My Mistake

The phone rang for the second time . Aria groaned as she rolled on her bed, she had a long day at work and she had barely slept for two hours.

she could hardly open her eyes let alone look for her phone in the messy room.

The phone rang for the third time and this time Aria knew she could not ignore it.

Sighing, she picked her phone cursing the person responsible for disturbing her sleep.

"Hello", Aria answered rubbing her eyes.

"Doc Aria west". A low voice hissed at the other side.

Aria eyes widened Soon after hearing her name, she jumped off the bed and immediately responded to the call.

"Doc Davis Martin," she said, now completely alert.

"Doc Aria west get your ass to the hospital right now." Dr Davis shouted making Aria thought run wild, she wondered what she has done wrong this time.

"Yes Doctor." Aria answered while searching for her shoe.

Aria and Davis were good friends.The usual gentle and charming Doctor only shouted when there is any serious emergency.

Aria had laid on her bed as soon as she entered her room, so she was still dressed in the clothes she wore for work, she took off at once saying goodbye to her sleep.

Within 15 minutes Aria had reached the hospital, the scene she encountered at the hospital shocked her to the core.

The hospital was crowded with reporters and several bodyguards were trying to stop them from rushing inside.

Aria had to push herself through the crowd to get inside but was soon stop by one of the bodyguards.

"I am sorry, madam. No reporter is allowed inside." Although he was polite,he was quite terrifying,he was huge and Aria barely reached his shoulder.

Aria wonder which important person was admitted in the hospital that manage to attract the press.

"Let me in, Mister. I am a Doctor here." Aria said showing him her ID card.

Aria's phone rang at that moment, she immediately answered the call glaring at the guard.

"Hello... Where are you?" Davis asked.

"I'm right in front of the hospital, the guards are not allowing me in Dr Davis. I'll come in a minute". she answered immediately.

The guards eyebrows rose as soon as he heard the name Dr Davis.

" Are you a Doctor." He asked doubtfully.

"Yes. You can confirm it." Aria replied folding her hands.

" No I believe you, you can go in." The hefty man replied making way for her.

Aria bolted inside, what the hell is happening she exclaimed looking at the ruckus inside the hospital.

" Thank goodness you are here, Dr Aria. Dr Davis is going all bonkers.you are required at the operating theater right now."The receptionist said when she was Aria.

Aria walked as fast as she could to the OT, she saw Davis talking to some doctor.

"Doc Aria west, come here,we have an emergency,we have a very important patient he has been shot and the bullet is very close to the heart." Doc Davis told Aria all she needs to know.

"We need to operate right now, everybody prepare for the surgery. Dr Aria you will be my assistant." Davis ordered.

"Oh my God Dr Davis is scary when he is

angry."

"I have never seen him like this before."Aria heard the other doctors exclaim in the dressing room.

"Who could this patient be." One among the doctors asked.

"I heard that the patient and Doc Davis are friends since childhood." The other doctor replied.

'No wonder Davis is being demanding.' Aria thought.

After some few minutes every one asemble in front of the OT in their surgical uniform.

"Alright everyone, let's start the surgery. Be careful everyone, no mistake are appreciated.I think you all know how important the patient life is. Remember who he is,we are all dead meat,if anything happens to him." Davis warned.

His words made Aria confused, confusion was written all over her face, making Davis to ask.

"Any questions, Dr Aria?"

"uhmm, Yes. Who is the patient?" She asked.

All the people looked at her flabbergasted, like she has grown two head's.

" Don't you know who the patient is, Dr Aria?" Nurse James asked in disbelief .

"No." Aria said.

Davis rubbed his forehead before taking a deep breath " It's Nelson Charles.

​"Nelson Charles." The name sounds familiar.

she realized that the patient was the only king of the business world,who was more powerful than the president himself.

The team walked inside the operation theater with Aria lagging behind.

she took a look at Nelson, he looked pale and worn out yet he was breathtakingly handsome, he was already induced with anesthesia and was unconscious.

Even in his unconscious state, there was a terrifying aura around him, causing Aria to shiver.

Davis monitored his blood pressure before instructing the nurse to control the air way for inducing more anesthesia.

The surgery has been in progress for four hours, although the bullet was removed,a fragment was still to be removed, the bullet had fragmented into two pieces, making the operation risky to perform.

Danm it, Davis gritted his teeth, the fragment has moved closer to the heart leading to severe hemothoxal,his heart beat has reduced drastically.

We are losing him, Aria, control the bleeding, Davis ordered, sounding upset.

"Yes Doctor. Sweat trickled down Aria's forehead, the lack of sleep was making her lose concentration. Nevertheless, she tried to focus. A life was at stake.

After an hour of intense struggle, Davis was able to remove the fragment, and the bleeding reduced.

