted Mason to love me and make me his wife, I just wished with my soul that I would go back to being the woman he swore to love at the altar.
The door suddenly opened and there he was. My husband was a man a couple of years older than me, an engineer for a large telecommunications company, he had a good position, with which he earned an amount of more than 6 figures a month. He was a genius! On top of that, he was too handsome, elegant and superior. Everything a woman would want for herself.
"What do you do without showering at this hour?" He looked me up and down with disdain. His brown eyes swept over my body with contempt.
"I woke up a short time ago, I couldn't sleep all night. Where were you?"
Mason raised an eyebrow and looked at me mockingly in his smile.
"What do you care about where I was, woman, take a bath, you smell terrible," he said that only with the intention of making me feel terrible, because he didn't even approach me to give me a kiss.
"Mason, we can't continue in this situation, rumors say that you are being unfaithful to me, I feel terrible, my love please, let's seek couples therapy, please," I begged him with anguish.
"Couples therapy? I have not divorced you because of the clauses of our assets, you do not understand that I no longer love you Megan, you must accept it."
I felt how his words stuck straight into my heart and completely shattered my interior.
"But... I have something to tell you, you can't do this to me right now, right now when I need you the most..." Tears began to roll down my cheeks without any control. Mason acted as my executioner, and a very cruel and merciless one.
"What are you talking about, woman?" Don't take up any more of my time because I have to go to work.
"Mason, please," I wanted to faint. "My love, the news I have to give you can improve our marriage."
Mason tightened his brow and growled like a wounded wolf.
"Damn Megan! I hope what you have to tell me is important or I promise... "
"Mason please" I slowly approached him, feeling how the warmth of my tears ran down my cheeks, I didn't care that two days ago he had marked my face with a blow, because the solution to all our problems was growing in my belly.
"Now, how stupid are you going to go out Megan?"
I smiled excitedly, "I'm pregnant with my love, we're going to be parents."
Mason 's countenance changed, his expression was malevolent, his eyes burned with anger, and his reddened face frowned with the expressions of violence he displayed.
"What Megan? I haven't slept with you for days, I'm not that bastard's father, bitch Did you cheat on me?"
Mason clenched his hands, and stood up standing higher than usual, my hands began to tremble, and the words did not come out of my mouth.
"I... I.... "
"Tell me Megan, you're an underhanded bitch!"
"No. No Mason please I have two months, in that time you were still making love to me, please calm down, I am pregnant and ..."
"You got pregnant to catch me," Mason was too angry, to the point that he made me feel deep nerves, my heart was beating violently in my chest, I felt like it was going to come out.
"I... I "
"You, what? You're crazy! Manipulative, but that child cannot be born."
Hearing that, I turned away from him and covered my belly with my hands to protect my beloved treasure.
"Don't tell me that, our son is the salvation of our marriage, you always wanted to be a father. Please"
He approached me furiously, clasped his hands, and without a word, struck a blow to my face, the first of an avalanche of many.
"No!" NO please, don't hurt me, No! "I begged desperately, I tried to look to the sides I could find to defend myself, but it seemed that the universe had erased everything around me and left me at the mercy of a dark and bloodthirsty man.
He pushed me hard, causing me to fall to the ground, and at that moment, the nefarious thing came, he never hit me in that way, his strong kicks were delivered to my belly and on my hands that protected him, causing me deep pain, not only physically, but my heart and soul, was breaking inside.
"NO! Help!"
"That son of yours can't be born a bitch," His crude words came out of his mouth as if they were sharp knives. My tears fell at the same time that I felt that everything around me was fading, I begged heaven to protect my little offspring, but I knew that all was lost when the pain that invaded my lower belly was uncontainable.
Although I tried to defend myself, my small body did not resist the imposing force of that lofty gentleman. Mason Briston, I was killing my humanity and that of my little one.
My vision filled with blood and one last blow knocked me unconscious.
Megan Owen
The deafening beep of a machine went deep into my ears, it was an overwhelming beep... beep... I opened my eyes slowly, trying to assimilate where I was, several memories came to my mind, and with pain I understood that it had happened the last time I was conscious.
