Chapter 1 Gladys

Gladys walked inside the club with her pair of suits and she walked to sit on the barstool looking depressed.

She heaved a sigh as the barman walked to her.

"Here again. You failed your interview again?" The barman, Mr Brown asked and Gladys sighed heavily, like she was going to die the next minute.

"Chill up, you'd just have to continue trying." He coaxed pouring a white wine into a bar cup.

"I hope I won't have to stop trying when it's time for me to die." She snoots collecting the cup of wine from Mr. Brown.

"Of course by then you'd have achieved your dream girl. I'm sure you won't wanna miss tonight's party." He added and Gladys chuckled as she watched him serve another customer.

The club was run by him and she had known him since when she packed to the upper apartment and he had been like a father to her.

The club was going crazy with people rushing in and dancing their sorrows out.

Gladys Morgan is a lady in her mid-twenties, a graduate who has no jobs at hand.

She's the only daughter of her mother and her runaway father. Searching for jobs and getting rejected has become a hobby and she was bent on making sure she wouldn't give up unless she has a good job at hand.

She took a sip from the wine and she turned back to the club, it was as lively as she wanted and it soothes her depressed state.

"Hey." A guy walked towards her and Gladys looked at him.

"Hi, Jackson." She called with a small smile.

"Oh, you here again?" Jackson said and Gladys shrugged.

She wasn't a party freaky but for depressed sake, she became one and anytime anyone familiar with her sees her in the club, they'd understand that she was rejected at a company.

"You got a rejection," Jackson says sitting on another barstool beside her and she smirks, gulping down the whole wine down to her throat.

"Yes and luckily I'll be trying another one tomorrow." She told him with a bright smile.

"Yeah, I like that." Jackson encouraged her and Mr Brown walked back to them.

"What can I get you, son?" Mr. Brown asked him like a shout because of the loud music blaring out from the speaker.

"Anything less alcoholic Dad," Jackson replied and his dad was on the move.

"How was your day today?" Gladys decided to start a new conversation.

"As usual. Bosses yell and so... Having a job is a lot tiring." He answered.

"At least if I could have one." Gladys chipped in sharply and Jackson chuckled.

His dad walked back giving him a glass and he went to continue serving other customers.

"Okay, this time I need to get myself drunk," Gladys said and Jackson nodded.

"Yeah, you should." He replied, not interested in stopping her and Gladys began placing orders.

It was midnight already, the club was still lively and Gladys had drunk herself to stupor.

Jackson didn't stop her because he knew it was going to be futile, Gladys was a stubborn girl and she would do anything she wanted if she liked it, so he just watched her stand up and join the crowds in dancing their sorrows out.

.

The bright morning came with a shining sun and Gladys still on the bed, welcomed by her fantasy world, dreamt about herself being married to a responsible husband, having a beautiful romance and her cute five kids were all calling her mummy.

She was enjoying her dream come true in a dream and wished not to wake up from that dream, not until her mother came with a good slap on the back, she was snapped back to reality.

"Get up and start your day! It's morning already." Her mother yelled and Gladys yawned feigning a frown at her mother for disrupting her sleep.

"When would you allow me to sleep well?" Gladys asked sarcastically.

"Until you learn to walk up here without Jackson having to carry you after being drunk." Her mother answered sharply and Gladys smirked.

"He is my friend after all." She mumbled and her mother shot her a glare.

"You'd be late for the interview." Mrs Morgan added walking out of Gladys' room.

Gladys grumbled as she fought the air angrily.

.

Half an hour later, she was done with tidying her room, brushing her teeth, and bathing. She packed her black hair into ponytail and made them fall on her back and she walked out of her room.

"Come have breakfast before you go." Her mother called and she walked hesitantly to the dining area.

She sat down and her mother began serving her the plantains and scrambled eggs she had been preparing.

"Here dig in." Mrs Morgan offered and Gladys began eating.

One reason for Gladys' wish of having a perfect husband and family was because her father failed her mother and therefore her mother always vent her anger on her.

Gladys wanted to have a perfect family and wanted to prove to her mother that having a family could be a beautiful thing and to others who had mocked her about her runaway father. She wanted to prove to them that she could have her own life with a perfect husband.

After finishing up the food, Gladys was set to go, she took her handbag and hurried out of the apartment.

She climbed down the stairs and within a minute, she was out on the street.

It was strange to notice that rain had fallen the previous night, and she blamed it on the drinks she had last night.

She began walking down the street, avoiding some rainwater on the floor and as she walked a car drove past her using its tires to splash the floor rainwater on her skirt.

"What the fuck is wrong with your driving asshole!" She yelled angrily, noticing that her skirt had been stained.

The car pulled to a stop and she walked hurriedly to it.

Chapter 2 Caden

Before the incident...

.

He walked out of the walk-in closet, dressed already in his red suit and his hair styled.

