Sophie's Point Of View.
I used to believe that being the only child of the Alpha of Full Moon Pack comes with a lot of benefits.
Unfortunately, I was wrong.
To the pack members, I was weak, timid and hopeless.
A thousand times I was humiliated and rejected by those that meant the world to me. All these calamities befell me because I was wolf less.
My life companion seemed to be the humiliation, it always kept me company as the days passed by. But tonight, my hopes of finding a mate might come alive.
The mating ball was tonight.
The night I've looked forward to as a child.
The night meant a lot to every young wolf in a full moon pack. It's the night when we found our fated mates.
My father, Alpha Draxler Alphonsus, believes finding my mate will unlock my inner wolf. Who am I to doubt his words of wisdom?
I headed down the hall, toward the grand hall. The sound of my heels clattered against the polished floor. It had been worth the hours tonight to get ready.
Although I was beyond nervous, a spark of it just couldn't help but course through my veins.
The closer I got to the entrance of the hall, the more anxious I became.
I was mentally paralyzed, taking a deep breath. "I can do this. There's no point panicking,"
The hall was beautiful-flowers draped over colored walls, delicate lanterns casting warm glows over the pack members milling around.
Everyone seemed so excited to meet their mates.
"I cannot believe she showed up
What a wasted effort," a voice whispered from close range.
"Why is she here anyway?
Does she really think anyone will claim her? She gotta leave now to save herself from embarrassment." Another voice added. They weren't bothered if I heard them or not.
Those words were blunt than a double edged sword as they punctured my heart like a dagger.
I refused to be intimidated by the side talks. The night was too important to let them ruin me.
"Sophie!" My father's voice booms above the din, and my head snaps toward him immediately.
"Father," I answered with a forced smile.
I never wanted my Father to have the slightest idea that I was the female werewolf making a joke of me.
"The hall does look awesome. Mom outdid herself again." I started the conversation with my Father after combing the four corners of the hall.
"You bet she does.
She sure has a good taste." He endorsed my observation
"But guess who's more beautiful, you my daughter. You're the epitome of beauty." My Father teased me with his flattering words.
"Thank you," I responded in my quiet gratitude, knowing dad would always have my back.
Where the pack treated me like trash, my parents have never abandoned me in any way. They always reminded me how special I was.
Where my wolf would ever appear, my father-the Alpha-has never given up. This event in its entirety, right down to every minor detail, was organized by my mother, Luna Anita.
They have done everything in their power to protect me. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to shield me from the cruel reality of being different in a pack that values strength above all else.
As everyone sat down, my heart began to pound heavily like the drums of war.
The anticipation rises to a fever pitch.
"Soon, the ceremony will begin, and I will find him-my mate. The one that will accept me, even in my woofless state," I spoke within me.
"Hey, Moon pie.
Are you nervous?" my father asked me as he turned towards my direction.
He addressed me by my pet name.
I couldn't recall the last time he did that.
"A bit," I admit, fidgeting with the fabric of my dress.
There's no point playing hide and seek when the truth was boldly written on my face.
"What if no one wants me?" I freaked out.
"Don't you dare," my father shut me out immediately.
"Do I need to remind you who you're? Any man who rejects you would be a fool."
I smiled at his confidence, but that fear was still there.
I had a lot of questions in my head that can't be answered as I heard the footsteps of the messenger.
His voice rises and re-echoes around the hall to announce the start of the mating ritual.
I felt the rise of my adrenaline.
This is it. This was the moment I knew I had been waiting for.
I stood, caressing my dress for the very last time, and then looked around the room as if searching for something.
The pack members were also on their feets, their eyes lit with anticipation. The tension increased in the air, it became thick and heavy.
The room was filled with a lot of opportunities, with so many futures at stake.
I take a deep breath and step forward to join the ceremony. The echo of my father's words still echoes in my head: "
Don't force it. You will know him when you see him"
"Who would he be? What would he look like? More importantly, would he accept me just the way I was?" I mumbled succinctly.
The ceremony kicks in, and I stand at the very edge of my future, waiting for that one moment that will change it all.
"Welcome to our annual mating ceremony. We are all aware that this ceremony is performed on the night of the full moon.
This ceremony unites two young werewolves and bonds them together as one.
After they have mated, they will howl under the full moon to accept each other as mates and unite to form one.
I just want you to know that from now on, you and your chosen mate are one and should always protect one another.
So now, let the annual mating ceremony begin." Ariel the pack witch, spoke as the drum rolls began.
"Who do you think will be your mate?" My father asked me in anticipation.
"Honestly, I have no father. I just hope the moon goddess has something good planned for me," I answered.
My head was blank like the pages of a new book.
Ariel began chanting some words as the entire hall light flickered before going out all at once, leaving the hall in darkness.
The hall fell silent, as a ray of light illuminated the center. Everyone couldn't help but shiver as they witnessed this incredible sight.
