"Amber you should be careful, entering another pack's territory means instant death" Aunt Kelly would always tell me.

After our pack was attacked seven years ago, Aunt Kelly and I have been living as rogues.

My dad was the beta of our pack and he died when I was only five during a war.

My mum and brother protected me while Aunt Kelly and I fled when our pack was raided. They both promised to come look for us when everything was over, but little did I know that it was the last time I was going to see them.

I crouched, hiding between the grass, while aiming at the rabbit who was chewing on a leaf, without a care in the world.

My stomach grumbled thinking of all the dishes we could make from this.

Living as a lone wolf was difficult, but Aunt Kelly always tried her best to make it adventurous and fun.

We stayed in a small cottage which was exposed to different climates, with less food to eat.

Although sometimes it was hard to keep on living like this but my goal kept me moving, remembering how I lost everything in just a day made me more determined to avenge all the lives that were lost.

My mouth watered as I stared at the rabbit waiting for the perfect time to pounce on it.

Taking little steps forward, I mistakenly stepped on a broken branch.

The rabbit's ears perked up sensing he was in danger, it hopped away, realizing that I was going to lose my lunch, I reacted immediately.

Standing from my crouching position, I chased the rabbit trying not to let it out of sight.

I underestimated my opponent, the little creature was really fast and everytime I decided to catch it, I always seemed to miss.

I kept on running after, chanting the same words in my head to keep me determined.

'Rabbit stew'

It was as though I had been running for a while, suddenly the rabbit stopped, and without hesitation, I jumped on it bringing my hands forward to hold it.

'I caught it'

Taking a deep breath, I laid on the moist ground with the rabbit still in my hands, as I tried to catch my breath.

"For making me run after you, I am going to eat you" I said to the rabbit who wriggled in my hands.

Well, I was planning to eat it right from the first time I saw it, you can call it food at first sight.

Laughing at my silly thoughts, I sat up on the grass and suddenly realized where I was.

I was in another pack's territory.

I quickly got up and hoped they had not sensed that someone had trespassed their territory because I was going to have the punishment of a rogue who trespassed a pack's territory which was death.

I was about to make a run for it, when a wolf suddenly appeared in front of me.

Shit.. busted....

I turned around and noticed three more wolves were closing in on me.

What a turn of events.

I was just chasing my prey and now I was their prey.

"I am not a threat, how about you just let me go" I smiled at the wolves who had encircled me, but they growled back at me.

The ferocious look in their eyes said it all, they will only let me leave here when I am dead.

"Your stew will have to wait" I said to the little creature, who snorted in response.

Pulling my jacket, I tied the rabbit to my back.

I could not lose the rabbit when I kept on craving for rabbit stew.

I have been training for years because of my goal, my plan was to kill the alpha of the pack who had attacked my pack.

I have been training everyday just to be able to kill an Alpha, and fighting off some wolves would not be hard for me when I have fought many rogues over the years of staying as a lone wolf.

Taking out two knives from my boot, I took a fighting stance.

I have always kept my hunting knife with me, because living in the woods no one knows what might happen.

I know that right now you might be wondering why I don't shift to fight the wolves, but shifting to fight them would be troublesome. Firstly, my dinner is going to flee and secondly, I will have to rip my clothes when I don't even have much clothes at home to begin with.

Surprisingly, the little rabbit did not wriggle or try to escape, it just stayed still like a behaved kitten, which made me less worried about losing my dinner.

Just as one of the wolves was about to pounce on me, I slid to the left and kicked it with my heel before doing a three sixty on the floor, using the knife in my hand to slit his knee, making it hard to get up.

Realizing that one of their wolves was down, the three wolves attacked me at the same time.

I smirked 'let's dance'

Jumping and spinning upward, I stood on their back and with a back flip I landed on the ground, now I was not in the middle giving me a better chance of fighting them off.

The second wolf lunged at me and I sidestepped the attack with lightning speed.

My small physique always gives me an advantage in fights, I was swift and quick on my toes.

I continued trying to fight them off and at the same time making sure I didn't kill them, although it would take a long time for them to recover because the knives were coated with wolfsbane.

There were two down and one more to go, I hoped that I would be able to leave here before dawn, I did not want to make Aunt Kelly worry.

Sensing the plight of his comrades, the third wolf launched itself at me.

His claws were just a breath away from my skin.

I stepped back, holding the knife. I aimed it at the wolf and it hit his back.

He growled, clearly it was mad and was fed up with me.

I ran towards a tree, and he ran after me. Climbing the tree, I jumped backward, landing on the ground and shoving my knife deep into his side, dragging it upward, and blood splattered.

