On a Rainy Day

It was a rainy day in February, Quinifa wined the window of her car down and stuck her hand out. It had stopped raining.

"It has" she whispered, although she'd like to enter the rain but she was already late for school.

She brought out a mirror and brush from her bag and brushed her Blondie hair, she stared at her image reflected on the mirror.

Her blue eyes shone while her full pink lips quivered as she remembered when her mother used to brush her hair when preparing she and Anel for school.

She wiped the tear on her cheeks and put away the mirror and brush, kick started her car and drove roughly out of the garage to school.

The noise in grade 12 Diamond died down as "Icy" as many people called Quin entered into the class.

She ignored their usual stares and walked straight to sit beside Mia Waters, her best friend.

"Quinnnnn you are a bit late today" Mia hugged Quin tight.

Quin replied with "Mm"

"I see you don't wanna talk now" Mia released Quin from her "signature bear hug".

The teacher entered Into the class and everyone stood up to greet.

Quinifa watched as everyone except her, Mia and other students troop out of the class.

" Quin let's go almost everyone has left school" Mia said tugging her arms with Quin's.

Allowing student leave the class before she leave,has always been Quin's habit.

"Mm" she replied picking up her bag pack. She walked out of the class without waiting for Mia.

Mia ran behind her "Quin wait up, you should stop this habit of always leaving me behind" complained Mia.

"And you should stop being too slow in walking" Quinifa snapped.

Quin had said something tangible for the first time today.

She pressed the button on her car key, the car beeped.

"You're dropping me off today, my car is at the mechanic's" Mia said ignoring Quin's snap.

"Okay' Quin shrugged and hopped into the car.

"Bye Quin" Mia said as Quin pulled up in front of her house.

"Bye see ya tomorrow' Quin replied softly.

Mia smiled pecking her hair, she was happy that her cold friend was finally loosing up for today.

She loosened the seat belt and opened the car door, she locked the door and stood meters away from the car.

"Bye" she said again waving at Quin till the car disappeared.

Quin parked properly in the garage, locked the car and walked into the house.

She switched on the lights as she entered into the sitting room and pulled her shoes, carefully placing them on the shoe rack and wore her slippers.

Her phone beeped. She sighed and dropped her bag on the couch bringing out her phone from the purse she held.

She checked her phone, it was a message from Rosalie, her father's secretary.

FROM ROSALIE:

Hey Quinifa! How have you been?

Where are you?.

TO ROSALIE:

I have been well, thanks.

I'm at home, just got back from school. I'm about to make a smoothie.

She read what she had typed and sent it.

She walked into the kitchen and dropped her phone on the kitchen island and went to the fridge, retrieving the ingredients meant for her smoothie.

She washed them and placed them into the blender.

She switched it on and observed how the beautiful ingredients crushed down into a liquid and became unstable.

Well, that explains her life.

From being comfortable and happy to being sad and lonely.

Satisfied with its smoothness she took a clean glass cup and poured the content of the blender into the cup.

She sipped from the cup of smoothie in her hand and shuffled to her room tiredly.

She wasn't gonna eat dinner that evening.

What's more?, that's the boring life of Quinifa Sheldon....

"Mom, dad, Anel please wake up!" She shook her family to wake up. Her hands were soaked with blood.

"Somebody please help!" She screamed.

"Helllppp!!"

Quinifa woke up panting heavily from the dream she just had.

She is an orphan, her family was assassinated right in front of her during a rain storm. She had managed to escape.

That's the more reason why she feels comfortable and not alone in the rain.

Since then Rosalie has been the one taking care of her and her parents properties. She was not allowed to handle them yet.

"You're still too young for that" her father's lawyer had said. "You should wait till you're 19 or 20".

She has been really waiting since she was 14.

She stood up from the bed and made her way to the bathroom. Did her morning routine and shuffled to the kitchen to brew her early morning coffee.

She sat on the kitchen stool, her phone rang.

