Chapter 1 Encounter

Demi's POV:

I was wrapping the bouquet of flowers with red velvet and white ribbon. The customer who ordered these flowers was in front of me. He asked me to make this bouquet extra special because he was going to propose to his girlfriend.

I was deeply touched by the sincerity of this man. He was such a romantic person, too. Most men only wanted a simple relationship. They were unwilling to make serious promises to their girlfriends.

But I had nothing to say about this. After all, I would be twenty-five in June, but I was still single.

Even my sister, Ella, mocked me for being a virgin. Seriously, I didn't think it was a big deal. I believed that relationships between men and women were complicated and hard to deal with. I preferred my current life, which was simple.

Suddenly, my phone rang. When I looked at the screen, I saw my father's name. A bad feeling surged in me at once. But I couldn't ignore his call, so I could only sigh and answer reluctantly.

Damn it, Demi! What's taking you so long to answer your phone? Come to my law firm now. I have something to tell you, my father said impatiently on the other end of the line.

I can't. There are still many customers in the flower shop.

Demi, don't make me repeat my words. If you don't come, prepare yourself. Wait until I come home tonight. I'll slap your face.

After saying those harsh words, my father hung up the phone without even giving me a chance to retort. I could only rub my temples helplessly. My head suddenly ached, and I felt annoyed with my father.

He had been like this since my mother passed away. Most of the time, he got angry at me and often beat me up. At first, I thought he was only sad and wanted to vent, so I let him. But later, I found that he enjoyed slapping me, not because he was sad but because he hated me.

Maybe my father hated me because of my mother's will. After her funeral, her lawyer told us that she had left a will. And I could never forget that day the lawyer read it to us. We were all shocked that she left all her inheritance to me. My father and sister got nothing. And this might be the reason why my father hated me.

I had two million dollars in my bank account now.

But I just left it there. I didn't touch the money at all. In fact, I didn't intend to use it.

At first, I thought of giving some of the money to my father and sister. But after careful consideration, I changed my mind. There must be a reason why my mother left all the inheritance to me alone.

But until now, my father didn't want to give up yet. He had been coveting the money all the time. But he always failed, so he hated me even more.

Excuse me, are my flowers ready? I'm in a hurry. I have to go now.

I was so startled by the man's sudden voice that I jolted. It was only then that I realized I was lost in thought and forgot that I still had a customer waiting in front of me.

Oh, I'm so sorry, sir. Here, your flowers are ready.

The man quickly took the bouquet of flowers and went to the cashier to pay.

You are distracted again, aren't you? asked Henry, one of my colleagues.

My face felt hot. I was blushing. This was not the first time I was absent-minded at work.

I'm sorry, Henry. I've just been a little upset lately. My father just called. He wanted to see me, I explained in a low voice.

My father had been acting weird lately. Every time he got home, he often locked himself in his room for hours. And when he saw me, I noticed that his eyes suddenly lit up. It was as if he was plotting something against me. And the thought of it made me tremble with fear.

It's okay. There are not many customers today. If you have something to do, you can get off work now. I'll take care of everything here, Henry comforted me, smiling reassuringly.

I nodded at him gratefully and said goodbye. Then I rushed to my father's law firm.

My father was in his office, sitting at his desk. And as soon as he saw me, he snorted and said impatiently, "You are always slow in whatever you do. By the way, I asked you to come here because I want to talk about the money your mother left to you. I need it. I owe three million dollars to the gangsters. If I can't pay them back, I'll be dead meat. So transfer the money to me now."

I couldn't help smiling bitterly. It was still all about the inheritance.

He could always come up with various excuses to ask me for money. He once said he was in poor health and needed money for surgery. He also told me last time that his law firm didn't make money anymore. He had so many excuses that it was already hard for me to believe him.

No. That money was left by my mother to me. And she didn't say in her will that you could use it. I refused my father's demand without hesitation.

His face darkened at once. He looked at me with his sharp eyes and said, "I'm your father. Are you just going to watch while I am being chopped into pieces by the gangsters? Are you giving me the money or not?"

I'm not, I said through clenched teeth.

You little bitch! You're forcing me to teach you a lesson. You'll see how I deal with you. My father's face turned red with anger. He pushed away the chair exasperatedly, stood up, and walked towards me while cursing.