I heaved a sigh of relief that it was over.

I was about to retrieve my knives from the wolf who was still on the floor, not because of the cut but because of the wolfsbane.

Touching the hilt of the knife and trying to pull it out from the wolf's body, I felt all the hair in my body stand.

There was a menacing presence behind me, and the person had a deadly aura.

There was something strange about the presence and I could feel it.

Turning around slowly, I raised my head and it seemed the wolves I had fought had mindlinked for backup, and some of the pack warriors were here, four of them were in their wolf form while the rest had not shifted.

But what caught my attention was the man in the middle, his presence demanded attention and as wide as the forest, it became really suffocating to stand in front of him.

There was no doubt that this was the alpha of the pack.

His brown eyes shifted to the wolves writhing in pain on the ground and then they rested on me.

Why does it feel like the temperature in the forest just became more cold, was it because of his cold demeanour.

His piercing gaze was enough for me to writhe in fear.

I have always trained myself to be able to avenge my pack but standing in front of this alpha made me realize that I was not ready and I don't think I ever would be.

I tried not to let his presence intimidate me.

I made a quick observation, calculating what I was going to do next.

I could not make a run for it, because I was sure he would be able to catch up with me in minutes.

My only decision was to shift and fight.

Removing the rabbit from my back, I did not care if I was going to rip out my clothes or lose my dinner.

I did not want Aunt Kelly to worry and I was scared that if I didn't go back to her she wouldn't have anybody to protect her. She was old and too weak to fight.

I prayed silently that I would be able to go back, but I knew deep down that this was going to be my burial ground.

I could feel my bones breaking and my fur sprouting out from my skin.

I howled as I shifted, as every bone rearranged back, and instead of being a human, my white wolf stood elegantly.

I needed to make the first attack and run.

I lunged forward at their alpha, aiming for his face , but in a swift movement, my wolf was pressed against a tree.

He held me by my neck, pushing me against the tree.

I clawed at his hands which were around my neck but he did not flinch, his unwavering gaze was on me.

It was so hard to breathe not because of his hands which held my neck, but it was his intimidating presence.

"Alpha Kai" I heard someone say his name, I did not even have a chance to process who he was before he snapped my neck.

The last thing I saw before I blacked out was the little rabbit who was a few feet away from me.

I was sure it would be laughing at me right now.

From hunting my prey to being the prey.

The floor was cold and hard, and my body was sore, it was as though I had been pricked with several needles.

I did not die.

That was the first thought that ran through my head.

I looked around the dark room, the pungent smell of blood filled the room, it was no doubt that I was in a cell.

If I was in a cell, it means I was captured, but by whom.

Trying to recall everything that happened, I suddenly remembered his name.

Alpha Kai.

His name alone brought people to their knees.

He was the alpha of the Crescent pack, everyone knew that the crescent pack holds a lot of power, they were the most feared pack having six Alphas.

That's right, Alpha Kai has five brothers, that is one of the reasons the pack was feared.

There was once a rumour that Alpha Kai had killed his mate which made people fear him more.

Soulmates were like your other half, someone who completes you, but he killed his mate which proved how ruthless he was.

It still surprises me that he kept me alive.

Just thinking about being in the same pack as the six most powerful alphas, gave me the jitters.

I curled myself into a ball at the corner of the cell, as I shivered wondering what would become of me.

I suddenly remembered Aunt Kelly, I was scared for her safety, and I knew she would be worried.

I tried mindlinking her, but I could reach.

I don't know how long I have been here, but the smell of the room made me nauseous.

I tried to fall asleep, but it seemed impossible, the fear of being captured and not knowing when I was going to die overwhelmed me.

I leaned against the wall and sighed deeply, suddenly I heard footsteps walking towards my cell.

Was it time for my execution?

Everyone knows that Alpha Kai detests rogues, so the fact he did not kill me in the forest means that he was going to kill me soon.

Curling further into the dark corner of the cell, I shut my eyes, trying to even my breathing.

"Amber"

Hearing my name I quickly looked up and saw two silhouettes fumbling with the cell lock.

The voice was so familiar, and I tried to make out the two people in the dark

The cell door finally opened and someone ran to me pulling me into a hug.

"Amber" I heard my name again and I realized who was hugging me.

"Mum," I said, not even believing my own words.

"It's me Amber" her hands were wrapped around me and I heard her son

I could feel the tears in my eyes threatening to fall

"Is it really you"

She pulled me away from the hug, and touched my face.

"Yes Amber, it's your mother"

Confirming the words from her, I allowed the tears, flow freely from my eyes.

