Chapter One
Emily could be seen walking around with the animals surrounding her.
It was three years ago, Emily discovered her ability as the only human to heal and also talk with animals.
She was extremely shocked and scared when she found out about her powers, but her father had assured her that she was a special being.
She had learned to live with it and surprisingly, her father was with her throughout guiding her through the process. She had thought thoroughly on why her dad was able to guide, but she gradually forgot about as she got used to training.
She also didn't know why she had to train, but she was glad she did because she was now able to treat animals as well as humans. She was known as the miraculous doctor in her hometown, and she was always busy treating diseases of all her types.
This aroused jealousy from her female peers due to how she was revered in the town. She had a gentle but fierce personality.
She was gentle to the people who respected her, but was fierce towards the people who hated her, and talked ill of her. She didn't consider herself a pushover and she always fought back when needed.
She also hates bullies and would always fight against them if she encountered one. She was the most loved as well as the most hated in the town. What an irony, right?
She loved animals, and always hated people who ate them. She had always called them inhumane for eating animals. Even before she got her communication powers, she had affections for animals and always wished to be able to communicate with them.
So when she was found out about her powers, she was ecstatic. She could finally talk to animals. She had a cat for a pet named Sky.
She had found it wounded when she went to gather herbs and she felt pity for it. She healed it, and decided to take it in.
"Emily, let's go out to have fun." That was the voice of Marisa, Emily's best and only friend. She was the only girl that could relate well with Emily without getting jealous. She was a true friend.
"Risa, I'm coming. You don't need to yell." Emily said as she emerged from the stairs looking ethereal. She was donning a simple white gown but because of her beauty, it made her look noble instead of simple.
"Why are you silent? Weren't you the one screaming then why are you silent?" Emily asked seeing Marisa silent. Marisa came out of her reverie as she heard her.
"Oh my goodness!! You look stunning." Marisa exclaimed excitedly. She circled round Emily which scared the hell out of her.
"What the heck are you doing? You are making me want to change my dress." Emily said as she folded her arms. Marisa rolled her eyes at her immediately.
"If you dare change out of these clothes, I promise you that our friendship would end." Marisa threatened, and those words made Emily stiffen.
"Fine, I won't change out of it. Happy now?" Emily said with a smile and that satisfied Marisa.
"But strictly speaking best, you look stunning, and I'm sure you would be the center of attraction at the festival." Marisa said as she stroked her chin. She always did that whenever she was thinking so hard.
"Thank you, but you know I'm not interested in being the center of attraction. I would rather talk to my animals to now but the festival is important, so I have to go and besides not everyone wants me there." Emily said flatly.
It was the truth. While there were some who adored Emily, but there were some who couldn't stand her and had always schemed against. Of course, it was unsuccessful, but it was tiring to know that you might be hated for just being alive.
Marisa sighed out because she also knew, but she felt her friend should be more outgoing and to slap those haters in the face. She was a blessed being.
"Come on. Let's go. Your dad said you must be present at all cost, or he might have my head. I don't want that." Marisa said as she rubbed her exposed arms.
It was no secret that Emily's dad, Antonio, was one of the most scary man in the town as he was the most successful hunter. After the mayor, Antonio came next in power and Marisa was in awe of him.
"Come on. My dad isn't that scary." She said and they both walked out of the house. Emily bolted the door, and she didn't forget to go with her trusted companion, Sky.
"You are his daughter. You don't know how scary your dad is." Marisa said as she shivered. She was really afraid of Antonio.
They walked for about 10 minutes before they arrived in the town's center. They had talked throughout the walk because Marisa was really a talkative person.
"Oh. Isn't this the divine doctor? I thought this festival was too big for you, so why are you here?" A sour tone came from the girls' backs. They turned to look at who was speaking and Emily shook her head seeing who it was.
"Tatiana, what's wrong? Am I not welcomed here? The last time I checked, I was still a native of this town and I have every right to participate in this festival." Emily said. She didn't really want to argue but once she was forced, there was no stopping her.
"Oh. Yes but with the godlike character you always had on, one would think that you are not one of us." Tatiana said as she clicked her tongue. She was one of the people who hated Emily and always found ways to embarrass her.
Marisa rolled her eyes at the words that she spewed. She honestly didn't know why Emily was always hated. She was meant to be respected.
"Let's go Emily. I'm afraid, I won't be able to keep my anger while staring at this fool." Marisa said and dragged Emily along.
Tatiana stood there stunned due to the words uttered by Marisa. She stumped her feet before leaving there also but not without cursing them under her breath.
Chapter Two
"Emily, I bet you had fun at the festival, didn't you?" Antonio asked once they got back. The festival was over already and thankfully, Tatiana didn't bother her anymore.
