Author: : Moonlight Sky
Genre: Romance
Loraine was a dutiful wife to Marco since they got married three years ago. However, he treated her like trash. Nothing she did softened his heart. One day, Loraine got fed up with it all. She asked him for a divorce and left him to enjoy with his mistress. The elites looked at her like she was deranged. "Are you out of your mind? Why are you so willing to divorce him?" "It's because I need to return home to get a billion-dollar fortune. Besides, I don't love him anymore," Loraine replied with a smile. They all laughed at her. Some believed that the divorce affected her mentally. It wasn't until the next day that they realized she wasn't fibbing. A woman was suddenly declared the world's youngest female billionaire. It turned out to be Loraine! Marco was shocked to the bone. When he met his ex-wife again, she was a changed person. A group of handsome young men surrounded her. She was smiling at them all. The sight made Marco's heart ache severely. Putting his pride aside, he tried to win her back. "Hello, love. I see that you are a billionaire now. You shouldn't be with suckers who just want your money. How about you come back to me? I'm a billionaire too. Together, we can build a strong empire. What do you say?" Loraine squinted at her ex-husband with her lips curled in disgust.

Chapter 1 Marco Had Gone To A Hotel With His First Love

It was growing dark.

Loraine Torres paused in front of Room 5202, staring at the closed door.

Her thoughts were in turmoil.

"You're hideous! My brother and Keely are crashing in a hotel. You need to split from my brother ASAP. Don't stand in the way of their reunion..."

Recalling the phone call from her sister-in-law, Marina Bryant, Loraine felt both saddened and absurd.

Today marked the third anniversary of her marriage to Marco Bryant. Despite having a high fever, she had prepared a lavish dinner and awaited Marco's return with great anticipation.

But then she received news that Marco had gone to a hotel with his first love, who had just returned!

Despite this, she needed to see it for herself.

Once she had the hotel name and room number, Loraine hurried to the hotel.

Standing at the door, Loraine shook her head, trying to clear the dizziness.

She was unsure of what she would say or do upon entering the room...

It was clear only she was fully invested in their marriage, while Marco had never truly loved her; his heart always belonged to Keely Haywood.

Loraine was overwhelmed by a mix of emotions.

The pain, confusion, anger, and self-loathing tangled inside her, making it hard to breathe.

Dazed, Loraine pressed the doorbell.

It seemed the occupant was expecting her. As soon as she rang the bell, the door slowly opened.

A woman in a sexy night gown stood in the doorway.

Loraine recognized her instantly-it was Keely.

She was the woman Marina claimed Marco had loved for many years, who had left the country three years earlier due to an illness and had now returned...

Keely's expression hardly changed upon seeing Loraine.

She gave Loraine a cold up-and-down look.

Loraine's face was delicate, but now it was unusually red, and her eyes showed signs of severe fatigue, indicating she might be ill.

Keely smirked.

"Are you looking for Marco?"

Loraine pressed her lips together tightly. She was so overwhelmed with emotion that she couldn't speak for a moment.

Keely shot her a defiant and arrogant look.

"You should go back. Don't make a fool of yourself. Marco has only ever loved me, and you mean nothing to him. You've had him for three years. Now it's time to give him back to me."

Hearing this, Loraine felt as if her heart had been pierced by a knife, so painful that it was difficult to breathe.

Yet her pride would not allow her to display any weakness.

Loraine looked at the woman in front of her without any expression and responded icily, "Miss Haywood, don't forget that as long as we're still married, you are nothing more than a shameless mistress!"

Her words struck Keely hard, and Keely's face instantly contorted with anger.

Ignoring the furious Keely, Loraine pushed past her and entered the room.

As soon as she walked in, she heard the sound of water running in the bathroom.

This deepened the ache in Loraine's heart. She clenched her fists and fought through the pain.

Keely, stung by Loraine's words, didn't halt.

She caught up with Loraine and stood in front of her, her voice dripping with sarcasm.

"Loraine, why are you so stubborn? Let me tell you, I'll have you divorced in no time."

Loraine was upset and didn't grasp what she meant.

Suddenly, Keely grabbed a fruit knife from the table.

She looked at Loraine and then plunged the knife into her own belly without a second thought.

"Are you insane?"

Loraine felt a sense of dread.

Panicked, she tried to restrain Keely by grabbing her wrist.

Unexpectedly, Keely shook off her grasp.

During the struggle, the sharp knife slashed Loraine's arm, and blood immediately began to flow.

Loraine cried out in pain, and the intense pain forced her to let go.

Seizing the moment, Keely stabbed herself in the abdomen.

Under Loraine's shocked gaze, Keely managed a triumphant smile.

Then, Keely called out loudly towards the bathroom.

"Marco, help! Loraine is trying to kill me!"

Loraine's eyes widened in shock, and just then, the bathroom door burst open.

Marco emerged in his bathrobe.