Although Nelson heart beat was still low,he had passed the critical stage.

Aria immediately took over,stiching the cut, and thus finishing the open heart surgery.

Mr Charles is out of danger, we'll keep him under observation for now, Davis said with a hint of appreciation.

Everyone heaved a signed of relief,it was the hardest surgery ever, thank heavens they were not going to die today, was the thought on everyone's mind.

"Oh God, the surgery tried me out completely." The nurse cried out sitting on the nearest Bench.

"I swear." Another male nurse agreed, leaning against the wall for support.

"I wonder how Dr Aria is doing, this is her second surgery in a day. She must be utterly drained." Nurse James said.

Davis overhead their talk and was filled with quilt immediately,he felt sorry for Aria. He promised him self to make it up to her.

Aria dragged herself towards the changing room, the 9 hours surgery had exhausted her completely.

Davis was waiting for her outside the room,he had returned to his usual gentle self.

"you look like shit." He exclaimed in horror.

" I know, thanks for the compliment anyway." Aria whispered.

"I'm sorry Aria. The surgery was important and you are the only one I could think of in assisting me." Davis said.

"It's fine. Now I'm off to get some much needed sleep." Aria said walking pass him.

"That's not possible Aria." Davis stated making Aria turn back.

"Nelson is your patient now. Aria it's your duty to monitor him regularly." Davis said.

"what do you mean? I haven't had any good sleep for the past two days now." Aria replied.

"I know Aria. I'm sorry, but you are not to leave his side still he gained consciousness." He said.

"You have got to be kidding me, I still have to prepare for the international conference. Can you hand over the case to someone else." Aria yelled.

"No Aria, you are the only one I trust his life with. I know how tried and stressed out you are but is condition is critical,he needs you and nobody other than you can enter his ward." Davis said.

"What about you, you could take care of him,he is your friend." Aria suggested.

"I have some urgent work to finish, so I will have to leave. How about this after everything settles you can take a vacation. Please do it for me, you can sleep for a few hours,I will wait till you have rested well, also I will treat you to your favorite dishes for a week after I return.please do it for me OK." Davis pleaded with puppy eyes and immediately left without waiting for her reply.

Aria glared at Davis before screaming. "I Am Going To Kill you Mr Davis."

"I know you won't , because you are a sweetheart." Davis yelled back laughing.

" You just wait and watch Dr Davis."Aria yelled.

It's has been almost an hour since Davis left Aria in Nelson ward, which was heavily guarded by his men.

Aria checked his vitals twice within the hour to make sure his condition was stable.

she then gazed at his attractive face. He had a striking appearance,he looked tall, she guessed.

The most striking feature was his chest muscle, Aria swallowed a lump in her throat.

All she wanted to do was run her hands on his muscular body.

Immediately realizing her preverted thought she shook her head, come to your senses Ari, what are you thinking? but he looks delicious.she voiced out and took a deep breath.

What am I even doing, she scolded herself and continued to stare at him, admiring his good look.

The phone in her pocket coat beeped killing the silence in the room,it was a voice message from Davis.

" Ari, cutie, sweetie, I'm sorry for the trouble,I will make it up to you some day please don't be angry,call me if there is an emergency." His cute voice played in the room.

Aria stood up signing, you owe me big-time , Davis.

The man shouted in pain,I don't know anything.

"What do you mean you don't know? You were clearly trying to kill Nelson." A voiced boomed from across the room.

It was cold and scary making the man shiver. He looked in the direction of the voice and shouted "Dr Davis".

"You know me?" Davis asked surprised.

"Who doesn't know you Doc, but what are you doing here?" Zack asked.

"Cut the chase Zack, tell me who sent you to kill Nelson?" Davis said.

"Oh you know my name, I'm impressed Doc."

"I also know that you are from the famous sniper." Davis said while Zack remained silent.

Davis raised his eyebrows and gestured for his men to proceed. "Roland you know what to do." He said.

"Yes Doc Davis." Roland replied with a wicked grin.

He opened his toolbox, "what shall I use on you?" He mocked glancing at zack.

"How about a hammer?Ah... No I will use it next.yes the nutcracker."Roland exclaimed pressing it in his hand.

"Are you crazy?" Zack asked petrified.

"Yes." Roland replied.

Roland stared at him before removing the shackle from his hands and legs, Zack attempt to run to the exit.

"I like it when people think they can escape from my fingers.it gives me pleasure to break their confidence." Roland remarked before throwing a dart at zack thigh.Zack cried out in pain and fell to the ground.

"oh I love that sound." Roland walked to his prey,he placed one of Zack finger on the nutcracker.

"Who ordered you to shoot our boss?" Roland questioned while his hands pressed the cracker, Zack cried out in pain.

