Chapter 1 Gendar night

I never liked going to parties or anywhere else but tonight an exception was made by my best friend; Reene on my behalf.

Reene pulled me through the crowded field with her legendary strength, just in case I decided to run off. I, unlike Reene imagination of me taking off was actually enjoying myself; I get to see the entire premium gist Reene always gave to me for myself.

We arrived at our destination; the make shift bar. We had already been here thrice and we still haven't tried quarter of the drinks made available. The variety of unrecognizable liquid lined up on the table would have been troubling to me but i was here to unwind and not be the perfect student i acted as. They said werewolves were immune to intoxication but that didn't seem to be the case at this party, everyone including Reene were swaying on their feet's, I reached towards her to keep her steady for the rest of the party.

It was Gendar night, the only night in a year when all six packs in the region came together to celebrate their beginning and peace treaties. Only adults pack members have access to the party, and I had just turned eighteen a few months unlike Reene who was a year older than I am.

Most werewolves regarded Gendar as an opportunity to know everyone better, a time to get to know each other without the fear of being stabbed in the back. But for me, Gendar didn't really hold anything special aside from the fables I have heard from Reene and my siblings who met their mate here.

Reene had downed another glass of dark liquid after I took my eyes off for one minute, she tilted her head to her back, got back up and offered me a shy smile, "Look over there Emily, those guys are cute. Shouldn't we go talk to them?"

I glanced over her shoulders, scanning through the sea of people in an attempt to guess which one out of all the fine men out here tonight she was referring to. I finally saw who she was referring to; I rolled my eyes upon clearer realization on who she saw- her mate, Derrick.

I frowned in unabashed single hood, "I don't think he has seen you yet. You should go to him instead of making his stand there gaining the attention of the women from other packs." Her mate set off for pack mission weeks ago and I bet Reene could sense him through her drunkenness and was just waiting for him to make the move.

Reene pouted and once again without any warning pulled me with her Hercules given strength, Reene stopped swaying and put on a look of confidence as she walked towards Derrick to sway the girls around him away and it worked when they all saw Derrick's face blossom with a smile upon seeing her, they kissed tongue tied and I fought the urge to not raise a flag to announce my presence.

"Hi Walker," Derrick pulled out of the kiss and finally acknowledged me, his hand still holding Reene in a tight embrace. "It's strange seeing you in a place like this."

I rolled my eyes, like he should be here when he is supposed to be off on a mission. Derrick, Reene and I have been friends since we were just pups, for some strange reason they always knew they were soul mates and always hanged around each other tightly and when Reene turned eighteen their dream came true. It feels like it was just yesterday when Reene balled her eyes out nervously because she was scared they weren't going to be together.

I wasn't much of a talker and my friends knew it so it was not really a surprise when I passed a smile off as a reply. Derrick's presence worsened Reene's drunken behavior because she started giggling for no reason like an empty-head, I watched him whisper jokes that I couldn't relate to and giggle about.

I stood there like a salted fish, waiting for my time to join in on the jokes and suddenly the bustling crowd grew quiet. My eyes travelled through the crowd and noticed everyone was looking in one direction, and a dozen men and women who one could pick out from the crowd because of how good looking and neat they all were now stood. They all wore black of different shades with silver buttons decked on their shirts, and this was what got everyone quiet- the silver pack had arrived at the party.

The silver pack had been quiet for three years now; they were not seen or heard of by anyone, their territory completely sealed off. Rumor had it that their Luna passed away and the pack went into chaos because their Alpha became redrawn but as stated, just a rumor.

A familiar voice from across the room bellowed loudly, a deliberate effort to draw attention and place every one at ease. "I wasn't expecting you to come this year."

I didn't need to stand on my toes to see who spoke like the other wolves around me did, unlike them I already knew it was Alpha Alvin of the Dark creed pack; my pack, Reene's father. I lost my mother during a pack war and while my father was busy wallowing in self-loath, his best friend had taken me in and raised me like his own.

