Chapter 1 One

With a speed of 55 kilometers per hour, I'm sure that I will arrive at my destination safe and sound. I will be back in our mansion before anyone notices that I sneaked out. I just want to see this year's Summer Festival in Santiago. I will not stay long. I just want to watch the event's grand fireworks display. Not that I haven't watched a fireworks display before, I just think that watching it with thousands of people is a must experience and I can't miss it anymore.

I look at the screen of my phone again. I instantly smiled after I saw that I was just 500 meters away from the famous Buktot beach, where the annual beach party is held.

My grasp on the SUV's steering wheel tightened. Excitement coated every vein of my body. Volts of electricity kicked in to join these mixed emotions of mine.

"Oh My God!" My heart automatically stops its mini celebration after the car that I'm driving bumped into another car. I'm sure of it, it's my fault.

Emergency bells inside of my head started ringing after I saw the owner step out of his car. He checked the back of his sports car.

Fears crept in me. It defeated all the emotions that were lingering around my body after I saw how the total stranger's jaw clenched.

He glides in front of my car and pounds its hood simultaneously. My fears get out of hand. I can't control them anymore, and tears start to slip out of my eyes.

I saw how his mouth opened to say these words, "Get down," he taunted me and hit the hood again. With terribly trembling hands, I unbuckled my seatbelt. For a moment I was hesitant. Should I go out like he told me or should I just drive to get away with this?

My eyes see his Audi R8. I should not do it. I'm sure that he'll chase me down and I can't escape.

Damn! I should have just stayed home and watched Netflix like my ordinary night.

I opened the door. "I'm s-sorry. I... I will pay for the damages. My parents could even buy you a new C-car," I said with my eyes passed to the ground. I heard him bark a mocking laugh. No matter how much I tried to avoid looking directly at him, my eyes defy me.

I was hypnotized by how his hooded eyes with forest-green orbs held all his grudges for me. Ibixa, you're crazy. Why would you be amazed that someone is blazing mad at you?

His scrutinizing eyes landed on me again after he looked up and sighed irritably.

"I just need to call my parents and they will be in charge of this-,"

"Go call your parents. I'll call the police." My eyes pop out of its socket. Does he have to do that? I'm already nineteen. I'm in the legal age. Will I get a criminal charge for this even if it's just an accident? Oh, my gosh! What a failed escape, Ibixa.

"Wait, Mister." He looked down at my left hand after I grabbed his arms as if we were close. I withdrew my hold of him and stood up straight.

"I told you already. I can pay for the damages. My parents just need to come over!" I yelled in deep frustration. His brows furrowed. I covered my mouth and gave him an apologetic look before I looked away.

I walk back to my car and grab my phone from the dashboard. I smiled bitterly after I saw five missed calls from Dad and Mom. Great, I think they know now that I am not home.

Dad's number flashes against the screen. As much as I want to reject his phone call and talk to him after I get home, I can't. I need him here. I need his connection and name to bring me out of this mess.

I stare at the enraged stranger who is looking back at me. I sighed before sliding the green phone icon to answer his call.

"Ibixa Fivel!" Raw anger is so evident in Maximus Fivel's voice that I needed to take the phone away from my ears for a fleeting second.

I breathe out.

"Dad, I need you here, please," I murmured. The tone of his voice changes from angry to worrisome very quickly. After explaining what happened and the important information that they need to know to get here he ended the call.

I put my phone in the pocket of my jeans.

"My parents are on their way, Mister." I look around. Minutes passed, and I did not see a patrol car or police. Glad he didn't call one. We can settle this all by ourselves, I'm sure of it.

I instantly stood up straight after I saw a black sedan. That's my Daddy's car. I smiled. I feel relieved. I am now safe. I don't have to worry anymore.

"Mom!" I run in her arms. Ferina Fivel checked for possible wounds or bruises on my body, and when she saw none, she caged me in her arms.

"Don't you ever do this again, Ibixa!" she said with her warning voice. After tonight, I am sure that I won't do this again.

My eyes found the total stranger staring blankly at eyes with a dark expression all over his face. Why does he look so furious now than before?

"Maximus Fivel, I thought you and your wife only have one child? Your firstborn, Maxence Fivel." My forehead gets crumpled like a piece of paper at what I have heard. He knows my parent and they know him too?

Maximus grabbed me and my mother to hide from his back. Holding on to my father's Armani coat, I peeked and saw that the stranger was staring straight at me.

"Ender, let us explain, Ibixa... she's-"

"I had enough of your lies. Expect me in your mansion within this week. Your overdue debt needs to get paid."