"Oh, well, Mrs. Owen woke up!" "I shook my head slowly and a nurse was putting some medicine or something in my IV, I looked at my hand and sure enough, I was in a hospital!" That's when I remembered what Mason had done to me.
"How long have I been here?"
"Two days, Mrs. Owen, your husband is very worried after his accident."
I squeezed my eyes, you damn wretch!
"Is he here?"
"Yes, ma'am, I'll call you to come and talk to you," I took the nurse's hand tightly, I didn't want him to leave and leave me alone with him, and I needed to know something else.
"Miss, don't go, please wait, and my son?"
The woman sighed and stared at me longingly.
"I'm sorry ma'am, Owen, you had a loss, I'm really sorry."
"No!" "I screamed inconsolably, I tried to get out of that bed, but it was impossible, I hurt to the last bone.
My crying was heartbreaking, the pain of having lost my treasure was irreparable, I would have remained silent, as I regretted not having fled in time from the arms of that damned ruffian. I loved him, but with what he did to me, any good feelings faded and became a deep hatred for his being,
He was going to repay me.!
Two minutes later, a bouquet of roses appeared through the door and behind it, Mason, dressed casually, and displayed a smile as if it were a visit to the doctor for appendicitis.
"Wife!! They gave me the news that you had woken up, what happiness, what a hard accident you had, but you will get better."
Mason came to the table, put down the bouquet of flowers and kissed me on the forehead, Hypocrite!
I looked at the nurse who smiled at him, as if he were the perfect man, and there I understood that it happened, he had already arranged for everything to pass as an accident.
"Yes, it was hard." I replied, feeling like my heart was coming out of my throat and was about to explode to leave me lifeless and save me from this suffering.
The nurse again smiled like a bitch and looked at my husband with a delighted face. "I'll leave you to talk, it's been a very tedious couple of days, excuse me."
The woman went out, and as soon as she did, the loving and compassionate husband disappeared.
"Megan, you were saved, bitch, but there won't be one next."
"You're a wretch, you killed my son, I'm going to report you."
"No one is going to believe you; you have a history of schizophrenia."
"Rouse, Rouse saw it all," I shouted in a desperate act.
Mason laughed in my face, mocking my pain.
"Rouse?" She must be where her family was a hundred years ago my dear wife, so it's just you and me.
I looked at him with contempt, I wanted to have the strength and courage to take him by the neck and end his existence, but I was nothing more than a stupid coward, emotionally dependent.
"I want a divorce," I told him without further ado.
"Sure, honey, I'll give it to you if you give up your entire share of our estate."
"I won't, I'll go to trial and fight for what's mine."
Mason snorted, "Nothing is yours, stupid, now I want to see you very calm, my boss is outside, he is a very stupid person who wants to visit you, the hypocrite wants to pass for an empath, when at work he is nothing more than a bitter old man. "
"And if I don't, what?" Sentence
"If you don't, I'll take your little sister out of the foundation where she is and leave them in the street, at two o'clock."
"I'm going to put you in jail, you bastard," I shouted.
"You can't, everyone is on my side, a prestigious man like me, he doesn't beat so quickly.
Mason came out and my heart beat even more violently, the frustration and helplessness that being married to him caused me, they were going to kill me.
I whimpered, with an immense desire to scream, but the intoxicating perfume that peeked through the door flooded my nostrils, the woody-toned perfume of a man, was delicious. And it calmed my crazy desires a little.
Mason entered the room again and behind him, a gentleman, his boss. A middle-aged man, but incredibly preserved. Her hair was starting to turn silver, and a few wrinkles surrounded the corner of her eyes. His perfect white teeth gave me a smile, and his worked body showed how careful he was.
"Good afternoon, Mrs. Owen, how are you?"
"Hello... I hesitated embarrassedly; I couldn't imagine my presentation.
"Dear, he's my boss, Mr. Sawyer Mackenzie"
"Dera? Miserable dog" I thought.