He made some phone calls mostly talking about some business and contracts.

He walked out of his bedroom and to the hallway.

As he walked down the stairs, his younger brother ran to him.

"Good morning Caden." Lawrence greeted and Caden ended the phone call as he carried his five-year-old brother.

"Morning Lawn," Caden answered, pecking his cheek as he walked to the dining area.

He dropped his younger brother on the dining chairs and he sat beside him.

His parents joined them for breakfast and the cook served them.

"How's business going these days?" Mr. Morrow asks, he was the founder of Morrow fashion company and Morrow models before passing the companies onto his son, Caden.

"Great so far. The new designs our fashion designers have designed will be launched next week." Caden replied as he used the cutlery in cutting the turkey on his plate.

"I guess you'll need new employees." Mr Morrow said and Caden nodded.

"We're taking on people in their mid-twenties, no less than ten employees are needed." He adds in

"Okay. Tell me if you need anything else." His dad added as he sipped the juice.

"And the model----"

"Darlin, talk about business later, let Caden eat in peace." Mrs Morrow interrupted and her husband cleared his throat.

"Okay then." He agreed.

Caden was done with eating and after having a brief business talk with his dad since that's what they always seem to talk about as father and son. They ended the discussion with a little argument and this made Caden stomp out angrily and enter his car and drive out of their big compound.

His father seems to always find fault in him and always compares him with his cousin and this always makes Caden feel bad.

He always worked his bones off as the CEO of the company his dad passed to him, still, his father has never felt proud of his achievement but kept on comparing his cousin's little achievements to his.

He drove to the road and there, he was caught in traffic and he decided to U-turn.

He turned the car to the street, though he doesn't like taking street roads, but he had to and as he drove to the street, it was better for him than wasting his time on traffic hold-ups.

He was driving in peace not until he heard a lady's aggressive voice cursing at him and he stopped the car.

What's wrong with middle-class people?

He thought as he alighted from the car.

Gladys walked towards him in rage but Caden still didn't get what he had done wrong and he was the first to talk.

"Hello, Miss. Do you have a grudge against me for swearing that loud?" Caden asked politely and Gladys chuckled.

"I don't know you, not until you stain my skirt." She fired and he looked at her skirt and there his eyes searched what might be under that beautiful skirt of hers.

However, he didn't understand what she meant and he gave a questioning look.

"You used your goddamn tires to splash those waters on the floor on me." She told him and he looked at her skirt again and her legs were so charming.

It wouldn't be bad having her on his bed.

But that wasn't the case, she was an angry bird.

"Okay, whatever it is, I'm sorry." Caden apologized about entering his car.

"Do you think sorry's gonna cut this off? I'm on my way to an interview and if you were the boss that was meant to interview me would you accept my stained skirt?" She asked rhetorically.

Not like she was mad at Caden for using water to wet her skirt, she just needed someone to yell at.

"Okay," Caden answered as he tucked his hand in his pocket and brought out some money. "This might be enough for compensation." He says stretching out the money at her and Gladys scoffed.

"If I don't get employed today Mr blind driver, you dare know that you are at fault." She blurted out and glared at his car before walking away and Caden smirked.

"Okay, she's crazy. Yes, very." Caden decided to think that as he hopped in and drove away, wondering if they will meet again.

.

Gladys made her way to the bus stop and she stood with the other passengers waiting for the bus to arrive.

It was great having to yell her frustrations at someone, it has been a while since she has done that and at least it gave her new hope and heads-up to face the interview she was going for.

She sighed a bit as the bus finally arrived and they all rushed in.

She took her seat and looked out the window.

The interview she was going for was a fashion company and hopelessly for her, she knew deep down she wouldn't be accepted.

She wasn't good with fashions or dress codes, nevertheless, she wanted to try her best.

.

Caden drove to the company and as he alighted, his manager who was standing outside the company walked with him and they entered the company together.

Caden made his way to the elevator, discussing some business talks with his manager and he walked to the hallway and his office.

"Let the meeting be later in the noon, I need to sort something out as it is." He spoke to his manager who nodded understandingly before walking out of his office.

He picked out some files and read through them, signing and operating on the computer and his manager walked in again.

"A reminder, you said you wanted to join in interviewing the new employees." Caden's manager reminded him.

"Oh, lest I forget. When is the interview taking place?" He asked.

"In the next fifteen minutes sir."

"Okay, I better start preparing." He says standing up and taking a file along with him.

Chapter 3 Interview

Gladys walked inside the compound, as expected it was a fashion aura she felt, and seeing ladies like her dressed so fashionably made her feel inferior.

She walked shyly inside the company and security asked about her appointment and she as well replied she was there for a job.

"Okay ma'am, please go to the hallway to your right, there is where all interviewees will be interviewed" The security man informed her and Gladys nodded walking with some ladies to the directed hall.

They climbed up on some staircases and on getting there it was full of a crowd, mostly ladies and all looking elegantly dressed.

