Kiara POV
I was sitting in my room when there was a knock on the door. Mom came inside; she was fully dressed and had a bag in her hand as if she was going outside. She came and sat beside me on the bed.
" Kiara, I am going outside. Do you want to come with me? I can't wait for you to get ready. We will enjoy it," Mom said, placing her hand on my shoulder.
"No, Mom, I don't want to. You can go," I replied coldly, not feeling like going outside to meet her friend.
"Um, okay. I will not force you, baby, but have lunch on time," she replied before leaving the room.
I looked in her direction until she left.
"Great, Mom. I know where you must be going," I said to myself, wiping the tears that were continuously coming from my eyes.
"Be strong, Kiara," the words of my dad echoed in my ears.
[Flashback]
"I can't live with you like that. I need a divorce!" Mom shouted, and Dad replied, "Mimi, what are you saying? Try to understand me."
But it all went in vain. Mom did not want to understand him; she shouted back at him, "You can't force me to live with a loser like you. Leave me!"
"Mom, please don't say that. We both love you. Don't leave us," I pleaded.
"Kiara, don't speak between. It's not your matter!" Mom shouted at me and went to her room.
"Dad, what will happen? Will Mom leave us?" I asked, looking at him. I found him holding his heart tightly, struggling to stand straight.
I ran towards him, held him, and shouted, "Dad, are you okay?" I made him sit on the sofa, fetched a glass of water from the kitchen, and made him drink it. Then I ran towards Mom's room, knocked on the door, and said hurriedly, "Mom, please come. Dad's condition is not good. He is lying on the sofa."
"Okay, come with me," Mom said, and we went to the living room where Dad was lying on the sofa, helpless.
Mom tried to wake up Dad while I called the ambulance. The ambulance arrived, and we made Dad lie on the stretcher. The ambulance driver helped us get him inside, and we reached the hospital. The doctor took him to the ICU. After some time, the doctor came out from the ICU.
I ran towards the doctor and asked with teary eyes, "Doctor, what happened? Is my dad okay?"
"He had a heart attack. His condition is not good; he is unconscious. We are trying our best. The next 12 hours are very important for him. Pray for him," the doctor suggested before going to his room.
I looked at Mom, hoping to see her looking at me with pure shock. I sat on a nearby chair, frustrated, holding my head while tears continuously dropped from my eyes. Mom came towards me and sat on a chair beside me.
"Kiara, don't worry. He will be okay. Don't cry," she said with no emotion, she doesn't seem to be disheartened.
What can I expect from her?
"Mom, why did you hurt him? Look at his condition. It's because of you he had a heart attack. Mom, are you listening to me? He is in danger and you don't seem to care. He might be a loser to you but you should remember that he is your husband and he is my father." Tears rolled down my cheek as I spoke. I was so hurt by Mom's behavior, she acted as if we weren't talking about her husband here.
"Ma'am, this is a hospital. Please don't shout here," the nurse said to me as she passed by. I didn't know I was shouting when I spoke, I already lost control of myself.
I turned my face in another direction while Mom took a cell phone from her bag and went outside the hospital.
"Still, she doesn't care for him," I said while looking at her walking outside.
After some hours, I was sitting on the chair, leaning my head against the wall, with my eyes closed. Mom was sitting beside me.
"Who is Kiara?" the nurse asked me.
"I am Kiara" I replied to the nurse.
"Your dad woke up and he wants to see you. Come with me," the nurse said. I stood up from my chair and followed her to his room eagerly, I had been expecting him to wake up since.
After she opened the door, I went inside Dad's room.
"Kiara," Dad looked at me and called out my name, he sounded weak and his face was deprived of any color.
"Yes, Dad, I'm here," I said, walking towards his bed. I sat beside him and held his cold hand. "Dad, you'll be alright, don't worry," I said, holding his hand.
"Kiara, I don't know if I will be with you or not, but you have to promise me. You will take care of yourself, no matter if I am with you or not. And you will not leave your mom, ever. Promise me, Kiara," Dad said, tears visible in his eyes. He tried so much to hide it but I already saw it, my heart hurt so much.
