Dana slowly opens her eyes, and once her vision became clearer, she saw a white ceiling, and the bright lights started blinding her a little bit. She closed her eyes again, and slowly opens it once more, until her eyes finally adjusted to the light. But she can now feel the searing pain in her hear, and she started groaning aloud. She feels like her head is about to crack open, and she started crying because of the undescribable pain she's feeling right now.
She tries to remember what happened to her and why she is feeling so much pain. What she can only remember was she and her husband were on the road, on their way back home. It was raining hard, there's almost zero visibility and the roads are slippery...
There was a bright light from a certain truck, and it was coming their way. And before she can fully react, she immediately felt a piercing pain on her head, and she doesn't know what happened next because her vision suddenly went pitch-black...
The pain that she's feeling in her head right now rose into a higher level after she tries to remember what happened. At the very same time, the door opens and she heard some footsteps coming her way. Eventhough her vision is still blurry, she saw a man coming her way, while holding a bouquet of flowers.
After a few seconds, she can feel the man's hand gently holding her, and she feels comforted by it.
Dana tightly held his hand in return, never wanting to let him go.
"Love, what's going on? Are you in pain? Don't worry, I will call the doctor rightaway!" she heard that familiar baritone voice, and she knew that she's safe.
And before she could say something, she lost her consciousness, and her vision went black again.
Meanwhile, the doctor and a nurse started rushing inside the room, while a certain man was looking at Dana with a worried expression on his face...
==========================
Few days have passed.
Garrett and Dana are both talking to Dr. William Faulkerson, who's a neurologist and in-charge of Dana's medical case.
"Based on her test results, Dana is still lucky because we didn't see any irregularities in her brain. There's no inflammation or any massive hemorrhages, so I can confidently say that she's out of the woods. The only thing that she needs to focus on is her physical rehabilitation so that she can normally move her body again, since she's been in a comatosed state for a long time. And as a husband, you need to support your wife mentally, emotionally and physically." the doctor relayed his diagnosis.
"Of course, Dr. Faulkerson. I will be with my wife in every step of the way, until she fully recovers." Garrett said, while looking determined. He lovingly squeezed his wife's hand, showing his support to her.
At the same time, Dana isn't afraid anymore on what will happen to her because she knows that her husband is giving his 100% love and support on her road to her recovery.
She can finally remember how she ended up. in a hospital. She and her husband, Garrett where both involved in a car crash. Their hometown is experiencing a massive storm and it was heavily raining that night. Garrett is driving, and they are on their way back home. Her husband is driving the pick-up truck, and everything seems to be perfectly normal, until a huge truck suddenly appeared out of nowhere, and their vehicle collided with it, and that's why they both ended in a hospital.
Dana's feeling relieved because her husband is okay after what happened to them. She is also grateful because she was able to survive the crash, and both of them are alive.
And now, she's determined to do everything and anything she can to make herself feel better, so that they can go back living a normal life as a husband and wife...
================================
Few more days have passed, and Dana was finally discharged from the hospital. She's very lucky because her husband never left her side, even though he looks so tired and weary because of taking everything for her. But he never complains, and he always has a smile on his face.
Garrett is now driving their way back home, and Dana is at the passenger's seat, feeling the fresh air, while admiring the view outside. It feels so good to be finally out, after being confined at the hospital for a very long time...
After almost half an hour, Garrett stops the car infront of their house. He immediately brings out and readied the wheelchair, as his wife still needs it because she still can't fully walk on her own.
Garrett opened the passenger's seat and carried Dana, bridal style and gently lays her down on the wheelchair, and he started pushing her until they reached inside the house.
Dana felt a sudden sense of familiarity when she finally entered the house. She is finally home after staying in the hospital for over a year.
"Welcome home, Dana." she heard her husband's voice.
"It feels so good to be finally back home with you." Dana's slightly tearful response.
Dana forced herself to stand but her legs were still shaking and limp. Garrett quickly picked him up again, and sat him down on a nearby sofa.
"Don't force yourself to walk just yet, Dana. We need to follow the doctor's advice to regularly and religiously do rehabilitation, so you can walk again like before." Garrett kindly informed him.
"You're right. I shouldn't have been in a hurry. I was just too excited to see and be back home again. I feel like I want to tour the whole household, so I guess I will just have to wait until I'm fully recovered." Dana nodded in agreement.