"You don't want to answer? I think you don't like your fingers." Roland increased the pressure on the cracker and ended up chopping off two fingers.

"Two down, let me use the hammer now."

"what know no..." Zack screamed.

Roland swug the hammer before hitting his head, slowly so as to not kill him, Zack face started to bleed and he collapsed.

"Keep him awake." Davis ordered from his seat.

Although Davis rarely visited the unground base,he was equally ghastly as there boss.

They knew that he only behaved like this if is bottom line was crossed,his bottom line was his three friends.

The men dragged Zack and shackled him again.Roland pulled one of the levers on the wall and scorching water poured on Zack from above.

"Just kill me already." He hissed.

"Oh, we will, but not now. I'm not done with you." Roland smiled.

It was then he realized what pure torture was, and why no one wanted to piss off the underground king, Nelson.

If the usual gentle Davis was this scary when angry, then how would the cold and ruthless Nelson be ?

"Stop. I'll confess. I will..." Zack spoke before Roland could strike the third time.

Roland stopped, "Speak." He ordered.

"I don't know who it was. I received a private message to kill Nelson.They paid me a huge amount, even before I accepted." He said.

"Are you saying the truth?" Davis questioned leaning forward.

"Yes ." Zack answered.

"You guys continue to have fun, but remember to keep him alive." Davis warned and walked out of the room.

All he could hear was loud cries before closing the door and made a call to Aria.

The beeping sounds was too loud,it started to irritate the sleeping Nelson. He wanted to throw it out of the window till the noise stopped.

He tried to open his eyes but they were too heavy. After a few seconds of taking deep breaths, he moved his right hand searching for his phone.

But he touched something else,he immediately turned with much trouble to find a girl sleeping on a chair, while her head was on his bed.

Her white coat indicated that she was a doctor, before his hands could reached her he fell at sleep.

"Yes, everything is fine,Mr Charles is still unconscious." Aria assured Davis again.

" What are you doing?" Davis asked.

"I have come to the canteen to grab a bite, Don't worry his guards are outside the ward, they will call me if there is anything."Aria said.

"Where is Doc Aria west?" some guards asked a nurse, making the nurse fear for her life.

one of the guards asked again, this time a little gentle. "Have you seen Doc Aria west?"

The nurse pointed at the counter and ran away In fear, as soon as they saw Aria they hurried towards her.

"Dr Aria please come." They said.

"Wow wow, calm down. what's the matter, you just scared the poor nurse." Aria said.

"It's the boss, I mean Mr Charles, you need to see him it's urgent. please come with us."one of them spoke panting heavily.

"Aria what happened?" Davis asked.

He had heard the guards speak to Aria on the phone.

"I don't know I will call you back." Aria said.

"Aria, Aria." Davis yelled but Aria had ended the call.

"Is everything alright Dr Davis? Master Carter is going to arrive soon." Roland informed looking at Davis panicked face.

" I am not sure Roland,we will have to wait and see."

Davis had informed his other friends about Nelson condition. Davis, Jo, Josh and Neslon were friends since childhood.

Once Jo and Josh heard about Nelson, they prepared to return to the country.

Davis dialed Aria number but decided to go to voicemail, "I hope everything is fine".

The door to the office opened abruptly and Davis did not have to guess who it was.

"Jo and Josh.The one and only.How was your flight?"

"It was boring. I flirted with the air hostess, but she was already married, by the way have you managed to get a girlfriend yet?" Josh teased.

Davis ignored his question. "Are you not going to ask about Nelson?"

"Nope. You are sitting here, in the underground base, so I assumed he is safe and out of danger." Jo answered this time.

Davis smiled. "Have you managed to track down the account details?"

"Are you doubting my skills." He placed a folder in front of Davis and sat down.

Davis opened the folder only to be consumed with anger. "Caro jonh!!"

"Do you know her?" Jo asked, yawning.

"Yes, she is Nelson ex girlfriend but she came back begging and all that."

"Nelson had a girlfriend! it's looks like I missed out on a lot of things. Anyway, why would she want to harm Nelson? What was her motive?" Jo and Josh questioned.

"I am wondering the same."what would she gain by harming Nelson?" Davis replied.

After a few minutes, Josh stood up and walked towards the door. "Get up lazy people. we have a puzzle to solve."

Aria ran towards Nelson ward. 'He was perfectly fine a few moments before. what could have happened?' she thought.

She heard loud noise coming from his ward. The moment she entered the room, she had to dodge as something was throwed at her.

" Oh my pretty face." she patted her face before raising her head to look at the intimidating man.

"Who the hell are you?" Nelson questioned, glaring at Aria.

"And who do you think you are?" she questioned back angrily.

