My Secret Lover Is The Crown Prince Alpha

Author: Qian Mo Mo
Genre: Werewolf
For three years, I hid my true Alpha scent and beauty under a sallow herbal paste, playing the role of a plain, wolfless Omega just to maintain my betrothal to Gideon. But the day he returned victorious from the border, he brought back a pregnant frontier woman named Livia. In front of his powerful parents, he coldly demanded to break our blood-sealed marriage contract. "I will not tie my future, or the future of this Pack, to a plain-faced girl who hides in the shadows!" He called me a useless burden, while Livia clutched her stomach and hypocritically begged me to accept the humiliating role of a secondary partner. Gideon proudly announced he would petition the Alpha King to annul our arrangement so Livia could be his Luna, treating my family's sacred honor like disposable trash. He thought he had completely destroyed my life, leaving me a public laughingstock with nowhere to go. He had no idea that getting him to drag this dispute into the royal throne room was my ultimate goal all along, my only chance to avenge my murdered family. And he certainly didn't know that my secret companion, the man I kept in the shadows, was actually the King's ruthless son. Looking at Gideon's arrogant face, I calmly accepted his challenge. It was finally time to wash off my disguise before the entire court and let him see the powerful Alpha Baroness he had just thrown away.

Chapter 1

SERAPHINA POV:

"When will I finally become your official partner?" Damian whispered, his voice a husky murmur vibrating against my skin.

He propped himself up on one elbow, his golden eyes gleaming with a playful yet desperate intensity. His arm tightened around my waist, pulling me flush against his chest in a possessive, clinging gesture.

He buried his face in my neck, his lips tracing a slow, teasing path along my jawline. He acted like a massive, overly affectionate hound, demanding my attention and keeping me firmly anchored to him.

I released a soft, exasperated sigh, feeling a familiar, helpless fondness wash over me. His relentless need for physical contact was overwhelming, yet it grounded me in ways I rarely admitted.

The scent of rain and him filled the air, an intoxicating mix that usually settled the storm inside me. Tonight, however, his question stirred the very tempest I sought to escape. His thumb stroked my cheek, pleading for an answer. This was the dangerous territory we constantly circled.

Three years ago, our arrangement had started as a simple transaction.

I am Seraphina Beaumont, the last of my bloodline, carrying the heavy burden of my family's legacy. My path was set in stone long before I met Damian: a strategic betrothal to Gideon Montgomery.

To the public, Gideon was the realm's golden commander, a paragon of honor and chivalry. In private, he was a suffocating nightmare. During the rare times we shared the same room, he made a sport of belittling me. He would dismiss my opinions with a patronizing smirk, constantly reminding me that a woman's mind was too fragile for the complexities of his world.

Even from the border wars, his letters were a masterclass in humiliation. Instead of updates on the campaign, his missives were filled with glowing praises of Lady Livia, a healer in his camp.

Livia is so gentle, so remarkably compliant, he would write, the ink practically dripping with condescension. You would do well to learn from her quiet grace, Seraphina. A Montgomery wife must be virtuous, submissive, and above all, silent.

He viewed me as a mere stepping stone for his political ambitions, a prize to be disciplined and displayed. The prospect of sharing a bed with a man who constantly measured me against his mistress-and demanded I shrink myself to fit his hypocritical mold-made my skin crawl.

Yet, my family's survival depended entirely on his military might. It was a gilded cage I was forced to enter for my people's sake. Facing a lifetime locked in that sterile, emotionally abusive marriage, I had sought out a temporary escape.

Damian was the exact opposite. He was supposed to be just a paid companion, a fleeting luxury with clear boundaries. But over the past three years, the lines had hopelessly blurred. His fierce loyalty and the raw, unfiltered way he looked at me had slowly chipped away at my carefully constructed defenses. What began as a physical release had morphed into an emotional anchor I desperately needed.

I shifted against the pillows, forcing my expression into a mask of calm neutrality. I reached toward the nightstand, my fingers finding the familiar small, velvet pouch I had prepared earlier. The clink of coins was unnaturally loud in the quiet room as I pressed it into his large hand.

It was my standard defense mechanism, a physical reminder of the boundaries we were supposed to keep.

The playful warmth in his golden eyes vanished, instantly replaced by a brooding, stormy fury. He tossed the velvet pouch back onto the wooden nightstand with a sharp, dismissive thud. The coins spilled slightly, scattering across the polished wood.

"Keep your damn money, Seraphina!" he growled, his voice thick with raw, unrestrained emotion. He caught my wrists, pinning them gently but firmly to the mattress, forcing me to meet his gaze. "I only want you. I want a real bond. I want a place by your side in the light of day."

