Chapter 1 Saved By Night.

When Jayden opened his eyes, he was surrounded by unknown men.

"Tell your Father to withdraw the new project or you will die here," a man said.

Jayden looked at the gun over his head, wondering how he got there.

He had been walking down a street trying to get home a second ago. Who was it that had him abducted?

Project, what project? Were these his father's enemies? He recalled getting taken. They were professionals. They did not even give him a chance to struggle when they stuffed him in the back of the van.

"Where am I? Who are you?" Jayden asked. He could smell a bit of iron and hear water from afar, but it was still too dark for him to recognize where this was.

The men pointed a gun at him.

"Stop with the nonsense or, I will blow your brains out! Pick up your phone and tell your father to withdraw the project!"

Father? Project? What project? Jayden did not know what this was, but rightly, he knew very little about his father's work.

"Pick it up!" they dropped his phone on the floor.

"Please at least tell me why I am here," Jayden tried to bargain.

"You really are pitiful. Your father sold you to us as collateral. If he successfully does his part and withdraws the Night family from the bid, he can take you back,"

Sold him? Night? What Night family?

Jayden picked up the phone in a panic and dialed his father's number. As the phone rang, he became nervous. What would they do to him if his father did not withdraw from this project?

He knew his father, or better, he did not know him at all because, they had not talked for years. His father never cared about him. So to withdraw something this important?. Jayden doubted that he would. He may be the son of the vice president of the Shaw Family corporation, but no one would care what happened to him.

When the call went through, a female voice sounded on the other side. "Who is this?"

"Put my father on the phone, it's his Son, Jayden," Jayden answered. The other person went silent for a while before he answered.

"Mr. Day Family is busy at the moment, why don't you leave a message with me?" the woman said.

"I said to put him on the phone! There are people here with a gun on my head because of him. They say I am to tell him to withdraw an M project or something. Put him on the phone!" Jayden basically shouted.

The woman on the other end paused a bit before she continued.

"Master Day, whatever is going on, Mr. Day has an important announcement to make tonight and is about to go on stage. You are his son and should understand this, right?" the woman said.

"So, you will not give the phone to the owner so, his own son can speak to him, is what you are saying, right?" Jayden asked almost chuckling.

This woman was his father's secretary, Linda. Normally, Linda was very respectful but now she seemed to be mocking him.

"You know this call is recorded, right? If something happens to me, do you want to guess if your response will end up on the Internet and you become a celebrity," Jayden threatened.

"There is no need to exaggerate,

Master Jayden!" the woman said and Jayden sneered.

So, this woman could raise her voice?

"Linda, you are my father's Secretary yet you are talking to me with this much disrespect? I am sure this conversation can be spun in many ways. Are you a mistress? I can see the headlines. Mr. Day with his Mistress as his son is kidnapped. I heard father is gunning to be promoted to president of his branch," Jayden said.

Jayden knew his father was not loyal to his step mother, so it was probably true, but he just wanted to taunt her. He was desperate.

"Tell him, I am sending men for him. End the call." Jayden heard his father's voice say on the other end and paused. So, he was listening?

He knew he was In danger and did not even bother answering his call? Tears filled his eyes and the woman's smug voice repeated his father's words.

"Mr. Day Family says to let you know he will send men to save you," the woman said and ended the call.

Tears filled Jayden's eyes. Was this a dream? He did not sound like his usual his father.

"As you heard, it seems he will not withdraw any project. Whether, M, A or S. He will not withdraw anything for me. Please let me go, I have nothing to do with this," Jayden begged. He needed to save himself.

"Did we get the wrong woman?" one of them asked.

"He is definitely his Son, we did not get it wrong," Another said.

"Please let me go," Jayden begged.

The men talked for a while ignoring him. The next moment, there was a loud crash. "We have been attacked!" one of them said.

Soon, Jayden found himself in the middle of a gun battle. One of the men used him as a shield, dragging him all the way to the edge of the water. Now able to see clearly, Jayden realized they were at the docks.

"Don't come any nearer or else, I will throw him in!" the man holding Jayden backed closer to the water.

Those raiding stepped forward and Jayden could see them better. They were not the Day Family security.

These guys were more dangerous.

When he saw them, he calmed down. But the leader opened his mouth to speak. "We have already cleared out all of your men and captured those from your unit. Mr Day said they have other sons.

You walked right into a trap," the leader said and Jayden went pale. A trap? Was he bait? How could he be bait?. Jayden suddenly heard an engine roar and looked down at the water. It seemed the man was trying to escape on a boat.

"Don't let him get away!" The leader ordered and Jayden turned sharply. Out of the corner of his eyes, he saw a figure he had not seen in years. He knew that face. It was Marcus; his bully from high school. How worse could this situation be? He lowered his head hoping he did not see him.

"Boss, he is putting up a fight," someone said to Marcus.

