Caitlin's POV
"Caitlin! You should be in the kitchen right now, not in the basement! Are you trying to slack off again?"
Judy's hoarse voice echoed through the house, and I sighed resignedly, getting up from the creaky old spring bed.
She is the beta female of the pack and my nightmare.
My name is Caitlin Hill, and I am the omega of the Fang pack.
A year ago, I was the sole alpha heir in the pack.
"Caitlin!" Judy urged again.
"Coming!"
I replied, looking at myself in the mirror. My golden-brown hair was hidden under a baseball cap, and my sapphire blue eyes were filled with weariness.
High nose, attractive lips, but all of this was concealed by the coal dust from the basement.
I did this on purpose; beauty only attracts more trouble.
In the kitchen, I was preparing breakfast for today, toast and eggs.
Judy waved the cane in her hand and harshly struck my arm, "You shouldn't be slacking off! Christmas is just a few months away, and we have a lot to prepare!"
I lowered my head obediently to avoid more beatings.
"Where's Beth?" a man's voice came from the doorway, and my body tensed.
That man was my former fiancé and my first mate, Jason.
I remember, once under the silver moonlight, he stood in front of the bonfire in the forest and said to me, "Caitlin, you will be my lover, I will only love you."
But later, I was drugged by my best friend Beth and ended up in bed with a stranger, all witnessed by Jason.
He rejected me, and I couldn't forget it. He didn't listen to my explanations and firmly said, "I, Jason Henry, reject you, Caitlin Hill, as my mate."
My heart ached, a wolf howled inside me, and I could feel her sadness and despair.
I endured the heartache and responded to his rejection.
After being rejected, I didn't show any other werewolf symptoms, no burning pain or death.
Strangely, after a brief heartache, both my wolf and I returned to normal.
But the next day, my parents were cruelly killed by enemies, and Beth's father took advantage of the situation, becoming the new alpha of the Fang pack.
Everything happened so fast, as if it had been planned.
When I realized it, Beth was already engaged to Jason, and Jason's second mate turned out to be Beth?!
As for me, Beth stood in front of me, looking down at me, "Caitlin, I won't drive you out of the pack, I will take care of you, but your abilities are too weak. You can only stay as an omega in the pack."
I had just come of age, and it took many transformations to succeed, a very painful process, and my wolf was weak. If I were driven out of the pack, I didn't know how to survive.
But staying was also a nightmare.
They withheld all my "wages," and apart from some leftover bread I could eat every day, I had nothing else.
"I told you! I will never marry her! My fiancé is only Jason!" Beth's sharp voice came from the study. When she saw Jason, her anger turned into surprise, and she jumped into Jason's arms like a lively rabbit.
I turned away, pretending not to see any of it.
Although it had been a year, I still couldn't let go. My fiancé married my best friend.
I brought the toast and eggs to Beth, and her sweet face smiled at me, "Thank you."
Then she lowered her voice and said to me, "Covering up your beauty was the right choice, Caitlin. You know, I care a lot about your past with Jason."
I nodded without saying a word.
Alpha Joseph also arrived at the table; he was Beth's father.
At the dining table, they argued again, and I sat in the utility room staircase nibbling on dry bread, looking at the book in my hands.
"Beth! You should follow my words!"
"Sorry, Joseph, Beth is my fiancée, she should marry me."
"But this is a blood oath!" Joseph slammed the table, his tone filled with helplessness.
With a vow sealed in blood, those who break it will die.
Silence fell.
I strained to hear and caught Beth's words: "That man shouldn't be me either!"
The rest of her words faded away.
After breakfast, Joseph instructed me to go to the study.
Beth stood nearby, her golden curls cascading down, chin held high like a proud swan.
Joseph spoke, "Caitlyn, you should know that without us, you would have been killed by the enemy's pack or become their slave. It was at Beth's request that we took you in; you should remember our kindness."
I remained silence, if being treated as an omega and having my parents' pack taken away counted as kindness...
Beth looked down at me, "Now, here's your chance to repay that kindness, marry that sickly Rogue!"
"Then you won't have any thoughts about Jason anymore!"
Oh! Beth probably didn't know, after being rejected by Jason, I had no more thoughts about him. Not being trusted as a mate, I didn't want to go through that feeling again!
My wolf roared angrily within me, despite her small size, she despised all these arranged circumstances, longing for freedom and true love.
Quiet!
I told her.
I looked at Beth, "I agree to marry him."
I didn't want to marry a man I didn't love, especially a rogue who might emit a foul odor, lose his mind, and become aggressive.
But I wasn't afraid!
If I could escape from here!