There was no way I would just stand there and let him beat me. I hurriedly ran out of his office. But as soon as I turned in a corner, I bumped into something as hard as a wall. To be exact, it was a flesh wall.

I... I'm sorry. I raised my head while apologizing in a panic. Then I saw a man with an imposing aura standing in front of me like a mountain.

He wore a well-tailored three-piece handmade Italian suit. He was tall and straight, and his expression was serious and cold, giving people a strong sense of oppression.

At this moment, he looked at me sharply with a frown. It was as if he was an eagle looking at its prey.

I was so scared that I took two steps back. Then I turned my head to avoid his gaze. But I caught a glimpse of my father chasing after me.

However, my father's expression changed drastically when he saw the man. His fiendish look disappeared in an instant. He put on a respectful gesture. In my eyes, he looked like a pug sticking out his tongue. The way he behaved in front of the man, it was as if the man was the noble God who could control his fate.

His attitude towards the man surprised me. Suddenly, I felt an intense burning gaze beside me. I turned my head and found that the man was looking at me up and down wantonly. It was as if he regarded me as a commodity that could be bought and sold at will.

I felt a little uncomfortable being stared at like this. So I blurted out, "Hey, big guy! You're blocking my way."

But much to my surprise, the man suddenly laughed. And his eyes turned cold and murderous.

So what? His voice was also as cold as ice.

It inexplicably gave me goose bumps. I turned around to avoid him and ran out of the law firm.

Ares' POV:

I watched the woman's receding figure until she disappeared from my sight. Then I turned to the man in front of me and looked at him with no interest.

I noticed that he was trembling, and his eyes were full of fear.

But I didn't give a shit about his reaction at all. I had been very patient with him. I had only forgiven him twice because I still considered the fact that he was my lawyer. But this time, I couldn't tolerate him anymore. People always liked to push their luck. If you gave them one day grace period, they would want it ten days. They liked going too far. I guess this was human nature.

Today was the deadline I gave this man to pay me back.

William, I have given you enough time to pay the money back. But so far, I haven't received a single penny from you. You know that I don't like being deceived. You know me better than anyone else, right? You don't have anything valuable in your hands to pay the money you owe me, I said impatiently.

Sir, I'm so sorry. I don't have enough money now. But if you want, I can repay you in other ways. I will do anything for you. Just say it, and I swear to follow your order. I can even kill for you. Or... I can sell my daughter to you. She is still a virgin. You will like her. William fell on his knees and begged me.

But his words sounded disgusting in my ears. I stood there, lit a cigarette, and looked down at him. How could he even think of selling his daughter to me? She was unlucky to have such a shameless and useless father like him. Since it seemed that I could never get my money back, what if I just killed him?

Giorgos, my most trusted subordinate, kicked William to the floor. He sneered, "Do you think my boss will accept your dirty deal?"

William curled up on the floor, groaning in pain. He was like a stray dog on the roadside.

Then he struggled to get up, crawled at my feet, and looked up at me. His eyes were already red. "Sir, please give me one more chance. I swear, I will do everything I can to pay you back. You can keep my daughter with you and do whatever you want with her. I will raise the three million dollars I owe you in a year. What do you think of this deal, sir?"

I fixed my eyes on him and suddenly asked, "Which daughter are you referring to?" I remembered that William had two daughters.

My question seemed to give him hope. He hurriedly replied, "The one you saw here just now. Her name is Demi. Are you satisfied with her?"

It turned out that he was referring to the woman who bumped into me just now. Well, she was cute. I liked her eyes which were like those of a frightened rabbit.

When she bumped into me, I seemed to have smelled the faint floral fragrance on her body, which made my heart beat faster.

Damn! Why did I feel like my heart was racing?

I always hated it when other people touched my body. As a matter of fact, I had never touched a woman in my forty years of existence in this world.

But when that woman's hand touched my chest just now, I didn't feel disgusted at all. I even felt my throat was slightly dry, and I had the impulse to hold her in my arms.

An idea suddenly occurred to me. I wanted that woman to give birth to a child for me, just in time for my need of a successor.

The elders in my family had been asking me to have a successor. Otherwise, they would let my brother, Cole, take my place.

But no way! That bastard Cole was not qualified to own the gangster kingdom I built with my own hands.

However, the elders insisted that I should have a successor. I was already forty, so they thought I was too old to live for a few more years.