Boss? Jayden was not stupid. He could tell these were not normal people. Even an idiot could tell that these men were from the underworld. He gazed at Marcus' figure as he took everything in. Marcus was in an underworld gang.

Jayden was not sure what was happening when gunshots went off. Then suddenly, he found himself falling into the water.

Chapter 2 Meeting Night Again.

The cold seawater swallowed Jayden. Gunshots were released as shots were into the water. The moment Jayden felt hot pain in his arm; he knew he had been shot.

His vision started to dim. Just when he could no longer hold his breath, someone dragged him up to the surface.

Jayden was rescued very quickly. He coughed out some water before he could register where he was.

The icy sea water chilled him to the bones. As he trembled, he wondered how he got himself in this situation. This was obviously a fight between two underworld groups yet he had been dragged in.

The pain on his arm made him dizzier. He noticed that Marcus was much closer than before. Jayden held his breath. This was a man who enjoyed bullying him in school.

Now Marcus was part of a shady group, if he recognized Jayden his life will be over but it was too dark and Jayden had already been roughed up a bit before being thrown into the sea. Even his father would not recognize at this moment, so Marcus did not.

Marcus took one look at the man that had been rescued. He did not look too long before losing interest and turned to his men."Send him off to his father," he said and walked off, got into a black SUV and drove off.

Jayden sighed in relief. It was clear Marcus did not recognize him. The shame would have been hard to swallow.

Jayden was handed over to the Day Family security. He could hear them talking. From their words it was clear. His father had gotten in trouble with dangerous people and had agreed to sell him of to be bait.

The Day Family security that was usually arrogant lowered their hard as they saw the dangerous men off. Only afterwards did they look at him. "Master Day, we will transfer you to the hospital now," the leader said.

"Where is my father?" Jayden asked as anger seethed in him.

"He is at a conference," the leader answered before Jayden collapsed.

When he woke up, he found himself in the hospital. Jayden woke up to find he was in the hospital alone. A nurse busily attended to other patients around him. He sat up and looked around. It did not take him long to realize he had been left here and attended to. Anger brewed inside him. He handled his own discharge procedures and messaged a friend of his to find out where his father is. It did not take long for his friend to send him the location.

Jayden took a taxi over. According to his friend, his father was meeting with some investors at a private room in a restaurant.

Jayden marched in kicking away security and went straight for his father, picked up a plate and slammed at his head. His father, Gregory Day looked up from him wine to find a large plate descent on him. The plate broke and the two investors paused. The security hurried over to restrain Jayden.

"Jayden Stanley Day, have you lost your mind?" Gregory held his bleeding head and shouted.

In the next room, Marcus Night and his men had been watching Gregory's private meeting through their laptop. None of them expected Jayden's appearance. When Gregory screamed Jayden's name,

Marcus paused as his eyes darkened.

"The Day family sure is funny. A discarded son would be used a bait?" one of the men in the other rooms asked. He was enjoying the show so much, he was almost cheering.

"Jayden!" one of Marcus' men heard the girl's father call and sat up suddenly. He glanced at Marcus with a worried look. Three of them had gone to high school together.

They all knew Jayden.

All three of them were suddenly not so interested in the fight, but the man who threw a plate around. They all recognized that name from high school.

"Matt, did we not check the Day family?" Marcus asked and the others paused.

"We did Marcus. They do not have any Jayden Stanley Day in their family. I heard of a discarded son, but they called him Stan. Could it have been him?" one of them asked.

"He is really Jayden from high school," one of them asked and they all paused and looked back as though trying to get a better look at the man being restrained in the video.

"Didn't he up and vanish to avoid you? Could it be a coincidence?" Daniel asked and Matt threw him a look. They all knew Marcus and Jayden were like oil and water through our school. They had not thought much of it till Jayden dropped out and Marcus started looking for him, saying Jayden took something from him.

They always avoided talking about Jayden. Even though Marcus never said anything, they knew he did not like them talking about his past with Jayden yet this idiot mentioned their last.

"We will know when we check, right?" the other answered.

"Bring him here," Marcus ordered one of his men.

Jayden looked at his father coldly.

"I don't care if you become the president of the world in the future, if you ever make deals with me again, it better be to have me killed because the moment I walk out of there alive I will kill you or your sons and face the consequences," Jayden declared, flung the guards holding his arms off and walked away.

Jayden had not walked far when he was stopped by men in dark clothes. From their build, they did not look like ordinary security.

"Who are you?" he asked cautiously

"Our boss wants to see you," one of the men said.

"Well, tough luck," Jayden answered and tried to leave but they blocked his path.

"Mr. Day, you can either come quietly or not, but we are taking you to the boss. It is your choice how we do it," the man said and Jayden considered it. He had no choice. They were not giving him an option but to follow.

He gritted his teeth and nodded. "Well, lead the way," he said in surrender.