Caitlyn's POV
Soon, that day arrived.
I wore a white linen dress, my only slightly presentable outfit, as the rest of my clothes had turned old and faded from washing.
After all, I didn't have a luxurious and beautiful wedding gown.
For the first time in a year, I wiped away the coal dust from my face, revealing my true self!
I sat in the dark, damp basement, waiting for that unfamiliar man.
My feelings were complex; leaving here was undoubtedly a relief, but I hadn't yet discovered the cause of my parents' deaths...
I didn't believe it was an accident!
And I had no idea what fate had in store for me next.
I gently touched the relic left by my mother, a necklace made of moonstone: "Moon Goddess, do I make a right choice?"
"Caitlyn! I think you should be ready!" Judy pushed open the iron door, allowing light to flood into my small basement room.
As I entered the hall, I finally saw the man.
Due to his disabled legs, he sat in a wheelchair, wearing a mask, but his pale lips clearly showed his weakness.
He looked sick for a long time, appearing much weaker compared to other healthy werewolves.
He was currently talking to Joseph, occasionally interrupted by coughing.
"Caitlyn?" Jason called out to me from the side, looking surprised to see me, then frowned, "So, you've given up on yourself just to marry such a wolf? He's a ROGUE!"
I frowned, sounding aloof, "I'm sorry, I don't understand what you mean, Jason."
"Even if you reject me and I refuse you, you shouldn't degrade yourself like this! I heard from Beth that you begged the alpha to marry him."
I couldn't help but chuckle, "Do you think I have the right to refuse? I'm the former alpha's daughter of the Sharp Fang pack. If I were to refuse the current alpha, Joseph would agree!"
Ha, did you hear that? My former mate had such a ridiculous idea, always believing Beth without giving me an ounce of trust.
With just a few words from Beth, he was convinced that I begged to marry a ROGUE.
Jason's expression turned from shock to disgust, "Beth was right, you're just a whore who can climb into different men's beds for a purpose."
Although we had severed ties, hearing such insults still made my heart ache.
"Darling," Beth's sweet voice came over, she leaned on Jason like a boneless shrimp, her hazel eyes gleaming with pride. But when she spoke, she put on that facade of kindness, "You don't need to persuade Caitlin anymore. I've tried to advise her, but she seems determined to marry that ROGUE."
"I can't believe that such a person was once my mate," Jason's face turned cold, he glared at me fiercely before turning and walking away.
After everyone left, Beth reverted to her usual sharp and sarcastic demeanor: "Did you see that? This is the man you're about to marry. He wears a mask because his face has been disfigured into a monster, and when he was driven out of the tribe, the alpha broke his legs."
"Haha, this is the destiny that suits you, Caitlin. You should marry a crippled monster! Instead of fantasizing about Jason!"
I turned to her, she looked surprised, then jealous. I knew she always resented my appearance, and she gritted her teeth, lowering her voice, "You should cover up your ugly face."
Looking at her, I replied calmly, "Beth, do you think I don't know the truth? I will come back sooner or later. And then my wolf will bite your neck with its own teeth!"
"You!" Beth widened her eyes, perhaps not expecting me to speak like that, especially since I had never challenged them like this in the past year.
I must thank them for giving me the chance to escape from here.
Ignoring Beth, I walked towards the main hall and politely greeted the man. He looked at me, and beneath the mask were a pair of deep emerald eyes.
With just one glance, I felt irresistibly drawn to those eyes, filled with infinite charm that led me into a trance.
"This is Raymond, your betrothed," Joseph's voice interrupted my thoughts.
"Are you Lily's daughter?" Raymond looked at me.
My heart tightened involuntarily. Lily... is my mother.
"Yes," I hurriedly replied.
"Come with me." Raymond wasted no words, turning his wheelchair towards the door.
No wedding, no promises, no family blessings. I hurriedly followed Raymond, pushing his wheelchair.
Raymond didn't refuse. Now I left the tribe, I felt an unprecedented sense of ease.
Glancing back at this place I had lived in for over a decade, I never thought I would one day leave.
"Do you have so few belongings for your journey?" Raymond looked at my box.
"Yes, I don't have much," I answered.
"I am a Rogue, without a tribe. If you mind my status and have second thoughts." Raymond said.
I must admit, his voice was truly pleasant, like a seductive, rich wine that intoxicated.
"I won't... I won't regret it."
Raymond didn't seem surprised: " Let's leave."
Raymond drove a black car, with a dedicated driver who didn't seem like other rogues wandering aimlessly.
Rather, he seemed more like lone wolves. But lone wolves usually lived alone because of inconvenience, so why would he hire someone?