The temperature dropped abruptly. Even though there was no visible presence, it felt like one had arrived.
Two blue rays of light fell from the sky, penetrating the palace and landing on werewolves.
They both shrieked when they saw the light on their head and moved to the center of the hall to see who their fated mates were.
The palace fell silent again, Two lights appeared once again.
One of the lights shone on me and I moved to the center of the hall. The hall was dead silent as I was eager to see my mate.
Sophie's Point Of View.
I glanced from both sides, anticipating the feeling when I finally met my mate."I want to meet him, whoever he is. I just want to meet him,"
"That's not possible, She can't be my mate. She's not fit enough," I turned around at the voice of Beta Julian
as he moved to the center of the hall. The second light was visible right on his forehead.
Who would have envisaged that my father's Beta is my mate, and I didn't suspect all along?
I shut my eyes to see if I would experience a change in my body or hear the voice of my inner wolf connecting with me, but nothing of such happened.
Inside of me was quite like a graveyard.
I opened my eyes slowly to see the disgusted look on my mate's face as he glared at me with anger in his eyes.
"I, Beta Julian of the full moon pack, reject you, Sophie Alphonsus, as my mate." I heard Julian's words of rejection again. This time, it echoed in my head like a bell.
The whole pack was dead silent, waiting for my reaction. They were curious to find out if I would accept his rejection of the mate bond.
I was still wondering why I didn't feel any change after meeting my mate. Was I cursed? I think the pack members are right in calling me the Alpha's plague.
From what I believed, no one has rejected a mate in the full moon pack, in all the years of my existence in it.
If it happened in the past, my Father would have told me about it.
"Or was it done in the other packs that I wasn't aware of?" I thought again and shut my eyes. How real was this curse?
My Father arose to his feet and walked towards me. "Sophie, my dearest daughter, the entire pack is waiting for you to decide. Would you accept or reject him the same way he rejected you?"
I closed my eyes in thought. "What's the essence of being with someone who hates me? Especially when the mate bonding didn't cause any significant change in my life. I am still woofless and weak."
I opened my eyes and buried my face to the ground as I accepted the mate bond rejection. " I, Sophie Alphonsus, the Alpha's daughter of the full moon pack, hereby accept the mate bond rejection from Beta Julian. From now on, we are no longer mates."
Suddenly, noises filled the hall.
I looked up, expecting to see the hatred and disgust on the faces of the pack members.
I was wrong.
Instead, I saw blood spills in the air.
I also heard people screaming in pain as they fell to the floor dead.
"Sophie, run and save yourself." I heard my father's warning tone before he shifted to his wolf form to save his pack members from the enemies.
I just stood there in shock with my mouth widened, astonishing at the sudden change in the atmosphere.
"Was I cursed and a plague to the nightfall pack and my father? Why would the enemies suddenly attack immediately after I accepted my mate's rejection?"
All these thoughts were running through my mind while the massacre of my people happened right in my very eyes.
The worrisome scream of my mother brought me back to my present surroundings, causing me to turn back around to see what had transpired.
I saw an arrow being shot at my father by a fierce-looking man he was fighting with.
My father fell flat on the floor, wounded and bleeding profusely as he shaped shit to his human form.
I ran over to him, crying profusely as I held his bloody body. He was barely breathing.
"Father, I beg of you, don't die on me.
I don't want to be left alone in this evil world,". Tears were streaming down my eyes as I held his body close to my chest.
Suddenly, he opened his eyes.
His eyes reflected the pain he felt.
He said to me with a voice full of pain.
"Save yourself, Sophie. Run and save yourself from him. Else, he's going to kill you"
I tried checking for his impulse but felt nothing. At that point, he stopped breathing.
"No! He can't be dead. Why did he heal like every other normal wolf?" I asked myself rhetorically as my voice echoed back to me as though we were in an empty hall.
It turns out my father was shot with a silver bullet and wolfsbane, two of the most dangerous weapons to kill and weaken a werewolf from healing.
Crying at the lifeless body of my father, I looked around for my mother and Beta Julian but couldn't find them anywhere in the hall.
Some pack members were still fighting the enemies to defend their pack and save their lives.
"Where could my mother have gone? Where was Beta Julian when my father was being shot and killed?
Why was he not protected by the pack guards and soldiers? He is the Alpha of the biggest pack in the wolf clan. And he was murdered like an ordinary wolf with the lowest ranking."
I was angry and pained, with tears streaming down my eyes.
My father, my world, and number one supporter, is dead. I killed him with my curse.
The pack members were right about me. I am indeed the Alpha's Waterloo.
I stood up and tried to run for safety and yield to my father's last warning.
As I ran towards the entrance a muscular hand suddenly grabbed my waist, taking me by surprise.
I struggled to free myself from his grip. I cried for help.
I pleaded for him to let me go.
But his grip became tighter, causing me pain in my waist region.
I twisted my body amidst the pain I was feeling from his tight grip to look at the face of the man holding me on the waist.
