Chapter 1 It's him

Emily's POV

As the morning sun peeked through the curtains, my alarm blared its insistent tune, rudely awakening me from a dream about tropical beaches and an unlimited supply of ice cream.

"Oh, good lord." I mutter lowly as I sat up on my bed. I let my head fall low and my hair covered my face roughly.

"I really think there need to be a day between Saturday and Sunday because now, the weekends are too short." I mutter as slapped my forehead and suddenly remembered I have to be at work this morning.

"Ugh, f*ck!!" I cuss lowly.

With a groan, I begrudgingly dragged myself out of bed, already dreading the day ahead.

"I got my employment letter yesterday and I am to resume work this morning, damn I shouldn't be late on my first day." I sighed as I strolled into the bathroom to wash my face and brush my teeth in less 15 minutes.

Well, I can't wait to start, I have heard a lot of stories about Redrock company, the handsome CEO and all. I am really nervous, I shouldn't be, right?

I really feel sleepy, why does it have to be on my first day?

I hope I am not going to doze off on seat...

I was done bathing and I step out of my bathroom to get dressed in a purple suit jacket and pant with a white shirt.

Mumbling to myself, I stumbled into the kitchen, shuffling through the motions of preparing a quick breakfast and gulping down my coffee. A haze of exhaustion clung to me like a persistent shadow as I tried to summon the energy to face my first day at RedRock, a company known for its cutthroat corporate culture.

"I know they could be very strict but they pay so well, why shouldn't I work with them? Moreover, I would be working in the project management team." I said to myself lowly.

I heard the CEO could be very rude but he is handsome and believe me, I will try my best not to cross paths with him. I have never seen him real life and not even in a TV show or magazine because I do not want to.

My interview was held by someone else and I am fine with it. I really don't want to see a handsome rude freak.

With a sigh, I gathered all of my belongings, including my laptop bag and a cup of steaming hot coffee.

"I need to speak to Jayden this morning before he sets to leave for work." I mumbled. Jayden is my elder brother. He doesn't stay with me here. He has a house of his and I have mine too.

And about my parents? They decided to stay in Germany while my brother and I chose to live our lives here in New York.

I glanced at the clock, realizing I was running late.

"Oh shit!! This is not supposed to be happening" I cried lowly as I picked up my phone and immediately got a call from Jayden.

I swiped the screen, answering the call and placed the phone on my left ear.

"Hey lil sis, what's up?" his voice came up from the other end.

"Hey bro, nothing much...I am preparing to leave my house." I replied. In a haste, I hurried out the door, completely unaware of the brewing storm that awaited me.

"Oh yeah, RedRock. Hey sis, I heard the CEO of that company has an annoying side, do you really have to work there...I can help you look for a better job with a CEO that isn't rude." Jayden replied and I sighed.

"That's what people say, I don't believe it because I haven't seen that, you know seeing is believing." I replied and he scoffed

"If anything happens to you, I will tell mom and dad that I told you before now but you refused to listen to me." He replied and I laugh lowly.

"I can actually do something to him if he is really strong headed like you all say, you know me Jayden. I've got the charms." I giggled and heard him scoff

"Do not tell me you are going to fall in love with him."

"Why would I? there are other cool men out there so why would I fall for him?" I scoffed.

"Go ahead, I need to drive now." I replied as I ended the call, laughing.

Jayden will never stop being overprotective of me. I am not a baby for goodness' sake, I can change my boss anyways, let me just see how rude he is.

I got into my red sports car that was given to me as a gift from my dad on my 22nd birthday. I sat in the driver's seat and put the key into the ignition hole as I revived the engine and drove away.

About few hours later of driving, I stopped by a coffee shop to get another coffee since what I had is finished. In a jiff, I ran out of my car into the store and bought just one cup of coffee.

As fate would have it, the universe seemed to have a twisted sense of humor in store for me this morning. Just as I turned the corner towards where I parked my car, my path collided with none other than a tall handsome looking guy standing before me in his demeanor and icy stare.

In a comedic misstep, my cup of coffee tumbled from my grasp, its liquid flying through the air with a graceful arc before cascading onto the young man meticulously tailored suit. Time seemed to slow down as the dark stains bloomed across the fabric, leaving a trail of devastation in their wake.

