The rain was falling heavily, those with good house enjoyed the weather but not someone like jerry - a special rain was inside his house, the leaking roof!
Aria placed a bucket on the floor, the water dripping from the roof was now entering into the bucket.
"Perfect" She sighed and went into the other room.
It was the room shared by she and her brother, it only had a bed in it, most of their things got spoilt because of their leaking roof.
She got into the room and saw her brother crying, it wasn't new to her, she went to him and squatted on the floor.
"Jerry, if you are gonna keep crying like this what am i gonna do? Huh?" She asked but got no reply.
She pulled him to herself, engaging him in a hug, she patted his hair slowly and he disengaged from the hug after some time.
"It's raining now, for how long are we going to keep cleaning the whole house when it rains?....I just don't know what to do. We are both nineteen now and it's our responsibility to take care of our mum but we have nothing, we aren't even educated, for how long?" He lamented and she bit her nail.
It took sometime before she spoke up. "Everything is gonna be fine" She said, encouraging her twin brother.
"Sometimes I wonder if we are really twin, I am supposed to be older than you with few years" Aria suddenly said.
Jerry wiped his tears and gave her a stare. "And why is that?" He asked and she chuckled.
"Look at me, I'm a girl and you are a boy, you are supposed to be the one cheering me up, not the other way round... You are being too emotional" She explained.
"Am I? Well, it's not my fault" Jerry rolled his eyes at her.
"Then whose fault is it? Mum?" She asked.
"I never said that, you know I love her more than anything" He quickly replied.
She stood up and tucked a strand of her hair behind her right ear.
"Some people don't even have anything to call a house, they don't even have anywhere to stay, but we have a house....The least you can do is to be grateful, we might not be educated but we know that being grateful and trustworthy pays." She stated and walked away.
Jerry stood up from the floor and when he thought of Lillian, he smiled.
The love of his life!
****
After staring around to make sure no one was watching her, Lillian took some eggs and kept it in her bag, she took the rest ingredients for making an omelette and kept it in her bag.
She turned and was shocked to see someone standing at the kitchen door.
"Sabrina, you startled me" Lillian muttered as she placed her right palm on her chest.
"Really?" Sabrina scoffed.
"You think stealing foodstuffs is right, just because you want to give it to him?... Your parents aren't too rich but you are running a charity organization, who does that?"
"Don't try to lecture me now, Sabrina." Lillian stopped talking, she took an apple from the fridge and took a bite from it. "I know we aren't that rich, but we can afford a three square meal and we can foot our bills....I know what I am doing, don't tell me what to do" She added and threw the apple to Sabrina. Sabrina caught the apple and took a bite from it.
"You are my best friend, so assist me" Lillian added.
"My lips are sealed." Sabrina held her lips with her two fingers.
Lilian chuckled and walked away, heading to Jerry's house.
After some time of walking, she got to the house and knocked at the almost destroyed door.
If thieves should go into the house, then they wouldn't come out with anything valuable.
The door was opened for her by Aria who looked drenched.
"Good afternoon Aria, where's jerry?" Lillian asked immediately.
"He's inside, please come in" Aria ushered her in.
"Thanks, but what happened to you? Why are you soaking wet?" Lillian asked as she stared at Aria from her head to her toe.
"Oh, that... I was cleaning when you knocked, you know..." Aria trailed off, and then pointed upwards, indicating the roof.
"I'm so sorry" Lillian apologised as if she was the cause. Aria smiled and walked away from the door, allowing her to walk in.
Lillian got in and saw Jerry cleaning the floor with a rag, and squeezing the rag in a bucket.
She dropped the bag on the floor and ran to him. She took the rag from him and knelt on the floor, drying the water - not minding the fact that it was gonna stain her clothes.
"Lilian" Jerry called in surprise.
Lillian flashed him a smile, she continued drying the floor with the rag.
"Stop it." He helped her up and took the rag from her.
"Just let me do it, please" She pleaded.
"No, i won't... Queens don't do such work" Those words said by jerry made her blush.
Jerry left the cleaning for Aria, and he went into the other room with Lillian.
They both sat on the bed.
"What an unexpected visit" He said as he held her palms in his.
"Well I came with good news this time around" Lillian replied.