"I guess so dad. It was fun, and it was nice to just be among the people." Emily said as she smiled. They were seated in the dining room as they had dinner. It was nighttime already.
"Dad, I would be going to the forest tomorrow. I hope you don't mind." Emily said as she prayed he accepted. He always forbade her to go into forest ever since, but she always sneaked out.
She just felt the need to inform him today or else he would be mad because she was going to stay out late.
"Did you think I wouldn't find out that you usually sneak out to go get herbs? Fine, I don't want you to feel like I'm limiting you, so you can go." Antonio said.
"Really? Thank you so much dad. You are the best." Emily beamed as she stood up to hug him from the back.
Antonio patted her hands as he sighed. His baby is all grown up, so he should get used to it.
"Dad, I will be in my bedroom. I'm full." She said and ran to her room. Looking at her retreating back, Antonio looked up to the ceiling as he mumbled,
"Emilia, our daughter is all grown up, and she took after you. She has your personality and I'm glad." He sighed before clearing the table.
"Sky, we would be going to the forest tomorrow. I'm so happy. I have missed those lovely animals. Aren't you excited?" Emily asked seeing the cat who was silent.
"I am, Mil but thinking about how you would focus more on the rest instead of me makes me feel jealous." The cat muttered without no shame.
Emily laughed out loud seeing his jealous look. She picked the cat into her hands as she poked its forehead.
"You would forever be the one I love most. No other animal can take your place just so you know. We only meet those animals once in a week and I feel we should spend more time together." Emily said explaining to him why she always forgets him.
The cat snorted as he snuggled deep into her arms. Emily rubbed her forehead seeing his possessive side.
"Come on, let's sleep. Tomorrow would be a long day as we would be going deep into the forest. We are on the lookout for a very rare herb." Emily said as she prepared to sleep.
"Aren't you going to take your bath? You stink." The cat said with a hint of disdain in her voice. Emily was left speechless at her words. She had no other choice but to go into the bathroom and freshen up.
"I'm all clean now. Can we sleep? I'm exhausted." Emily said as she clambered onto the bed. In no time, she fell asleep due to exhaustion. Sky clicked her tongue looking at her indecent sense of sleeping. She had no shame, the cat thought.
A wounded figure could be seen running deep in the forest as the figure panted heavily. The figure stopped when it was sure that no one was pursuing it.
It was a wolf or to be specific a lycan. Lycanthropes are known to be the king of all shape-shifters, and they are very rare.
The lycan laid down still in it's lycan form. He was badly injured after being chased. He was not meant to be injured, but he was caught off guard, and he was betrayed by one of his own.
"Grrr!!" He growled as he made small movements. Before long, he became unconscious.
Next day
Emily jumped down from the bed immediately she was awake. The sky was still dark and Emily wasn't one to wake up early but the thought of going to the forest made her so excited.
"Sky, wake up already. It's morning already." She said as she rushed into the bathroom. She was feeling giddy just at the thought of going to the forest. She has missed those animals.
You might wonder why she was excited when she had always gone to the forest previously. Well, Emily always did that in the night. She had not gone there when the sun was up in the sky that was why she felt excited.
Thirty minutes later, Emily came out all dressed. She was dressed in a red gown and a black hoodie. She also took a waist pouch to keep her herbs.
She went downstairs into the kitchen and she couldn't find her dad. She concluded that he had already left. She packed some nutritious meals for the animals. They were not short of for, but she felt they needed it.
"I think we are all set. Let's head out." She said as she skipped out of the house accompanied by an angry cat.
They reached the entrance of the forest just as the sun was up in the sky.
"Are you ready?" Emily asked Sky and sky rolled her eyes at such a question. She glanced at Emily could see the sheer disdain in her eyes.
"It seems you are forgetting that I'm the one who saved your life." Emily said as she stared at the cat.
"Whatever. Let's just go in." The cat said and jumped down from her hands. Emily sighed as she ran after it. The cat was really fast for its breed.
"Stop!" She yelled and it instinctively responded.
"What's wrong?" Sky asked curiously. He was curious as to why she asked her to stop.
"I smell something, to be specific, blood." Emily said as she tried to figure out where it was from. That was also one of her gifts, she could smell things which are afar.
"Let's head in that direction." She said pointing in a specific direction.
"Alright." Sky muttered and they both walked slowly as they don't know what was waiting in store for them.
"Oh my goodness!!" Emily yelled as she ran towards something. She looked shocked.
Chapter Three
"Oh my goodness!! It's a werewolf and it is injured." Emily said as she approached the wounded wolf.