Wide-eyed and mortified, I braced herself for the inevitable storm that was about to erupt from his throat since I could see the sudden change of facial expression on his face. From an unreadable facial expression to an angry look.

"Oh! my goodness, I am so sorry sir." I apologized immediately. He is a perfect handsome man; this kind of guy looks like he doesn't exist. Probably I am seeing things. He is not just tall, he is handsome. He has this well-defined jawline with chiseled facial structure that gives him a strong and masculine appearance, and not just that. He has high cheekbones that makes him look extra handsome.

His beautiful green eyes are striking with intense gaze that captivates attention. His long thick lashes enhance allure, his eyebrows are well-groomed and neatly shaped, framing his eyes and adding emphasis to his expression.

My eyes caught his nose and my lips slowly parted; his nose is like that of my favorite Korean actor. He has this straight nose that harmoniously fits the rest of his facial features, alongside a slightly-defined sculpted bridge which adds to his overall attractiveness.

What makes him look even more hotter is the hair by the side of his face. It looks soft and well-maintained. What a beautiful haircut that fits his face shape!!

But to my surprise, instead of yelling and scolding me, his demeanor took a detour down the path of absurdity.

"What on earth? My suit! Do you have any idea how much this cost? I bet you can't even fathom the dollar signs involved, can you?" he bellowed, his voice filled with mock outrage as he dramatically examined the ruined jacket.

I, taken aback by his unexpected behavior, simply nodded her head, mustering a half-hearted smile. She knew better than to engage in an argument or try to defend herself against his sarcastic remarks.

He continued his rant, regaling me with tales of luxury and extravagance. "This jacket, oh young lady, this jacket cost more than your yearly salary. Perhaps you should consider getting a raise just to compensate me for this travesty." He paused, a self-satisfied smirk crossing his face.

Internally rolling my eyes, I maintained her professional composure, nodding obediently as if I had actually been listening.

"I am sorry," I managed to say

"Sorry?"

"You were being so rude young man. I can just take the suit to a dry cleaner to wash" I scoffed.

"How dare you?? Not even a dry cleaner can wash this suit perfectly." He retorted and I fold my lips in.

Even handsome men could be this crazy...

I checked my wrist watch and saw that I am running out of time.

"Excuse me, I have to leave now." I said to him and his eyes dramatically went wide at me.

"You said what??" he asked with a glare.

"Logan what happened??" a soft voice asked behind me as I turned around to see another handsome man.

"Can you imagine, this young lady here has just ruined my suit." He replied and I sighed.

"UH, I guess you are his friend. I really am sorry sir, please talk to him. I have to leave now." I replied with a low bow and ran away before he could say something again.

"We will just get you another one." I heard him say behind.

I can feel my energy drained from the encounter, I turned around and watched as he walked away with his friend or something, still grumbling to himself about the "unjust" fate of his suit.

Shaking my head, I inwardly vowed to be more cautious in my morning coffee-carrying ventures. But deep down, she I help but hope that one day, maybe just once, that rude ass would spill his own coffee all over himself.

The thought brought a mischievous smile to my face as I entered my car to continue my drive to the company building, ready to face the challenges of the day, coffee stains and all.

FEW MINUTES LATER

My car pulled to a halt in the car park as I alight and make my way into the company with my bag hung on my hand and another cup of coffee in my hand. I pulled my hair behind my ear as I took in a deep breath, this is it, Emily. "The day you have been waiting for." I said to myself lowly.

I wore my ID around my neck as I made my way into my office but stopped after seeing a few ladies around two tall men,

"Boss, there will be a meeting this morning, right?" one of them asked

"Yes, you said you have a new staff in the project management department right Kylo?" he replied and I squint my eyes trying to remember where I heard that voice from.

"Yes logan," the other guy replied and my eyes went wide with my lips apart.

I can feel my heart beating so fast like it would jump out of my chest soon. He slowly turned to me. His facial expression as surprised as I am.

"There she is, the new staff." The lady said beside him and he scoffed.

I can feel my knees weak, the guy I had bumped into earlier is my boss??? The CEO of RedRock???

