If I could turn back time, I wouldn't have asked for that wish on my birthday.
It's not that I'm not grateful that my wish was granted. It's just that this is more torturous to my life, torturous to my psyche.
I want to run away.
However, I had nowhere to go from my home. A home that consisted of my parents, as well as my two older brothers. I was the last member in this harmonious family.
Ah, harmony ....
We only looked good to others. Behind their friendly smiles, we kept secrets. Secrets that I knew in silence. I kept it in my memory and only watched them act with each other.
Maybe to other people, my parents were a romantic couple. They didn't know that mom and dad actually had their own dark lovers. I had caught them in secret several times, making out with other people.
Meanwhile, my second brother, Carey, was secretly using drugs. I don't know where she got them from. If you rummage through her room, you're bound to find that forbidden packet.
But Carey knew that to escape the law, he stuffed the servants' mouths with money. Since they cleaned her room regularly, they were directly aware of the secret object being hidden.
In any case, Carey's brother is a pretty normal person to me compared to the first brother.
My first brother is named Calvin. There's not much I can describe about him, other than one word for him, psychopath.
Calvin wasn't just a psychopath. He was obsessed with me. It was his psychopathic nature that often gave me goosebumps. If likened to an animal, then a snake is the right form to describe him.
Calvin is poisonous. Deadly. But alluring.
With the level of good looks inherited from our father when he was young, he easily attracted women just by passing in front of them.
At first they were all indifferent and cold to me - who was still a child at the time. It made me feel disregarded and ignored by my own family. Even when I had a fever, only the servants took care of me.
Then, at the age of nine on that day, my close friend at school named Stephen, gave me a medium-sized cake cup complete with a small candle stuck in.
Stephen asked me to make a wish before blowing out the candle. I complied.
Do you know what I wished for before the candle flame went out?
I asked God for my entire family to love me very much.
It was a simple request, but I didn't expect it to be granted. I was happy at first. However, the older I grew, the more my mind developed that I began to regret that request.
"Clara, I have found your fiancé. You can talk to him the day after tomorrow to get to know him," I said today while we were having breakfast together.
"What!" exclaimed Carey, pounding the table.
"Dad! It hasn't been a month since she called off the engagement. Now you're already pitching her a new one?" protested Carey.
I thought my father was obsessed with getting me married to the man of his choice. Yet again and again it failed. Because I rejected those men. Last month's engagement cancellation was the fifth time.
Father also didn't force me to continue our relationship if I didn't like it. That's right, I didn't like it as a classic excuse. But there were other people involved in this arranged marriage.
Can you guess who?
Calvin.
"Okay, father. I'll have a meeting with him," I replied calmly. The calmness and smile on my face was a mere mask to hide my nervousness around Calvin who felt intimidating in his silence.
"Our sister is very obedient. I hope Clara won't be upset anymore," Calvin's heavy voice said.
All of my romantic hairs bristled when his voice wafted by the side of my ear, because he was sitting right behind me, holding me on the dining chair, in front of them.
I don't want to think you exist, Calvin! I wish too, that my fiancé-to-be could take me out of this house!
The day after tomorrow, come quickly!
I have to succeed in the engagement to get away from Calvin!
My name is Clara Jaromir. We are rich, but my life is not as happy as that of a princess at court.

After finishing the family dinner, I sat on the sofa in the living room to watch television. Suddenly Carey came to sit next to me.
"Are you sure you'll accept the engagement?" Calvin said, doubting me.
"Yes, I will accept it in my life."
"Well, hearing your answer, I'm getting suspicious, have you met her yet?" he asked quite naggingly.
"No, I don't even know her name let alone her face," I replied nonchalantly.
"Don't choose the wrong man. Remember, he will be your future. I don't agree if you don't love him and he doesn't love you back," Carey said.
Did you hear that? This man is the best second brother for me. He's a real big brother with all the natural attitudes towards younger sisters.
"Thank you for caring about me, brother. I know which man is good for my life. That's why I'm going to decide who I'm going to live with," I said while looking straight at the television screen.
"That's good. Don't sleep too late. I'm going to my room," Carey said, running a hand through my hair and leaving.
Meanwhile, I was still in front of the television. Watching my favorite romantic drama that airs every night. I didn't realize it was getting late, and the house was already quiet and dark.
I didn't care. Instead of going to my room to sleep, I continued watching while lying on the long sofa. Only the light from the television illuminated the room. Slowly, my eyes grew heavy and I started to fall asleep when I felt another movement on my couch.