I thought about it for a while and realized that William's proposal was useful to me.

So I looked down at him and said, "Okay, I accept your proposal. I will take your daughter with me. But you have only one year to get three million dollars and give it back to me. Otherwise, I'll kill your whole family."

William seemed surprised that I agreed with his proposal. The look on his face was hilarious. I didn't know if he wanted to cry or smile, or do both at the same time.

Invite your daughter. Let's have lunch together. After saying this, I turned around and left.

Chapter 2 Beg For Mercy

Demi's POV:

After I left the law firm, I wandered on the streets aimlessly. But that man I just saw outside my father's office didn't leave my mind. I couldn't help wondering what his relationship with my father was. My father had always been arrogant and never fawned over anyone like that before. It seemed there was something unusual with that man.

The phone in my pocket suddenly rang again. I took it out and checked, only to find that it was my father calling. I couldn't help frowning while staring at the screen. I didn't answer it, thinking that he would only scold me again. But my phone kept ringing. It seemed that my father wouldn't give up, so I had no choice but to answer it.

Demi, come to Moon Cheri Restaurant in King Street for lunch later. And make sure you dress up.

I was about to refuse, but my father seemed to have seen through my mind. He immediately warned, "If you come, I'll forget about what happened in the office today."

I had no choice but to reluctantly agree. I rushed back home and changed my clothes. I only put on lipstick and hurried to the French restaurant my father mentioned.

Judging from the fancy decorations, style, and ambiance of the restaurant, I must say that the dishes here were not cheap. My father was always stingy. He had never brought us to a fancy restaurant before. Besides, he said today that he owed the gangsters an enormous amount of money. So it was strange that he invited me to lunch here.

When I walked to the table, I found that my father was not alone. A man sat opposite my father with his back to me.

When my father saw me, he stood up and smiled amiably. "Demi, here you are. Come and sit here."

Wait! Did he just give me a flattering smile? I was taken aback for a moment.

As I stood there, still hesitating, the man with his back to me suddenly turned around. My eyes opened wide in shock as I recognized him at a glance. He was the man I ran into at my father's law firm this morning.

I froze in place when he fixed his sharp eyes on me.

My father walked up to me, took my arm, and let me sit opposite the man.

I lowered my head, trying to reduce my presence in his eyes. But much to my dismay, I could still feel his fiery gaze.

Suddenly, I felt a pain in my elbow. When I turned my head to have a look, I found that my father had pinched me. He leaned over slightly and urged in a low voice, "Pour wine for the gentleman."

I had no choice but to stand up and pour wine for the man. I kept my head down and watched as the dark red wine slowly flowed into the goblet in front of him.

I had already finished pouring wine into his goblet, but I noticed that he was still staring at me. I felt uncomfortable, and my heart skipped a beat. I gave him an embarrassed smile and said politely, "Please enjoy yourself."

Then I turned around and was about to go back to my seat. But much to my surprise, he suddenly grabbed my hand.

Ahhh! I was so shocked that I couldn't help screaming.

The man pulled me towards him. Unprepared, I lost my balance, making me sit on his lap. At this moment, his handsome face was only inches away from me. My heart beat faster as I looked at him.

He reached out, pinched my chin, and said in a dissatisfied tone, "I don't like women who wear lipstick."

As he spoke, his hot breath sprayed on my face, making me tremble all over.

God knew I had never been this close to a man.

I was so scared that I tried to break free from his grip. But his hand moved to my waist and held it tightly. He didn't intend to let me go. There was nothing I could do, so I closed my eyes awkwardly.

After a while, the man finally loosened his grip on me. I hurriedly stood up and fled back to my seat.

Then I turned to my father. And he didn't seem to mind the man's rude behavior at all. Instead, he watched us with a smile. He was obviously satisfied with what he was seeing.

Demi, take your time. I have something to deal with in the law firm, so I'll go first. Enjoy your lunch. My father suddenly said goodbye to me before I could even react.

Dad, no... I tried to stop him, but I was too late. He had already left.

I turned to the man and said, "I'm sorry, sir. I have to go back to work now. Please enjoy yourself." Then I quickly stood up, intending to leave.

He didn't say anything. He just looked at me, lowered his head, and took a sip of the wine, slowly tasting it.

But somehow, I felt like he was not tasting red wine. He was more like eating me alive and tasting me carefully.