"Quinnnn" Mia screamed as Quin answered the phone call.

It was Mia calling, she wanted to tell Quinifa to accompany her to the mall to get some stuffs.

"Why are shouting my name like that?" Quin snapped, she was pissed off.

Although Mia was her best and only friend, her attitude sometimes sucks.

"I'm sorry but you should know that you're too cold, respect the fact that I'm your only friend!" Mia replied tearing up.

"Alright! Tell me why you're calling" Quin asked getting impatient, she had other things to do.

"Uhm-- I'd like us to go shopping, I need some toiletries and other--" she was interrupted by Quin.

"Alright pick me up by 10, don't be late"

"Okay" Mia hung up, feeling happy.

The cold air of the bustling New York City greeted Jason as he alighted from the airplane, rolling his luggage behind him.

He was back to NYC again..

He has come back to finish his uncompleted business he had left behind.

He placed his phone on his ear receiving a phone call.

"I can't see you" he said looking around the airport.

A blonde guy waved from a part of the airport smiling.

Jason smiled too "I've seen you".

He ended the call and rolled his luggage to where his old friend, Aiden stood.

They did their bro handshake and hugged themselves...

"What's up bro" Aiden greeted.

"Fine,how have you been?. You look good!" Jason replied.

"Com'on" Aiden jabbed Jason's arm "California's sun did a really good job on you" he pointed out and They laughed.

Aiden placed Jason's luggage in the booth of his range Rover. They both entered into the car and zoomed off.

Since Aiden lived alone, Jason was going to live with him together in his house.

They have been good friends since childhood but a foggy and shady past which they pretend not to remember separated both of them for years.

But now Jason is back they were going to rebuild and maintain their relationship.

They got to Aiden's house. The house keeper rushed out to welcome her master and his friend.

"Good day sirs" she greeted.

"How are you Maria?" Aiden asked, smiling.

"I'm fine Sir" she replied and helped them in taking Jason's luggage to the master bedroom upstairs.

Aiden and Jason entered the house and watched Maria disappeared into the stair.

"Who is she?" Jason asked, sitting down.

Aiden chuckled "The house keeper"

"Hmmm if you say so" Jason teased and they laughed.

"Do make yourself comfortable" Aiden uttered.

Quin and Mia walked out of the mall with some shopping bags in their hands.

"Ugh--I'm so tired" Mia whimpered, sitting on a stone beside the car park.

"Mia we should leave. I have to meet Rosalie" Quin replied.

Mia stomped her foot on the ground and head to the car park without Quin.

Quin shook her head and rush to meet her best friend.

The next day came, Quin got ready for school and drove in her SUV to school.

She got down from her car and walked into the big school building.

Mia rushed to meet her.

"Quinifa" she called out and Quin turned.

"Good morning Mia" she greeted.

"Good morning Quinnn" Mia beamed. "Quin there's a rumour going around that there is a new guy in the school".

Quin only hummed in reply as they walked together to homeroom.

"They also said he was going to be in our class!" She squealed, Making Quin to stop walking.

"Would you stop talking about that guy!. You have not seen him yet but you keep talking about him, what if you finally see him?!" She said in a speed that made her think she would bite her tongue.

Mia kept quiet and they walked quietly to homeroom.

As usual, homeroom was noisy but the noise died down a little as Quin entered.

Mia and Quin sat down and the noise begun again.

Few minutes later, the teacher entered the class and the noise died down again.

"Good morning students!" Mr James, grade 12 teacher greeted the students.

"Good morning sir!" The class chorused, standing up.

"You may take your sits" Mr James ordered and started roll call..

"Elena McLintock'

"Sarah Finn"

"Ashton Baxter"

"Quinifa Sheldon"...

Soon, he was done with roll call.

"I'm sure you have heard of the news about the new student newly admitted into the school" Mr James announced.

"Yesssssss" everyone chorused.

"Jason you can come in now" Mr James ordered.