"I thought you died"

She shakes her head "No, let's get you out of here"

I nodded and she raised me up, leading me out of the cell.

I still found it hard to believe that she was really here. I had lived eight years of my life thinking she had died.

I stepped outside as the bright light blinded me.

I closed my eyes and breathed deeply, it was nice to inhale fresh air.

We got outside and a guy approached us, he was wearing a denim Jean jacket and black trousers, his blonde hair was glittering in the sun, which fit his brown eyes.

"Is she your daughter?" he asked mum, his scrutinizing gaze on me.

"Yes, meet my daughter Amber, Amber meet your step brother Kayden"

Stepbrother...

He smiled at me "nice to meet you Amber"

Ignoring his outstretched hands I turned to my mother "you are married"

I don't know why I felt angry hearing this.

"Yes, and I promise, I am going to explain everything to you" she turned to my supposed step brother.

" please take her home, I need to speak with Alford"

"This way Amber '' he said gesturing towards a black car that was just some feet away from us.

I was still holding mum, reluctant to let her go, like she was going to disappear and everything was going to be a figment of my imagination.

Although I was angry that she had remarried and even had her own family I still missed her.

She kissed my forehead "I will come home soon"

'Home'

It's been a while since I heard that.

"She is your sister Kayden, don't try anything stupid" mum said before leaving.

I stood there staring at her back as she walked away.

I suddenly felt a hand on mine. I turned to look at Kayden who smiled at me.

"You need to change" he told me and I only nodded as he led me into the car and drove off.

I kept on scrapping my fingernails. I usually do that when I am nervous.

Knowing that my mum has been alive all this while and never looked for me made me angry. She had even found a new family while I was still living in the past, thinking she was dead and planning to have my revenge for our pack's demise.

"Are you always this cold or you just hate the fact that you have a brother"

Remembering I had left his hand hanging when we were both introduced made me feel really bad about it.

"No, it's just really hard to process that my mum is married"

"You better get used to it soon" he replied "you know, when Caren said she had a daughter, I never expected her to be this pretty"

I turned to him "are you trying to flatter me"

He took his eyes off the road "am I bad at it"

"It's kind of boring" I said and he suddenly stopped the car.

"Why did you stop?" I asked as he unlocked his seatbelt and turned to me.

He leaned closer to me

"What are you doing" my voice was low

"shhhhhhh, there is something in your face" he leaned closer, our faces just a few inches apart, his hand came to my cheeks, wiping something off, then his brown eyes met mine.

I could feel my face heat up, and my heart beat increased.

"You have such beautiful eyes" he whispered and it sounded seductive, making my face hotter

He smiled and moved away from me, while I tried to catch my breath.

"Here I thought my ability was getting rusty" he winked at me.

Realising he was teasing me, I glared at him, as I tried to stabilise my heartbeat.

He laughed seeing my reaction before starting the engines.

"It seems my charm works on you too"

"Don't get ahead of yourself, I was just startled"

"Whatever you say wildcat"

"Wildcat" I asked him with my brows raised.

"You are cute but fierce, I heard you almost killed three of our pack warriors"

"I did not almost kill them, I just gave them a little cut"

He gave me the 'are you serious' look and I smiled sheepishly "but they are alive, aren't they?"

"So you accept the name"

"What name"

"Wild cat"

"Don't you dare call me that"

"I don't know your real name, so I will stick to wildcat" he winked at me.

"You know my name, it's A...."

He suddenly switched on the music, it was really loud as it blared from the speakers making my voice barely audible.

I glared at him and he smiled, singing along with the music playing from the speakers.

I realized how I wasn't feeling nervous anymore, I was even feeling comfortable sitting in the same car with Kayden as though we had known each other for a while now.

I smiled, realizing how I had forgotten everything that was bothering me when we talked.

After some minutes of driving, the car suddenly stopped and so did the music.

"We are home"

Home.... Home was wherever your family was, could I really call this place home.

The door suddenly opened and I realized that I was lost in thought and I had not noticed when Kayden had left the car.

He was standing, holding the car door.

"Don't tell me you want me to carry you, I would not mind" he winked at me.

I just rolled my eyes stepping out of the car.

Alighting the car, I was met with an astonishing view.

"Is this where you live"

He nodded "and you are going to be staying here.

I stood in front of the house not knowing what was awaiting inside.

The house was huge, it looked more of a castle than a house, I was still amazed by how beautiful it was.

"Come on in," he said, walking towards the entrance of the house.

I stopped admiring the house as I followed him.

He stopped at the door, as it opened and we were greeted by a girl, wearing a maid uniform.

