I will be traveling back to work on Friday and I want you to use this opportunity to visit my parents at the village, Mr Gold told his wife. okay, there's no problem, replied Mrs Gold. You will just help me to arrange what I'll take there. Don't worry I will do that. Mr and Mrs Gold got married at their early ages, this was so because they wanted to start raising their children on time. Their marriage was the kind that the other couples In the street marvelled at. The bond between the Golds' was an unbreakable one. in the evening of Thursday, Mr Gold drove his wife to his hometown.
he took his wife straight to his mother's house so that she can be cared since she was heavily pregnant. After exchanging pleasantries with his Mom and others around, Mr Gold took off to the city; from where he will proceed to his place of work the following morning. Early on Friday morning, Mr Gold zoomed off in his car, as he began his 9 hours journey. Meanwhile in the village, Mrs Gold was at the village with her quarrelsome mother in-law. Another argument has started again between mother inlaw and daughter in-law. Mama wants his daughter in-law to do the house chores since she's around but her daughter in-law argues with her that she can only wash the dishes. Mama calls her lazy woman, she doesn't want to consider the fact that she is heavily pregnant. After much ado, Mrs Gold washed the dishes, prepared breakfast and left for her sister in-law's place where she went to relax herself from mother inlaw's queries. In the evening of Friday, Mrs Gold decides to return to her mother inlaw's house but she is trapped by labour pain, her sister in-law quickly rushed her to the community hospital. At about some minutes to nine at night, Mrs Gold put to bed and behold, she was a girl. Mrs Gold immediately called her husband to tell him about the good news. Mrs Gold was discharged the following day to their home in the city, she travelled back with her mother inlaw and her sister in-law. Mr Gold returned after two days to welcome his baby daughter. On the eighth day of the baby's arrival, she was named patience. Patience started growing, she was the pride of her parents, although she was not the first child. As she grew, her parents discovered that she was a stamarer. Her slowness in speech made her to always stay alone for the fear of being teased by her playmates. Her mother was worried about her her attitude of staying alone all the time. As a result of her attitude, her mother decided to enroll her in school early so that she can learn how to mingle with people on time. At the age of two, patience was already in the midst of her friends, although she goes out with them but she does it frequently.
Mrs Gold looked at her daughter for awhile before answering the panel that was before her. To be truthful, I cannot even explain what is happening to my daughter. She returned from school yesterday and told me the same thing, I had to call my husband too to tell him what patience was saying; he even called her this morning to confirm for himself and he got the same reply.
This is serious Mrs Gold, but one thing I must tell you is this: don't be afraid, I have witnessed a similar situation before; where child told his class teacher to change his name that he has another name for himself, he went home telling his friends that he has a new name even before his parents returned from work. Mummy patience, children name themselves, I'm talking from the experiences I have had. Some children even name themselves from their mother's womb. So this is not new to me. The head teacher explained. The entire staff were surprised while Mrs Gold was just staring at her daughter. So what do you have to say madam, the head teacher asked Mrs Gold. Ma, I think you should change the name. So that I'll have peace and things can go well here; in school. Because from the way I'm seeing her now she won't respond to anyone if she isn't called Sarah. Okay ma, thanks for your time. So little girl, your name is Sarah Gold. The head teacher announced. Yeah yeah yeah, patience shouted with joy and ran to her class. Her mother was standing like who was in a dream. She was taken aback when the head teacher thanked her again for coming over. Mrs Gold got home that day more confused than she was. She couldn't do anything other than to sit down, stand up and walk around the house. Her greatest fear was telling her husband about has happened. But before her daughter returned from school, she took courage and called her husband, she explained everything to him as she was told by their daughter's class room teacher and the decision they took at the end of the discussion. Mr Gold was not happy at first, he wasn't happy for the fact that his wife took the decision alone but all along he considered it good because the child was both theirs. Sarah returned from school that day with an unusual joy, she had never been so happy before. As she entered the house, she greeted her mother and started bringing all her books from her bag with so much excitement; a thing she has never done. Her mother thought she wanted to do her homework but she was wrong. Sarah was looking at the space her teacher erased and wrote her new name on. Mrs Gold became afraid, many thoughts ran through her mind as she watched her daughter, she thought of Sarah not being her child, maybe she was changed at birth at the community hospita.l
Mrs Williams; her teacher in school noticed her attitude and she didn't waste time in reporting to Mrs Gold. Mrs Gold became more worried about what the teacher told her about her daughter. Mrs Gold was told that due to patience slowness in speech, she now devised another means of using her hands and head to talk to her mates.she resolved in her heart to take everything to God in prayers. At nights, she will wake up and pray for her daughter, this she does with tears in her eyes for three months and she started seeing some changes in her.
Patience started talking to her mates but it wasn't often because she still minded her slowness in speech. At two, she did the unimaginable, she came home from school one day with a frowning face . Her mother called and called her name but she didn't answer. why aren't you answering your name patience? her mother questioned Don't call me patience, I don't like that name, how will you call me patience? little patience she replied her mother with a question... shocked by what her little daughter said, Mrs Gold thought maybe her teacher had annoyed her in School that is why she's acting that way. it's okay my dear, come let's go patience, Mrs Gold told her daughter mummy I have told you, don't call me patience, my name is not patience She fired again. will you keep quiet my friend, if your name is not patience, what then is your name? my name is Sarah, patience replied. your name is not Sarah, your name is patience, your father and I gave you that name and nobody is changing it, not even you. by the way where did you hear that name? who told your name is Sarah? answer me quickly, Mrs Gold threatened. it's me, nobody called me Sarah, I called myself. mummy please change my name to Sarah, I don't want you to call me patience again. come to my school tomorrow and tell my teachers please mummy. I want to be called Sarah. okay, I'll discuss it with your daddy when he returns from work. Still baffled with what two year old patience was saying, Mrs patience went ahead to prepare lunch for her daughter. Later at night, Mrs Gold had to call her husband to tell him about the latest changes about their daughter in . Mr Gold encouraged his wife not to be worried that everything will be fine, although after the encouragement, he was still surprised at patience decision to change her name. He promised to put a call across to them so that he will confirm everything himself. As early as 6:45am, Mr Gold called his wife and asked her to hand over the phone to their daughter. Hello, princess patience. Mr Gold greeted how daughter in his usual way. But patience did not respond. Are you there patience? His father asked Yes sir, I'm here, this Sarah talking not patience