"I can be your legs and tour you around the house for the meantime." Garrett's suggestion.
Dana lovingly stares at her husband. She's so lucky to have a loving, kind, and gentle husband just like Garrett.
"I don't know what I did right in my past life to have a perfect husband like you, love. Thank you very much for loving and taking care of me after all this time. I love you so much." she poured out all her heart towards her husband.
"I love you. More than you'll ever know." Garrett responded.
Dana leaned towards her husband, as she got closer to him to give him a loving and passionate kiss. He pressed his lips to Garrett's.
Dana opened her mouth and deeply kissed her husband, expecting him to kiss her deeper. But there seems to be something different about her husband's kiss. It wasn't that passionate as it used to be, and it was like an obligatory kiss.
Until he felt his wife release from his embrace.
"You just got out of the hospital, love, so that's why let's take it slow for the meantime. By the way, aren't you hungry? You need to eat first so that you can take your medications. Then you can rest. We had a very long day today." Garrett spoke again.
Dana secretly thought as she looked at her husband. She's wondering why her husband can't look at her straight in the eye... Aside from that, why is her husband acting so strange after that kiss?
Dana snaps out of her reverie when she hears a familiar voice behind her. He smiled widely when she saw Nanny Lydia, the head helper in their house. She has been with their family for a long time, and she's already a member of their family...
She considers Nana Lydia her second mother, since her parents are already living abroad with her older sister, who's already a citizen in the United States.
"Dana, my dear! Welcome back! I'm glad you're back home!" Manang Lydia greeted her while getting teary-eyed.
Dana tightly hugged the old woman. She missed her so much and she's very happy to see her again after a very long time.
"How are you, Nana?" asked Dana.
"Well, I'm still the same old Nana Lydia. The whole household are so happy and we're complete again because you're finally back." Nana Lydia us now getting more emotional.
They are still in the middle of their chat when they suddenly heard a rumbling noise from Dana's stomach.
She sheepishly smiled at her husband and Nana Lydia.
"I'm hungry." Dana announced, while smiling from ear to ear.
"Oh, don't worry. The table is ready for you. I've cooked all your favorite foods. Come and eat when you're ready." Nana Lydia stated, while looking excited.
"I missed your cooking, Nana Lydia. Looks like I'll be eating a lot today." Dana happily said.
Garrett then helped her get back on her wheelchair, and the three of them are now making their way to the dining room...
===============================
Later that evening.
Dana just came out of a warm shower. Nana Lydia helped her take a shower because her husband Garrett because he still needs to work at the mango farm.
After she got dressed and dried her hair, Manang Lydia combed her hair.
"I am so happy that you're alive and well, Dana. I thank God that you are with us again." the old woman said with a smile, while she's gently combing Dana's hair.
"I am very grateful to God because my husband and I survived, Nana. And I'm just so glad my husband never left my side while I was under a comatose state. I'm very lucky that I'm married to Garrett." Dana relayed, in a sincere tone.
Nana Lydia suddenly stopped combing her hair, and she averted her eyes from him.
Dana curiously frowned in return, as it was obvious that she's been acting really strange.
"Are you okay, Nana? Is there something wrong?" she decided to ask her.
The old woman gave her a small smile, then she resumed brushing her hair.
"Oh, nothing. You're absolutely right. Garrett has been with you and he almost left your side while you were in the hospital." Nana Lydia spoke.
Meanwhile, Dana is trying to shake off her thoughts about Nana Lydia's peculiar behavior. Maybe it's the side effects of all the medications she's taking, that's why she's overthinking right now.
"That's why I will try to make up for my husband. I will do everything and anything I can to make him happy." she decided.
The old woman was about to say something but she decided not to when they heard someone knocking at the door.
"I think Garrett's finally home!" Dana exclaimed, while looking excited. Her heart is beating so fast, and she feels like a high school girl, eagerly waiting for her first love to come her way...
"I'll open the door and leave you two." Nana Lydia stated.
Nana is now making her way out from the couple's room, and before she can close the door, Dana spoke again.
"Thank you, Nana Lydia."
The old woman finally opens the door, and sure enough, it was Garrett standing by the door
Dana almost forgot how to breathe while looking at her handsome husband.