"How are you sure it's a wolf? It could just be a normal wolf." Sky said skeptically. She didn't know how she was able to identify it as a werewolf.
"Remember we are living in a supernatural realm. Werewolves are rampant and this doesn't look like a normal wolf, so it's a werewolf."
"It's bleeding real bad. How did it manage to stay alive?" Emily asked herself as she stared at the white fur which was already dyed red. She couldn't even believe that it was alive despite the heavy loss of blood.
The werewolf opened its eyes almost immediately and snarled at her. It felt like she was an intruder.
"What do you think you are doing?" The werewolf asked as he had already transformed to his human self.
Emily immediately turned her back to him seeing that he was naked.
"Have you no shame? You can't just waltz around naked. I'm a lady for hell's sake." Emily shouted with her back still turned against him.
The werewolf just scoffed at her statement. He didn't give a damn about this weak human, but he had to maintain his good manners.
He snapped his fingers and he was clothed though it was only the lower body. He was injured just above his heart and was still bleeding.
"You can turn around now." He said and Emily turned around slowly. She didn't want to see a naked man and that to an handsome one at that.
Seeing him in trousers, she heaved a sigh of relief, but didn't give much thoughts on how he was able to get trousers.
She has read in stories when she was still young that werewolves could perform magic and that is what she thought did.
But those books were wrong. Only the chosen lycan king could perform magic and that was who she ran into now.
Sky stayed away from him as she could feel the air of power around him.
"Emily, I think we should go." Sky said worriedly. She didn't know if this werewolf would attack them.
"Come on, sky. You can see that he is badly hurt, and I can't leave him in this condition." Emily said as she searched for some herbs in her herb pouch.
The lycan showed obvious surprise seeing that she could communicate with animals. He tried to figure out if she had a peculiar air or scent, but it was all normal.
Only the supernatural beings could communicate with animals, and he is quite surprised that she was not only able to understand, but could also communicate with the animals. He felt that she was becoming interesting, so he decided to observe her for a while.
"Eureka!!" She exclaimed as she brought out a herb that stinks. The lycan and Sky frowned instinctively as they despised the smell.
After looking around, Emily found a flat ground as she began to grind the herb. The smell became unbearable as she continually ground it and brought out the water.
"What are you doing?" The lycan asked snarling and growling at the same time. He couldn't stand the smell as he had a really sensitive nose.
"I'm preparing a concoction for your wounds. The bleeding hasn't stopped. I bet the weapon was poisoned before used." Emily said as she observed the wound. It looked deeper than it actually appeared.
The lycan frowned as he listened to her. He didn't want her anywhere close to him as he had not found who she really was.
"Don't come any closer. My wound will heal. It's just taking a bit of time." The lycan said as he stared at her warily. He didn't want her to touch him.
"Relax, I only want to help you with your wounds." She said as she took a step forward.
"No! I don't want you taking another step.!" The lycan growled dangerously, but Emily wasn't having any of that.
"I said I want to treat your wounds. What's so hard for you to understand? Do I look like a bad person to you? If you don't stay put, I promise that your injury would only get worse. Mark my words!! Emily yelled as she glared at it. She was frustrated.
She had never seen such a person who could endure pain just like him and of course she still wondered how he wasn't dead given how deep the injury looked.
He didn't know why but under her gaze, he became docile. He was shocked within, but put on a blank face as though he was contemplating it. He really couldn't believe that a mere human could affect him so much.
"Fine!! Since you insist, be my guest." He gave in. The mighty lycan king gave in to a human. If anyone were to find out, he would be mocked so he must make sure this stays between them.
Emily beamed obviously satisfied that she could have her way. She carried the concoction in a small bowl she always carried with her because she doesn't know when she might face any situation just like this.
"What's your name?" Emily asked curiously as she applied the grounded herbs on his wounds. She frowned because it was deeper than she expected. It's a huge miracle he is still alive.
"Edward." He responded to her. Obviously, that wasn't his real name. He was the lycan king, and he was sure that she might have heard his name somewhere. He was really popular though people don't know how he looked like. His name could give him out as he was the only one with such a name in the realm.
"Edward, that's such a nice name. I'm Emily and that is my cat, Sky." She said as she nodded in the direction of Sky.
Sky shrunk on feeling his gaze upon her. She was really scared and this was the first time the cat was so silent.
"I see that you could talk to it, why is that?" He asked. He was curious as to why she was able to communicate with the animals.
"Oh, that's a gift. I also have the gift of healing." She said carelessly as she continued to treat or heal him. Edward froze on hearing what she said.
She was his mate and he couldn't feel her!!
There was a prophecy that said that his mate would be a human but she would be special as she would have the ability to communicate with animals and also the gift of healing.