"You put that on, knowing well you're coming to a fashion company?" A lady said sarcastically and Gladys stopped on her track.

"Dressing like a suit's all that matters." Another lady says mockingly as Gladys turns to them.

She smiled a bit walking a bit closer to the three ladies.

"Better than who dressed like a whore." She fired and the second lady snoot walking closer to Gladys.

"You won't wanna compare yourself with us right." The lady says.

"Oops, does it----"

"You don't need to exchange words with ' em. You don't need it." A short bulb hair girl interrupted and Gladys glance at her.

"I'm Naomi by the way." She introduced herself with a smile and Gladys smiled shooting a dreadful glare at the two ladies.

"Let's go take a sit, I'm number 14." Naomi chipped in.

"Oh great, I'm Gladys no 15," Gladys added and they chuckled walking to take a sit.

"It has been my dream to work in Morrow's fashion company you know," Naomi told Gladys beaming with a smile.

"Oh, I bet you're going to get in," Gladys assured.

"You too," Naomi says to Gladys...

"I don't think so," Gladys smirked.

"Why? You look just like a fashion company employee."

"I'll take that as a compliment." Gladys appreciated

"Attention everyone." The man who walked in shouted, getting everyone's attention.

"The interview will start within a minute and as you all know only ten employees are needed so if you did get the job, congratulations, and if you didn't we offer our sincerest apologies and hope you try later." He stated.

"Number one to three please go in." He adds in and the numbered young ladies quickly walk in.

"We've got this okay," Naomi assured widening her eye and Gladys muttered a yes.

Hoping at the littlest bit that she would get the job even if she ends up being the tenth chosen employee

The calling of numbers went on and on and Mr Alfred walked out of where the interview was taking place and he finally called out number thirteen to fifteen.

"Oh, we're going in together," Naomi said happily and Gladys nodded.

She smiled a bit to clear the nervousness she was beginning to feel which always happens whenever she was going for an interview.

With a little sigh, she walked in with Naomi and the other guy who she assumed to be the number thirteen.

"Take your seat accordingly." Mr. Alfred says to them as Naomi hurries to sit in the middle and Gladys walked slowly bowing her head, and sitting beside Naomi.

As soon as she took her seat she assured herself that she could make herself proud and she raised her head.

"You may introduce yourselves." The guy in the middle sitting opposite them started and Gladys glance at him and she recognized him at once to be the guy she met earlier the morning on her way.

And what she didn't expect was how she reacted

"What!" She screamed unknowingly and Naomi look at her with everyone in the room not exceeded, as they all stare at her.

"Are you okay?" Naomi whispered and the attention Gladys got made her feel more uncomfortable with Caden pretending not to have met her before.

"Are you okay Miss?" He asked and Gladys bowed a bit biting her lower lip and wishing she could just disappear.

"We can continue." He added.

"I'm Naomi Gabriels." Naomi introduced herself, still with a smile.

"I. I'm Gladys, Gladys Morgan." Gladys chipped in.

"If you're going to act like an antisocial*, then I bet you're not ready to take this job." Caden say strictly and Gladys felt embarrassed breathing out silently muttering ' I can do this

She slowly raised her head and his shining golden brown balls met with hers.

She became trapped in that eyes of his.

She wanted to stop, but she couldn't, his eyes were just too beautiful to ignore and she just wanted to enjoy the free moment of having to see such clean brown eyes.

The eye contest stopped with him having to ask about their qualifications and the interview began.

It was steaming, still memorable for Gladys, she could feel his eyes on her and her eyes were also all over him.

He was asking questions and would knowingly give her more time to answer his questions and express herself which made Gladys filled with hope.

The interview went on and Gladys was able to let go of her naiveness.

Sometimes he would be strict with her and other times he would be lovely and she came to like him.

She didn't know what position he held in the company, still, she was curious about him.

"We'd be rounding off the interview with having to hear you guys answer this question." A man beside Caden announced.

"If you were to suggest a design our company should launch, what would be your opinion?" Caden asked, guessing that Gladys wouldn't have any sense of fashion ideas since all the questions he had been asking her were not well answered.

The guy beside Naomi said his opinion which the interviewers appreciated and it was Naomi's turn and as usual, she was bright with a smile.

"I would suggest a baby's coat," Naomi answered and Caden smiled at her making Gladys think he was a womanizer.

"You." He snapped at Gladys.

"I. I think..." Gladys stuttered. "Men's pants." She blurted and the guy who was beside Naomi was the first person who started laughing.

Okay, what was she thinking?

Gladys snapped back to reality realizing the shit she just blurted. Naomi gave her a surprised look and Caden's face wasn't at all friendly.

"I guess you've got something with men," Caden said sarcastically at her and she just managed to shake her head negatively.

"I don't think you're ready on taking this job though." He concluded and she was back to her dull mood.