He took slow steps to me and held my ID in his hands, "YOU?" he asked, his voice cold and rough.

I said nothing but fold my lips in and nod my head slowly. "She is the new employee that would be giving an introduction soon, right?" he asked no one in particular

"Yes sir."

"I'd love to hear what you have to say then." He gave a dangerous smirk at me then walked away.

GREAT!

JUST ON MY FIRST DAY??

COULD THE DAY GET ANY BETTER??

Chapter 2 Embracing new beginning

Emily POV

Logan left immediately and I let go of the breath I had been holding. I cannot believe my knees suddenly felt weak all because of this rude dude.

He is handsome like, Damn!

But his personality is off!

Completely.

I can feel the eyes of other employees at me; they could possibly be muttering words to themselves about me.

I turned to the other guy I saw with Logan and I can tell by his look that he was asking Logan questions, maybe about the way he approached me before everyone here.

"What do you mean Leo?" Logan scoffed as he tucked his hands into his pocket.

"Who passed her interview? That young lady there spilled coffee on me this morning, you saw that, didn't you?" he asked and I sighed,

The staffs around began to give me some kind of look I do not like.

Gosh!

Just on my first day, I can tell if Jayden is supposed to be here...he would be laughing at me like a maniac that he is.

I sighed lowly; I should not let his words spoil me day right?

I made my way to the office, I was here last week. After my interview with a guy that is completely not Logan's friend, I was taken into the office and that gave me the hunch that I passed the interview even though he didn't say it to me until Saturday when he sent an email.

I step into the office, taking in the surroundings with a mix of excitement and nervousness. It's a shared space with other project managers, each with their own desks lined up in an orderly fashion.

Feeling dejected, I slumped into my chair at my designated desk, the weight of the encounter with Logan weighing heavy on my mind. It was difficult to shake off the sting of his rudeness, but I knew I couldn't let it define my experience in this company.

As I sat there, my fingers absentmindedly tapping on the surface of the desk, I found myself muttering under my breath. "First day and already on the wrong foot. Great start, Emily. Just great."

Unbeknownst to me, a fellow staff member sitting nearby had overheard my self-doubting words. With a gentle smile and a reassuring voice, she leaned over and said, "Hey, don't be too hard on yourself. We all have encounters with the CEO that leave us feeling a bit rattled. You'll find your footing here, I promise."

Surprised by her kindness, I looked up and managed a grateful smile. "Thank you. It's just that... well, it's not exactly the warmest welcome I was hoping for."

As I settle at my desk, I can't help but notice the curious dynamics unfolding among my fellow colleagues.

"Who does he think he is to speak to me in such way? Before everyone...goodness, Jayden should not hear about this or he makes fun of me, a CEO as handsome as he is....so rude." I clicked my tongue and muttered as low as I can hoping no one else would hear me.

BUT!

I was wrong, is it that I can't whisper or what??

"Yeah he could be so rude and sweet, damn...so confused!" this soft sweet voice said beside me.

He leaned his back and smirks at me with a side smile, my eyes grew wide and his too.

"OH my goodness! Emily?? The new employee?? My colleague?"

To my left, Dan, a friendly and amiable soul, gawks me with a warm smile and a nod. He's always been approachable, willing to lend a hand or share a laugh. It's a relief to see a familiar face amidst the sea of unknowns.

I have known him since high school but we departed because of college and now it feels so good to see his face again.

"Oh my good lord! It is you bae." He smiled brightly as he got up from his seat and I did same too.

We embraced ourselves in a hug, other employees around were possibly staring at us.

Who cares??

"I am so happy to see you, after losing your contact, here you are." He smiled as we pulled away.

"Same here." I replied as we both took our seat.

"Wow, you guys know yourselves? It really is good to meet again, I am Trisha by the way."

Across from me, Trisha busily organizes documents, her efficiency a marvel to behold. She said to me and nods politely, acknowledging my presence and also congratulating me, I guess. Though her focus is unwavering, I sense a compassionate aura, as if she understands the nerves that come with being new.

She nodded understandingly. "Mr. Logan has his own way of doing things, sometimes rough around the edges. But trust me; he's actually quite passionate about what we do here. Give it some time, and you'll see a different side of him." She said and I nod my head.