"How old are you?" Raymond asked me.
"19..." I replied.
He paused, seemingly surprised at my young age. "I'm 25 years old, a bit older than you. I'm sorry about your parents; mine also left me a year ago."
"About the wedding..."
I was afraid it might trouble him: "It's okay! Even if we don't have a wedding, I won't mind!"
After all, escaping from there was the best thing that could happen!
"No... a wedding should still happen, just... it might be in places where humans gather more. Can you adapt?"
The fang tribe had always lived in the jungle, and because my parents didn't like contact with humans, we didn't often venture into human territories.
I didn't expect him to consider this: "It's okay! I don't mind."
He then asked me some other questions and briefly introduced his own situation.
Undeniably, Raymond was nothing like I imagined. He exuded gentlemanly manners and courtesy.
After about an hour's drive, I arrived at a seaside city, my first time seeing the sea. Naturally, I was surprised, rolling down the window to feel the salty sea breeze.
I had always lived in the jungle and only seen the sea on my phone.
"Do you like the sea?" Raymond asked me.
I couldn't help but nod, "It's my first time seeing the sea, it's truly beautiful."
The sunlight shimmered on the azure sea, reflecting a gem-like radiance.
"Then you'll probably like the new house I've prepared," Raymond finally smiled faintly.
He wore a mask, concealing his entire face from me, but the sensual lips and chin hinted at a handsome man. Raymond's villa was secluded from humans but close to the sea. He pressed a button on his wheelchair, signaling for me to follow him, pointing to a room on the second floor, "This is your room."
Surprised, I looked at him, "And where will you be?"
"I will be in the room opposite yours. In between is a study and entertainment room. If you need anything, feel free to instruct the servants. We don't have many rules here. Also, if you're ready, we will have the wedding in three days," Raymond replied with a smile before leaving in his wheelchair. I stood on the balcony on the second floor, waving at him as he departed.
He gave a faint smile and drove away.
Leaning on the balcony, feeling the sea breeze and the sound of the waves, everything felt like a dream.
Raymond's POV
Today is the day I fulfill my engagement. Although I don't want to, my parents made a blood oath that I must honor. I met my fiancée, with her golden-brown hair and a beautiful face, truly stunning. Her eyes resembled a captivating little fox, with a straight nose and sensual lips, akin to a blooming white lily in spring.
Innocent beauty.
As I took off my mask, the driver asked, "Leaving Luna alone in the villa, is that okay?"
"Return to the pack," I replied shortly, no longer desiring the previous pretense.
My pack was established on an island. I stood up from the wheelchair, this time even masking my pheromones with a special perfume. It wasn't to deceive the girl but due to my temporary lack of trust in her.
Upon seeing me, the pack's beta, Allen, quickly approached. I instructed him, "Prepare a wedding gown..."
Once again, thoughts of the girl came to mind. Despite being an omega with a weak wolf, her eyes held purity, intelligence, and determination.
Preferring to conceal her true thoughts, though the deception seemed childish and even... cute?
"Extravagant, expensive."
"The wedding should be... simple."
Kate's POV
For two whole days, I hadn't seen Raymond, but it was the most comfortable time I'd had in ages. No endless chores or enduring Beth's abuse and mockery.
I could sleep in as long as I wanted.
Oh, moon goddess, only you know how I endured the past year.
It was like living in hell.
But I couldn't remain idle. With newfound freedom, I could start investigating my parents' deaths.
In the villa, only Shay remained, the maid Raymond instructed to stay and look after me.
But I hoped she could become a friend, as I felt incredibly lonely.
Since I was no longer the alpha's heir, my old friends had distanced themselves from me.
Even my one true friend had been absent for a long time, as I hadn't returned to school in ages.
"Shay, I want to take a walk by the sea at noon! You don't need to prepare lunch for me," I happily told Shay in the bustling dining room.
"Understood, Miss Kate," she replied.
As I opened the door, I froze. Outside sat Raymond in his wheelchair, still wearing the golden mask.
"Oh... Mr. Raymond," I became tense.
"Are you going to the seaside?"
"Yes, sir."
"Let's go together," he said gently and politely.
"Allow me to push your wheelchair."
"Of course."
There were almost no humans or other werewolves around here, only the rustling of coconut trees in the wind and the sound of waves crashing on the beach.
"Are you getting used to it?" he asked me.
"It's wonderful here," I nodded sincerely.
"I'm glad you like it. I hope you're ready for the wedding tomorrow."
Actually, I don't really care about the plot of the wedding. I nervously asked, "Will Beth and her daughter also come?"