His vulnerability was a physical weight pressing down on my chest. The sheer desperation in his voice tugged violently at my heartstrings. I sighed, gently prying my wrists from his grasp and resting my hands against his bare chest.

"Stop messing around, Damian," I murmured, injecting a dose of harsh reality into the heated air. "You know Gideon returns from the border wars tomorrow. The estate will be full of his guards and my family's advisors. If he finds out about our affair, we'll both be in big trouble."

The mention of my fiancé's name made his jaw clench. A flash of profound hurt crossed his features, and he pulled back slightly, the rejection radiating from his tense shoulders. Seeing the genuine pain in his eyes shattered the last of my resolve. The cold facade I wore for the world melted away completely.

I sat up, closing the distance between us. I reached out, threading my fingers through his dark hair, and gently cupped his cheek. My thumb brushed over his lower lip, a tender, soothing gesture meant only for him.

"Look at me," I whispered, my voice softening into a velvet purr. I leaned in, pressing my forehead against his, making sure he felt the absolute sincerity in my words. "Gideon is just a pawn in a game I have to play. The marriage, the titles, the public appearances... it is all just a performance. A hollow formality."

I trailed my lips over his jaw, feeling his erratic pulse beneath my kiss. "They are all just passing shadows, Damian. You are the only one I truly want."

For a fleeting second, the raw honesty in my words seemed to soothe the wild beast inside him. But then, the harsh reality of our situation crashed back into the room. His jaw tightened, the muscles feathering under his skin. He pulled away from my touch, the sudden loss of his warmth leaving a cold void in my chest.

"Beautiful words, Seraphina," he rasped, his voice laced with a bitter, agonizing frustration. "Beautiful words that leave our reality completely unaltered."

He rolled off the bed, his movements sharp and erratic. He gathered his clothes from the floor, dressing with a furious, restless energy. The air crackled with his unresolved anger. He paused at the door, his broad shoulders tense, keeping his gaze fixed firmly on the wooden frame.

"I will leave you to your shadows, then," he stated, his tone clipped and distant.

The heavy oak door clicked shut behind him, the sound echoing like a final judgment in the quiet room.

DAMIAN POV:

The crisp night air did nothing to cool the inferno in my chest as I left Seraphina's chambers. I shoved my hands into my pockets, my jaw aching. The phantom weight of that velvet pouch-her payment-still burned my palm.

"Your Highness."

Owen, my Beta, stepped from the courtyard shadows. He bowed, his eyes urgent. "We have lingered in the human lands too long. The King demands your return to the Royal Court."

I let out a low snarl. The sound carried a dark, suppressed Alpha edge, making Owen step back in instinctual submission.

A paid companion. The thought tasted like ash. I am an Alpha Prince, heir to a lethal, ancient bloodline. Yet, every time I came to her bed, I had to painstakingly mask my scent. I suffocated my own nature, hiding my wolf, just so she wouldn't realize the man so obsessed with her was actually royalty.

I did it willingly, just to be near her. But the woman my wolf howled for continually hid behind her walls. She used those damn coins as a shield, desperately avoiding the real bond growing between us. She wasn't trying to insult me; she was just terrified to face her own heart.

And it was all because of him.

Gideon Montgomery.

Every time I tried to claim my rightful place as her mate, she used his damn name to evade me. If it weren't for his betrothal to my mate, I wouldn't be forced into the humiliating role of the "other man." I wouldn't be a secret kept in the dark. It was entirely his fault that she felt so trapped.

Just the thought of that stiff, armor-clad fool touching what was mine made my blood boil. Gideon was the only obstacle blocking my place by her side.

"Prepare the horses, Owen," I commanded, my voice dropping to an icy calm. I looked back up at Seraphina's dimly lit window.

Gideon wasn't invincible. Every man had a fatal flaw, a secret sin hidden behind a noble facade. I would use every resource at the Royal Court to dig up his dirt. I wouldn't just kill him; I would find a way to force him to break the engagement with the woman I loved.

I would ruin his reputation completely. And when the dust settled, Seraphina would have no more excuses to run from me.

Chapter 11

SERAPHINA POV:

I sat in a velvet armchair in my new royal suite, the dried night-blooming jasmine resting on my palm. Its scent was faint, a ghost of the nights I had spent with Damian. Why was this flower, a secret piece of my private life, tucked inside a book from the King? My stomach clenched. This sudden elevation, this barony... it felt less like a gift and more like a leash. A beautiful, gilded cage.