"Yeah she is right." Dan said beside me.

But my attention is inevitably drawn to the three girls seated to my right. Their eyes, filled with glimmers of envy, dart in my direction. It puzzles me, as I have yet to understand the source of their displeasure. Is it my lack of experience? Or perhaps something beyond my control?

"What's with them?" I asked Trisha lowly and she turned around to see the lady I was referring to glaring at me.

"Oh, she is Amy...you should not let her bother you, she doesn't know what she wants." Trisha replied lowly with a scoff.

"Those trio there are crazy, as for Amy... she's intelligent and diligent, but there's something more in her gaze-a hidden admiration that veils her disdain. Rumors swirl around the office, suggesting she nurses a crush on our enigmatic CEO, Logan, whose presence seems to provoke intense emotion from those nearby." Dan explained.

"Wow..."

Lost in my thoughts, I grow more curious about Logan and the impressions he's left on his employees. It's clear that his leadership style is stringent and precise, possessing a desire for excellence that may border on the domineering. I brace myself mentally, understanding that working under him will require a blend of resilience and adaptability.

But why is that jerk so rude???

Just as my musings swirl, I'm startled by the entrance of a female employee. She exudes confidence and charisma, her entrance commanding the attention of all inside the office. .

Dan and Trisha exchange knowing glances, their smiles unwavering as they subtly welcome me into their fold. It's a silent assurance, a recognition that I've become part of this intricate workplace tapestry.

As if on cue, a wave of commotion swept through the office. Murmurs of "The CEO has called for a meeting in the conference room" echoed through the office space, stirring a flurry of movement as staff members quickly gathered their belongings and made their way to the room.

Caught off guard by the abruptness of the announcement, I hastily gathered my notepads and pens, trying to compose myself amid the sudden rush. It seemed like everyone knew where to go and what to expect, while I still navigated the confusion of being the new staff member.

"Meeting?"

"Yeah, your introduction would be part." Dan replied and I blinked my eyes rapidly

"You've got this Emily." Trisha smiled at me

As we gather in the conference room, curiosity intertwines with trepidation. The meeting looms ahead, an opportunity to forge new connections, gain insights, and navigate the challenges lying in wait.

With each step, I remind myself that this journey is meant to be embraced, with its complexities and unknowns. The office buzzes around me, a symphony of ambitions and aspirations. As I take my seat in the conference room, I'm ready to face the hurdles, grow as an individual, and contribute my unique talents to this ever-evolving workplace mosaic.

Chapter 3 Battle of resilence

Emily POV

Taking a deep breath to steady my nerves, I joined the stream of employees making their way to the conference room. There was an energy of anticipation in the air, mingled with a touch of apprehension. I found solace in the collective camaraderie, realizing that we were all here to contribute our individual talents to the company's success.

As I entered the conference room, the atmosphere shifted. Conversations subsided, replaced by a hush that enveloped the room. All eyes turned towards the front, where Logan stood confidently, his expression determined and focused.

In that moment, I reminded myself that this was the place where I had the opportunity to grow, to learn from those with more experience, and to prove my own worth. Filled with a renewed sense of determination, I took my seat, ready to face the challenges that lay ahead.

The meeting began, and Logan's commanding presence set the tone for the discussion. Despite his earlier display of rudeness, I couldn't help but notice a glimmer of passion in his eyes as he shared his vision for the company. It was a reminder that although first impressions can be misleading, there was always more to someone than meets the eye.

I guess so, but still looking at Logan he really looks like a rude boss.

As the meeting progressed, ideas were exchanged, and collaborations were formed. We were a team, united by our shared purpose and driven by a collective desire to achieve greatness. In that moment, I realized that while some encounters may leave us disheartened, it is ultimately our perseverance and resilience that define our journey.

Logan suddenly paused his conversation and turned his eyes to my direction, my brows furrowed at him and I gulp down.

The looks he gave me wasn't anything funny at all, is this dude okay

Is he probably thinking of our encounter this morning??

Oh shit!

"Emily?" he called, his voice low and rumbling.

"Sir?" I replied, my voice barely above a whisper.

"How could I forget you will have to make an introduction here, now." He said as he sat back and leaned against his seat.