"Dad, don't say that. We will go home. Don't say that," I tried to clean his tears but he wanted me to give answers to his words.
"Kiara, first promise me," he insisted.
"Okay, Dad, I promise I will take care of myself and won't leave Mom alone," I said with a light smile, wiping tears from Dad's cheek.
"My brave Kiara, good girl," he replied with a smile.
"You still care for her. What has she ever done for you, why Dad, why?" I asked again, I hated that Dad cared so much so much even though she didn't care much.
"Kiara, forget what happened. You have to care for her and be on her side. What she had done was maybe not only her fault," he replied again, he was trying to convince me but I was strong-headed.
"What do you mean by that, Dad?" I asked him again, I was curious to understand what he meant. He sounded as if he was the one at fault.
Dad groaned while holding his chest.
I got even more worried when I saw him holding his chest, "Dad, are you okay?"
"Kiara, my time has come. You take care of yourself and your mom," he replied slowly.
"Dad, you have to fight. You can't leave us like this," I said as he struggled to breathe, I was in a panic. Uncontrollable tears started rolling down my cheeks.
"Kiara, baby, don't cry. You have to be strong. You have to live happily after me. Don't cry," he said to me as I shook my head in disappointment.
"Dad, I can't lose you, Dad. You will be alright, I know, and then we will live together. Wait, I am calling the doctor," I said to him, trying to stand up.
After some time, the doctor came to check on Dad. His eyes were fully closed, and he was breathing with struggle. The line of Dad's heartbeat went straight, and his breath stopped.
"Doctor checked him for some time and turned towards me.
"He is no more," the doctor said, placing his hand on my shoulder.
Kiara POV
I looked at him in shock, trying to understand what he had said.
"What?" I asked him again.
"We had tried our best, but he is no more," the doctor replied and went out of the room.
I knelt on my knees, crying hard, I could see my whole world shattering in front of me. He was the only person I could consider as a family, and I was informed that he was no more.
[End of flashback]
After having lunch, I was working on my laptop. After Dad passed, I left my job. I was an assistant at an advertising company, but I lost interest in going outside. I used to stay at home, not wanting to meet anyone except my friends Luna and Jade. They both helped me a lot during my hard times when there was no one to understand or listen to me.
After working for some hours, I went downstairs to the kitchen to grab a coffee for myself when I heard the door opening. It was already evening. I looked towards the door and saw Mom coming home with shopping bags in her hand. She placed them on the floor before closing the door behind her.
She smiled at me, "Kiara, you should have come with me. We had a lot of fun today," she said, coming towards me.
I hated that smile of hers so much, but I had to live with it. "No, Mom, I don't want to," I replied, trying to evade her questions.
" Kiara, I bought this for you. Take it," she said, giving me a shopping bag from her hand.
Of course, I wouldn't collect anything from her, "It's okay, Mom, I'm good," I replied.
But she insisted that I take it.
I took it from her hand, and after making coffee, I went to my room. I placed the shopping bag on my side table and sat on my bed. I took my phone from the bed and called Luna. She picked up my call after a few rings.
"Hello, Kiara, how are you, girl?" she asked me.
"I'm good. How are you, Luna?" I asked her.
Luna sounded angry from the other end of the call, "I'm very bad and very angry because of you," she replied dramatically.
"Really? What did I do?" I asked her, surprised.
"You promised me last week that we would meet this week, but I know you already forgot. I know," she said, pouting.
"Yes, I remember, but I just don't feel like going. I'm sorry. Can we make it for next week?" I asked her, already knowing her answer.
She gave me a warning, "My Kiara, you better come tomorrow for lunch. I will not hear any excuses again. Do you understand?" she asked me in a strict tone.
I laughed at her stubborn behavior and replied, "Okay, I will think about it, Luna."
" Kiara, please be my old Kiara. I miss you," she suddenly said in a genuine voice.
I could understand where she was coming from, "Luna, I am already your old Kiara, your best friend," I replied to her.
"No, Kiara, I am talking about the childish, joyful Kiara who lives every minute of her life happily and cheerfully," she said.