Nelson was surprised. "Don't you know who I am?"

"If you are asking about the patient, Nelson, then I know you. But if you are asking about the business king, Nelson, then I don't know you." Aria said.

"Your misbehavior will lead to serious consequences, lady." Nelson warned."

"And yours, will lead to death." Aria retorted.

Nelson stared at her in shock, no one had ever talked to him in such manner except his three friends and family.

"Do you have no regard for your life." Aria asked looking at his gown that was now stained with blood.

"What do you mean?" Nelson asked.

"Mr Charles, just a few days you have been shot and had a open heart surgery. Instead of resting you have strained your self causing the wound to open up. Do you have any idea how foolish you are?" Aria said.

'This Damn woman. I need to teach her a lesson.' Nelson thought fuming with anger.

Aria continued, "Also I expect an apology. You could have injured me badly when you threw some thing at me."

Aria turned back to get the medical tray, "Mr Charles, please lie down."

Despite the fact that Nelson wanted to kill the woman, he followed her instructions.

"Mr Charles, it's best you take rest for a few days your wounds are still fresh and could open up again. Yeah, thinking about it, I was wondering what made you angry?"Aria asked.

He could not tell her the reason for his behavior,as soon as he woke up,all the memories came rushing back.

He still could remember the face of the woman who had decieved him. Seeing Nelson not talking, Aria teased, "cat got your tongue, Mr Charles."

Nelson flashed a smile making Aria drool "Oh you smiled and here I was thinking you only frown. I must say you have an enchanting smile, please do smile more."

Nelson laughed at her suggestion,his deep laugh ignited and unknown emotion within her.

"Do you like my smile?" Nelson asked looking at her Intently.

"Who wouldn't like it when you are greeted with a beautiful smile, Mr Charles." Aria answered.

The guards opened the door slowly and what they saw rendered them speechless.

Their boss was smiling like an idiot while Dr Aria helped him with his gown.

'Was there a problem during the surgery, is it the side effects or anesthesia damage his Brain?' the guards thought looking at Nelson smile.

Aria turned to the guards, "Get him some fresh apple juice and vegetable soup, also get me a sandwich. " The two guards nodded and left the room.

"I am going to make a call to Dr Davis. He has been going mad checking your health every few hours."

"Hmm, what's your name?" Nelson asked.

" I'm sorry,I forgot to introduce myself, I am Dr Aria west." Aria said.

" Hey Davis, I have some good news for you. Mr Charles is awake." She blurted out before Davis could speak.

"May I talk to him?" Davis asked excitedly.

Aria handed her phone to Nelson, "Dr Davis wants to speak to you."

Seeing Nelson hesitant , Aria continued, "Do you want me to step out for a bit?"

Nelson nodded. Aria smiled in understanding and left the ward.

Hello, he answered after Aria had left.

"How are you doing?" Davis asked.

" I'm fine, now tell me who had the guts to shoot me" Nelson asked.

" The guy is with us and we tracked the account details he gave us and...." Davis said, not knowing how to tell him that it was his girlfriend.

"And what?" Nelson asked getting impatient.

"Hmmm... It was your girlfriend who paid him." Davis dropped the bomb.

Nelson was shocked," why, how, for what reason?" He asked.

"That we don't know." Jo replied.

"Josh I want you to check on Caro." Nelson said.

" Do you suspect anything Nelson? Davis asked.

"I don't know, I think she was sent by someone if not why would she come back to me?" Davis, Jo and Josh nodded.

"Caro father had gone bankrupt a few months ago so it had to be someone else who sent her the money, she used in paying the assassin." Jo said.

"Davis,how long have you known Dr Aria west?" Nelson deliberately changed the topic.

"Who is Dr Aria west?" Jo and Josh asked in confusion.

" She is my colleague, I know her since she started working at the hospital.why do you ask? Davis replied.

"It's nothing, Nothing at all." Nelson cut the call immediately and looked at the mess he had done Inside the room.

"My, My. looks like Nelson is crushing on someone, what is it like to date a doctor?" Josh asked looking at Davis.

Nelson was in deep thought after he ended the call. He found it strange that he was interested in knowing about Aria.' Why am i acting this way?' He thought.

Aria's phone suddenly rang, disturbing him. The screen display the caller's name as Danny.

'Who is Danny? Is he Aria's boyfriend?' He thought.He answered the call and remained silent.

"Hello Ari baby, I have some great news for you, let's have dinner together. I will pick you up at 6 pm." Danny spoke.

"Ari, Aria.." He called when he got no reply.

"Did the call connect by mistake, Aria are you there?" Not getting an answer, he disconnected the call.

Nelson glared at the phone, before throwing it away without a second thought,he had been upset as soon as he heard Aria's name being called in an intimate way.