Suddenly I was awake again. My life that was about to plunge into the world of dreams, now seemed to be sucked back into the real world. I found Calvin sitting on the edge of the sofa. "Don't sleep here," Calvin's heavy voice said.
This man is dangerous, my brain warned. But sleepiness overcame me, making me less wary of Calvin. I believed Calvin wouldn't be rude to me as long as I didn't make any mistakes. And since it's been a full day, I'm pretty confident that I haven't done anything to anger him. So I thought it was safe for now.
But it wasn't!
I gasped when I felt a gentle pressure on my lips. When my eyes flew open, Calvin's head blocked my view completely. He was kissing me!
I rebelled. Signaling him to break the kiss. Then Calvin moved his face away but didn't change his position near me. He rubbed my dry lip line while looking into my eyes with a dark gaze.
"These lips should not be taken by another man," Calvin said.
Then unexpectedly, he leaned down again and reached the full surface of my lips. I glared. Especially when we were 'tongue-tied' with Calvin's hot body on top of me. There was no reply from me other than being passive under his dominating pressure.
Calvin was as hard as steel and he didn't care how I rebelled. Because whatever form my resistance took in a situation like this, it meant nothing to Calvin, and only futility to me. It got to the point where I finally ran out of breath and started hitting him hard on the shoulder repeatedly.
Calvin slowly pulled himself up. Unlinked our lips, and a thin thread dangled to form a clear bridge that connected before breaking at our chins.
My breath hitched. I glared at Calvin. But he didn't seem to care whether I liked it or not. "Are you crazy? What if our parents find out!" I protested.
Calvin rubbed my chin gently. Then without answering me, he picked me up suddenly. "Put me down!" I kicked at the wind. Calvin ignored me. He carried me up to the second floor. When he walked past the door to my room, I thrashed around asking to be put down.
Where exactly was he taking me!
Once again, his rock-hard arms didn't react to my rebellion. Calvin carried me as if unperturbed by the weight in his hands.
"Brother, I'll scream!" I threatened.
"Go ahead and scream, let them know how you and I are," Calvin said with a smirk. I lost every time I argued with him. Every threat I made to him was like a passing wind.
This was so annoying!
Then Calvin opened the door, and I immediately knew where I was going. It was to his room! His room was at the end of the hallway and slightly separated from the hallway of other rooms.
As soon as the sound of the lock sounded, I got goosebumps instantly. Why did he have to lock the door!
"If I don't lock it, someone might sneak in without permission and interrupt our long night together," Calvin said as if he heard my inner voice. Then he laid me down on his bed. Instantly a cool scent was absorbed into my sense of smell.
Calvin's signature scent that made me feel comfortable.
The man then lay down beside me. He pulled my back close, holding me close with his strong arms reaching all the way around my back.
I knew Calvin wouldn't do anything more than that. I understood his nature. As long as I didn't invite his male side, then he remained a calm dog.
"Tonight you sleep in my room," Calvin said. He hugged my head to his neck.
"Why?" I asked.
"Just want to."
Then silence.
I thought she was asleep. So I closed my eyes, then the heavy voice came back. "Refuse the meeting the day after tomorrow. I don't approve of you hooking up with another man. You're still too young. Don't you want to spend your youth having fun?" Calvin said.
Having fun? I snorted. "How can I have fun with all my friends when you always forbid me to go out with them," I complained sarcastically at his words just now.
"I'm only forbidding you from playing with guy friends. I only forbid you from going out without me at night. All of my prohibitions are just to protect you from the jerks out there," Calvin explained in his gentle tone. If he had spoken using an understanding intonation, it always made me melt and become submissive to him.
So, who's the dog here?
"I'm old enough to be in a relationship with a man. The day after tomorrow I don't want to make father disappointed in me. I should at least meet what he's like," I said half sleepily.
I vaguely heard his voice say something before I actually fell into dreamland.
"So, you want me to do it, huh?"
***
One fine day, I was alone at home, while all my family went to work. It's times like these that I love the most. It made me feel like the sole owner of our luxurious mansion. The big mistress, perhaps.
The servants were working at their respective tasks. I had no intention of interrupting them just to beat the boredom. Sometimes I took a stroll around the house, the garden, until I stopped by the second floor library for a while.
I was so absorbed in reading a book that my instincts only just noticed the presence of someone behind me. It made me turn around and freeze in surprise to find out who it was.