But I didn't dare to think about it anymore. I seized the opportunity to escape.

However, as soon as I reached the door, two men in black grabbed me, one on the left and the other on the right. They wore sunglasses, and they were tall and sturdy, like the gangsters in movies.

I screamed in a panic. "What the hell are you doing? Let go of me!"

Miss, I'm sorry. You can't leave without our boss's permission, said one of the men.

Boss?

When I turned around, I saw the man leisurely walking towards me. Undoubtedly, he was the boss these men were talking about.

He stood in front of me. At this moment, anger overwhelmed the fear in my heart. I roared, "What on earth do you want?"

He didn't answer me. Instead, he waved his hand. Then the two men let go of me and quickly disappeared from our sight.

But I didn't feel relieved at all. The man's strong presence made me feel like a pair of invisible big hands were grasping my heart, making me gasp for breath.

He wrapped his arms around my waist, making me have no way back. Then he snickered wickedly. "Your father sold you to me for three million dollars. Don't you think you are too valuable and expensive?"

I struggled a few more times, but my effort was in vain.

I looked at him angrily. "My father is a jerk! And you... You are also a bastard!"

The man only laughed at me. "Don't worry. Your father will pay me back in a year. Then he can take you home. All you need to do during this period is to be obedient. But of course, if you don't listen to me, I will feed you and your family to the sharks."

I was rendered speechless upon hearing this. Because he didn't seem to be joking at all.

Since I had nowhere to escape, I lowered my head and followed him into the car, disheartened.

We both sat in the back. I stuck myself against the door, trying to stay away from the man.

Suddenly, he asked, "Do you have a boyfriend?"

I looked at him in surprise, wondering why he asked. But still, I answered honestly, "No."

The man nodded happily. "You have one now."

What? I had a boyfriend now? Who? Was he referring to himself?

At the thought of this, my heart trembled uncontrollably. I unconsciously bit my lower lip, trying to overcome the fear in my heart.

This horrible man? How could he be my boyfriend? No way! This was unacceptable!

The man suddenly approached me. He reached out, pinched my chin, and turned my face to him. "Stop biting yourself anymore. Your lip is already bleeding."

As he spoke, he gently stroked my lip with his finger. Such an intimate gesture made me tremble all over.

I tried so hard to push him away. But he pressed me heavily in the seat.

I couldn't move a muscle. I was so scared that I cried out loud, begging for mercy. "Please let me go. I'm begging you."

The expression on the man's face changed. He sneered, "Let you go? To the sea to feed the sharks?"

His answer left me speechless. I slumped in my seat, letting despair engulf me.

When the man saw that I stopped struggling, he moved away and sat at the side. He didn't talk to me again along the way.

I couldn't help thinking that maybe he didn't like crying women. Maybe I pissed him off, and he wouldn't want to keep me anymore.

Chapter 3 A Brave Woman

Ares' POV:

I could tell from Demi's reaction that she was afraid of me. When I saw the tears in her eyes, my heart softened, and I stopped teasing her.

I took out my laptop, and my fingers quickly tapped on the keyboard. I decided to start working to divert my attention.

I intended to give my club a major overhaul. I needed to add some new slot machines. I was also considering building a new stage for dancers and performers.

In this way, I could consolidate more money laundering operations without arousing suspicions.

It was time to satisfy my family's demands. After all, they had been pressuring me to expand my business. At first, they were very happy that I had revived our family business and regained our lost reputation. I thought it was enough. But they had become greedier and greedier.

When the business was on the verge of collapsing, it was handed over to me. Then I made it better.

On the screen of my laptop, I marked some places on the blueprint that the architect had sent me. Then I sent it back to him and asked him to make some modifications.

I was changing my mind from time to time recently. But he was very patient with me. After all, I paid him handsomely.

I was absorbed in my thoughts when the car suddenly screeched to a halt.

Gio, in the passenger seat, looked back at me and said, "Boss, there seems to be something wrong in the front."

I put my laptop aside and rolled down the car window.

There was a car accident ahead of us. And two men were shouting and arguing about something.

My driver got out of the car to check the situation. I squinted and looked ahead.

My gut feeling was telling me that something was wrong. The street was strangely empty. Aside from my car and the other two cars ahead, there were no other vehicles around.

There was no single pedestrian on the road, and all the shops on the roadside were closed.