He saw Loraine, her arm bleeding heavily, and then Keely, also bleeding from her abdomen, and his face filled with fury.

Loraine tried to speak, but the high fever and the loss of blood from her arm overwhelmed her, and she collapsed into a pool of her own blood.

Before losing consciousness, Loraine saw Marco ignore her completely, quickly lift Keely, and rush out, leaving her lying on the cold floor surrounded by bright red blood...

Chapter 2 You Owe Her A Kidney

In the hospital ward, Loraine was roused from unconsciousness by the incessant ringing of a phone.

She opened her eyes to find herself on a hospital bed.

Loraine was experiencing a severe headache and felt very weak.

The persistent ringing of her phone in her bag irritated her. With great effort, she reached for it, only to see that her mother-in-law was calling.

She hesitated briefly before hanging up.

However, her mother-in-law called again without pause.

Left with no other choice, Loraine answered the call.

Sharp criticism burst forth from the other end as her mother-in-law berated her. "Loraine, where are you? You haven't returned home to cook yet. Are you having an affair?"

Since Loraine remained silent, her mother-in-law continued to hurl insults. "What a failure you are! It's been three years, and you still haven't given me a grandchild! Now, you can't even manage household duties. I'll have my son divorce you soon enough!"

Loraine felt a tumult of emotions at her mother-in-law's harsh words.

Over the past three years of her marriage to Marco, she had been treated like a servant by his family. She endured not only Marco's coldness but also constant criticism from his mother and sister. They treated her worse than they would a regular servant.

Recalling the events of the previous night, Loraine felt she was on the brink of breaking down.

Facing the unreasonable criticism from Marco's mother, Loraine voiced her thoughts for herself for the first time.

"The Bryant family has so much money. Why not hire a chef? Instead of making me cook every day? Are you saving all that money for a coffin?"

Marco's mother was livid upon hearing Loraine's response.

"How dare you speak to me like that! I'm going to teach you a lesson today..."

But Loraine didn't give her the chance to continue. She hung up the phone firmly and blocked her number.

Just then, the door to the ward was abruptly pushed open.

Marco's sister, Marina, barged in with a group of bodyguards.

She looked at Loraine with fury and accused her sharply. "Loraine, you're so cruel! You're trying to kill Keely! Now that her kidney is damaged, you owe her a kidney! And I'm going to make sure you go to jail for this. You will pay for what you've done!"

What?

Stunned, Loraine struggled to sit up and replied, "I didn't do it!"

No sooner had Loraine finished her sentence than the bodyguards behind Marina stepped forward and tried to drag Loraine to the operating room.

Loraine panicked and resisted as much as she could.

At that moment, Marco appeared at the door of the ward.

He was tall, with striking features, looking both strong and handsome.

His expression was cold, and his eyes conveyed a mix of emotions.

Loraine looked at him as if he were her last hope.

"Listen to me, Marco. I didn't harm Keely. She did this to herself..."

"Loraine, why did you come to the hotel?"

Marco did not allow her the opportunity to clarify. He interrupted her abruptly and posed a question.

Before Loraine could respond, Marina interjected, "Marco, Loraine doesn't trust you. She had people tailing you."

This revelation stunned Loraine.

She looked at Marco and noticed a flicker of disdain in his gaze.

"I thought you were reasonable, but I didn't expect that you would stoop so low."

Hurt by Marco's judgment, Loraine felt a deep sense of irony and despair.

She realized that no explanation would sway Marco's opinion, because his affections were set on Keely, not her.

Knowing this, Loraine refrained from explaining her presence at the hotel, aware that he would dismiss whatever she said.

Facing Marco, Loraine expressed a mixture of sadness and resentment.

"Do you take pride in your unfaithfulness?"

Marco's expression tightened at Loraine's sarcastic tone.

The previous night, after he had accidentally spilled red wine on himself while dropping off Keely at the hotel, he had taken a shower there before meeting a friend. How could that be unfaithfulness?

He looked at Loraine, his displeasure clear. Although he was upset by the misunderstanding, he felt no need to justify himself.

With a cold stare, he addressed her sternly. "Loraine, I have no interest in your excuses. If you've done wrong, you must face the consequences. You owe Keely an apology."

Loraine felt a sharp pain in her heart upon hearing this.

"An apology won't suffice," Marina, standing nearby, said. "Keely's kidney is damaged, and Loraine must compensate with one of her own!"

Marina's fervor grew as she spoke.

"Why are you all just standing there? Seize her! Take her to surgery!"

The bodyguards quickly closed in on Loraine, restraining her arms and legs.

Weakened by injury and a high fever, Loraine lacked the strength to resist.

In a moment of desperation, she looked at Marco and asked in a shaky voice, "Marco, do you believe me?"

She hoped her husband would intervene.

To her dismay, Marco merely stood by passively, seemingly approving Marina's actions.

Loraine's heart sank as she observed his detached expression.