Calvin. His tall stature loomed over me like a giant. Every time I saw him, I never felt calm.
"Are you home?" I asked in surprise.
"Yes, I came home early on purpose. Because I thought you'd be lonely at home," Calvin said.
"Of course not!" I snapped.
"Oh?" Calvin grinned, taking a step forward. Making me reflexively take a step back.
"Are you glad I'm not home?" he teased.
I couldn't escape. My back hit the bookshelf, and I was crushed by Calvin's large body from the front. "What does big brother mean? How could I be glad you're not around," I lied, forcing a smile onto my face.
"Hoo?" Then, he suddenly pulled my hand away. Calvin dragged me to sit on the sofa. He pulled my waist so that I was sitting on his thigh.
"I want to talk to you," Calvin said hugging my stomach, signaling me not to move much.
"So, talk," I said looking at him in surprise.
"I already know who will be your fiancé," Calvin said.
"So?" That wasn't strange to me anymore. He must have found out the ins and outs of every man who approached me like he had in the past.
"He doesn't deserve you."
And, as I expected, she would say it. I rolled my eyes in disgust. "All the guys I've been close to, too, you've always said he's not right for me. What's the reason this time?" I rested my chest. Waiting for Calvin's explanation for the assessment of my new fiancé-to-be.
"Anyway, he doesn't deserve your life. Only I can determine that."
"That's not the answer I want to hear," I snapped. This Calvin was selfish. "It's my life, I alone will decide the course of my life!" I was annoyed. I tried to get down. But Calvin's arm was so strong holding my stomach.
"Brother! Don't bother me reading!" I protested sullenly.
Suddenly my vision seemed to spin, Calvin pulled me up instantly and realized he was already on top of me lying on the library sofa. "If he proposes to you and you accept, I'll make sure your engagement is off, Clara," Calvin threatened.
I was used to getting this kind of threat from him. So I had no more fear than to just take his words with a grain of salt. "Yeah, yeah, only in your dreams," I retorted boredly. "I believe in father's choice. He's not just any man, that's for sure," I insisted.
"Clara."
I was stunned. The way he said my name sounded different. Her tone of voice was low.
I stared at his face in panic. Guessing what she would do after this.
"Do you know, I really hate all men who try to get close to you. I'll teach them an unforgettable lesson if they dare to take you away from me," Calvin said firmly. As firm as the look in my eyes staring at him sharply and seriously.
Calvin never played around with his own words. If left unchecked, he would get the better of me. "Stop meddling in my business. You should think about your own life. You should bring your woman home and introduce her to us!" I snapped boldly.
Instantly his grip tightened on both my wrists. I winced. Calvin held my hands next to my head so that I couldn't move freely under him.
I knew a man's strength was twice as strong as a woman's. And I often experienced pressure from him. Not only the pressure from his sharp mouth but also his physicality that made me helpless.
Suddenly Calvin lowered his body. "Obey me, then you won't have to get hurt later," Calvin said, further crushing my body and making me seem to be crushed by his giant stature. I was stunned when I felt a blunt object pierce my shaft just below my stomach.
My eyes bulged. I knew what it was.
Above my face, Calvin grinned crookedly. "Can you feel it?" he said lasciviously.
"Get away from me, Calvin! Damn it!" I shouted rebelliously. For the first time I shouted angrily in front of his face. Let it be. He should know that I can get seriously angry.
Once again, as I had not expected, my attempt to break free was unsuccessful. My strength could not make her release her grip.
My breath caught. This position was very uncomfortable. It felt so hard and as if it was trying to stab me, only to be blocked by our clothes.
Who would have thought that this situation would make me feel a hot sensation down there. I realized. My body can't understand what my brain is saying right now.
"Not until you promise me," Calvin said. His words seemed to give me some relief. But it still meant I would be shackled by him later.
I wanted to say something to him, but was afraid my voice would sound strange and he would laugh at me.
"What is it?" I asked after controlling my breathing heavily.
"Rejecting all the men father offered."
The terms sounded so simple.
"Alright, I'll reject them!" I gave in. He had to get away from my body before anything untoward happened.
I only made a verbal promise. Of course, I wasn't that agreeable to him, especially since this incident made me even more determined to leave home and rely on working with my future husband. After all, that man has to help me!
"I'll make sure he surrenders first before meeting you, Clara," Calvin said and then reached for my full lips.