A man walked out from the silver pack team and shaked hands with Alpha Alvin, he was most likely the infamous Alpha of the silver pack but i couldn't see his face and only had views to his back.

Still occupied in my thoughts, the party resumed like it did not just stop in a chokehold and I had somehow gotten to the other side of the party where people were less and discussions took place about the silver pack. Apparently it wasn't just a rumor that the Luna of the silver pack died but nobody knew exactly what happened except members of the silver pack.

I couldn't begin to imagine how he felt about her demise, I had witnessed my father's behavior and how he almost fell into a slump. A chill swept over me and as I turned around I ran into a man, the chill I was currently feeling radiated from him, I quickly turned around to apologize to the man I had bumped into; sweat ran down my back as I suddenly began to perspire under the cool night as I realized who I had disrupted.

A member of the silver pack, the silver badge resting abreast the jacket was blinding but it couldn't over shadow the aura oozing from the man in front of me. I moved away from him and my eyes caught the man behind him who was also from the silver pack but their badge looked entirely different. The man I bumped into was either their Alpha or Beta, regardless of who it was I didn't want my powerless self to be in the same proximity with them.

"I'm so sorry" I apologized as I kept moving further away from him, the further I moved the more his features came into view. I know I said the badge was blinding but his face and full body was better, his body hidden inside the oversized jacket didn't have a word in my vocabulary to describe it. His crystal clear eyes locked on my blue orbs, and, I inhaled sharply at the sight of his face.

I couldn't move and my stomach churned repeatedly, the shock almost knocking me to the ground. The world swayed and so did my heart, as my blood flowed in the opposite direction. What is happening to my body? I couldn't think or move my eyes away from him, every single nerve that contracted to form the crease between his eyebrows were within eye sight.

A few people from nearby stopped to look at us curious about what was going on, if asked I wouldn't say anything 'because I did not know!

The man took steps towards me or I took steps towards him, as the distance between us closed and my breath became labored, every step between us looked like mortal enemies to me. When the distance between us eventually closed as he stood before me, he grabbed my face as if unable to control his movements.

The moment his cold hands touched my face, I felt warmth instead of the initial cold radiating off him towards me. His warmth crawled from my face to my toes and I found myself leaning in for more.

He pulled me into his arm and inhaled my skin and hair to take in my scent, his movements feral. I did not want to pull away and my brain wasn't sending any signal to move away. After a few minutes, he pulled away and his crystal clear eyes were now hazed and in shock. There was a new statement behind them besides being cold, possession. His arms keeping my body tightly pressed to his roamed my body in a way that had to mean one thing,

That I was His.

Chapter 2 whatever this is

The sound of whispers from my surroundings woke me up from my daze, my brain awakened and I pulled out from his embrace, it turned out to be harder than I thought. It was at this moment that I realized it and he realized it too because the moment I started struggling he pushed me away, I was confused as to how I kept standing on my feet.

I looked at him, his once clear eyes that I admired wholeheartedly at first sight were no longer hazed and in shock instead it held something else; anger. I was strangely concerned as to whether this anger was directed at me or someone else.

Someone pushed their way through the crowd which surrounded this man I was yet to identify and me. Reene's father, Alpha Alvin and my father; the beta of dark creed pack came forward along with the guests from silver pack and officials from other packs.

My father spoke first, his face held no emotion unless his creased eyebrows counted as a show of his disappointment in my display, "What happened here, Alpha Asher?" Alpha? I looked at the man beside me and wished to melt into the ground. I was acting all out for no reason on my first party with an Alpha? One I should be avoiding??

Alpha Asher"s face that did not look good became even worse after hearing my father's question. What did my father expect him to say? That I was the new mate he wasn't happy about? Or how he most likely wanted to turn back time to the moment before he decided to come here? I bet my father would understand how he felt about getting a new mate while still grieving.

Asher didn"t reply to my father and we all stood there in silence with every ones attention being on us, while in a stale mate, a pair of hands yanked me from my position and pulled me along. I let out a small scream in surprise as I stagger; following the direction I was being pulled towards.