My new maid, a young woman named Clara Jenkins whom the palace had assigned to me, entered the room carrying a tea service. Her face was flushed with an excitement she couldn't contain.

"A Baroness! My lady, you're a Baroness!" she whispered, her voice full of awe as she set the porcelain cup down.

I looked from her innocent joy to the opulent room, then back to the flower in my hand. The pieces didn't fit. The generosity was too much, the timing too perfect. A cold wave of suspicion washed over me.

"It feels less like a gift and more like a leash, Clara," I said quietly. With a deliberate slowness, I brought my thumb down, crushing the delicate, dried petals into dust.

Clara's smile froze. "My lady?"

"This favor is too heavy," I murmured, wiping the floral dust from my fingers. "It feels like part of a plan. And I don't know whose."

Just then, a royal attendant appeared at the door, his posture stiff. "Your Excellency, Lord Gideon Montgomery requests an audience."

A cold, humorless smile touched my lips. Of course. The fool had come running.

"Tell him Baroness Beaumont is occupied," I said, my voice flat. It was the first time I had used the title. It felt like putting on ill-fitting armor.

The attendant hesitated. "He says it's urgent, my lady. He looks... distressed."

My curiosity piqued. I rose from the chair and walked to the door, peering through the small peephole. There he was, my ex-fiancé, pacing the corridor like a caged animal. The usual arrogance was gone from his face, replaced by a raw, desperate regret. The sight sent a sharp, satisfying thrill through me.

I pulled the heavy oak door wide open, stepping fully into the threshold. I wanted him to see me. I wanted him to see the opulent suite behind me, the fine silk of my new gown, and the absolute disdain in my eyes.

"Lord Montgomery," I said. My voice was ice.

His head snapped up. His eyes widened, taking in my appearance. The shock on his face was palpable, quickly followed by a wave of raw, desperate regret. "Seraphina, I... We need to talk," he stammered, taking a step forward.

"That is Baroness Beaumont to you, my lord," I corrected him smoothly, not yielding an inch of space. "Or has your new engagement already made you forget basic court etiquette?"

His face flushed a dark, ugly red. "Please, don't do this. I was a fool," he choked out, his eyes pleading. "I didn't know the King would... I didn't know you would be elevated like this."

I let out a soft, mocking laugh that made him flinch. "Ah, there it is. The ugly truth. You didn't come here to apologize to Seraphina, the woman you so easily discarded when she was of no political use to you. You came to grovel before the Baroness of Sunstone Coast."

"That's not true! I realized my mistake-"

"You realized your miscalculation," I cut him off, my words sharp as a guillotine. "You threw away a diamond because you were too stupid to see its worth without a royal stamp of approval. And now that the King himself has set it in gold, you come crawling back like a starved dog?"

He opened his mouth, but no words came out. He looked utterly pathetic, stripped of all his former arrogance.

"You made your choice when you thought I was beneath you, Gideon," I said, my voice dropping to a lethal whisper. "Now, I am the one looking down. Do not ever approach my chambers again."

I shut the door firmly in his stunned face. I could hear his frustrated, ragged breathing on the other side. There was no pity in my heart, only the cold, intoxicating satisfaction of a battle won.

I turned away, deciding to visit the royal library. I needed to learn about Sunstone Coast, my new domain. My leash.

As I walked down a long, dim corridor lined with ancient tapestries, a flicker of movement from behind a marble column caught my eye. A tall figure, a familiar silhouette. The way he moved...

My heart stopped. Damian.

I immediately broke into a run, my soft slippers silent on the stone floor. I rounded the corner, my breath catching in my throat. The corridor was empty. A cold draft blew in from an open window, making the tapestries sway like ghosts.

Was it my imagination? Or was he really here, in the heart of the royal palace? A simple paid companion could never get this deep into the royal wing. The knot of suspicion in my stomach tightened into a painful cramp.

Chapter 12

MIRANDA MAYNARD POV:

I stood behind my daughter, Rowena, brushing her long, golden hair as she sat at her vanity. Princess Beatrice's grand birthday gala was just days away, the most anticipated event of the season, and our chambers were a flurry of activity for Rowena's final dress fitting and styling trial. The air was thick with the scent of hairspray, expensive perfume, and raw ambition. Every detail of Rowena's appearance had to be flawless. The reflection in the mirror showed her perfect, doll-like face, framed by a breathtaking gown of spun silver-a face destined for greatness.

"The key to the gala," I murmured, my voice a low, conspiratorial hiss, "is Prince Sebastian Carlisle." My daughter is my greatest asset, and I have taught her how to use her beauty as a weapon.