She bowed to him "welcome Al...."

"Where is Preston?" Kayden asked, cutting her short.

"He is yet to return" she replied

"This is Amber, Caren's daughter, please show her to her room"

She bowed at him in response

Kayden turned to me "freshen up and come down, I will introduce you to the boys"

"Boys? Do you mean your brothers"

He nodded "I am sure you will get along with them"

"If they are like you then it's impossible"

"Just admit it, you like me"

"In your dreams" I replied as I walked away, with the maid leading me.

"See you soon wildcat" I heard him say after me.

I was led through the stairs, the interior of the house was so huge that it could be mistaken for a castle.

We got to the second floor and she led me further down the hallways, stopping at a brown door.

"If you need help with anything, I will be happy to help"

"Thank you" I replied and she bowed before leaving.

I opened the room and I was met with an amazing view.

Just a few minutes ago I was in a cell that reeked of blood, now I was standing in a room that was fit for royalties.

I immediately ran to the bed and jumped on it, loving how comfy and bouncy it felt.

Realizing that I stink and I was going to stain the white coloured sheets, I immediately left the bed.

Looking around the room, I noticed it had a kind of manly vibe, and weirdly enough I love it.

The bed was at the side of the room, with the walnut wood bedside table and the warm glowing lamp which was on it, there was a couch at the far end of the room.

The beige and white coloured room gave me a warm feeling.

Seeing the door at the other end of the room, I walked towards it.

I opened the door slowly as I peeped into it, it was a large bathroom.

Living in the woods, I could only bath at the river and when wolves shift back to their human form, they end up completely naked, so it was not unusual to find clothes on trees in the woods.

That was how I lived without the luxury of what I was seeing right now.

I was itching to take a bath, stripping off my clothes, I entered the bathtub which I had filled with water.

I scrubbed off the dirt from my skin, loving the feel of the water.

Few minutes after bathing, I saw a white towel, taking it from the counter and I wrapped it on my body.

Just as I stepped into the room, I realized that I did not have any clothes with me.

I ran my hands through my wet hair, deciding to look for the girl Kayden had introduced me to earlier.

I walked out of the room, looking down the hallways, I wondered how I was going to find her, the house was huge and I was only in my towel.

I hope no one sees me like this, it would be really awkward.

I walked silently down the hallways. I was regretting coming out of my room with each step I took.

I stopped in my tracks realizing that this was a stupid idea, Kayden said he had brothers, and I don't want to bump into any of them when I have nothing on.

I was about to go back, when someone grabbed my wrist making me turn to face the person.

I was startled to see a very pissed guy, glaring at me in disgust.

"What are you doing here" he growled

I stepped back surprised at his tone, but his hands were still on my wrist.

He had an intimidating aura that made me shiver.

We both heard the sound of a door being opened and he immediately dragged me away leading me into a room.

I tried to struggle out of his iron clad grip, but it was impossible and I was sure it was going to leave a bruise.

He closed the door behind him and turned to me.

"You are hurting me" I told him as I still struggled to break from his grip.

"Did Kayden bring you here?" he asked, ignoring what I had just said.

I nodded in response and it only seemed to piss him more.

"I know you have an ulterior motive, just because Kayden sleeps with you doesn't mean you have the right to walk around the house, you are his whore and you should know your place"

Whore....

Feeling really annoyed I wanted to kick him in between his legs, but my towel restricted my movement, so instead, I bit hard on his hand making him hiss as he let go of my wrist.

I glared at him, ignoring my throbbing wrist.

"I am not a whore, and I don't know who the hell you are, but you should know your place" I growled back at him.

He did not seem to like my tone and was about to say something but I interrupted him.

"My name is Amber and Kayden is my brother, so I hope you don't confuse me for someone else in the future"

He looked taken aback at what I said "you are Caren's daughter?" He asked, it was clear that he had his doubt.

"Yes,"

He scanned what I was wearing and it was clear that my towel had given him a wrong impression of me.

"I don't have any clothes, so I came out to find the girl I had seen earlier" I immediately tried to clear the air.

He grunted and walked towards his closet.

He opened the closet and after some minutes of looking through his clothes he finally took out a white collar shirt and a pair of blue shorts.

"These are the smallest clothes I own, you can put them on"

"Thank you" I told him sincerely.

"It would be trouble to go out in your towel, so you can change here"

I nodded and waited for him to turn while I changed.

He stood there, then suddenly realized what he was meant to do.

"Oh... yeah ... I will turn now" he said awkwardly as he turned around facing the wall.