And stare at the cold and angry-looking face of the man who murdered my father in cold blood. That was the last thing I remembered before I lost consciousness.
I was forcefully brought back to consciousness when a cold bucket of water was splashed on my body.
Shivering from the cold, I looked around my surroundings and noticed I was locked in a dungeon in the full moon Pack.
The ugly memory of what happened last night at the mating ball ceremony came flooding back at me, bringing me to the present reality of my life.
It made me realize that I wasn't hallucinating all along.
The cell was suddenly opened by a fierce-looking guard.
"Who are you? Why am I here?"
I asked.
The guard came inside and dragged me out without saying a word. He held me roughly, dragging me with him to a place I couldn't fathom.
I couldn't question him too because I was scared that he might hurt me. .
"Where are you taking me to? Please tell me if my mother is still alive." I finally summoned the courage to speak up!
He kept ignoring me until he suddenly stopped dragging me.
I looked up to see myself in the pack's new building. My father just finished the new pack building project and planned to move in after the mating ball ceremony, before he was killed.
"Who was this villain that killed my father and took over the full moon pack?" I wondered.
As though he could hear my thoughts, Alpha Lottana came out of the new building as the guard bowed to him in respect.
"My greetings Alpha Lottana. Here is the late Alpha's daughter you asked to be brought to you." The guard said and pushed me forward.
I started shaking in fear, my heart was beating fast when I saw his face and his cold look.
I was standing right in front of the man who murdered my father and captured me alive.
I have heard about Alpha Lottana's devilish acts of wickedness to other packs and his many concubines.
"I was told you're cursed and without a wolf. You are weak and useless and don't have any value to this pack except in my bed as my concubine. Choose now to be one of my concubines, or you die." Alpha Lottana said in a mean and authoritative voice.
The pack members once threatened to sell me to Alpha Lottana as one of his concubines. I guessed their wish was about to become a reality.
I wasn't bothered if I lived or died anymore. I had lost everything precious to her.
I also had a feeling that my mother was killed by the same enemies.
I was about to tell him that I would rather die than be his concubine when my mother, Luna Anita, was also dragged out by the same guard that dragged me to Alpha Lottana.
"You're still alive, Mom. Are you alright? Did they hurt you?" I threw many questions at my mother without allowing her a breathing space to process her response.
"Enough of this nonsense." Alpha Lottana bellowed which made me and my mother shake in fear.
"I gave you an option. You have a choice to save you and your mother's life by becoming one of my concubines, or I'll kill the both of you now." Lottana warned. His baritone voice was more ferocious like a thunderstorm.
It was so heart-wrenching for me to see my mother go through this after losing my father. I didn't want to lose her the same way too.
She just has to save them and keep them alive until they take back her father's pack.
."I'm not doing this because I want to; I'm doing it to save my mother's life and not because I want to be your concubine." I sneered at him.
"It's none of my business if you want to or not. My guards will take you to my Castle." Alpha Lottana bellowed as he walked out on us.
"I'm sorry, mom. I'm so sorry." I muffled in my mom's arms as tears began to flow down my cheeks.
My mother's posture was bad.
I could tell from the way I struggled to hold her. She must have been through so much.
"It's okay dear. You didn't have to sell yourself to him. Alpha Lottana is too ruthless for you. You shouldn't have," My mother lamented.
"I had no choice, Mom. I had to do something or else we wouldn't be alive to take revenge on him." I explained, releasing myself from their embrace.
The guard scoffed and tilted his head to signal me to move along. I gave my mother one last hug before I was dragged out by the guard.
"Why am I so unlucky? Why does the moon goddess hate me so much?" I cried uncontrollably as the guard led me to Lottana Castle.
We got to the front of the mansion's gate and my hands began to tremble.
I was terrified of what I would be expected to do as we walked into the mansion and went straight into Lottana's chambers.
Alpha Lottana was seated on his gold-encrusted couch that faced the door to the chambers.
He got off the couch and his cold eyes were fixed on me, his gaze pierced into my soul. I couldn't dare make eye contact for too long.
"You have made yourself useful for once in your pathetic life. Your mother would be free to leave or stay."
I made a huge mistake. I was unable to hold in the pain I felt in my heart.
If only I had a wolf, perhaps things wouldn't have turned out the way it is.
"Your weakness amuses me." Lottana babbled, an awkward frown taking control of his face.
He's right, without a wolf, I'm nothing, just another pitiful weakling.
"I'm more than you think, Alpha.
Don't underestimate me.," I responded, wiping the tears off my face.
"Haha!" Lottana erupted with laughter.
"Oh really? I would love to see the stuff you're made of." he spoke sarcastically and placed his hands on my shoulders, pretending to care about what I had to say.
"Look here, I have two sons and 77 concubines. You shall not only serve me but them also." he said in a firm voice, displaying his dominance.
77 concubines? Is that even allowed? What a piece of crap!