"Who?"
"The alpha of the fang tribe and her daughter."
"They need to be present," Raymond replied, seeming to sense my concern. He reassured me, "Don't worry, nothing unexpected will happen."
"Okay." I nodded, feeling more relaxed. After all, I had escaped from the fangs! What else was there to worry about?
When we returned to the villa in the evening, Shya had prepared dinner, enough for two.
Even dinner was my favorite, salmon.
I could hardly contain my smile.
Late into the night, I found Raymond hadn't left. "Sir, are you staying here tonight?"
"Yes, preparing for tomorrow's wedding," Raymond replied, holding a book in his hands. He nodded.
I felt uneasy. This was the first time I had spent time with Raymond. In the end, we were just strangers who had met two days ago.
"Don't worry, get some rest." He gently stroked my head.
After he left for his room, I breathed a sigh of relief. Raymond was truly different; he didn't seem like a rogue at all.
Late at night, unable to sleep, I decided to go downstairs for water.
"Still Awake?" Raymond's seductive voice startled me from behind, almost causing me to drop the glass in my hand.
"Sorry for scaring you," he apologized.
He was sitting in a wheelchair, seemingly downstairs for water as well, still wearing that mask on his face.
Had he been wearing it at home all this time?
I was concerned; I thought it must be uncomfortable. But I didn't know how to bring it up. When Raymond had the mask on, it was easy to imagine he was a handsome guy. But after his face was damaged, perhaps he didn't want others to mention it.
In the end, I didn't say anything.
I didn't want to inquire about Raymond's injury or anything else. Werewolves are creatures with strong self-esteem, and I didn't want him to misunderstand that I would mind.
"Cough." Raymond's voice brought me back, and he politely avoided eye contact.
I noticed my attire was quite revealing, a tank top and shorts, looking sexy. "Sorry, I forgot..."
"It's okay. Get some rest." He smiled lightly.
I hurried away, not paying attention to the table edge, and stumbled!
Damn it!
But the expected pain didn't come; I fell into warm arms.
To be precise, I fell into Raymond's arms. I could even smell his... but I couldn't quite identify the scent.
"Be careful." His voice resonated in his chest. Oh my! I was going crazy! How could his seductive voice be so close to me?
And I seemed to detect a faint, pleasant fragrance on him...
But soon, that fragrance was masked by something else.
"He feels like a mate to me, but it seems like an illusion," my wolf said to me.
Yes, when I was close to Raymond, I felt my heart race, my body react strangely.
But my wolf didn't signal he was my mate.
"What's wrong?" he asked again, and I quickly got up, almost running back to my room.
I didn't understand what was happening to me.
I hardly slept well all night.
I had many dreams, once again dreaming of the night my parents died in the fire, silver spikes piercing my father's chest, the ground covered in crimson blood.
His eyes stared wide at me, as if wanting to tell me something.
I woke up startled, only to dream again of the day Jason rejected me.
The mocking voices of those people surrounded me.
Finally, I saw Raymond in the wheelchair!
Wearing a mask, yet I felt his cold indifference. He said to me, "You don't deserve to be Luna!"
Once again, I woke up in a panic, the sky already getting light.
The horizon by the sea was tinted red by the sunrise.
For a moment, I couldn't distinguish between dream and reality. It was only when I saw myself in the mirror that I breathed a sigh of relief.
At eight in the morning.
Shia knocked on my door, "Miss Caitlin, your wedding dress is ready."
I opened the door to reveal a luxurious and stunning wedding dress, adorned with many tiny diamonds on the skirt, making it sparkle.
It had been a long time since I had seen such a beautiful gown.
"Mr. Raymond prepared it for you," Shia said as she laid the dress down, revealing a warm smile, "Do you need help?"
"That would be great! I can't manage to put on such a heavy dress," I said thankfully.
After changing into the dress and putting on makeup, I looked at myself in the mirror. The white wedding dress had a long train, with delicate golden rose accents at the chest.
With eyeshadow and eyeliner enhancing my eyes, they looked even more beautiful.
Sparkling.
The long dress accentuated my impressive figure, it was so magnificent and beautiful, making me shine like a gem.
"You look beautiful," Shia complimented me sincerely.
"Thank you." It had been a long time since I heard that word.
My parents used to praise me like this often, they made me feel confident.
The wedding was simple, held on the beach in front of the villa. When I arrived, it was beautifully decorated, a simple altar made of white gauze and white roses, with some desserts and food placed nearby.
There seemed to be a special witch's brew.
I didn't like that drink, bitter and sour.
"We didn't prepare much, hope you don't mind," Raymond wheeled himself over to me.