As the suspicion in my heart grew stronger, I motioned for my driver to come back.

But when he was about to walk towards me, a gunshot rang out.

The enemy fired.

I hurriedly pulled Demi over and hid her behind the front seat. She was in a daze, obviously confused about what was going on.

It was a surprise attack, and I was caught off guard.

I stared into Demi's eyes and warned in a low voice, "Listen to me. If you don't want to die, just lie here quietly."

I saw Demi nod slightly. Although she looked terrified, she didn't scream or cry. I was very satisfied with her obedience.

After making sure that she was in a safe position, I opened the hidden compartment under the seat, took out the gun, opened the door carefully, and got out of the car.

Gio also got out of the car, cautiously crawled to where I was, and reached out to me.

I handed him a Vector and turned to check the Uzi in my hand. After I confirmed that there was no problem with the gun, I sneaked to the other side of the car. But at this moment, the gunshot suddenly stopped.

I wondered why, so I poked my head out to check the situation. And I was surprised by the scene in front of me.

Ten men with heavy assault rifles appeared on the opposite side, aiming at my car. One of them even held an RBG, looking ferocious. I couldn't help cursing in a low voice, "Fuck!"

I held the gun in my hand tightly. It turned out that they didn't even want to tell me the reason before killing me.

But I already had a guess. I knew that some of my family hated me, but assassination was another matter.

I heard Gio whistle, and I answered him with a few knocks on the door. He was telling me that our driver was dead, and we might soon be the next.

He suggested that we first take down the person with the RBG before we dealt with the others. I agreed with him.

I knocked on the door three times in response. It was my way of telling him that I had a clear view of my position and that I could take down the person with RBG.

Then I took a deep breath, aimed at that person, and fired.

And my judgment was correct. The man fell to the ground and stopped breathing.

The other men screamed and cursed. They also fired. It took Gio and me five minutes to kill all ten of them.

When I thought it was over, I turned to look at Demi, wanting to comfort her. But I was shocked to see that someone was pointing a gun at the back of her head.

Demi looked at me with fear in her eyes. But I could see her gritting her teeth. I could tell that she was trying not to scream.

I pounced on the man, knocked off the gun in his hand, and tussled with him.

Then I punched him twice in the abdomen. But he didn't fall down. He still fought against me stubbornly.

When he was about to punch me, I blocked his fist with one hand and rummaged for the dagger in my pocket with the other.

Although I successfully took out the dagger, I got distracted and was accidentally pushed to the ground by him. He straddled my waist. His face flushed with excitement as he tried to push the dagger into my chest.

At this critical moment, Demi screamed in horror and kicked the man away.

She didn't have much strength, but it was enough to distract the man. I seized this opportunity to hold the dagger and fought back. In the blink of an eye, I cut his throat accurately.

The man's eyes opened wide in disbelief. He hurriedly reached out to cover his throat with gurgling blood. But he was still unable to resist death. After a while, he stopped breathing.

I took a deep breath and stood up.

You... You're hurt... Demi mumbled. Her voice was full of fear.

When I heard this, I looked down and found the white shirt under my suit was dyed red with blood. It looked terrible. I clicked my tongue, dusted my clothes, and gave Demi a reassuring smile. "It's not my blood."

Gio and I walked around the scene and scanned the massacre we had created.

He sighed, put our dead driver into the trunk of the car, and called someone to deal with the mess we left on the street.

After this, we got in the car and continued our journey.

Ares, I have already reminded you. Even though your family smile at you and flatter you, they all have secret evil intentions. They don't want you to take that position, Gio complained while driving.

But I chose to ignore his words because I knew them well.

I turned to look at Demi and found she looked very nervous. She was like a rabbit that had just escaped from a hunter. Although she had escaped, she was still frightened.

Don't worry. I'm very powerful. I won't let you marry me and become a widow immediately, I teased her.

Demi glared at me with a flushed face. No one dared to look at me like this, but I wasn't angry at all.

I noticed that her shoulders drooped, and she looked a little relaxed.

I achieved my goal, so I smiled with satisfaction. With such a sudden situation just now, I knew she was scared. But I saw how she had refrained herself from screaming out loud. And I was happy with this.

The woman standing beside me must be very strong. It was a good thing that she was a brave woman. After all, cowards were doomed to die soon.