It was my big brother or rather Reene's brother, Jasper whose face had always held his emotions on it and right now it showed anger and a hint of fear that if I did not look closely I wouldn't see it. But before Jasper could take me far, a growl came from behind me and I was taken away from Jasper's hand.

It was from Asher, he stood between me and Jasper, shielding me from Jasper's reach and Asher's hand against mine kept sending light currents down my arm making me shiver. Jasper spared me a glance, his eyes unclear and it made me feel like I betrayed him, a betrayal I clearly was not responsible for.

"Let go of Emily, you son a bitch." Jasper charged at Asher, his entire body advancing with full force. However, before he could get to him, Derrick and a couple others rushed to hold him down before a fight between Alphas started.

"Stop it," Alpha Alvin said calmly, I didn't know when he arrived but he seemed well informed, he nodded at Asher. "Take him down, there will be no fighting tonight," Derrick and a dozen of my pack members took the struggling Jasper towards the pack house. I stared in the direction they left with, perhaps hoping for something to happen. The room resumed its chatter and people kept focusing on the matter after all the catalysts of tonight's event where still standing still.

Alpha Alvin turned towards Asher, "we should have a talk," and looked at my father, "And you too, Lukas." Asher let go of my hand and left me to his pack member to watch over like some kid.

He, Alpha Alvin and my father walked away to discuss only God knows what and I stood there waiting for them. Everyone else had somewhat lost interest in whatever it in that was going on with me and went back to minding their own business.

My father looked at me every now and then while they were conversing with his brows furrowed, I watched their every move and saw my dad nodding in agreement to whatever Alpha Alvin said to him.

Their conversation came to an end and Asher and my dad came back to me while Renee;s dad stood behind, my dad placed a hand on my shoulder, "You'll be fine in due time."

I was confused. I'll be fine in due time? What was about to happen now that I will be totally okay with later? While in my state of confusion, Asher had walked back to my side.

Alpha Asher muttered something under his breath, and his pack members nodded at him and began to move towards the exit, Asher grabbed me tightly and I could swear on anything that blood wasn't flowing through my arm any more as he pulled me towards the exist with him.

"Let me go." My voice shaky as neither did my father or Alpha Alvin made a move to stop him. I was resisting but it wasn't obvious as Asher was clearly stronger than me. I looked around me desperately for someone to help me but no one was looking this way although they could all hear me.

Renee. I searched for her while struggling to break free from his hold. Where was she? She was always missing when I needed her, for once I wanted this time to be different.

"We need to leave..." Asher said and continued to force me over to the makeshift packing lot where a black SUV pulled up waiting for him.

"I want to say goodbye to my family first! ...let me go!" I yelled at the stop of my voice, forcefully twisting my arm out of his grip only for his to take hold of both arms with ease, I was scared and didn't want to leave with a man I met forty minutes ago in the name of him being my mate.

My only option was to get physical with him, I spun around so fast and gave him a kick in the face and this resulted in me cursing as I felt extreme pain in my left leg, it was probably fractured. While my leg suffered the heavy and intending blow, his face was unscratched and so was the hand in which he used to block it.

I was unable to struggle any further with my leg in such pain, Asher stepped into my personal circle, and "I hope you will never try that again." I was shoved into the van and Asher climbed in after me, slamming the door shut and checking if the one on my side was locked.

"Drive," Asher glanced at me before commanding his subordinate sitting at the driver's seat. The car was filled with strangers who sat in silence but all had their eyes on me, watching me more ferociously than Asher did.

I held my swollen ankle and sobbed quietly on my seat, everything was happening too fast that I couldn't comprehend the speed at which it was going and my tears rolled down faster, probably at the same speed in which the car plunged into darkness. I could feel Asher attempting to drill a hole into my head in the dark; I wished him good luck because I was a step ahead of him.

I had fallen asleep on our way back to the silver pack territory and even when the car came to a halt I did not awaken to highlight from it. I was exhausted and drained to the point I couldn't afford to move and my swollen leg was not helping issues.