I quickly pulled the towel as I wore the shirt which according to him was his 'smallest clothes'

They were actually really big on me, the shirt stopped at my mid thigh while the shorts could be mistaken for a half cut trouser.

I coughed, trying to indicate that I was done.

"Are you Kayden's brother?" I asked as he turned to face me.

"Yes, my name is Shawn" he replied and noticed the way I kept trying to adjust the shirt.

"If you don't like it I can change it"

"Oh, no it's fine ..." my stomach suddenly made a loud rumbling sound.

I chuckled awkwardly as I held my stomach.

"It's time for dinner, you must be hungry"

Remembering how I was caught because I wanted to eat rabbit stew made me curse at myself.

Shawn left the room and I followed him.

"Caren said you were only ten when your pack was attacked"

I nodded and realized how stupid I was, he did not have any eyes at his back to see that I had nodded.

"Yes," I replied.

"So where have you been staying"

"I lived as a rogue with my aunt"

"Ahhh, " he stopped as if he remembered something, making me almost bump into him.

There was spark in his eyes "you are the infamous rogue that almost killed three of our pack warriors"

"Infamous" I asked with a questioning look.

"Word around the pack is that, there is a rogue that got captured who almost killed three of the pack warriors"

"I guess I am quite popular around here"

He stared at me "you don't look like you could fight"

I was thin, well mainly because I didn't really eat well

"You look like a fragile glass"

"Don't underestimate me, I can whoop your ass"

He laughed "I will like to take you up on your offer" he turned and continued walking.

Rolling my eyes, I followed him.

We alighted the stairs as he led me through other hallways, then we got to the front of a door.

He opened the door, and stepped in and I did the same.

I was taken aback as to how astonishing the dining room was that I did not notice we were not the only one in the room.

"Just in time for dinner" I heard Kayden's voice. I noticed that apart from Kayden, there were three other guys in the room.

I don't know why but the room felt suffocating and the stares I was receiving from the people in the room did not make it better

"Is she Caren's daughter?" one of the guys said. He was wearing a black suit, his jet black hair tousled and he still looked hot with it.

It did not take me long to guess that everyone in this room was Kayden's brother and damn were they all good looking.

"Amber" I heard my name, making me slide away from my thoughts.

"Come sit here," Kayden called out to me.

I was walking towards Kayden, when the guy in a suit suddenly pulled out a chair for me.

"You can seat here"

Saying thank you to him I sat on the chair.

"You are really pretty" the guy from across the table said with a goofy smile, it seems that he was the youngest, but he was older than me. He had a black spiky hair, and was wearing a green T shirt

"Thank you" I smiled back at him.

"My name is Mateo, this is Preston," he gestured to the guy in the suit. "And the grumpy looking guy over there is Nathan"

I looked at Nathan who was looking at me as though he was accessing me.

"And I am sure you have met Kayden and Shawn"

"Yes I have" I replied

"Just keep in mind that Kayden is a real bad influence" he whispered to me.

"I can hear you Mateo," Kayden shouted.

Mateo smiled "I did not say anything"

Mateo was really sweet, and an outgoing person.

"She looks really weak" Nathan who had been quiet all this while finally spoke, it seems he was done with his assessment.

"And I could say the same to you" I retorted.

"She is feisty, don't underestimate her Nathan" Preston said

"Where is Marcus" Shawn asked, the question was directed at Mateo.

"He said he was busy with something, I guess it's his new pet"

There was another, I had already met five of them, and I wondered how many step brothers I had.

"We all agreed to dinner this evening, it would be nice to eat together for once"

Mateo only shrugged his shoulders.

There was a knock on the door.

"Come in" Preston replied leaning back on his chair, I could feel his gaze on me, at least Mr grumpy wasn't staring at me.

The door opened, and several omegas in maids' uniform entered the room with a trolley filled with food.

My stomach growled in anticipation and I hoped no one noticed but Preston did and he laughed softly.

I could feel my face heat up as the food was being placed on the table.

Once the table was filled with food and the trolley was empty, they bowed and left the room.

Preston placed the roasted chicken in front of me.

"Help yourself, I am sure you are really hungry" he smiled at me.

I don't know if he was mocking me or was just trying to be nice.

I mouthed a thank you to him and turned away from him.

I was about to take a chunk from the chicken, when the door suddenly flew open with a loud bang.

I looked up from my food and I saw the one person I had never wanted to see again.

Alpha Kai stood in front of the door, the aura around him was intimidating and I became less hungry seeing him here.

"Brother, you came for dinner" Mateo happily said.

BROTHER!

He just called Alpha Kai, brother. I looked around the room and realized I was sitting in a room full of Alphas.