Chapter 2 Two

"Do you know what you have done?" Daddy asked angrily. My body is almost crumpling like paper each time his voice cannonade my ears. With eyes that were in deep tears and grudges, I met his gaze. "When did you ever learn to disobey us like that, Ibixa?" I wiped my tears and bit my lower lip.

"Answer me!" he reprimanded.

"If you would just let me live my life accordingly then I wouldn't have to sneak out. I just want to experience what it feels like to be normal!" I shouted back.

"Ibixa," Mommy said in her calm voice. I brought myself back to the chair where I was seated as they showered my sermon.

Daddy licked his lip after he drank the remaining brandy in his shot glass.

"You already have a luxurious life even if you're caged inside of this mansion's four walls. Stopped asking for more. This world isn't that nice to give you everything you're asking for. We're not allowing you to go outside because we're trying to protect you."

I rose to my feet. I turned to face them completely with enough amount of curiosity. Is this it? Will I be able to get the answers to my questions?

"Protecting me from what? What are you so afraid of?" They looked at each other, and a long silence followed. I shook my head. Just when I was about to walk out, the glass door of our Father's office opened. Maxence, my older brother, stepped in with a brown envelope in his right hand.

"Fix your things. You will leave this country after an hour," he said and walked past me. I sauntered back silently so I could hear whatever it was that they were talking about.

He gave Daddy the envelope. I saw him take a passport and a plane ticket from it. Who's leaving?

"I already asked my secretary to create a new identity for Ibixa. Our men will pick her up at the airport. Ender won't be able to find and get her if we will send her away immediately."

"What did you say, Max?" I asked. The three of them look in my direction.

Maxence sighed.

What the hell is going on? I know that I broke the rules by leaving the mansion, but why do I need a new identity? Why would they send me away? Everything is so sudden and I am confused. And that man, why is he involved with this talk?

"We're trying to save your ass, Ibixa. Of all the people you could meet outside. Why the hell does it need to be him?" he said bitterly. Is he talking about Ender? I don't know. It's not as if I purposely tried to meet him tonight.

Whatever it is that happened tonight is an accident and a coincidence.

"If you don't want to answer my other question then tell me. The stranger earlier, who is he?"

My mother shook her head. "You're promised to Endeavor Mendeleev. He's the reason why you are kept hidden from the world."

I was? I lost my chance for a normal life because of this. So, this is the long overdue debt that he's talking about?

"Darling, come on. Let's pack your things-,"

"No. I won't leave." I shake my head. For the first time, I badly want to decide for myself. I wanna be heard. I want my opinion to be considered. Daddy left his swivel chair and closed the gap between us.

He grabbed my shoulder. "This is not the right time to do a rebellious act, Ibixa. This is the best option that we have." I shoved his hands from my shoulder. They may have sheltered me from the outside world, but that doesn't mean I never mature. I am mature enough to know what is right and wrong for myself.

"But I have another option. I can't live like this anymore. If I am promised to that stranger, Endeavor Mendeleev, then so be it. If marrying him means finally having a life worth living then I will marry him!" I said with finality. I wanna stand with this choice. This is the rabbit hole to the world that I wanna be part of.

Maxence laughed sarcastically. Daddy gave him a warning look, but he didn't stop. Instead, he raised his hand in mid-air and tsked.

"You think Ender is some sort of a prince charming that will save you from this pandemonium?"

I stare at him blankly. Why is everything confusing? Sure, my brother is giving me information about what's going on and who is who, but at the same time he's pushing me to the blackhole of confusion.

Another word from him and my mind will give up.

"Are we insane? Do you think our parents would have gone this far as hiding you from him if he's just a plain business tycoon? Ender is the villain here, worse than the villain in the fairy tale books that you used to read. He got a good name, but he has a bad reputation, Ibixa." Kuya pointed to my shoulder and pushed it slightly.

I narrowed my eyes on him like a puppy who wanted to look brave in the eye of the enemy.

"Ouch." My eyes landed on the familiar man leaning against the office sliding door. He's here, the man they are talking about. His green eyes darkened as he composed himself and glided to me.

My breathing became heavy as I felt him snake his arms around my waist and pull me near him.

"Ender-"

"You introduced me to your little sister, Max. I'm hurt. I do bad things but stop making it look as if I am someone like Lucifer." Ender made a face. Daddy tried to take me from him but he was fast to pull a gun from the side of his waist and pointed it to him.

"Nu-uh. You, scammers, are not gonna take this damsel from me." With his eyes watching my family carefully, he leans his lips on my left ear.

"The great fairy godmother ran out of Prince Charming, and all that is left is me, Princess."