"Not at all! It's wonderful already!" I smiled sincerely, "Since my parents passed away, no one has ever prepared something so thoughtful for me."
"Caitlin!" Bella's sharp voice interrupted; I turned around to see her walking towards us hand in hand with Jason.
I suppressed my smile.
"Are you unhappy to see us?" Bella started accusing me arrogantly, "Don't forget, it was my family that took you in, otherwise, you would have become some alpha's bed slave long ago."
I saw Bella glance at me from head to toe, the familiar jealousy and resentment still evident in her eyes.
I still don't understand, weren't we friends once?
She has everything she wanted now.
Why does she still treat me this way?
"My wife is not unhappy, and she welcomes your presence," Raymond held my hand and said to Bella.
I was surprised and squeezed that warm hand back.
But... Jason's expression seemed odd.
Raymond turned to me, "The wedding is about to start..."
"Caitlin!" a voice of surprise and familiarity broke the tension, it was Eileen!
"Eileen!"
We embraced tightly, she was my best friend, and I hadn't seen her in a long time due to not attending school.
She was the daughter of the alpha of the Dogtooth clan.
"Is this your fiancé?" Eileen asked, seeing Raymond beside me.
"Yes, he is my husband, Raymond Black," I introduced.
Eileen pulled me aside and whispered, "Are Bella and them forcing you to marry this... uh, rogue, who has no clan, no fixed park, and can't even protect you if attacked by other werewolves?"
"Eileen, don't worry, I think Mr. Raymond is good."
Eileen's expression was complex, as if saying to me: you are such a fool!
"I'll tell you later, a lot has happened recently," I said to her.
The wedding soon began.
I stood at the altar, with many people below, many of whom were once members of my clan, but now they pledged allegiance to Bella's father, Joseph.
Their eyes were mocking, full of ridicule, as if they were all laughing at me, especially Bella, her gaze was all provocation and mockery.
They were all making a joke out of me marrying such a man.
Raymond said beside me, "Caitlin, if you want to back out, you still have a chance now, you can choose to run away."
Run away? Where could I go after that?
I shook my head, firmly holding his long and powerful hand, "No... I won't run away, you will be my husband."
I saw a hint of surprise in his emerald, green eyes.
Then, his sexy lips formed a gentle smile, "Okay."
The wedding went smoothly.
After the vows, we were supposed to kiss, but it was quite awkward considering we had only known each other for less than three days.
My face turned red; he was sitting in a wheelchair and couldn't stand up.
But I could, so I awkwardly leaned down and lightly touched his lips.
It was quick, and the warm sensation lingered for just a second.
I immediately stood back up.
My wolf inside me criticized: "Coward!"
I couldn't help but retort, "Do I have to bite his head off as well?"
However, that subtle feeling remained on my lips. I couldn't describe it, but when I kissed Raymond, my heart started racing uncontrollably.
I had felt something similar with Jason before, even more intense since we were mates. We were drawn to each other.
But... this time felt different.
This strange feeling was starting to bother me. Raymond wasn't my mate, so why was it like this?
Feeling shy, I heard Raymond chuckle softly.
My face grew even redder.
After everything ended, with music playing, everyone danced on the beach.
I sat by the beach; Raymond had left due to his leg pain.
Eileen sat next to me, "Have you told your grandmother about the wedding?"
My emotions sank. My grandmother was the only living relative I had left, chased out of the pack by Bella. She had also become a rogue, but she had started to lose her mind and couldn't recognize me anymore.
"No, I haven't seen her in a long time. I plan to talk to Raymond later and take him to meet my grandmother," I shook my head.
"Well... will you still go back to school? Without Bella, you should be able to graduate soon," Eileen mentioned our werewolf-specific school, Moon Goddess Academy, where we learned about werewolf history, shifting, and honed our abilities.
"My wolf is still weak," saying this, my mood sank. If my wolf remained weak, it meant I couldn't avenge my parents.
"Caitlyn," Jason called me.
I turned around, Bella wasn't with him. I sounded distant, "What's up?"
"I want to talk to you alone," Jason said.
Eileen, knowing some things about Jason and me, looked at Jason warily, "You should go find Bella now."
"I won't do anything to her! I just want to talk to her," Jason roared, exuding an alpha's dominance.
Eileen couldn't resist the powerful pressure.
I patted Eileen's shoulder, "It's okay."
Eileen looked at me with concern, "Call me if you need anything," then she left.
It was just Jason and me now, the waves crashing against the rocks making a sound.
"Do you really love him, Caitlyn?" Jason looked at me, his expression complex.