My eyes were closed hence my hearing was more heightened and the car door on my side opened and I felt some one's arm lift me up from the car seat, it felt foreign and the contact pricked my skin and was largely uncomfortable.

Five steps were yet to be taken when a ferocious growl erupted nearby and the arms holding me weakened responsively.

"Relax Ash, I was just getting her out of the car," a feminine voice came from the one holding me, "Here you go, no need to get defensive."

I was exchanged like a sack of potato and the new arm felt comfortable and warm, and as I snuggled closer, I perceived pine wood and knew it was Asher immediately. My palpitating heart relaxed as I found the perfect position in his arm.

His strides were slow and intentional like he did not want to wake me up and before I could doze off from comfort. I was placed on a bed and the arm I so much enjoyed was gone. A blanket that smelt like Asher was placed over me and I adjusted a bit for comfort, Asher's voice could be heard speaking to someone, "George, send for Ari and ask her to spend the night in this room, no one else but Ari. Got it? I am going to ask Ray to explain tonight's events more clearly to me."

George, in question spoke softly, "Yes Alpha but..." their voice drifted out of my hearing range and having nothing to listen to anymore, I opened my eyes. There was nothing to adjust to as the room was plunged in darkness; I blinked a couple times before succumbing to the wave of sleep that hovered above my head.

Chapter 3 better looking during the day

I woke up from the sensation I felt around my face, like something was fixated on me. Hot breaths fanned my forehead and I groggily opened my eyes and saw a pair of eyes fixated on me with branches from somewhere behind its eyes rubbing my neck, a feeling of panic arose inside me as I jumped up with a start and whatever was in front of me vanished into thin air and appeared at the other side of the bed.

Luckily it was just a girl with long brown hair smiling at me intently, "nice reflex...you could protect yourself with such speed so Asher doesn't have to think of making me guard you."

I looked at her blankly because I was yet to register my surroundings until I heard her say the name; Asher. She further introduced herself, "I am Ari ...Arizona. Alpha Asher's younger sister and vice-captain of his squad."

I nodded at her, neither did I introduce myself or greet her. If she was in this room then she knew who I was and what I suddenly identified as, her brother's mate. I looked around me as I took in the surroundings I slept in last night as it was too dark to see. The room was large, with a grey theme and white furniture. The bed I laid on currently was most likely king sized with adequate pillow for cushioning.

Glancing around the room, I noticed how big the window looked and realized that it may have been the reason why Ari was in here, staring at me like a hawk. Asher most likely felt that I wouldn't be here when everyone woke up.

Ari still stood at the foot of the bed with arms crossed watching my every move, I eyed her carefully. She was a splitting image of Asher, they could be mistaken as twins and that's where the similarities ended. Their height difference was too much, Ari looked tough with all the black she had on but the clothes could not hide her stature at all.

She headed for the door, "I need to let Asher know you are awake, don't go anywhere."

Before leaving, she turned to me, "there are clothes on the couch over there so take a bath, and hopefully they are your size." Ari offered a much simpler smile before leaving the room.

After she left, I crawled out from the comfort of the bed and placed my feet on the floor, the cold floor penetrated through my socks giving me a wakeup call from the relaxing mood, reminding me clearly where I was.

When I got to the bathroom, I threw the dress I had on towards the mirror without bothering to take a look at it because I already knew how horrible I looked in the morning. Once my dress was off I laid in the bathtub to soak before scrubbing off last night's business off my body but not my head.

The dark skin around my ankle was quite obvious through the bubbly water, and I remembered clearly how I got it due to my heroic attempt of leaving Asher's arm. Luckily that was the only place that was bruised up although I had struggled like my life depended on it.

I shook off the thought s of last night and welcomed those of today. What was I going to do, how was I going to act? All my life I always had someone around me to advice and protect me or I considered the pros and con before doing anything. This time, I wasn't even given the chance to consider and now that I did it, there were clearly no pros to think of.

When I was out of the bath, I dried off quickly and took the clothes Ari had laid on the couch for me. The underwear was a tad too little so I opted for the bra I had thrown aside before for comfort 'because wearing Ari's own would to discomfort. The sweat pant and shirt she kept aside were my size and I added a sweater just in case things got way colder than it already was.