Chapter 3 Three

"You don't have to go with me here, Mister Mendeleev. I don't plan on running away, I just need to change clothes and grab some stuff." He raises his brow. My eyes traveled back to his hand. His eyes followed mine, and when he saw where I was shamelessly looking, he hid it back on his waist.

Ender walks around. He took a frame from my nightstand. It was me and Kuya Maxence back when we were kids. He's in middle school while I study here at home as a grade-schooler. I smiled. Seeing him studying in a normal school made me envious. That was the first time I thought that my life was odd.

After a fleeting second, he puts it back on the stand and glances at me.

"You're not bringing any of your things. Just change your clothes, and we will leave." I nodded.

I enter my walk-in closet and instantly search for a comfy piece of clothes that I wouldn't regret wearing regardless of where we are going. In the end, I decided to go for a pair of jeans, a T-shirt, a jacket and sneakers. The comfort of these clothes is the best in this world.

"Leave the door open." He demanded even before I could touch it to do so. I gave him that you gotta be kidding me look, but he just shrugged his shoulder as if what he was asking me to do was not a big thing.

"I just need a minute. I told you I won't run away; I never lied!" I raised my voice a bit because of the frustration he and his demands were making me feel.

The looks on his eyes sharpen even more. I sighed and nodded in agreement to his order. Did I conquer a country in my past life and make the people's lives there miserable for me to not have a taste of freedom?

I just want to watch a fireworks display, and now I'm in this situation. These changes will put me in asylum, seriously!

I hid in the corner and changed my clothes as fast as I could. I succeeded in changing my jeans without any problem, but when I was about to remove my T-shirt, he suddenly barged in. Panicky, I covered my barely naked chest with my hands.

"Turn your back!" I yelled. Luckily, he did it without fuss and argument.

"You're taking so much time---,"

"I swear, I will slit your throat with the blades of my eyebrow shaver if you'll dare to turn that head of yours." I pick up my shirt that fell off the ground. With my eyes never leaving him, I wear it and the jacket. I fixed my hair and cleared my throat.

He turned around. "So, there's a sprinkle of violence deep within you." He moves his forefinger like he's telling me that it's not a good thing.

I forced a smile. "I said it because of uncontrolled emotion. Maybe I could slit your throat if you turn your head earlier." I lift my shoulder like nothing embarrassing happened. Who knows? We make impossible things possible when we're threatened," I said and left him behind.

"Leave your phone too." I'm sure. Even if someone sent over a great painter to draw my expression, it'd be impossible. The last statement of Ender before he went straight to the room's door made my face contorted.

My cell phone is my life! It's like my personal oxygen and he'll take it away from me, too.

"No!" I declared bravely, disagreeing with his command. His intimidating eyes trace my face. I sighed exasperatedly.

"No," I repeat with a calmer voice now. We heard sets of approaching distinct steps. Later on, my parents show themselves.

"What is happening?" Daddy asked. He obviated his eyes from Ender and directed it to me. "Did he hurt you?" I shook my head.

"N-No, but he's telling me to leave my phone behind," I said while gesturing to the unbothered hoodlum. Slowly, he shifted his eyes back to Ender, who was watching us patiently.

"Ibixa, let's go." He pulled me away from my parents. I couldn't help but worry as I saw tears in my mother's eyes. I wanna wipe them off. I was planning to do it, but his hold in my arms was too tight that I felt paralyzed.

Maxence took a step forward that made him smirk. "Just let her bring her phone for our communication," Maxence Fivel spoke. He's not trying to negotiate. He's demanding him. Everyone knows that it is what he's doing.

God, no! His bossy attitude won't give me any help here.

Endeavor's smirk slowly turns into a mocking and playful smile. He put his arm around my shoulder, which I tried to get rid of, but nah. "There will be no communication between your family and Ibixa after we leave this filthy house." My mother, Elena gasped. Maximus helped her stand up as she almost lost her balance and fell.

With the remaining strength that I have, I pull away from Ender. "You can't do that to me. Yes, I will be your wife but you're not gonna be my master. There's no way I'll do everything you ask me to."

"Oh, Darling, wait for it and you will see." That was his last word before he pulled me. He's walking way too fast that every time I take a step, I stumble even if I'm already wearing sneakers.

"Ibixa! Maximus, no... Our daughter, my daughter." I looked back. I tried to seize our movements to bid goodbye to my mother but he won't let me.

"Get inside," he said after he opened the same Audi R8 that I crashed earlier that night.

I bit my lower lip to deny my sobs that want to be noticed. I heard Ender tsk before he started the car's engine.

"They are to blame, Ibixa. Things wouldn't be so hard for you only if they remained truthful to their words. Maybe you'd get the benefit of being caged in a bigger hedge and not in the four walls of your family's mansion."