"I... I am -I swallowed dry -I am Megan Owen."
"Nice to meet you, I'm sorry for what happened to you, Mason told me, and I want to tell you that you have all my support for his recovery, the company will take care of all the cats, although it was not a work accident, our motto has always been to support our employees."
"Oh, it's not necessary, Mr. Mackenzie," I replied embarrassedly. "My husband will pay for everything, right?"
Mason 's cheeks flushed immediately, and his eyes darkened.
"Yes darling, I'll pay the bill, now, I have to go, I'm going to leave them," Mason said unconcerned. "You know dear, how hard the accident was."
I felt his words as a threat, I swallowed the bitter taste of pain and sighed.
"Well Mr. Mackenzie, I don't want to take up too much of your time, so I thank you for coming here, thank you for your support."
Mackenzie stared at me, his expression changed, and in his gray eyes there was an air of compassion that no one ever felt for me, it was as if he knew the truth. He bit his lower lip and shook his head.
"Mrs. Owen, I don't mean to be reckless, but I know something is very wrong. First of all, I am very sorry for his loss."
"Thank you, sir, but it's all right," My voice was getting more and more broken.
"Mason is a good employee, but a nasty person, and seeing you I have confirmed what I already suspected, he mistreats you, right?" My husband's boss crossed his arms and raised an eyebrow as he looked at me.
I remained silent, granting him the power to assume everything, who was I going to deny a reality as absolute as mine? Although his boss could do it for me?
The tears fell again, and I choked on tears, a heartbreaking and unrestrained cry, which made all my feelings well.
"It's okay to cry Mrs. Owen, what's not right is that you keep allowing that to beat you, I can help you."
"How?" How? If he has me threatened."
Sawyer sat down next to me and sighed.
"I can help you, Mrs. Owen," Mackenzie was silent, "I wish my sister had received help when she needed it, maybe she would be alive, her husband's cursed man killed her mercilessly in a case of domestic abuse, do you want to be one more victim?"
The man spoke so sensibly that he seemed to convince me, now my concentration rested not on his magnificent physique, but on his attractive brain, although... what would he gain from that? Or what was he up to?
"I don't know what Mr. Mackenzie intends, this is all very strange, you are my husband's boss, what has it to do with me?"
"I just want to help her, that's all."
"For what purpose? You don't even know me."
"Please, Mrs. Owen, maybe it's not the time to talk, but I'm willing to help you, do you understand what I'm saying?"
I looked at him strangely, help me? He barely knew me, what was going on? At least it was a dirty trap by Mason. I couldn't afford to fall into their game.
"Go away, Mr. Mackenzie, and don't come back here."
"Please, Megan, let me help you."
"Please leave, I don't need your help or anyone else's, get out or I'll call someone!"
The handsome man got up from his chair and shook his head. He took a card out of his pocket and put it on the bedside table.
"If you need help, don't hesitate to look for me, it's your life that's at stake and I'm willing to help you.
"I don't need your help, goodbye. I laid my head looking away, and he left the room. Again, I immersed myself in tears, completely helpless, because there was not a single reason why a stranger like him would want to help me.
I don't know what I wanted, the only help I needed at that moment was revenge against my husband Mason Briston, in one way or another, he should.
Pay for the death of our son.
I swallowed the bitter tears that threatened to flow from my eyes; My life was that cruel. I didn't want to cry, much less show the pain I felt at that moment. I took a deep breath and tried to straighten up in bed. Just then, Mason returned to the room.
"What did he tell you?" He asked anxiously.
"Who told me what?"
"Don't pretend to be unconcerned, Megan. What did the idiot tell you about my boss? "
I was about to blurt out everything he had told me, complaining about his cunning trap, but something inside me stopped me.
"He regretted the strange accident I had and offered me the support of his company. Your boss is very good to you, isn't he, Mason?"
"He's a damn hypocrite. And if you say it wasn't an accident, I swear I'll make you pay, Megan. No one can find out."