Rowena's blue eyes lit up in the mirror as I pinned a diamond hairpin into her curls to test the look. "Princess Beatrice's younger brother? But he rarely appears in public."

"He will be at his sister's gala," I said with certainty. "I have made inquiries. He is looking for a mate." I fastened a string of pearls around her slender neck, my touch a silent command. "You are beautiful, my dear. Far more beautiful than that newly minted 'Baroness.' You must catch his eye. A royal marriage will secure our family's position for generations." My own ambitions rested on her shoulders.

Rowena nodded, her eyes shining with the dream of a crown. My perfect, obedient little pawn.

I left her to her maids for the final touches and returned to my own suite. My husband, Vincent, stood by the window, his back to me. He was polishing an old hunting knife, an obsessive habit he fell into whenever he was brooding.

"Still mourning your precious Isabella?" I sneered. Isabella, his first wife and my older sister, had been dead for nearly twenty years, but her ghost still haunted this marriage.

His hand stilled. He didn't turn around. "Show some respect, Miranda. She was your sister."

"She was a fool who died in childbirth," I spat, the words tasting like acid. "And her niece is proving to be just as troublesome." I brought up Seraphina's sudden ennoblement, and he finally turned, his brow furrowed. He was a weak man, but his connection to the Beaumonts still held some sway.

"Leave the girl alone, Miranda," he warned. "The King has shown her favor. Antagonizing her is unwise."

"Unwise?" I let out a shrill, humorless laugh. "That girl's very existence is an insult to us! Her aunt stole you from me once, and now she rises while my daughter has to fight for a position?"

A look of profound weariness crossed his face. "That's ancient history. Don't let your jealousy consume you." He turned and left the room, taking the knife with him, leaving me alone with my seething rage.

SERAPHINA POV:

I was in my study, examining a map of Sunstone Coast, when Clara entered, her arms carefully cradling a large, velvet-covered object.

"My lady, another gift for you!" she chirped. "From an anonymous admirer!"

I looked up, my guard instantly raised. Gifts had been arriving all day, and I had refused every single one.

Clara pulled off the velvet cover. Inside the ornate golden cage was a bird, its feathers the color of pure snow, except for a brilliant crest of sapphire-blue feathers on its head. It tilted its head, looked at me with intelligent black eyes, and let out a song that sounded like crystal bells chiming.

My breath caught. I knew this bird. An Azure-crested Songbird, from the far southern jungles. They were impossibly rare, obscenely expensive. And I had once, in a moment of idle chatter with Damian, mentioned that I loved their song.

My heart skipped a beat. It had to be him. No one else could have known.

I walked to the cage and extended a finger. The bird hopped closer and gently rubbed its head against my fingertip. This wasn't a gift of wealth; it was a message. I know you. I am everywhere. A chill of being watched crept down my spine, but beneath it, a traitorous warmth spread through my chest. The feeling of being seen. Cherished.

I sighed. "Keep it, Clara. It's... lovely."

As if on cue, the royal attendant appeared again, this time holding a single, heavy cream envelope with a golden seal.

I broke the seal and opened it. An invitation to Princess Beatrice's upcoming birthday gala. As a newly minted Baroness, my attendance was now mandatory.

But at the bottom of the formal script, a single line was scrawled in a different, wilder ink. A familiar handwriting that made my pulse quicken.

"I look forward to seeing you there."

It was Damian's. He hadn't just sent the bird. He had handled my invitation. What was his role in this palace? The questions swirled in my head, a confusing, dangerous storm.

DAMIAN POV:

I stood at the window of my private study, looking out across the palace grounds toward Seraphina's suite. My Beta, Owen Hayes, stood silently behind me. He was a quiet, efficient wolf, the only one in the palace who knew the full extent of my double life.

"Your Highness, the songbird and the invitation have been delivered," Owen reported. "Baroness Beaumont accepted them. She will be attending."

A slow smile spread across my face. Of course she did. She had to get used to my presence in her life, whether in the shadows of her bedroom or the bright halls of the palace. She was mine.

I knew Miranda and her spiteful daughter would not let Seraphina's triumph go unchallenged. The upcoming gala would be their chosen battlefield.

And I would be ready for them.

"Owen," I commanded, my voice low. "Keep a close watch on the Maynard estate's preparations. And ensure the guest list for the gala includes a few... interesting individuals from the Northern Front."

I turned from the window, my smile turning sharp and predatory. I was going to make this gala very interesting indeed.