He looks almost exactly the same the first time she met him, ten years ago. She's still swooning over him after all these years. She's still drawn to his big, warm eyes which stares back at her as if he's searching her inner soul. He got an almost perfect nose, not too high nose bridge, not too low, either. He also got a defined and chiseled jaw that can me compared to a Greek sculpture tht can be seen in the museums. He got all the muscles in right places, and he's tall and lean. He got a great body physique, and just by looking at him ignites the passion of fire inside her...
"Why aren't you sleeping now? And have you taken all your medications?" her husband asked her, while looking concerned.
"Oh, I already did. I just had a chat with Nana Lydia because I felt like we had lots of catching up to do." Dana smilingly responded.
"I see." Garrett nodded in return, as he opens the cabinet to get some clothes.
"Did you already eat dinner? If you want, I can ask Nana Lydia to prepare something, and I'll accompany you..." suggested Dana.
"It's alright. I already had dinner with the harvesters at the mango farm." stated Garrett.
Dana watches her husband take off his work jacket and his work gloves.
"So, how's your work at the farm, love?" Dana decided to ask about her husband's day.
"Well, same as usual. We're going to harvest all the mangoes tomorrow, and we're going to get it ready for export." Garrett shared what happened at work the whole day.
"That sounds like fun! Can I go to the mango farm and watch you work?" Dana suddenly suggested, while looking excited.
"I'm sorry, but you can't do that. You just came out from the hospital and I can't let you stay in the farm under a high temperature. You're still in your recovery period, remember?" Garrett reminded his wife.
Dana pouted in return, while looking a bit disappointed.
"No, don't give me that look. I'm not going to change my mind. Anyway, you need to sleep now. I'm just going to take a shower so you don't have to wait for me." Garrett instructed her.
And before Dana could protest, Garrett is already making his way to the bathroom to take a quick shower.
She sighed in return, as she pushes her own wheelchair. She tries her very best to get on the bed. She decided to wait for her husband to finish showering, join her in bed, give her a goodnight kiss, and who knows what will happen next.
She giggled, while thinking those naughty things. She's looking forward on sharing a wild and passionate nights with her husband, as she stayed in the hospital for more than one year.
Dana gets herself ready for what is about to happen tonight...
===============================
The next morning.
Dana lets out a soft groan as she slowly opens her eyes. She can see the rays of the morning sun illuminating the whole room, and she can see the chirping sound from the morning birds.
As she's finally awake, she glances at the other side of the bed where her husband usually sleeps.
But she frowned in confusion when she realized that her husband is not there. Her frown deepens when she noticed that there were no creases on Garrett's pillows and on the bed sheet.
Dana gets one of the pillows and she tries to sniff it. She can't smell her husband's scent from the pillow.
Her plan was to stay awake and wait for her husband, as she was expecting him to make love to her last night. But she's guessing that the reason she immediately fell asleep last night was because of all the medication she took...
But does this mean that her husband didn't sleep with her on the bed last night? If yes, where the heck did he sleep last night? And the most important question is, why didn't he sleep with her in one bed?
Dana snaps out from her reverie when she heard someone knocking on the door.
"Dana, dear?" it was Nana Lydia knocking on her door.
"Please come in, Nana." she calls for her.
When the door opens she saw Nana Lydia, along with a younger female house help who's carrying a tray of food. They both greeted Dana a good morning.
"I knew you would wake up at this exact time. By the way, I made you some light breakfast. Toasted bread with strawberry jam, a cup of decaffeinated coffee, some sliced fruits, and a glass of orange juice. You need also need to take your morning medicine." the old woman reminded her.
The house help laid down the tray on a special table. Dana thanks her, then afterwards, she left the room, leaving her and Nana Lydia.
"Nana, where's Garrett?" Dana asks.
"He left at the wee hours of the morning, Dana. They're going to harvest the mangoes, so he's going to be very busy today." Nana Lydia informed her.
Dana also wanted to ask her if she knows where her husband slept last night, but she decided not to because she doesn't want to look and sound suspicious of her husband.
"What are your plans for today, my dear? Do you want to roam around the garden to breathe in some fresh air? I can go with you if you want..." Nana Lydia smilingly suggested.
Dana's eyes sparkled in excitement, when she suddenly thought of a wonderful idea.
"I want to visit my husband at the mango farm, Nana! I can also help you deliver lunch to him and to the harvester at the farm!"
Nana Lydia looked a bit surprise with her idea, but after a few seconds, she lets out a small smile and nodded as an answer.
"Well, if that's what you want. I can ask the driver to drive us to the mango farm to see your husband."