She attempted to struggle and asked, "Marco, are you really going to let them take my kidney for Keely?"

Marco's face showed a mix of emotions.

He faced Loraine and said with a tone of resignation, "You are in debt to Keely. Don't worry, I will make it right with you later."

Loraine felt as if her heart had been pierced by a knife, despair filling her eyes.

It became clear to her that her sacrifices over the past three years had culminated in nothing but a farcical marriage.

With a heavy heart, she inhaled deeply, withstood the emotional pain, and gave a bitter smile.

"Marco, I want a divorce."

The word "divorce" darkened Marco's expression.

He believed that Loraine, usually so compliant, was demanding a divorce merely to shirk her responsibilities.

Marina scoffed at the idea. "A divorce? Sure, but not before you provide Keely with a kidney."

Unable to tolerate the relentless oppression any longer, Loraine felt a surge of anger and suddenly found the energy to free herself from the bodyguards.

She made a dash for Keely's room.

Worried that Loraine might create a disturbance, Marco hurried after her to Keely's room.

Loraine burst through the door. Upon seeing her, Keely feigned terror, looking pitiful as she lay in bed.

Marco positioned himself at the foot of the bed and shouted angrily, "Loraine, this is too much! Kneel down and apologize right now!"

Chapter 3 I Want A Divorce

The tension in the hospital room was palpable.

Keely shot Loraine a defiant, complacent look, expecting her to kneel.

Disappointed deeply by Marco, Loraine reached her limit. With a swift motion, she slapped Keely across the face.

The sharp sound of the slap echoed like thunder, breaking the heavy silence.

Before the shock could wear off, Loraine yanked back the quilt, and tore away the gauze from her abdomen.

Beneath the gauze lay not the expected severe injury, but merely a minor scar, far from needing any kidney surgery.

Marco's face darkened.

Loraine scoffed, "Miss Haywood, why didn't you stab yourself in the back? Wasn't it more convincing? Or was that beyond your capabilities?"

Suspicion clouded Marco's gaze.

Loraine had speculated that Keely's deceit wouldn't extend to inflicting serious harm upon herself.

Her suspicions proved correct as the injury was clearly overstated.

Startled by Loraine's assertiveness, Keely quickly re-covered the gauze and turned to Marco for support.

"Marco, you must believe me. It was Loraine who stabbed me."

Marco's face hardened with doubt. "I will find out the truth. If you are innocent, you will be compensated."

Desperation crept into Loraine's voice.

Looking at Marco, she realized her heart no longer held hope.

"I just want a divorce. I don't want anything else."

Hearing this, a sly smile flickered across Keely's face.

A divorce would bring her a step closer to becoming Marco's wife.

Meanwhile, Marina, who had arrived in haste, grew excited at Loraine's request for a divorce.

"Marco, please agree to the divorce."

Marco stared at Loraine, baffled by the drastic change in his once compliant wife.

But Loraine, feeling dizzy, walked away with firm resolve, not even sparing Marco a glance.

Marco started to follow, but Keely clutched her abdomen with one hand and grasped his arm with the other, holding him back.

"Marco, my belly hurts."

Instinctively, Marco stayed behind to support Keely, letting Loraine walk away.

At the hospital gate.

"Loraine!"

Just as Loraine was about to hail a taxi, she heard Marina's voice behind her.

Marina caught up to Loraine and taunted her viciously. "Loraine, did you see that? My brother cares for Keely so much. You should know your place. You're not even fit to be our servant. If it weren't for my grandma's wish for a grandchild, my brother wouldn't have married you. Now that you've asked for a divorce, stay away from my brother and stop pestering him."

Her words sliced through Loraine's heart.

Overwhelmed with anger and unable to hold back any longer, Loraine slapped Marina across the face.

"Learn to respect others! I'll teach you that lesson!"

Marina was stunned by the slap.

She stared at Loraine in disbelief, her face a mask of shock. This woman, who had always seemed so patient and meek, had actually hit her.

Fuelled by her anger, Marina lost her composure and shoved Loraine, who was dizzy from a high fever. Loraine stumbled, nearly falling.

Just then, a strong arm reached out and steadied her just in time.

Loraine turned her head weakly to see the man who had helped her.

"Uncle..."

Recognizing him, she whispered his name and then fainted from exhaustion.

Marina, too angry to notice the quiet exchange, pointed at Loraine and screamed, "You bitch! How dare you betray my brother?"

The man's face hardened.

He secured Loraine and without hesitation faced Marina.

Marina's cheek stung from another forceful slap.

Holding her face, Marina looked up into the man's stern eyes, her body frozen with fear.

Without another word to Marina, the man carried Loraine in his arms, shot Marina a cold glance, and walked away.

He carried Loraine to a black Lincoln parked nearby, leaving a shaken Marina behind.

How had Loraine come to be involved with this man?

His commanding presence indicated he was no ordinary individual.

What exactly was their relationship?