I was not ready for the topic, "I don't know, Luna. Okay, enough of your lecture. We will meet tomorrow at lunch, okay?" I replied, trying to change the topic.
"Really? Okay, then I am telling Jade too. She will be there too. It will be fun. Okay, bye!" she replied excitingly.
"Okay," I replied, and we hung up the call.
The next day, I was getting ready for lunch with Luna and Jade. After taking a shower, I wore a light pink frock top with white pants and white sneakers. I did light makeup. I was getting ready when my phone rang. I saw the caller ID; it was Jade's call.
I picked up her call and answered, "Yes, Jade?"
Jade sounded excited, "Are you ready, Kiara? I am coming to pick you up," she asked.
"Yes, I am ready. You can come. I am waiting," I replied.
"Okay, I will be there in two minutes," she replied, and we hung up the call.
After some time, Jade arrived to pick me up. I went to her car and sat beside her in the passenger seat. And She drove off to the restaurant.
After entering, I saw Luna sitting at the third table. She waved her hand, looking at me. We saw her and went to her.
She stood up from her chair and came towards me, pulling me into a hug. "How are you, Kiara?" she asked, breaking the hug.
"I am good. How are you?" I asked her politely.
"You know how happy I am seeing you here. We are meeting after 6 months. I am very happy for you," she replied, smiling.
I could see the happiness in her eyes.
After sitting at our table, Jade said," Kiara, you have to meet with us often, okay?" Jade asked me in a strict tone.
I had missed her strict tone, She's always like that, while Luna is like my sister. We call Jade our grandma because she always gives us orders and advice.
"Sure, grandma," I replied to her with a bright smile.
She smiled back at me.
"Jason is having a party tomorrow. It would be great if you both also came there," Jade suggested. I looked at Luna, finding her looking at me, waiting for my answer.
I don't like to associate much with the outer world, so they were already aware of my answer. "Jade, I don't think so I will be able to come," I replied to her, knowing her reply.
"You have to come, Kiara, or else we both are not going also," she replied, making a pout.
Luna second it while staring straight into my eyeballs, "Yes, Kiara, I would also not go if you will not be there."
"Why is he giving a party? Tomorrow is not his birthday," I asked Jade.
"Yes, he got a big contract, that's why he is so happy," Jade replied.
"Okay, I will think about that," I replied, finding both their faces happy.
"When Kiara said she would think about that, it means yes," Luna said to Jade with a high five, laughing. They both knew that I wouldn't want to reject them and my answers has always been yes when I say I will think about it.
"Okay, I will text you the details," Jade replied.
"Now, can we order something? I am starving," I said making faces, they both chuckled seeing me trying to get back to my old self.
After having lunch, I went home with a cab. After going inside, I was going to my room when I heard a noise from the living room. I went there, and when I opened the door, I saw Mom sitting with her friends. They all looked at me suddenly. I was even more shocked to see them at our home at this time of the day, we were staring at ourselves without speaking.
Kiara POV
"Come in, Kiara, sit with us," Mom's best friend, Olive, said. She's been Mom's best friend for the past 12 years. She is so arrogant and rich. I don't like her nature, but I didn't want to be rude to them.
I nodded and went inside.
A lady with blonde hair spoke, "How are you, Kiara?" I didn't know her, maybe she was Mom's new friend.
"I am good, how are you?" I said, trying to smile at her, I was finally able to bring myself to smile at her but they found out that it was not genuine.
"But you are not looking good, Kiara. Look at yourself, you are looking pale and dull. Are you still in shock from your dad's passing? Get rid of it," aunty Olive said, making me look at her.
I knew she would say something like that.
"What are you doing nowadays?" the blond-haired aunty asked again.
"She is working from home," Mom replied to her with a smile.
"Good, then you should be busy," the aunty replied. I smiled at her.
"I have some work to do," I replied to her and went to my room. After taking a shower, I started working on my laptop.
When I got a call, I saw the caller ID; it was Jason's call. Jason is Jade's boyfriend. I met Jason through Jade; he is like my elder brother. He is a very kind-hearted person.
Jason's POV:
I was working in my office when my phone rang. I saw the caller ID; it was Jade.