Chapter 3 Oil and Water.

The strange men surrounded him as though they expected him to run then they led him to a private room. It was on the same section as the room his father was having a meeting, but it had a separate entrance.

One of them men knocked. "I have brought Mr. Day, sir," he said.

"Enter," someone answered and the door opened. The men stepped aside to let Jayden in. Jayden walked into the room and his face fell.

Inside the room, Jayden paused at the sight of the people in the room. He felt the need to curse out loud.

Why were they there?

"You really are Jayden," Harry said and Jayden felt an idea spark and he frowned in confusion.

"You all are?" He asked and they all paused.

"You can't actually be pretending to not know us, right?" Daniel asked.

Of course he knew who they were. He could not forget them even if he wanted to. Daniel Woods, Matthew Hunter, Harry Steele and of course, the very person who led people to isolate him, Marcus Night. But he was never going. To admit he recognized them. Still pretending he did not recognize anyone, Jayden's eyes scanned the room till they fell Marcus, then he seemed to recognize him.

"You were the one who saved me from the sea yesterday, right?" Jayden asked Marcus and the rest frowned.

"Saved you from the sea?" Yesterday? They were all curious.

Marcus regarded Jayden curiously. He recalled he had fished the discarded son of the Day family from the Sea yesterday. That was Jayden?

"Though you saved me, I have a feeling you have a part to play in how I ended up in the sea, so I will call it even," Jayden said.

"You really don't recognize us? It's Matthew," Matthew pointed at himself, "Matthew Hunter," Matthew insisted to Jayden. Jayden pretended to freeze, and then he frowned.

"Then, you must be Daniel," Jayden said darkly as he looked at Harry, "and Harry," he looked to Daniel.

His face fell further as he looked at Marcus. "And Marcus? Yes, I remember," he said.

Marcus's grip tightened on his glass of whisky. His eyes remained fixed on Jayden's face. They noticed that Jayden recognized Daniel and Harry wrong and raised a brow. Did they look so different from how they looked in high school? Jayden did not care about their reaction. He refused to let them believe they were unforgettable. Jayden would not let those who bullied him feel accomplished that he could not forget them.

They noticed that Jayden seemed to become tense when he realized who they were. "So, why did you have your men call me here?" Jayden looked at Marcus and asked.

Marcus leaned back as he gripped his glass tightly. I was not sure what he was thinking. He gestured to the laptop screens displaying Gregory Day's private room.

Jayden immediately understood. It seemed they were watching his father. Jayden was not stupid. There was a snowy way they were just watching his father for entertainment.

His father probably did something and was about to be caught before he barged in. A part of him regretted confronting his father. If he knew they were watching him, he would have stayed away and let his father get in trouble. And above all, he would not have had to meet them.

"I did not expect my confrontation would get in the way," Jayden said stiffly.

"But it still did," Marcus said, "You still interrupted. This is on you."

"You want me to pay for it?" Jayden asked incredulously.

"Yes," Marcus said.

"There was no way I could have known it would interfere with your work. I have every right to confront my father as I like," Jayden said.

"You really think I will let you walk out of here?" Marcus asked and Jayden paused.

"So, what do you want from me?" Jayden answered. His reaction frustrated Marcus. He could not explain why, but he felt this urge to torture Jayden.

"I can let this slide if you deliver something for me," Marcus said and Jayden paused. He was not stupid enough to do that. His eyes trailed across Marcus's hair; a nice buzz cut on each side with shoulder length hair from front to back ties away behind him, exposing his tattoo peeking from under the neck of his black dress shirt.

Everything about Marcus screamed dangerous and it was not just his muscular build. From the sketchy men to the fight he witnessed last night. Marcus was involved in the underworld. He would be stupid to deliver anything for him.

"Why would I do that?" Jayden asked defiantly. Why would Marcus specifically ask him to deliver something if it was not to harm him?. Marcus seemed to read his mind as he leaned forward and took a sip of his whiskey.

"You are still naive. This is not high school," Marcus said as he pulled out a gun and placed it on the table, "I would not hesitate to put a bullet through your skull."

Jayden paled at the sight. The rest seemed amused. They always know about the bad blood between them. In school, they called them Day and night as they could not exist in the same place, funny how that is their name too. Only Harry looked troubled as he glanced at Marcus with worry. It was not quite clear why.

"Alright then," Jayden relented. He had no choice. He just hoped that after this incident, they would never meet again.

The rest got up to leave. "Well, I have an appointment," Daniel said and Matthew followed.

Harry paused beside Marcus before leaving. "Don't overdo it, so that you don't regret it later," Harry whispered and left them alone.

"Follow me," Marcus said and left the room. His men flanked Jayden as though he would run any moment till they got to the car outside.

"Get in," Marcus instructed and Jayden swallowed. He had a feeling whatever he was going to deliver would come back to haunt him.