"Your statement isn't correct, you always come with good news" He said and she blushed again.
"Stop flattering me" She shyly muttered and he laughed.
"I came because i got you a job" She said and his eyes brightened immediately.
"Really?" He asked to be sure he heard well.
Lillian nodded in reply and he pulled her into a tight hug.
"Thank you" The joy he felt could be easily noticed by the tone of his voice.
Lillian disengaged from the hug because he hugged her tight and she couldn't breath. "Don't thank me, please I don't like it" She said, pretending to be angry.
"I am sorry, I'm just so happy" He giggled and she smiled.
"It a big company and your work there is to offload goods from the company bus into the store room, the pay would be enough to do one nice thing" She informed.
"I'm okay with any job, as long as it's a legal job" He happily said.
"I won't want you to do anything illegal" She said as she wrapped her hands around his neck and pulled him into a kiss.
Jerry stood before a big building. Top of the building was boldly written 'QUEEN'S WAREHOUSE'
He smiled and walked inside. On getting in, he was given a shirt to put on. It was the working shirt.
"Take the goods from the truck and take it into the warehouse. Get to work everyone" The man clapped his hands.
Few persons were inside the truck, throwing the bags to the ones that were outside. While the ones outside, would take it into the warehouse.
Although the bag was heavy, Jerry couldn't complain, he needed the money.
"Walk fast!" The man scolded him.
Quickly, Jerry tightened his grip on the bag and walked faster.
He was beginning to sweat and get tired, he hadn't even eaten that morning before going to work, but he had no choice.
*****
The car door was opened for Elena, and she stepped out of the car.
She was dressed in a tight short gown and a nice pair of heels, her silver necklace was sparkling . The diamond ring on her right index finger wasn't left out.
She tucked her hair behind her ear and stared around.
"Ma'am Elena, this is the warehouse." She was informed by one of her bodyguards.
Although her father owned the company, she had never visited it. She was a loner. Ever since her mum passed away, she preferred to stay in her room all day. Her daily routine was to go to school, and come back home.
But today, she just felt like visiting the warehouse and seeing how it runs. Sooner or later, she was gonna do that, as the next CEO - she was the only child, the heir!
She didn't know why her father didn't want to get remarried, it had been four years.
"Do you want me to show you around?" Dora, her assistant asked.
Dora was two years older than Elena, she had been assigned to take care of Elena, to be the sister Elena never had.
"If I didn't come for that, then why am I here?" Elena replied, coldly. One could tell that she wasn't happy at all.
Dora smiled. She had been with Elena for long, and she also understood everything she was going through.
She gave Elena a sunglass and they both walked inside. It was a sunny day.
Walking inside, Elena saw a big truck, then some people taking things from it and keeping it inside the warehouse.
"What are these people doing?" She asked Dora.
"The goods in the truck are the newly bought ones, it should be taken into the warehouse. They're transferring the goods into the warehouse. You've studied business right from when you were a kid, I can't believe you don't know these things" Dora said, gaining a glare from Elena.
"I studied business, I didn't study a warehouse" After Elena spoke those words, there was silence between them, only the voices of the workers could be heard.
Elena felt hot, the weather was so hot that she felt as if it was fire burning her skin.
"Are you okay?" Dora asked, after noticing how uneasy Elena looked.
"Let's get out of here" She turned around and started walking to her car.
But she stopped when she heard something.
"Hey, you won't get your payment if you keep resting." Elena turned around and stared at the person. It was a man talking to a boy. As Elena eyes caught with the face of the boy, she blinked repeatedly.
What a cute boy! 'Hmmmm. He's so cute! But why is he.... Oh, he's one of the workers. Wait, if he's doing this kind of job, it simply means that he isn't rich. How can someone be so cute and not be rich' Elena thought that only cpeople are rich.
Staring keenly at the boy, she didn't realize Dora had been calling her since.
"Elena!!" Dora yelled, this time around it attracted people to look at them - including the workers.
Embarrassed that she was caught staring at a boy, by Dora, she quickly averted her gaze to something else.
They man that was shouting at the boy earlier, walked to meet Elena.
"Ma'am, you are here. It's actually a surprise, I thought you made an oath not to step your feet here" He joked, thinking it would make her laugh, but it didn't.