Mason 's eyes grew darker and darker, and his desire to see me suffer became more and more evident. Every word of his caused me deep pain, but he was the only thing I had to survive. We had clauses about our estate, and a divorce right now would leave me on the street.
"What do you want from me, Mason?" I asked, my voice trembling.
"Give up all capital, dear wife. I don't want to see you ever again."
I nodded, but my pride and the losses he had caused me overtime were greater than his desires. So, with my lips pursued together, I refuted his demand.
"I'm never going to give up my patrimony, I'm going to fight, I'm 25 years old, and you took away from me what my parents left me and my younger sister with so much effort, and for what?" For this? You finished me in every sense of the word Mason, you have no idea how much I hate you.
Mason wrinkled his forehead, feigning concern.
"Ask me how much I care if you feel bad, darling. Now ask for the damn voluntary discharge and get out of this hospital. I don't want to go back to this place just to maintain a hypocritical status. My parents are worried about you, so you won't tell them the truth either."
I shook my head, incredulously and full of helplessness. I was about to tell him that I would give up my capital, but that would only give him the satisfaction he desired.
"You declared war on me, didn't you?"
"Megan, I just don't love you. I want you to be far away. You are a stupid person who does not want to give up her heritage. Besides, you love me, little bitch, and without me you can't live, neither you nor your retarded sister.
"Shut up!" I snapped, furious.
"It's true, Megan, you're nothing without me."
"Shut up! Dammit! " I screamed with my heart pounding in my chest, as he mocked my pain as if it were a spectacle. "Go away, I don't want to see you, Mason! Get lost! " I screamed at the top of my lungs. He smiled and walked out of the room, in a wave of cruel and rapacious laughter, as my soul sank into the deep abyss of sadness.
This time I couldn't resist the tears. My heart wrinkled and tears began to fall into torrents, adding to my pain, not only physically, but emotionally as well.
Days later, I was discharged. My face was still bruised, and my body was in pain. I returned to the mansion I shared with Mason. Everything was as she remembered it, everything in its place, except Rouse, the poor woman who also feared Mason because of the threats he had made to her.
I sighed and sat down in one of the chairs in the living room. Who was he trying to fool? Now nothing made sense.
I picked up my phone and started checking some matters when a message came in from an unknown number.
"While you suffer the loss of your child, I am enjoying that your husband caresses my belly. We're going to be parents."
Attached to the message was a photo of a young woman, approximately my own age, her belly was bulging as a result of pregnancy and Mason was on his knees kissing her abdomen. I felt like I was dying.
The image was like a stab wound that killed me. Damn traitor! While this did not diminish how abusive he was, it confirmed the kind of obnoxious human being Mason was and the extent of the damage he could cause.
I got up from my chair and tried to call the number I received the message from, but it sounded muffled. It was obvious! No one was going to answer me.
I wept so inconsolably that I felt my heart tear deep in my chest, and hundreds of tears ran down my cheeks. I couldn't describe what I was feeling. He wanted to run away, to leave everything, but that would be to please that bastard.
With deep sadness, I searched the house for some medicine that could ease the pain I felt in my heart, even though I knew there was no medicine for sadness.
In the past, I have been diagnosed with severe depression and treated with various medications. Although I didn't take them all, I always kept them for times of crisis, and now I was in one of them. I felt so lonely and consumed by loneliness that it was clear that no one could do anything for me. I only wished that the earth would open up under my feet to sink into it and never come out again.
The little white bottle of sleeping pills was my salvation. As I cried inconsolably, my hands trembling with nerves, I uncovered it and took out more than a dozen pills. My pulse was altered, and tears were pouring down; I just wanted to sleep and never wake up again. So, I put them all in my mouth and, with a sip of water, swallowed some. I put another handful of pills in my mouth and drank water again.
I lay down on the mansion's large double bed and laid my head on Mason 's pillow, which still retained a hint of his scent. The tears stopped a little and my heart began to beat slowly. It didn't take long for the pills to take effect. I felt an indescribable peace invade my entire being. My eyelids became heavy and, without looking around again, I simply fell asleep... Or dead?