"Eh? Uhm, sorry? But we're in a meeting now Sir." I replied with a fake smile

"Does that matter? We are waiting to hear from you." He replied dismissively.

I inwardly rolled my eyes as I cleared my throat.

I took a deep breath as I steadied myself, ready to face the daunting challenge of introducing myself to the entire team during this morning meeting. My emotions were in tumult, fueled by the untimely mishap I had encountered earlier with my cocky boss, Logan, the CEO of the company.

In as much as he's handsome, he looks like someone that would give me hard time for real.

As I cleared my throat and slowly got up from my seat, my head held high, a hush fell over the room. All eyes turned toward me, curiosity mixing with whispers of expectations and judgment. But I remained undeterred, my determination shining through.

If Logan wants to embarrass me, I would prove him wrong!!

I began by addressing my peers with a confident smile. "Good morning, everyone. My name is Emily Collins, and I am thrilled to be a part of this incredible team. I come to you with a strong background in project management, and I'm excited to contribute my skills and dedication to the success of this company."

My Introduction resounded with sincerity and passion, the words chosen with care to convey my commitment and ambition. As I spoke, her enthusiasm filled the room like a gust of fresh air, invigorating those who were open to embrace change and new perspectives.

Dan was smiling at me with this 'go on' look on his face. Trisha on the other hand slowly raised up her thumbs at me while other employees around stared at like they were watching a TV.

I continued my statement and slowly, whispers of approval and nods of agreement rippled through the crowd as I spoke, I can tell my words are painting a vivid picture of my diligence and hardworking nature. My determination to succeed, coupled with my enthusiasm, were infectious.

However, I Emily reached the peak of my introduction, ready to dive into the finer details of my skill set, Logan interjected with a sharp tone. "Alright, enough," he sneered, his voice dripping with disdain. "We've heard enough. You spilled coffee on me this morning, for heaven's sake. I don't have time for your careless mistakes and empty words."

My eyes grew wide immediately, does he have to mention this???

The room fell into an uncomfortable silence, shocked by the CEO's brashness. My smile faltered for a moment, but I refused to let his rudeness diminish my spirit. I squared my shoulders and met Logan's gaze head-on, my eyes reflecting unwavering resolve.

"Mr. Logan," I began, My voice unwavering. "I am deeply sorry for the accident this morning. It was an unintended mistake that I take full responsibility for. But accidents happen, and what matters is how we handle them. I assure you; I am fully committed to my role and the success of this company. I am diligent, dedicated, and willing to go the extra mile to ensure our goals are achieved." I replied with a side smile

My words hung palpably in the air, charged with integrity and resilience. The room felt an electric energy and I can tell! It's as if witnessing the collision of a relentless force and an immovable object. The employees shifted in their seats, a mixture of admiration and uncertainty filling their minds.

For a moment, it seemed as though Logan would silence my further with his dismissive power. But something shifted within him, a flicker of a grudging respect for my indomitable spirit. He leaned back in his chair and studied me intently, contemplating the fire that burned within my eyes.

What does he have to say?

I have what to say too.

With a sigh, Logan finally relented. "Fine," he conceded, his tone markedly subdued. "We'll give you a chance to prove yourself. But don't think for a second that I'll be lenient. You've set the bar high for yourself, Emily Collins. Let's see if you have what it takes."

As the meeting resumed, I continued with my introduction, my voice steady and resolute. The skepticism that initially tainted the room began to dissipate as my words wove a narrative of ambition, drive, and unwavering determination.

By the time I concluded my introduction, my colleagues were captivated, their doubts replaced by a newfound appreciation for my resilience and unwavering commitment to success.

"This is awesome!" Dan was the first to shout and one by one, other employees clapped their hands in applause while I stood with a bright smile on my face.

"Thank you." I replied lowly and took my seat.

Logan said nothing but looked away from me, well he had to do that anyways!

With newfound determination, I raised my hand, ready to contribute my own thoughts and ideas. This was my chance to make my mark, to rise above any initial setbacks and show the world-and myself-what I was truly capable of achieving.

But still, I kept looking at my boss stylishly and one thing I can point out is that he is kinda pissed off and I do not care!