Jason sighed, opened the door and stepped one of his legs into the class...

"Yes" everyone chorused.

"Jason you can come now" Mrs James called out and Jason sighed and opened the door to the classroom.

He stepped one of his legs into the class.

Everyone were eager to see this new boy.

Jason felt nervous as he entered into the class. All the students eyes were on him and his eyes settled immediately on Quin who was concentrated on whatever she was doing.

He smiled, glad that she was okay.

"Jason introduce yourself" Mr James told him.

.

He cleared his throat "I'm Jason Pottec from Silver lining high" he said with a small smile on his face.

.

"Are you the Pottec family's heir?!" Mia asked and he sighed.

.

Yes, he is but someone was after his life and he was determined to find that person.

.

Mr James cleared his throat which brought Jason back.

"Find where to sit Pottec" He ordered.

.

Jason looked around the class, students usually sit in threes with a personal desk and chair.

Fortunately, there was an empty seat on Quin's right, and Jason smiled to himself.

"There's an empty seat beside Quin, seat there" Mr James ordered and Jason smiled.

He felt happy that he had the opportunity to sit with Quin.

Quinifa opened her mouth to protest:

"Not now miss Sheldon" Mr James cautioned and turned to Jason 'You'll have to seat behind Quinifa then. that's your seat from today."

Jason felt sad after hearing the teacher's change of his seat nevertheless, he was still able to sit close to her. At least he was behind her.

"He Is so cute"

"Jason don't sit with that nerdy fool sit here!" Some girls murmured as he walked towards Quin and Mia's seat.

Jason sat down, the boy beside him wore glasses.

He looked like a nerd, of course he was. The girls had said so!.

"Hi" he waved shyly.

Jason smiled "I'm Jason."

"Jeffrey" the nerd guy smiled too and the both of them turned to listen to Mr James's teaching.

Quin and Mia walked into the cafeteria together. They bought lunch and found a place to sit.

"The new boy is so cute." Mia purred scooping a little amount of rice.

"Mm"Quin replied.

"I wish he could just come and sit with us" Mia said dreamily and Quin scoffed.

"Sit with wh--"

"Good morning ladies"

she was interrupted by Jason and Jeffery's greeting.

Quin sighed and whispered to Mia:

"Your stupid wish came true."

She tried to compose herself, After much efforts she succeeded.

"How can we help the both of you," asked Quinifa, cutting the meat in her plate.

Jason smiled. He was glad that she talked to him, having learnt that she has become cold.

'Do you mind if we sit with you?' He asked.

Mia who felt happy that the new cute boy in their class offered to sit with them gave Quin a puppy eyes.

Quinifa ignored her and turned to Jason and gave him a fake smile.

'No'.

Jason acted as if he heard nothing and sat down on one of the empty chairs in front of Quin, Jeffrey sat down too.

.

Mia kept staring at Jason who was eating. Quin got irritated and used the bottom of the spoon she was holding to hit her forehead.

'Ouch' mia yelped holding her aching forehead.

'What was that for?' She asked.

Quin kept quiet and continued eating.

Mia scoffed and turned to Jason

You're so cute' she complimented.

'Awwwn thanks' Jason cooed and they all laughed, expect Quin who was focused on the meat she was eating

'Woahh you bought so many strawberry juices' Mia said looking surprised by the lots of strawberry juices he bought.

.

'Yeah, I love strawberry so much' Jason replied.

.

'Yeah I love strawberry so much' the little boy in Quin's memory had said the same thing too.

Quin dropped the cutleries in jet hand so hard that it made everyone In the cafeteria go quiet.

'Since y'all won't keep shut I'll leave you to enjoy your meal alone' Quin stood up and left the cafeteria.

" Wow, she is so cold now" Jason muttered.

'Now?' Mia questioned wondering if he knew Quin before.

'Uhmm--its nothing. I'll go check on her' Jason smiled and picked up Quin's half-eaten lunch and followed the direction she had went...