"Westley, don't you think you are bullying this workers?" Elena suddenly asked.
"Ma'am?"
"Look, the day is sunny and you can't even allow these workers to rest. What are they? A log of wood that wouldn't feel pain on their skin?" Elena's voice sounded with little anger.
"I am under the sun also, it's not the way you are....."
"You chose to be under the sun, because you want to be ordering them around. I get that you are just doing your job, but please if you don't want to get fired then do your work well and treat others like human that they are" She cuts him off, rudely.
"I am sorry, ma'am" Even though he knew he wasn't wrong, he still had to apologize.
"Give them an hour break, now!" She ordered.
Westley quickly did as she said, he knew that if Elena tells her dad to fire him, then he would do that without even questioning her.
"Let's get going" Dora reminded.
Elena wanted to reply, but her eyes met with the cute boy, he was so sweating, and with the way he was waking she knew he wasn't fine..... He was tired!
Jerry was going inside the warehouse to gave a break, when someone walked to meet him.
Looking at her, he could tell she was rich and classy.
"Hey, are you okay?" Elena asked, trying not to sound too concerned. After all he was a stranger she just met.
"Good day ma'am. I am fine, thanks for caring" Jerry gave her a genuine smile.
"I wasn't caring. If something is to happen to you here, then my father would be blamed. So it's better to send you home if you aren't okay" Elena was a girl who didn't like showing how she feels, she didn't want to look weak.
"You still cared. Thanks" He smiled again and walked inside.
His smile was contagious, Elena also smiled.
Such a cute boy!
Elena glanced at the frame in her hand, she kept it back on the table next to her bed.
"You miss her a lot, right....Everything will be fine" Dora assured.
"Her pancake was the most delicious one I have tasted,, mum loved cooking... I just cannot forget about her. Well, I am hungry" Elena held her stomach.
"What do you want to eat? Tell me, let me inform the chef."Dora said.
"Anything" Elena replied.
Dora left the room to go meet the chef. Elena's mind suddenly drifted to the moment when the boy smiled.
She didn't know why, but she just love his smile. Such a contagious smile.
His pink lips was just so tempting. Everything about the guy was.... Amazing.
'I will visit the warehouse tomorrow. The boy is just so cute' She thought to herself.
Dora walked to the room in a hurry. She was panting like someone that just ran a relay race.
"What is making you pant so hard" Elena asked and rolled her eyes.
"Fat.. Father is here" Dora stuttered.
"My dad is here? Oh no. I forgot to dump the drugs I didn't take... You know what, take two tablets from each and throw it away" One thing Elena didn't like was taking drugs, even if she was sick she won't take it. She wasn't feeling so fine, so their personal doctor prescribed some drugs for her, but she didn't take the drugs, and now her dad was back. Surely he must her if she had taken it, and would also want to see some proof.
Dora quickly brought the drugs out of the shelf, she brought two tablets each from them and took it out of the room.
Elena heaved a sigh of relief, she sat upright, waiting for her dad's arrival.
Just as she predicted, he entered her room - without even knocking. He saw her on the bed, her face was unpredictable, she wasn't smiling.
"Welcome, dad" She greeted in a low tone.
Mr Queen noticed something was bordering his daughter, but what was it?
"Lena, are you okay. Do you still have a fever?" He asked in concern. He touched her forehead with the back of his palm.
"I am fine. It's just that. . ." She paused. 'If I should talk about the school issues now, then dad would be troubled, it's best to keep quiet for now' She thought to herself.
When Mr queen saw that Elena stopped talking, he asked, "Did you take your drugs?."
Elena nodded, then she said, "If I didn't take the drugs, then I wouldn't have been this fit and fine."She stood up and went to the shelf to bring the medicine. She showed him.
" Excellent. How was your visit to the company today?" immediately he asked this question, Elena though of that boy, she didn't know any buy her mind again drifted to that boy.
'What is wrong with me' She mentally hit herself.
"It was fabulous. I will visit there more often, to know how the warehouse works. I think I should begin from there, then after that I will move to the main company.
"That's amazing. I hope you learn fast, so you can replace me soon" He said and smiled at her. "I will be in my room resting".