Ari was leaning on the wall outside the door when I emerged from the room, when she saw me she sized me properly before giving an approving nod, "This outfit looked like they were tailor made for you, I wish I could say the same for myself."

I laughed lightly; glad to know Ari's personality was nothing like her tough outlook.

I didn't get to say my piece before she continued,"I spoke to Ash and he said you could come find him in his study although he may not be on seat right now because he had somewhere to visit, so you can wait for him there."

I nodded, "where is his study?" I tried to hide the nervousness in my voice as I thought about seeing Asher again.

"I will take you there," Ari said while heading out: "I also need to take permission to swap with Nicki on his orders not to leave your side after all I have things to do too"

I looked at with eyes wide open, she had said it before in the room but I did not pay much attention to it, I think I heard him say it last night too to someone.

"I am too old for a baby sitter" not especially when the babysitter is smaller than me and is a relative of the man I want to not have anything to do with.

Ari rolled her eyes at my speech and laughed dryly, "My brother clearly doesn't share than opinion with you as I am standing right here telling you all these." She arched one of her brows, but I laughed slightly as I didn't know what to say.

A clamor or rather a whisper for help travelled through the walls to my ears and this made me stopped in my track, Ari didn't hear it or was pretending not to as she kept walking and I had to speed up to catch up with her.

"Did you hear that?" I said to her as we walked further down the hallway.

She glanced at me through the side of her eyes before looking forward; "Hear what?" before I could reply we took a turn into a room that had a dozen pack members in it and my response got drowned in timidity.

A few of them looked at us and resumed their activities while the rest kept looking at me until we took another turn out of the room. It was uncomfortable as I wasn't really a people person in my pack and I was yet to familiarize myself with this place and the wolves here.

When we exited the room, I had already forgotten about the words I wanted to ask Ari, and she likewise did not talk about it.

Ari led me towards a closed double door room and she walked in without knocking as if it was her turf and not her brother's. My heart began to beat faster on thoughts of seeing Asher, was it me or was it my wolf being excited, I could not tell.

A girl clothed in green sat on the biggest desk that obviously belongs to Asher swinging her legs, upon seeing us or me; she frowned before looking back at Ari.

She got down from the desk, "Asher isn't here right now.." she looked at me once again, "I bet he'll be too busy to attend to whatever it is you both came here for since he has to attend to me."

Ari rolled her eyes and muttered under her breath to me, "Here we go again."

Ari stomped her foot lightly and put her hands in her pants pocket, "Oh yeah? Well, as you already know, I don't show up here without a good reason and this time he summoned me to bring his mate to him ...Louise."

I stood behind Ari awkwardly as both women exchanged words until Louise smirked and walked back to the desk. Ari took me to an empty seat and sat with me.

Ari patted me," I'll be here until my brother comes so don't worry about her." Louise kept glancing at our direction and for some reason Ari thought it was bothering me and it actually was but I decided to ignore her.

We waited outside for almost ten minutes and any time I heard foot step from outside, my heart starts racing thinking it was Asher but the sound gets further away each time. Finally, heavy footsteps could be heard outside and it finally stopped in front of the door.

My heart started beating so fast that I thought it could burst at any given moment; I heard a click from the door as it was pushed open. His scent blowing in with each step he took and I inhaled sharply to take every inch of it, I could feel the scent deeply like he was right in front of me.

My gaze fell on his figure and the contrast between day and night was clear, I couldn't believe I fought not to be with this man. He wore a prim yet tight grey shirt and I could see his bulging muscles begging to be free, his pants were black but free, how I wished they were tight so that I could see what he had underneath.

While I was busy admiring what my dead eyes failed to be hold during the day, Ari had walked past me and on her way out grabbed Louise who was already making her way towards him.

He stood there looking at me while I observed him, when our eyes met he walked towards me and called out to me in his husky voice, "Skywalker." And just like that, my knees gave way.