"Yes, love," I replied to her while placing my pen on the table.
"Jason, I had invited Kiara to the party," she said. "She will come," Jade said excitedly.
I was surprised when I heard that, I wasn't expecting Kiara to agree to be at my party. If not that I heard it from Jade, I wouldn't have believed it. "Really? I can't believe it. I will ask her myself," I replied to her.
"Okay, then call her. You will believe after listening to her," Jade said before hanging up. After the call, I dialed Kiara's number.
She picked up the call after a few rings.
"Hello, Jason, how are you?" she asked.
"I am good, Kiara. I heard you will come to my party tomorrow, is that right? I wanted to hear it from you," I asked her.
"Yes, I was thinking about it too, since Jade and Luna insisted I come," she replied.
I know that she might change her mind, but if everyone insisted on her coming she would have no other choice than to come. "You have to come, Kiara. Now, I am saying, okay? I promise you won't be bored," I assured her.
"Okay, I will be there. Now, happy?" she replied with a smile.
"Great, then. See you tomorrow. Take care," I replied and hung up the call.
After Kiara's call, I started working on my laptop. When a message popped up on my phone.
Kiara's POV:
The next day, I was having breakfast with Mom when Mom said, " Kiara, I am going shopping. Do you want to come with me?" She asked while taking a sip of her coffee.
"No, Mom, I don't want to. I am going with Jade or Luna," I replied, I was wondering in my mind where she was off to again. She went shopping yesterday and I'm very sure that she was using that as a cover.
"Really? Good, then you should go and chill, okay?" Mom said with a smile.
I smiled back at her.
It was already evening, so I decided to get ready for the party. After showering, I wore a white top with white jeans. After applying light makeup, I was ready to go. Luna would be there to pick me up. After some time, Luna arrived, and we went together to Jason's home.
Upon reaching, I saw Jade's car arriving at the same time. Jade came out of her car, and we met her. After that, the three of us went inside.
"Wow, Jason has amazing preparations as always," Luna said, looking at Jason's big house and the arrangements.
Jade was happy to hear that, "My rich boy," Jade said dramatically. Luna and I laughed at her.
We were walking when Jason came in our direction with a bright smile.
"Good evening, ladies," Jason said while coming toward us.
"Good evening," we replied.
Jason hugged his girl before walking us in, "Come inside," Jason said, walking towards his living room.
There, Jason's friends were already enjoying themselves. We went to the couch and sat there.
"I will get something for us," I said.
I decided to get something for us, so I asked Jade and Luna, for what they would like to have. I left there after that.
As I was heading to the dining table, I heard the horn of a Porsche car. I turned towards the sound and saw a black Porsche car stopped in front of Jason's mansion. I looked there, while I looked in the car's direction, a tall man with a muscular body and blond hair stepped out from the black Porsche car. He came towards Jason, who was standing near the gate.
The man hugged Jason tightly, and they started a conversation. After some time, I went to the dining table, took three glasses of apple juice, and went inside the living room. After giving them the juice glasses, I excused myself, saying I was going to the restroom, and went outside.
We sat on the comfy couch, enjoying Jason's cozy party. The room was full of laughter and happy voices as everyone had fun. Luna leaned back, sipping her drink. "Jason throws great parties," she said with a smile, looking around at the decorations.
"Yeah, everything looks awesome," I agreed, checking out the colorful lights and decorations.
Jason came over, grinning. "You having fun, ladies?" he asked, looking excited.
"Sure we are! " I said, smiling back, I knew that he had his eyes on me.
"Your party rocks!" Luna added. Jason nodded happily and went back to mingle with the guests.
As the music played and the party continued, I thought about the black Porsche parked outside. He seemed to be the life of the party, surrounded by giggling girls wherever he went. He chatted easily with everyone, especially the girls, who couldn't get enough of him.
It was like he was used to all the attention and enjoyed it. I decided to ask Jason about him. After coming from the restroom, I saw Jason standing in the corner, looking into his phone. I leaned towards Jason.
"Hey, Jason," I began. He looked at me. "Who's the guy with the Porsche? I didn't see him before," I asked, looking at the boy surrounded by many girls.