*****
Jerry got home late in the night. He closed early at the warehouse, but he was just exploring the city, after all staying at home would remind him of his misfortune.
"Jerry, you are back? You got us worried" Aria said, immediately she saw him.
"Why were you worried? I am not a baby, Aria. Is there anything to eat, I am hungry" He replied and walked into the house.
"Too bad, you came home late. Lillian was here, she brought some already cooked food and was waiting for you to return, but since it was late she went back home....I was so famished, so I ate the food" Aria explained, angering Jerry.
"You ate what? How could you?"He was loosing his cool.
" Relax, bro. At lease you got paid today, let's use the money to prepare something" Aria rolled her eyes.
Jerry was about to say something, when the 'door' opened. Their mum walked in, she was holding a shopping bag.
Aria and Jerry's eyes widened in shock. Where did she get the money to go shopping?
"What are you staring at?" She asked both of them.
"Mum. Isn't that a shopping bag?" Aria asked.
"Yeah, from a classic supermarket. A customer of mine gifted it to me, he bought lots of things for me" She replied.
"He?" Jerry and Aria chorused, they immediately stared at each other.
She started explaining to them, how the man was looking for gift to buy for his wife as an anniversary gift, and how she made a suggestion. Turned out the woman liked the gift so well and that made the man happy, he then bought some things from the supermarket as an appreciation to her.
"What were you thinking?" She asked them.
"Nothing!" They chorused again.
******
The next day at work, Jerry was getting used to carrying the loads. It wasn't stressful as the first day.
"Hey" Someone called, he immediately recognized the voice. The lady of the other day.
He had gotten to know that she was the boss's daughter, he heard the workers gossiping about it. Almost everyone in the city knows Elena, she was social media famous, but since Jerry didn't have a phone be didn't know her, not until he heard the workers saying it.
"Hi... Ma'am" He greeted.
"You were here yesterday, right" She asked and Jerry nodded in reply.
"Well. My name is Elena Queen, you can just address me by my name. What's yours?" She introduced herself, and was waiting for the boy to do same.
Jerry thought she was trying to create an employee to employer relationship, what he didn't know was that there was something else.
"I am Jerry".
Elena stretched out her hand for a handshake. "Nice to meet you".
Jerry shook hands with her. Her hand was soft.
"Elena, can you let go of my hand" It wasn't a question though, it was a statement. Elena was so lost in whatever she was doing, that she forget her hand was still holding that of Jerry.
"Oops, sorry. So tell me about yourself" She said, smiling.
Jerry's brows furrowed. What is wrong with this lady.
"Excuse me, if I don't work, then I won't get paid. I need to go" He didn't like the way she was trying to get close to him.
"Westley!" Elena called, and Westley walked to meet her.
"I will like to discuss something with him, do you mind him taking a break" She said, pointing at Jerry.
"Okay" Westley replied and walked away. After all, he didn't own the company.
"That's sorted out" She smiled at Jerry and held his wrist, dragging him with her as she walked to her car.
Dora was quiet the whole time, she understood everything, she understood that Elena had fallen in love with this boy. 'He isn't up to her standard, she shouldn't be throwing herself at him. Someone like him would like to take advantage of her.. I have to advice her' She thought as she stared at them.
"Why did you bring me here?" Jerry asked. He was sitting in her car. Never did he thought he would enter that kind of car in his lifetime. It was an expensive car.
"Well, the thing is that my dad asked me to bring someone with me to a business party. I have no one, so I thought I could use your help"She started.
"My help? What for?" Jerry asked.
"Will you be my boyfriend?" It was as if she just released the bombshell.
Jerry was shocked. Shock was an understatement.
"Look, it's just for a night. You will attend a dinner party with me.... I will pay you ten thousand dollars, please just accept" She pouted, if it was some other boys they will even follow her without the money, but Jerry wasn't interested in her.
Deep down, Elena had plans. She had a selfish motive.
Jerry thought of how Lilian would feel if he tells her about it, although Elena said it was just for a night, Lilian wouldn't still agree, she didn't want to share Jerry. He wanted to quickly declined the offer, but then he remembered the money Elena mentioned.... 10,000 dollars! It would go a long way for him and his family.
What should he do?
